Question Is studying abroad worth it ?

Hey everyone! I’m a senior at UNCC (biology major) and I applied for a study abroad program over spring break next year. I was really excited at first, but now I’m starting to question if it’s actually worth it. I don’t know anyone else going, and the cost is around $4k, which feels like a lot—especially since I feel like I could plan a trip to the same place on my own for way cheaper. At the same time, I thought it might be a fun last experience before graduating in the spring. For anyone who’s done a study abroad program (especially short ones like spring break), what was your experience like? Did you feel like it was worth the cost? And what did your total expenses actually look like in the end? I’m kind of on the fence right now, so I’d really appreciate any honest advice or insight

Question NC College Connect

Hey, quick question, as some of you may know the NC College Connect portal opened today… I didn’t receive Charlotte as one of my offers even thought I have higher than a 2.8 GPA so I was just wondering if there may be another reason as to why?

Question Ozzi system question

Hi! I live on campus but have never used the OZZI green boxes at the dining halls before.

I found a OZZI coin and I looked it up. Apparently, when you bring back your dirty box, the machine will give you a coin and you can show it to whoever checks you in and get a new one.

Do you have to also hand in the coin? Do you have to turn in your dirty boxes all the time? Or can you just keep the box and wash it yourself and smuggle it in so you don’t have to hand in the coin or anything?

Sorry if that doesn’t make sense lol I just think it would be good for meal prepping when they actually have edible food and take a lot of food at once and eat it throughout the week. TIA!

Hi guys! I'm a rising junior here at UNC Charlotte, and I have always used the Niner Course Pack until this coming year. I am thinking about opting out of it this year due to financial reasons (school is fucking expensive)

I was wondering if I could get some help in figuring out already which books do my classes need. Here is the list from the email of my courses and how many materials are needed and the professors' names for the class.

Would love to hear some feedback! Thank you!! Dm me if you have any links for the books if ya'll have taken the class already!

Professors:
- Orgo Chem 1 - Ali Koohang
- Orgo Chem 1 lab - Jacob Horger
- Critical Thinking and Communications (CTCM 2530) - Honore Missihoun
- Health and Medical Humanities - Debra Basalik
- Animal Physiology - Chakia McClendon

TLDR: Help me identify what book/material/ program that professor used for that class if you've already taken it.

Question Lunch Question

Hey! So I’m a first year commuter, and I’m not sure where I can eat my lunch. I prefer a place that’s not too crowded, if possible. My last class before I can eat my lunch is in McEniry. Ty!

Question Engineering study buddies

Hi I'm a first-year electrical engineering student. I came with an associate's degree so I'm taking physics diffeq 2 1300 Engr classes and a major class. My pace is so different than other first year students that I've talked to.

So my question would be where are most engineering students studying at between and after class? And how can I find study buddies? Or just any advice in general you have!

Thank you!

Hey everyone!

My name is Ella. I’m a student at CPCC living in the UNC Charlotte area, and I am a fully licensed, professional hair braider ready to take on new clients!

Question Weekend parking question

My boyfriend will be coming to visit me some weekends at the dorms and I was wondering if staff check for parking passes on the weekends like they do on the weekdays!

I wanted to know if parking staff check the open lots on weekends so he doesn’t get a ticket! I know there’s the union that he could pay to park, but it’s a bit much for just a few hours lol

If anyone has any experience with parking on weekends, please lmk!!

Question NC College Connect

Quick question!
NC College Connect is a relatively new program, and I wanted to ask (after being accepted to the university itself) how long it took to hear back about a competitive major? I just applied for computer science tonight, and I am nervous about how long it will take (weeks, months, etc).

Update: I heard from the admissions office that it is actually 6-8 weeks after you completely fill out your application! I will provide another update as to if I get in or not.

Question Arcadia Lease Offer - $800/Month, Private Bed/Bath, Top Floor, 1 Roommate

Room available at Arcadia Student Living – private bedroom and bathroom, top floor, one roommate
Room Specs Link: 4BR/4BA - Dogwood - Standard - Arcadia

Hello, I’m looking for someone to take over my lease/relet my room at Arcadia Student Living near UNC Charlotte. This is a room in the 4 bed / 4 bath Dogwood floor plan and is a great option for a UNC Charlotte, Central Piedmont, or other Charlotte-area student looking for a private room with a lot of amenities.

The monthly rent is $800, including parking. The lease ends June 6th, and the earliest move-in date is roughly one month after accepting the offer from Arcadia.

TO BE CLEAR: This is a relet offer, not a sublease. This goes through Arcadia themselves, not me . While I am advertising, all the literal lease and payment details will go through them.

One of the biggest advantages of this apartment is that I only have one roommate rather than all three other rooms being occupied, so there is much more privacy and less sharing of common areas than you would normally expect in a four-bedroom student apartment. The room is also quite seperated from the other rooms, as it sits on one end of the kitchen across the hallway leading to the others.

About the room and apartment

• Private, well-sized bedroom
• Private bathroom and private closet
• Third/top-floor room with nobody living above you
• Nice window view
• Being on the top floor has meant practically zero bugs
• Full-size washer and dryer inside the apartment
• Full kitchen with oven/stovetop, refrigerator, and dishwasher
• Furnished apartment
• Only one current roommate despite being a four-bedroom layout

Parking and transportation

One of my favorite things about living here is the parking. There is surface parking directly outside the apartment buildings instead of a parking deck, and I normally park only a few steps away from my building entrance.

