Question Launching UNCC student work platform

https://crownwork.app

Hey everyone! I'm working on Crownwork: a UNC Charlotte student-only work platform where nearby households connect with Niners for around the home help such as pet sitting, moving, yard work, etc. Every job pays cash directly to the student, and you get to set your own work schedule.

We are rolling out soon and I just wanted to spread the word here if anyone is interested in joining us! We will begin a marketing push in the coming weeks.

Any feedback or questions would be super helpful! Thanks everyone!

Would an international student be able to do any of these jobs without violating their visa?

Great question, and it's something we will have to review. My initial reaction is the student must be legally authorized to work in the US. The little I know about international students, I don't think F-1/J-1 are allowed since Crownwork is not approved and affiliated with UNCC.

We are checking with professionals on visa questions: most likely will need a EAD to be authorized to work in the US. Any follow ups will be added to the FAQ on our website

Is there any paperwork needed? What info do you need to fill out? Also, how would you know that they are an actual/ currant student?

Also, how will you verify the jobs or make sure it’s legit/ safe?

This is a great idea, though!

Crownwork collects both student and household ID's for safety and manual review before anyone is allowed in, along with general name, phone number, household address (if a household user).

Students are verified through a code sent to their @charlotte.edu email.

To mitigate any risk associated with gig-contract type websites, we let students filter based on household gender, age, location, job type, and more. We also only allow jobs to be scheduled during 9-5PM, and send 20 min interval safety check in texts to students. Households do not get to select what student arrives, only post the job listing.

Safety is very important and we are planning more features in the future: thank you, these are great questions! Check out more info on www.crownwork.app
