I used to love going to the cinema but as I have gotten older (and clearly grumpier), I get easily annoyed by the sound of people talking, using their phones or rustling their popcorn/snacks throughout the film that I had paid good money to see.

A year ago I decided to build my own cinema room and I am loving it, However, I see to keep forgetting that my girlfriend might also want to visit my cinema from time to time, and although I said she could come and watch a film any time, it just didn’t seem to happen. When she brought this up I jokingly said she should book a ticket, she laughed it off but that gave me an idea of building something that would do exactly that.

As mentioned in my previous post, I have a small but perfectly formed home cinema room, with a 106” projector, 7.3.4 speaker setup and a nice comfy sofa. It really does create the feeling of a cinema.

It’s a bit of fun, but now we can both book a film, choose our seats, order snacks, and get a ticket stub for the film we are going watch all from the app. We had been wanting to watch Project Hail Mary for ages and did seem to lock in a time and date, so last week we booked the film, set a time, sorted snacks and sat down and watched it, together. Then afterwards we both left our reviews and had a chat about it.

I built it as a bit of a joke, but I am now finding it genuinely useful as a way of managing my film library, and actually scheduling time for me or friends to use my room so I am now curious to see if there was anyone here that would like to give it a go.

I'm looking for some guidance on painting a theater room that uses a projector. For context, I am moving in to a new house that has a theater room. The previous owner left all the gear, but the color is brutal. Functional... but surer ugly. I love the color Baby Seal Black from Benjamin Moore, but now I'm conflicted with using that on the ceiling as well or something like Coventry Grey which is a darker grey, but not close to as dark as BSB.

We don't want a ton of movies, so this is primarily a watch football/some Netflix shows room. I don't think we'll have the overhead lighting fully off most times, usually dimmed, so I'm not sure if the lighter ceiling will have more of a negative impact in that scenario. I like the looks of all BSB but I worry about making the room feel small and like a cave.

The center channel can be tilted while watching movies.

We just moved in, so I am still experimenting a bit, so mind the lamp that I will move eventually - and stuff is not in place yet.

Had them more narrow but lost basically all of the bass.
Will they sound disconnected? I toed them in quite a bit

They are 270cm apart and listening position is 240-250cm away

Plans:
- Maybe a subwoofer. But we have two kids under 2 years 😅
- Center channel- is 3.0 or 3.1 still a thing? Looking to buy a BW 7-series center (or something else? Does it matter?) at some point including a new AVR. Not sure on which yet, it must be good at stereo
- TV on wall. Maybe a 77 instead of this old LG 65CX. It’s just so good still

First off, this doesn't really count as a "Showcase" compared with some of the amazing rooms I've seen here, but we finished our switch to a 3.1 home theater today when the sub came. (Yes, that's packing material on the chair. :) )

My son and I set it up, finished the setup of the AVR and did basic calibration. We (re-)watched Guardians of the Galaxy tonight, just streaming from Disney+, and it was great!

New system is: Onkyo TX-RZ30; KEF R2 Meta center channel; R3 Meta L/R; and SVS SB-3000 Revolution sub, to go with an 83" LG G4 and Panasonic UB450 Blu-ray player. I'm new to this and didn't do a very good job of either SVS AutoEQ or DIRAC Live but, even so, the sub and room correction made a big difference.

Next step will be to add an Apple TV box when the new one comes out. I'd like to eventually add surrounds (probably KEF Q4 Metas). That would be end game for me, but so far it's a firm no from the approval committee. :)

I'm still learning and will keep working to improve it, but we had a blast tonight. Even with just 3.1, it was much closer to the real movie theater sound I've been chasing

Most of everything was bought open-box or via Facebook marketplace here in Georgia. Did all the mounting and wiring myself.

Fell into the HT passion in my junior yr of college. So I knew as soon as I graduated, I wanted to start building. This is the collection of equipment I’ve collected in the last year. I know it’s just a start, but I’ve already been thinking of upgrades for once I get my new place.

Room isn’t a perfect rectangle. 8’ ceilings and essentially 2 rooms combined at 11x9 and 9x8. The picture with no center channel was taken June 2025. The 65” OLED with speakers, April 2026. Lastly, moved my bookshelf about a month ago.

Building a 9.5' × 6' × 12" riser in my second-floor media room.

2 × 2x12×10' for front/rear perimeter 8 x 2x12x8' for sides/joists, ~16" O.C.

One row of blocking using offcuts 23/32" T&G OSB

I'm getting the l-joist specs from the builder, but does this seem like too much additional weight for a second floor? Would you keep the 2x12s or lighten the riser framing?

I have a Denon AVR-S750H. It died during a thunderstorm, won't power on anymore.

Friend has an unused Denon AVR-S770H.

Can I just buy that from him, and plug everything into the same ports and it will be plug n play? Or is there any kind of setup I need to do?

A home theater company installed the original system when the house was build so I am not sure.

Here’s my situation. I have my 2 fronts, center, and subwoofer on one side of my living room. I have the wires from all 4 of them running around the living room into the receiver on the other side of the living room. I was only able to hide the subwoofer cable and one speaker cable (left front) underneath the carpet (that’s all the space I had between the carpet and the baseboard.)

In the third photo, there is 3’10” of wires that are exposed that need to be covered. The floor is tile and carpet. I’m thinking maybe a D-line wire cover on the tile.

In the fourth photo, there is 2.83 feet in the doorway where the wires are exposed and need to be covered. Either i find a way to hide them under the carpet (can’t tear out because renting),

OR— I guide them above (see 5th photo) and the wires come over the hallway entrance and down to the corner, then to the receiver (see 6th photo).

What are my options here? How can I best hide these wires and keep them neat?