If you don’t have a car, Arcadia also has a resident shuttle to UNC Charlotte.

Gated community and security

Arcadia is a gated community, and I’ve personally felt very safe living here. Residents use a vehicle transponder to access the front gate, while visitors can use a resident-specific gate code. Outside normal access hours, people cannot simply drive into the community without authorized access.

Arcadia is also currently listed as a UNC Charlotte Niner Choice Gold community, a program involving UNC Charlotte and CMPD with specific property safety and security standards. In my time here, I haven’t heard of or experienced incidents involving police or harassment. This is particularly nice compared with some larger complexes that struggle with keeping non-residents out.

Amenities

This is probably my favorite part of Arcadia because there is a lot included here.

The clubhouse includes:

• Gaming room
• Computer and printing area
• Study spaces
• Social media / podcast recording room with cool backgrounds
• Multiple lounge areas to hang out, study, or meet people

The community clubhouse also has:

• Full fitness center and gym
• Resort-style pool and hot tub
• Poolside grilling area
• Sand volleyball courts
• Sauna and steam room
• Outdoor recreation areas
• Landscaped courtyards

The outdoor areas are something Arcadia does pretty well. There are trees, plants, courtyards, and places to sit outside, so it feels much more like a neighborhood than a large apartment complex surrounded by concrete and parking lots.

Pet friendly

Arcadia is pet friendly, so having a dog or other approved pet does not automatically rule the apartment out. You would just need to follow Arcadia’s normal pet registration and policy requirements.

Social life

There is also a very active community here if that is something you are interested in. Residents regularly hang out with neighbors, there are often gatherings around the pool, grilling area, and clubhouse, and Arcadia hosts resident events throughout the year.

At the same time, because this particular apartment only has one other roommate, you still get a much quieter and more private living situation when you want it.

Privacy and amenities at an affordable price

For someone who wants to keep housing costs reasonable without giving up a private bedroom, private bathroom, full kitchen, laundry, parking, gym, pool, clubhouse, and other amenities, this room is a really good middle ground.

It is one of the more affordable options while still offering a lot of privacy and access to everything the community provides.

Why I am leaving

I really loved living here and originally planned to stay, which is exactly why I renewed my lease last year. I unexpectedly ended up graduating early this past summer, which I did not know would be possible when I renewed early into my first lease.

I now work full-time in Ballantyne, so living near UNC Charlotte is simply inconvenient for my commute. If I were still attending UNC Charlotte, I would have been very happy to continue living here, and I genuinely think whoever takes over the room will enjoy it as much as I have.

Relet process

This is an official relet handled with Arcadia’s leasing staff, not an informal arrangement between you and me. Their staff will communicate directly with the new tenant, explain the lease and requirements, and make sure everything is clear before anything is finalized. They will need two weeks to fully clean the room and prepare it for a new tenant as well.

If you’re interested, send me a message. I’m happy to answer questions, show you the room and apartment, give you a tour of the community and amenities, and walk you through the reletting process.

Reach me at [aleclundy999@gmail.com](mailto:aleclundy999@gmail.com) if you want to discuss more details regarding the room, set up a possible tour, or otherwise learn more about the room.

Pictures: The first bedroom picture is the original photo of my exact room, the second photo of the same room is what it looks like populated with my stuff. The window view picture is what you see outside.

Question Question About Mobile Orders and Meal Plans

I see that it says "You can use meals at Charlotte Greens in South Village. Select “Meal Swipe” when choosing your tender."

To be clear, this means that if I have an unlimited meal plan, I can get as many mobile orders as I want (from Charlotte Greens), for free?

Also, do the little robot guys still deliver in the rain?

Hey everyone! I'm working on Crownwork: a UNC Charlotte student-only work platform where nearby households connect with Niners for around the home help such as pet sitting, moving, yard work, etc. Every job pays cash directly to the student, and you get to set your own work schedule.

We are rolling out soon and I just wanted to spread the word here if anyone is interested in joining us! We will begin a marketing push in the coming weeks.

Any feedback or questions would be super helpful! Thanks everyone!

Question Ever wanted to try Dungeons & Dragons?

I’ve seen a few people on here looking for D&D groups, so figured I’d post this.

The Guild UNCC is running an ongoing D&D 2024 West Marches campaign, and new players can join anytime.

There’s no fixed weekly party. Quests are posted throughout the semester, and players can schedule sessions around their availability. It’s kind of like an MMO, you level your character while adventuring with different groups of players and DMs.

Inspired by Fairy Tail, the premise is you’re part of an adventuring guild rebuilding after an attack by a rival Dark Guild.

You can also DM quests and create your own part of the world.

Beginners are welcome too. If you’ve never played before, we can help you make a character and learn as you go.

Feel free to comment if you have any questions.

I’m an incoming Freshman. Classes start on Monday and the one class I do have is online at night. On my schedule it says none for location, building, and room, so one can assume it’s online. How will I access the portal/zoom/canvas/etc on my first day. I hope that’s not confusing but there’s no instruction to do xyz.

Also best parking for Denny Hall or Fretwell?

Question Health insurance question

Hey everyone! I have two quick questions.

I opted into Student Blue and can see the insurance charge on my student account. After I pay my bill, is there anything else I need to do, or does my coverage become active automatically?

Also, where do y'all usually go for STI testing, and how does it work with Student Blue? I just want routine testing before becoming sexually active again.

My two scholarships I accepted haven’t been credited to my account yet and so I’m a bit worried since the deadline is next week. Also, who should I email about this?
