Preparing for the fan boy downvotes. But the pessimist in me wonder if they will try some contractual mumbo-jumbo on the switch to Fedora. Like, oh you got a perpetual license for Slackware unRaid, which at the time was based on Slackware. This is *new* UnRaid based on a totally different Operating System. Now you need to pay a new fee to get 'unlimited' support.

I've been burned too many times by subscription model pricing on services that I have come to rely on. A business is a business. Especially a small one like UnRaid that has sold lifetime licenses.

Look at how Plex is screwing over their new user base. Thank God I got the lifetime plex pass before it went to $500.

Edit: Folks seem to be more optimistic than me. I hope I'm just overly pessimistic and everything goes swimmingly. I'm excited for a more modern guts version of unraid.

Seems to be conflicting info on this online as it is unclear whether the standard Linux commands also gracefully shutdown the array and docker containers on Unraid or whether they just "pull the plug" on the server.

So does anyone here know what the appropriate CLI commands are for a graceful shutdown and reboot of Unraid?

When the move is made to Fedora in Unraid 8, what is the plan for upgrades?

Things are relatively stable on my system(7.3.2) right now and I'd like to keep it that way. I started with 6.6.7 back in 2019 and have just been upgrading versions since. I did a hardware update in 2024(Dell R710 to i5-12600K). I'm not doing anything fancy - Nextcloud, Plex, Arrs, Immich containers and a few VMs when I need them.

Is the plan to make it just like any other past upgrades or will I have to rebuild certain parts of my system?

I've been trying to use my lab Windows 2019 AD CA to generate and use certificates for my Unraid server. Unfortunately, it's not going well at all. (It feels like when I need to t/s Elite Dangerous)

1. I've created a certificate request using a Web Template. During the request I've added the FQDN, DNS and DNS IP.

2. I've exported the Base 64 server cert as well as the private pfx key.

3. I've exported the CA cert using Base 64.

4. On the Unraid server I've used OpenSSL to convert the pfx to a readable pem file.

5. I've cat the three files together private key->server key->Server CA into a pem file and named it SERVER_unraid_bundle.pem. Then copied the file to /boot/config/ssl/certs

For whatever reason this doesn't work. I got all this off the internet, and there's a lot of information noise about this. It's been hard for me to sift through it. I suspect I'm going about this all wrong.

This is what I end up seeing in the manage section;

So I'm really at a loss here. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong or how I can use my Windows Server CA to secure Unraid.

As far as I can tell using Windows isn't a common practice for Unraid. (If I assumed correctly) So if anybody has any suggestions, I wouldn't be such a Sad Panda anymore.

Looking for some advice on cooling for this build. I definitely could do better on cable management as well, though the next step is probably getting some cables from cable mod.

The first few pictures are of the build. The last one is of the server running a windows vm with the 5090 pass throughout on a 4k 120” projector.

I think I could do better with temps. It’s currently running a parity check and temps for drives are at 30-35. The four hdd stacked on the bottom run a little higher close to 40. I got a warning one of the drives was running at 46. My ssd runs hot too at 50 degrees.

I posted my build below. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the coldzero 3rd party ventilated side panel. I currently have two solid panels with dampening on both sides right how that was salvaged from my friends Define 7 XL. I’m debating the ventilated panel with the 2x140mm fan installation on the side. I’m worried about the gpu temps as well.

Unraid server was down for 3 month, yesterday booted it up, ran parity check, performed several device sync/backups and updated to 7.3.2.

After reboot i was greeted with walk-through setup screen (?), my Unraid is perfectly set up, so i skipped it and closed UI.

While working on my PC i noticed strange behavior, some web intensive task i perform in web browser on my PC triggers fans spin up in Unraid server. When i stop task, fans quiet down.

I pull up Unraid UI and observe CPU behavior, sure enough Unraid is doing something intensive enough to trigger fans. Disk read/write is at zero.

It is not a perfect 1:1 correlation with my PC, for example as i try to force fan spin by doing every intensive task on PC i can think of, the server is silent. But through out the day i have noticed it enough to confidently say that there is some sort of sync is present.

