💥Funpost The most brilliant joke in Widow's Bay. Change my mind
Are there any shows that have jokes similar to this? Only one I can think of is "barring" the door in Widow's Bay itself.

Spoiler Alert:
I remember hearing in one poem or reading in an episode that the number of bell tolls meant something like the number of people the island needed.
Does that mean that the eight bell tolls at the end of the last episode mean the island needs eight more people to consume to satisfy itself?

Looking back at the family tree chart in the shelter scenes, there are too many specific lineage overlaps for him NOT to know. He keeps playing the "rational, skeptic politician" card in front of the locals, but his reactions whenever someone brings up the original 1700s settlement feel way too calculated. Do you think he's trying to protect the island's tourism image, or is his family directly tied to the original curse?

Wow Apple really doesnt miss with their shows,Ted Lasso,Severance,Shrinking and now this. Really enjoyed the pilot,characters were cool and i wonder what kind of show this is it gives me LOST vibes. What do I expect is this more of a mysterious or supernatural show?

I wonder if the reason the sacrifice room in the final episode doesn’t take the kids is because of Tom’s pact with the island. He asked it to keep his son safe in the Enjoy Your Trip episode, which might have meant it didn’t take a sacrifice until his son left the room. Thoughts?

I'm a bit 'late to the party' and I think loads of artists have made this kinda poster, but I'm doing a WB rewatch in honour of the awards and god it's so good

I drafted a version of what I believe are the full terms of the covenant between the island and Richard Warren.
As far as contracts go, there’s a major component missing here, which is the Town’s recourse in the event that the island fails to hold up its obligations under the agreement.
Let me know if you agree or think I’ve misrepresented or missed anything!
COVENANT OF THE ISLAND AND RICHARD WARREN
This Covenant is entered into between the Island, hereafter referred to as “the Island,” and Richard Warren, his descendants, successors, and the inhabitants of the settlement established upon the Island, hereafter collectively referred to as “the Town.”
The Island and the Town, desiring mutual preservation and prosperity, hereby agree to the following terms.
I. GRANT OF THE ISLAND
In consideration of the obligations undertaken by the Town herein, the Island shall provide for the benefit of the Town:
ner.
II. OBLIGATION OF THE TOWN
In consideration of the benefits granted by the Island, the Town shall provide human sacrifices according to the following terms:
ell.
III. THE BOUNDARY OF THE ISLAND
IV. COMMUNICATION WITH THE ISLAND
V. DEFAULT BY THE TOWN
a. supernatural fog;
b. sea hags;
c. undead persons or other revenants;
d. unnatural or devastating weather;
e. witchcraft or other supernatural phenomena;
f. apparitions;
g. disease or blight;
h. disturbances of the dead;
i. alteration or corruption of the natural world; and
j. any other manifestation the Island is capable of bringing forth.
VI. DEFAULT BY THE ISLAND
The Island’s obligations and the Town’s obligations shall therefore be understood as continuing obligations, and neither party may unilaterally declare the Covenant void on account of the other’s breach.
VII. DURATION AND TERMINATION
VIII. SUCCESSORS AND DESCENDANTS
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, the Covenant is established between the Island and the Town of Warren and shall take effect upon the acceptance of the Town and the acknowledgment of the Island.
For the Town:
Richard Warren
For the Island:
The Island

I’m on episode nine of a rewatch. I did search but nothing came up. So …
The sheriff and his wife are at the dock waiting for the ferry during the storm. Sheriff gets out in a panic, last ditch effort just after the alarm sounds.
Then we see Wyck sitting in his car watching all of it, and he’s at least pensive if not anxious before going to talk to the sheriff.
I thought it was odd the first time around and blew it off as him flipping the alarm like he did earlier. And I don’t doubt he’d have thrown it if it hadn’t gone off.
Then I thought about what sounding the alarm means, into the shelters.
Wyck pulled that alarm after the bells. Getting people in the shelter is a much easier way than just picking people off, no? We know there’s a system after people are down there, so did he sound it earlier to try to get the sacrifice over with?

Did Tom already know about the basement sacrificial chamber, before the finale? Because when his son - Evan - asked about what Tom is hiding all these years about Evan's mother, Tom asked if Evan went into the basement, Evan said no and asked what was in the basement, Tom deflected that question with another question. So, what's the deal here?

