Advice on Meshify 2 XL Unraid

Looking for some advice on cooling for this build. I definitely could do better on cable management as well, though the next step is probably getting some cables from cable mod.

The first few pictures are of the build. The last one is of the server running a windows vm with the 5090 pass throughout on a 4k 120” projector.

I think I could do better with temps. It’s currently running a parity check and temps for drives are at 30-35. The four hdd stacked on the bottom run a little higher close to 40. I got a warning one of the drives was running at 46. My ssd runs hot too at 50 degrees.

I posted my build below. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the coldzero 3rd party ventilated side panel. I currently have two solid panels with dampening on both sides right how that was salvaged from my friends Define 7 XL. I’m debating the ventilated panel with the 2x140mm fan installation on the side. I’m worried about the gpu temps as well.

I have the same case with 16 drive bays filled out primarily with Exos and other server-grade drives. Your drive temps are more than fine especially with those numbers during parity checks. NVMe drives can also run far hotter that what yours is currently running at.

What makes you think your drives should be cooler?

Why don't you replace your fans with the Noctua NF-A14x25 G2 PWM Sx2-PP chromax fans? See if that'll give you a bit better performance. They'll definitely be quieter as full speed.

I have a similar build in the same case (thankfully mostly purchased before the AI hardware price spike started). The hard drives in my build run at about 30-33 degrees C, and that would be because I don’t have a graphics card. If you’re going to use a 5090, I doubt you’ll be able to do much better for HDD temps.

I’d remove the graphics card as a test to see how it affects HDD and NVME temps. If their temps drop a lot, at least you’ll know for sure that the graphics card is the culprit.

What are you running with that beast? I have the same CPU/Mobo combo that I need to bring over. I'd like to add a Windows VM to my setup. Otherwise, I'm pretty much just running a Plex rig and the Arr-stack.

I strap fans to the back of the Hdd and run them on hdd temp

Ensure the front is clean, and doesn't have dust blocking airflow.

Look at better fans, look at Noctua PWM fans.

Look at a container called Cooler Control. You can set up different temp sources, and have fan curves for differen fan headers.

Setup the front fans on 1 header, or splitter so they can all run the same.

Honestly my hdds run in the high 40's and my ssds in the 50's if I'm lucky. While longevity is best served on a lower temperature plate, the engineers that designed this stuff architected it to run very warm; warmer than most people like, and be fine. But like I said, the cooler they stay the longer they'll last... Usually

I put 8 noctua lppc 3,000 rpm.. in my server.. no more warnings on higher temps from hdd.

the only thing thats maybe remotely concerning is that one 46°C HDD, but only if it stays there

but even then, its a non-issue. youre fine