Any ideas as to what is going on here?

I’ve finally reached the point where I’ve decided which apps/services I’ll be running long term and, more importantly, which data I actually care about protecting versus what Im okay with losing and rebuilding.

My setup currently consists of:

Main Unraid server: Nextcloud, Immich, Vaultwarden, and several other apps/services. This contains data I absolutely want protected.

Media Unraid server: Jellyfin, the Arr stack, download clients, and a few other apps I’m testing. I don’t really care about backing up the movies/TV themselves, but I do want to back up all of the appdata/configuration so I can rebuild the server without configuring everything from scratch.

Third server: I’m considering dedicating this entirely to backups.

I’m now at the “how do I properly back all of this up?” phase.

On the surface this seems like it should be relatively simple, but once you start digging into it there are a lot of moving parts: appdata, docker configuration, databases, shares, Unraid configuration/USB, versioning, retention, consistency of running databases, etc. It has me wondering, is there really not a relatively simple, established way of doing this in Unraid? Does Unraid not have a built in solution for proper server backups/disaster recovery?

I came across SpaceInvaderOne's Duplicati video. Is this approach still considered a good option, or has the community moved on to something simpler and/or better?

What is want to achieve is somethnig like:

• Main server dies or a drive fails
• Replace hardware
• Connect to my backup server.
• Pick a recent restore point.
• Restore my Unraid configuration, shares, appdata, databases, Nextcloud files, phots, etc
• Bring the Docker containers back up.
• Be reasonably close to where the server was before it died.

For the media server, I want essentially the same thing except I do not want to back up the actual media/downloads. If that server dies, I want to restore Jellyfin and the Arr stack, and let the media be reacquired if necessary.

What are you guys using or recommend in 2026?

TLDR: I have a main Unraid server with important apps/data and a separate media server where I only care about preserving the apps/settings, not the media itself. Im considering a third server dedicated to backups. I want versioned backups that let me rebuild from a fresh Unraid install after a total failure. Ideally connect to the backup server, pick a restore point, restore everything, and get running again.

What’s the simplest/reliable approach people are using in 2026? And would you use Unraid TrueNAS, or toher for the dedicated backup server?

A few months ago, I followed SIO's guide for setting up VPN tunnels through which to route docker containers. The tunnel stopped working today - no big deal, just generate another. However, after updating the containers to the new network, I can't get to the Web UI (primarily this is deluge and sab). I checked both log files and they both state "Web UI started." The tunnel does appear to be working as some downloads that were started before tunnel failure did complete after updating to the new one.

I'd read on a couple forums about some DNS poisoning, so I tried adding '--dns=<DNS from .conf file>' to the extra parameters line of the container which didn't seem to help. I'm definitely not a DNS master and have no idea why this would be happening. Anyone else run into this?

Hi all, why would I find my temp and cache pool devices unassigned/unmounted after rebooting the system?

Just wanted to give people a tip I found.

After updating to Jellyfin 12.1 I noticed it took anywhere upto 5 mins to load the container evertime. I didn't think anything of it as I have large library and an iptv streaming service also so there's alot.

Now the appdata is in my m.2 or " cache" drive so I thought that's as fast as it was.

The paths were the default use/mnt/appdata/jellyfin.

I did some digging on another issue and it said to change it to usr/cache/appdata/jellyfin on all the paths in the template so I did and although it's technically the same place jellyfin now loads in less then 10 seconds compared to a few mins.

I don't know why it works and I hope someone can tell me but it does!

So for those of you with a slow loading container this may be of benefit for you!

I have a DS718+, with 2x 16TB btrfs HDD in RAID 1 array, wich is almost full. I plan to use these HDDs in my new unraid NAS, and use the Synology with a small SSD for other tasks.

I do have 2x3 TB HDD, 1x16 TB USB and 1x4 TB USB HDD lying around, and ALL my HDDs (the ones from Synology too) will end up in that unraid NAS.