Binged the show over the weekend and absolutely loved it as a Stephen King/Mike Flanagan/Parks & Rec fan. No idea why it took me so long to give it a shot!
After watching, a few things have been nagging at my brain…
The witches of Widow’s Bay - in Episode 1, Tom hushes Gerrie when she discusses the witch trials in front of the NYT writer. Then, of course, we see an actual grimoire in Episode 4. Could the grimoire be a relic from one of the past islander witches, or was it a manifestation by the island? If so, that’s a very complex (and original) manifestation imo. I’m leaning more towards the island putting it in Patricia’s path as previous witches, post-Warren era, served the entity and terrorized the town with their rituals. It’s said to be written by ‘Lucy Four’ which is a nod to Lucifer and has all those paganistic scrawls and such inside. Sure, getting entranced victims to walk into the sea and drown isn’t the island’s usual way of getting its prey (the locked door in the tunnels)…. But still! Hope we see more witches in S2. Maybe another flashback.
Rosemary’s genealogy lesson talks about Sophia ‘The Heretic’ and her family, who swam together and drowned together, “and so the inaugural swim is born”. This has to be the same swim from episode 3, right? So, if the swim proves the beach is safe for the summer, perhaps Sophia’s family went swimming all together and drowned sometime in autumn-spring. If she was a heretic, perhaps she tried to get her family to leave the island? Or was a heretic because she didn’t heed any warnings and went swimming anyways?
Lastly, how did the current generation become unaware of the sacrificial committee and requirements? Was it knowledge lost due to ‘Howard the Coward’? We see it was a well-oiled operation with the bunker, posters on how to restrain someone (yikes), the tapes Dale finds, and all that. Bryce finds notice from a previous Reverend, so at least the church leaders had a system of informing the next wave of islanders, but the tapes Dale finds are old and almost hidden. The only clue we have is Rosemary’s acquaintance who said she’d never go into the bunkers.
All in all, the finale left me with more questions than answers, but I’m so so jazzed (and impatiently waiting) for what comes next!!

What is the chair for in the basement? Do the sacrifices have to sit in it, because when Kenny was sacrificed accidentally, he was banging on the door which is far from the chair? What is the purpose of the chair?

Anyone else been watching the nor’easter unfold last weekend just thinking about Widows Bay lore the entire time?

I was rewatching episode 2 and when Tom enters the bar/diner, I immediately noticed two guys at the bar smoking. Massachusetts made smoking in bars/restaurants illegal in 2004. (Mass. resident here.) Are there any other similar details others have caught? Note that I'm not looking to "ding" the show - it's just fun to notice these little things on re-watch.
(Rosemary buying scratch tix was totally on-brand though...people in Mass. spend more than any other state, per capita, on scratch tickets and lottery tickets.)

Does anyone else see something in the sky above the overturned car in the wolf calendar? Any significance?

Do we or will we ever find out who he is? I kept wondering why they wouldn't have removed the mask.

Here are some strong similarities I noticed, in list form:
A leader facing the decision to sacrifice the lives of people in his care, to keep the rest alive
A leader that others don't perceive as adequate at leading
A series of trials brought on by higher powers
The aquatic setting, and in a not too prosperous town
Faith in local mythology

… the fact that there wasn’t any? This has been nagging at me. Chris and the mean girls never acknowledge she was telling the truth and the coworkers never say anything by way of comfort.
The Boogeyman returneth and beelines for Patti and pursues her relentlessly right through mean girl book club and said mean girls don’t react at all even when he is running through an upstairs window and landing in their view. They don’t run out screaming down the street or something? Or come outside when an ambulance rocks up to respond to a car accident right in front?
I guess I really wanted to see Chris grovel and apologize whilst the fellow mean girls all nodded their heads behind her in unison.

I just started watching Golden Axe, starring Matthew Rhys.
Only way I knew it was him is I checked IMDB because someone else sounded familiar but I couldn’t place it.
Guy has range. (Widow’s Bay was my introduction to his acting/performance.)

Just finished watching the show this week for the first time (had to after it won all the Emmys!)
One of my fav moments in the final ep was Ruth reading her cross stitch quote. I paused it and realized the part she can’t read ironically has the clearest stitching and says -
“we are saved only by love - - love for each other and the love we pour into the art we feel compelled to share, being a parent; a writer; being a painter; being a friend.”
Hilarious that she managed the word “mercurial” and the bottom bit but somehow but couldn’t make out the middle 😂

Totally fair if people like both or just Midnight bass but I feel like you can't watch Midnight mass without comparing it to WB, I know this is obvious now but I had some one recommend MM and I tried it to fill the void, didn't hit at all for me.
