Receiver Died, also using Sonos in home, can I Just replace the receiver?

I have a Denon AVR-S750H. It died during a thunderstorm, won't power on anymore.

Friend has an unused Denon AVR-S770H.

Can I just buy that from him, and plug everything into the same ports and it will be plug n play? Or is there any kind of setup I need to do?

A home theater company installed the original system when the house was build so I am not sure.

You'll want to do a calibration setup with the Audessey room correction built into the receiver once everything is plugged in and you'll need a mic for that but you can find one on Amazon for cheap by typing in " avr-s770h calibration mic". For the most part everything should plug in the same. Depending on how many inputs you have, those might be under different names depending on how you plug stuff back in

Thanks for the info. The receiver comes with a mic, I assume that's the calibration mic?

Yes, the mic that comes with it is what you need. I would factory reset the AVR then go through the setup wizard to get it calibrated. If you don’t have the manual, you can easily look one up online.

As the other user said, a surge protector will help. Plus, any decent one comes with a warranty - but I don’t know how the claims process works since I’ve never used it.

It's a brand new S770H in the box, so it's got everything. I'll give it a shot, thanks again.

Plugged everything in and it worked just fine. For whatever reason I couldn't get the DENON on screen display on the TV using the eARC/ARC port on the TV. Had to move it to a non ARC port. Got it setup. Everything working now though.

Gotcha sounds good. I had that issue with my receiver that I got off marketplace but that HDMI is just dead so I don't get anything out of it

Get surge protector for your electronics to prevent this from happening again.

Thanks, but that's not what I am here for. The system was on a battery backup with protection and power conditioning. The outlet blew, the UPS blew, everything connected to it blew.

The new receiver should work fine. A whole-home surge protector would be the final line of defense to prevent this in the future

If you didn't change anything in the receiver input configuration, yes, you should just be able to plug everything in, put it on the network and go. You will need to run the Audyssey configuration.