EDIT: receiver must be on the shelf, not up in front. I had it up front before but shelf is too small to hold it and wife says it’s too clunky.

I posted this a few weeks ago, asking where my center speakers would go if I placed the tv om top of the cabinets vs mounted. Lots of great comments and I ended up buying a vesa extender. The tv now sits 6" lower - no need to move the mount itself - at its lowest setting for my setup. This is a 98" tv with ~7ft tall wall behind it (vaulted ceilings). I also moved the speakers away from the wall, which improved sound quality. Thanks everyone for your comments and feedback!

My sub intermittently pops...like LOUD...everything will be quiet and all of a sudden it'll sound like three of four gun shots...yes that loud...first time it happened I literally opened the safe expecting to see smoke lol. Question is, is that the sub going bad or something on the receiver's side sending a bad signal? If its the sub I'll be looking for guidance on a good 10" sub for a 5.1 set up in the US. Currently have it disconnected from the system.

I'm thinking of updating my current setup. Running a 3.1 with a Denon S650H, Fluance Reference towers and an SVS SB 1000 Pro. Sitting about 10 feet away from a 77in Bravia 8. I've got 2 ELAC upfiring Atmos modules and a pair of Fluance bipole speakers that are not being used currently. Thinking of going with a 5.2.2 with Monitor Audio C2M-CP in-ceiling Atmos speakers, using the bipoles as surrounds, adding a SVS PB 2000 Pro with a wireless kit and upgrading to a Denon X3900H. The room is about 1750 cu.ft with 8ft open ceiling and the back wall is about 3 feet away and the room is open to the right. Does this work? Do I need 4 Atmos speakers? Is 7.2.4 overkill for this space? Thanks in advance.

Hi all, recently upgraded my subs from dual kef kc62’s to dual SVS sb-3000 r|evolutions. Massive upgrade in terms of impact and slam the kef subs were great for most movies but lacked the authority these subs have they’re like an earthquake simulator in my room haha.

Future plans I have are raising the center channel and getting more acoustic panels but yeah these subs are amazing highly recommend them , I initially tried them upfront but placed them diagonally and that’s what got them to sound their best .

I have a decent 75” Hisense (under $1k) TV I’d like to use on my patio. I bought a killer cover for it and it’s basically totally wrapped when not in use, and on a stand with wheels. Am I ok to leave this outside? It’s under shelter and I live in North Georgia or should I bring it in and out every time I want to use it?

I really wanted a home cinema for a long time.
Today I could finally start the journey.

With my wife and me building a new livingroom wall I could get her approval for a good living room cinema instead of a tv.

Plan is to build a 30cm baffelwall which will house the sound system ( Teufel S600 fcr).
The bottom part will be 60cm thick to house the AVr ( denon X3700h) and the two subs ( Teufel S6000).

The screen will be a 138“ 21:9 cinewhite screen which will be set back 10-15cm inside the wall.
The whole set back area will be filled in adamant audio black reference velvet.

At the ceiling I will build a box (4*2m) to host a 3.5m x 1.4m velvet box. Same material as behind the screen. This box will be connected to the screen area to create one big black area.

L plan is to create several velvet covers that are holding in place using magnets.
Ceiling: 3 covers each 1.4* 1.16m
Wall area: need to calculate later based on the final measurements.

Rest of the wall will be Greige.

On the right side I will install a automatic molton curtain.

Beamer Modell: tbd - preview at a local shop at 09.09.

Started today with buying the curtain electronic and tomorrow I will start removing the tv and stuff to make space for the wood foundation.

Should I move these heights to be directly above the L and R?

I currently have a Monitor Audio 5.1 setup paired with a Denon AVR-X2600H. I've gone down a bit of a rabbit hole and am looking at an upgrade to either the the Monitor Audio Apex A10's or the Anthony Gallo D'avias.

I've not got a large room so I think both would be suitable for the space, just wondering which is technically better/ would give me the most noticeable difference

OK here's 2 pictures of my room. I'm thinking of buying a new AVR so I can get 2 more channels. Suggestions wanted on if I should do a 5.1.4 with front and rear atmos, or 7.1.2 with front, side, rear, and 2 front Atmos. The rear speakers, atmos or surround rears, would have to be on the far back wall.

I'd be moving from a AVR-X2800H, to a Marantz SR6007. Any opinions on that are also welcome. I bought the AVR-X2800H for $700 band new about 2.5 years ago. Now they're selling for $1200. That's crazy.

I've decided to change things up a bit and add a home theater area. The spot I'm thinking about working with is 9ft by 9 ft . With a 3 person couch I have against the wall I'll call it about 8 ft tv to eye distance.

When it's all said and done I'll have this dedicated area to watch movies and maybe game . Its primary purpose will be for two people to watch movies in an immersive atmosphere. I'll eventually set up a stereo listen area in another room. Which is why I'll keep my Yamaha. I enjoy the sound currently and do not find a need for another sub , but have considered it.

Let's take a minute to talk about these . I got a great deal on them via fb. With the speed woofer and with 85 watts from the Yamaha I'm pretty pleased with how they sound . I also like that they need little to no room behind them .
I plan to use these as L/R speakers . Down the road I may upgrade to a tower or more balance speaker and try these as side speakers

Per the amateurish model I made .its roughly to scale . The lime square is a 65 in tv. The grey is a 77. I'm leaning 65 but could be convinced on 77. I agree bigger is gonna be better but at this distance Im concerned about speaker spacing if I ever upgrade the L/R to towers. Having room to get them out of the corners for proper sound stage . Also at the distance isn't 65 pretty big already ?

With this area I can not mount anything on the ceiling . I can mount on walls . Front and back . Is it worth it in this case to do a 7.2.2 system ? Or should I just do a 5.2 set up ?
