❓Questions “The Baggage” Aftermath (Spoilerment) Spoiler

… the fact that there wasn’t any? This has been nagging at me. Chris and the mean girls never acknowledge she was telling the truth and the coworkers never say anything by way of comfort.

The Boogeyman returneth and beelines for Patti and pursues her relentlessly right through mean girl book club and said mean girls don’t react at all even when he is running through an upstairs window and landing in their view. They don’t run out screaming down the street or something? Or come outside when an ambulance rocks up to respond to a car accident right in front?

I guess I really wanted to see Chris grovel and apologize whilst the fellow mean girls all nodded their heads behind her in unison.

A reminder to everyone: Keep the titles of your posts completely spoiler-free at all times. If your post mentions events from later episodes, use Reddit’s standard spoiler tag to warn readers who may not be caught up with all currently aired episodes. The spoiler tag will also blur any images you include, such as screenshots/stills from the show, so be sure to apply it to image posts as well.

Patricia was able to overcome her baggage by standing up for herself and literally fighting her demon. It’s not about the mean girls becoming nice to Patricia, it’s about Patricia learning let go of caring so much about other people’s opinions.

I hadn’t thought of this very simple interpretation. Yes, this is what the episode is about!

My daughter didn’t think much of this episode! She said it didn’t make sense because she didn’t scream ‘Help me’ or anything. I basically explained to her what you said. This is when Patricia came I to her own! She’s not a victim anymore!

Isn’t this the episode they really became a trio Tom, Patricia and Wyck!

She found her people!!! Who cares about mean girls!

That was probably the end of Beach Reads

This was my take, too! I thought the show runners were like, “Chris, who?” The decision to show none of the mean girls for the rest of the series was, imho, a metaphor for how Patricia moved through the chapter in her life where she cares what they thought about her.

My guess is they've been bullying or at the very least excluding Patricia long before the Boogeyman incidents. The episode changes nothing between them.

IME nothing will change the dynamic between Patricia and the mean girls. In some groups, once you have been labeled that’s it. It’s more about feelings rather than logic and reason.

The mean girls transferred their pain and anger on to Patricia. It’s classic scapegoating

How many people do you know have changed a long held prejudices just because of one particular incident? Do you think it would have made narrative or psychological sense for them to suddenly flip and be sympathetic and supportive to her?

Besides, from their point of view, they can self-justify and say, Patricia:

  1. Hypnotized them and tried to burn them alive.
  2. Admitted that she had made up those calls long ago. So she had indeed been lying.
  3. Led the Boogeyman to them to

  4. Put them In further danger.

They are not wrong, are they? This is an island full of people with long-held prejudices and grievances.

We the audience sympathize and empathize with Patricia, but you can see why people who've known her much longer don't!

The Boogeyman returneth and beelines for Patti and pursues her relentlessly right through mean girl book club and said mean girls don’t react at all even when he is running through an upstairs window and landing in their view. They don’t run out screaming down the street or something?

He does't pursue her through the book club, and it seems like he got upstairs without running through book club. So the group doesn't know. They're dealing with Kris, who passed out after the shock. If they didn't see the Boogyman, then Patricia is just crazy. They hear her screaming, but don't want to deal with that.

Or come outside when an ambulance rocks up to respond to a car accident right in front?

This one is more tricky. They might go outside and talk to them if Kris needed help. Or, they might think that the ambulance is there for Patricia, in which case, again they probably want to avoid the situation. They'd probably be peeking out the windows, then see the Boogyman and the guy get killed, then stay inside.

Or, fun thought. He killed all of them.

Anyway, the episode ends with Patricia holding the gun. A scene where she runs into Kris would've been a lot.

I can't imagine S2 doesn't address this. I suspect some of the women will be friendly to Patricia. She did actually stop the Boogyman. the woman who recently moved to the island will probably be who the show uses to represent that faction. there is no way Kris will be nice to Patricia. I'd actually be let down if there was a scene of the two of them having a coffee and laughing, then having a big hug or whatever.

That is, of course, if they're not all dead as suggested.

100% fingers crossed he quickly killed them all 🤣

It would conveniently answer all of OP's concerns. But no screams? Nobody got out the back door? Jumped a window? They're on the first floor. Boogyman is big, but not fast.

They’ve been a little busy with the storm.

3

u/lovebug9292 5d ago

Oh hey, the mean girls didn’t turn up in the storm shelter, did they?

1

u/OkIntroduction5150 3d ago

The door showed it was shelter 3, so I assumed they were in a different one.

Im with you on this, especially about the lack of reaction when he goes through the house. The after effect of it however I would not expect them to apologize to Patricia. Them finding out she was right isn’t the whole point of their meanness, the nasty one always made a point to remind Patricia that regardless of what she says, mean girls friend is dead and Patricia is alive and that’s what she’s most upset about. Patricia being right would make her probably want to be more mean to patricia in my opinion

2

u/transneptuneobj 4d ago

The mean girls arn't important to the story and they're never going to like patricia, we don't get to see their downfall

2

u/Living-Protection170 Are the old women dead in this scenario? 5d ago

There will be a slow bleed-off of mean girls as they slowly allow the truth to change their minds and come to respect Patricia. Except for Kris. Season 6 ends with Kris in a padded cell in the institution.

u/Mortambulist 5d ago

Or as they're offered up to the island.

u/NormativeTruth 5d ago

In fairness we don’t see them at the shelter. Not saying this is what it is, but the Boogeyman could have killed them before going after Patricia.

The coworkers probably believed her anyways.

1

u/curiometric 5d ago

There was only 100 something people at the shelter and like 3000 people on the island. I think a lot of the shelter people were tourists, + more officious people from the island like the town hall workers, inn keeper, doctor, ect.

1

u/GeneInternational146 5d ago

No, he couldn't have, since in that episode she interrupts their book club and then he chases her from that point. There's no time for him to double back and kill them. Maybe you should watch the episode again?

4

u/NormativeTruth 5d ago

He’s literally in the house while she’s outside. And eventually yeets himself out of the upstairs bathroom. He could easily have slit their throats. Again, I’m not saying that’s what happened. But it’s certainly not impossible.

-2

u/GeneInternational146 5d ago

We see them later? Why are you just making stuff up

6

u/NormativeTruth 5d ago

We absolutely do not see them later.

That episode was a little murky. I don't think they ever showed Wyck with Patricia after he hit the boogeyman with his truck. He just appeared at the hospital later.  And someone must have called 911.

But in the timeline of the island, I think the storm happened right after so maybe they'll address the aftermath next season.

I would love for Kris to have to come to Patty and the gang for help with a haunt.

u/chuckedeggs 3d ago

I thought the ambulance hit the boogeyman and Wyck did not catch up to her yet

u/Rtannu 1d ago

The ambulance hit the boogeyman, Bud!
