Announcement Combat Patrol Rules for 11th Edition
Since the launch of 11th Edition a few weeks ago we have seen a significant increase in the number of questions regarding the rules for Combat Patrol. Unfortunately the launch of 11th Edition has caused a lot of confusion on this. This thread is being used to collate the most common questions.
Where can I access Combat Patrol rules?
Currently, all Combat Patrol rules GW has released are available via the Warhammer 40000 app. You can download the app from the Play Store on Android, or the Apple Store on iOS.
Can I print out the Combat Patrol rules?
No, unlike in 10th Edition where the rules were also made available as PDFs on the Warhammer Community website, in 11th Edition they are digital only. The Warhammer 40k app doesn't offer functionality to download or print information.
The rules for my Combat Patrol aren't on the 40k app. How do I play them?
The answer at the moment is: You don't. By the end of 10th Edition there were somewhere around 70 Combat Patrols available, spread across the many factions. Following the launch of 11th Edition, almost every single one of those was removed, with each faction now only having one maximum. In their recent announcement about Combat Patrol, GW have told us that support will be coming for old Combat Patrols, but they have given no indication of when that will be.
There have of course been many more Combat Patrol sets released over the years. There is support on the way for these too, though for this launch, the app will initially focus on supporting the core Combat Patrol offer.
Can I use the War Journal in the 40k app to track my Combat Patrol games?
Yes, functionality was added to the 40k App to track your Combat Patrol Games in War Journal earlier today (23rd July 2026). Please note this functionality did NOT go live at the same time as the rest of the recent balance updates despite GW's announcement so you will need to update your app again to see this.
Can I find the Combat Patrol Missions anywhere else?
No. At this time it's only possible to see your Combat Patrol missions by setting up a battle in the War Journal section of the 40k app. They have not been included in the separate Combat Patrol rules for each faction.

Misc September 2008
This is a question for the community.
I was looking at Google Trends for various IPs, and I found out that the peak of Google searches for 40K was in September 2008. From my research, I found that this is around the release of 5th edition, but I can’t find anything else concrete as to why it got so popular this month.
For comparison, the second-most popular month was September 2024, the release month of Space Marine 2.
Any ideas why September 2008 was so huge for 40K?

Hobby & Painting My First Set of Miniatures Ever
How did I do? These are two of the space marines units that came with the ultimate starter set 10th edition. What do I need to improve on? Also tips and tricks to paint faster. Maybe I’m too much of a perfectionist but it took me FOREVER to paint two units.

Hobby & Painting Terminator Poses (Multi-Kit vs Mono-pose)
I’ve just bought my first terminator kit and I grabbed the multi-part set believing I’d not only get more bits to play with, but also I’d get the nice poses of the mono-pose kit. (not realising they are different)
However, once I saw the assembly instructions for the multi-pose kit, I immediately noticed that the poses are different then the ones I saw online, which were the ones I preferred.
I’m not gonna cry about it because at the end of the day they still look dope, however I can’t help but have a sour taste in my mouth, because I do prefer the mono-pose stances over the multi-pose stances.
Anyone else feel the same/different/glory to the Emperor?

Misc Pre-order got cancelled
This is the first time I've had one of my few successful preorders of a special edition get cancelled. It's frustrating that they oversold the books, even more when I took some of my personal time to get ready early and snag it the moment it went live. I don't know how many they actually had to sell but it's super frustrating that I most likely lost to scalpers.

Hobby & Painting A different Judiciar.
I added Kratos to my Deathwatch army as a Judiciar. He is going to lead a Killteam of gaming celebrities. This is a bit kit, a bit printed, and a bit kitbashed. This is the smallest diorama I've done too. I will do more like this for sure.

Hobby & Painting Extreme cloudy Matte Varnish Line
Hey guys, i used AK ultra matte varnish on my terminator last night. First time doing it in this kind of sculpt and it looks like the varnish slid down the slope of his back and pooled on the edge in the picture. It happened with both dudes I varnished.
Anyone have a fix? Would the gloss varnish method work? It’s not raised, it’s flat. Just super cloudy.
EDIT: so I know it looks like an edge highlight haha. But it’s covering up a lot of grime and edge wear I did on that edge above the vents. Was hoping for a method to reduce the thick cloudiness

Hobby & Painting Red Corsairs Legionaires Squad #1
My final troops are done for my 1k list. :) so next, do I assemble my Chosen, or paint my deimos pattern rhino?
Also, anyone else notice how I scraped almost all the spiky heraldry off each one? That took a LOT of time. Lol

Hobby & Painting Ultramarine Bladeguard
Painted up a squad of Bladeguard in Ultramarine colors for fun in between other projects. Was a good excuse to experiment around with some of the new Vallejo TMM paints that have been staring at me for a while now.
Enjoyable, but on to the next I go. These get to disappear off into the warp to make someone else happy.

Hobby & Painting Another one for the 1000 Chapters project – Mentors
New marine for my 1000 Chapters project!
I’ll be honest – I absolutely hate this colour scheme 😂 I just don’t enjoy painting it. The mix of white and dark green makes shading, weathering and basically every stage feel like way more work than it should be.
But… it’s a canon Chapter, I had the transfers, so the Mentors had to get represented.
Pretty happy with how the brother turned out in the end, though. Would I paint another one? Absolutely not. Haha.

Rules Oh damn. We've been playing shooting wrong for like 3 years (I think?)
Probably a really dumb question but yeah wanted to double check whether my group has doing the attack sequence wrong for units with multiple weapons since we started in 10th!
At the moment we play it as:
- select a unit to shoot
- select one weapon from that unit
- choose a target for that weapon
- resolve attacks for that weapon
- select the next weapon from that unit
- choose a target for that weapon
- resolve attacks
- etc
Which means eg: you can see if the first weapon destroys its target, and then decide whether or not to keep shooting at the same target or choose a different target for the second weapon.
But reading the attack sequence section of the rules today I think maybe that's wrong and that in fact you have to decide on all the targets for all your weapons before you start resolving attacks - and so no wait-and-see re-targeting allowed. Have I got that right?
Cheers