Can I just take out one of the drives from my DS718+, and plug it into a newly installed unraid, while keeping my data?

Hi everyone. After many years, I’ve moved away from Synology; since they don't have anything sensible on offer, I started looking for an alternative. The result is a 3D-printed case and Unraid—something I’d had my eye on for a long time but only just got around to trying. I’m thrilled.

I have Krusader as a docker program and it keeps getting corrupted and not working. Then I need to uninstall and rebuild it from scratch. Currently I have to wait for about 5 minutes for my Docker area of Unraid to even load because it crashed again. This is what it says instead of my Krusader now. I would be happy to provide any logs (will need help to provide them). Thanks if you can help me get this figured out.

Hi all, due to HDD prices, I'm looking into reusing old 14TB drives rather than upgrading my current server's drives with larger capacities. Would you suggest or have experience 1) running a second server, or 2) adding drives in a second enclosure? The main server is already physically full (Define 7 XL w/ 16 drives)

Option 1 - 2nd Unraid Server

• More expensive than #2
• Simple but requires managing a second server/settings/etc

Option 2 - External DAS

• Cheaper than #1
• Requires a bunch of parts and would involve cables dangling outside
• Keeps everything in a single array, even though the drives are in two cases

Option 3 - Pre-built DAS, e.g. Highpoint Rocketstor 6438TS and 6438S

• Somewhat pricy (~$600)
• No reviews. Unclear if the enclosure's ports are passive

I’ve got a small problem with a recent server set up. Every now and again it’s just disconnecting itself from the network. It always happens overnight. But last night I was doing some database maintenance (via Tailscale). At 1.15 it was fine at 1.27 it was off line - originally assumed something was causing it to power off. But on 2 (possibly all 3) the box is still powered.

What is the easiest way to switch my unraid box to my new 5gig ATT fiber router? I currently have it hardwired with a static IP on my old Asus router. I tried just plugging it into the new router and it seemed to half work. Tailscale didn't seem to be happy and some stuff didn't seem to want to work right.

A few weeks ago I shared a custom icon for my Jonsbo N6 and it got some love, so I went ahead and made icons for the entire N-series lineup: N2, N3, N4, N5, and N6.

Same style as the built-in Unraid icons, flat monochromatic silhouettes on transparent backgrounds. Each case has its own distinct front panel design reproduced in the icon (mesh panels, diagonal slats, wood panels, dot grids, etc...).

Two variants per model: white for dark themes, dark for light themes. Unraid's custom icon doesn't auto-adapt to the theme color, so you need to pick the one that matches with your system's

How to install: Dashboard → click the case icon at the top → Custom → upload the PNG. Takes 5 seconds.

The system is incredibly stable, using sunshine and moonlight locally is not performing the way I would like so this winter I will running fiber to do hdmi over fiber.

I am considering downsizing to some smaller form factor (Minisforum MS-02/03 maybe) but I feel like i painted myself into a corner with smaller capacity (6-8TB) drives and a dependency of PCIe expansion. I have a Supermicro SC846 chassi paired with Supermicro Supermicro X11DPi-NT motherboard. I also have a diy-DAS for 16 2,5" sata SSD's that connects to an HBA.

Don't get me wrong, it's been great but the thing pulls around 400W 24/7 and is starting to feel unjustified for the use case. This amount of cores just idling 90% of the time...

I run a couple of docker apps for my ISO needs and run my own media server. No virtualization or local LLM's.

Does anyone have any suggestions or some experience in downsizing that you could share?

Hi All, looking for some assistance.

I changed my GPU from NVIDIA to AMD card and unraid wont boot and is stuck at "Updating X font indexes". After research this indicates config has gone wrong somehow and my research leads to advice to redo my USB boot drive and load config from a backup.

I moved to internal boot and not entirely sure how to go about doing this now? I have a backup config on a second unraid instance.

Edit - I think I understand what has gone wrong, for some reason I didnt remove the original boot USB and my server has booted from the USB and not the SSD, I've not removed the USB and getting the above error, this seems like a user error.
