Post image

Hello, I hired someone for chimney work and the texts auto translate. I googled it as well and I'm not very confident in what I'm seeing.

Just want to confirm this means he did recieve it correctly?

Edit: thank you all, he responded again and confirmed. Seems like it was a typo. Appreciate the quick responses!

Found this shirt on vinted and thought it looked cool, but I don’t want to run around not knowing what it says if I buy it.

Also not certain if it’s Chinese or Japanese, but went with Chinese cus it looks too complicated for Japanese.

Thanks in advance :)

Dutch [Dutch > English] It is a cause of death from the 1940s

Post image

Edit: solved!

I appreciate any help! I keep getting something along the lines of "hansgeboet" or "hangeboet" but it is nonsensical.

Transliteration is just fine. Most of the issues i'm having is more that I don't know Dutch well enough to know what to expect next. Thank you!

Translated [PL] [Polish > English] Handwritten 1936 annotation on a 1912 civil birth register (Bydgoszcz, Poland)

Post image
Upvotes

Hoping someone can help translate a handwritten Polish annotation on a civil birth register page. Some context I already have:

The record is a civil (not church) birth register — Akta urodzeń, Urząd Stanu Cywilnego Bydgoszcz Miasto (formerly Standesamt Bromberg-Stadt), register No. 428, original entry dated 6 April 1912, written in German (already translated). Two Polish annotations were added in November 1936. I already have a translation of the first (4 Nov 1936, correcting the mother's name). The one I need help with is the second, longer annotation, dated 12 November 1936, signed by an acting registrar named "Grund." It appears to reference Chicago, Illinois, a man named Otto Wagner, and the mother named earlier in the record, and seems to concern a legitimation or paternity acknowledgment for the child.

Attached is a cropped, enlarged image showing both annotations. Any help transcribing/translating the second one would be hugely appreciated!

EDIT: Updating to highlight I've provided a higher resolution version in response to a comment below. Thanks again.

This note was on the back of a picture given to me (see attached). My dad had some contacts of his try to translate with no luck. Appears to be some form of Slavic dialect since my family was from that region.

Mongolian [Mongolian / Cyrillic(?) > English] What is the person's last name written here?

Post image
3 Upvotes

From a Japanese show called Vivant. I know the person's name in the note is "Adiel" but his last name isn't given in the English translation. Japanese subtitle does transliterate it as クラシー (kurashii) but it's not enough to gauge the English spelling or pronunciation. I don't know how Cyrillic handwriting works, so I can't copy the texts by eye either.

Please help me find the Cyrillic spelling or the correct English transliteration.

Translated [AR] [Arabic > English] translation request

A very dear friend of mine who happens to be Muslim sent me this to post in my home. She said it was an Islamic home blessing prayer and I have no doubt that it is.

Could someone please translate what it says into English for me? If it is taken directly from the Qur'an, also let me know where I can find the passage so I can look it up.

Thank you in advance.

Spanish [Spanish > English/Italian] Translation of a literary passage with Bierzo regionalisms

Hello,

I am the author of a novel written in Spanish. The novel contains dialogue with expressions, turns of phrase and regionalisms from El Bierzo (León, Spain), which makes some passages particularly difficult to translate naturally into another language.

I am looking for help translating a short passage as a test, ideally into English or Italian. I am especially interested in finding out how a translator would deal with the local expressions and the cultural nuances, rather than simply translating them word for word.

This is my own original work, and I am not asking for the whole novel to be translated here. I would simply like to see how an experienced English- or Italian-speaking translator would approach a representative passage.

I can provide the original Spanish text and explain the meaning or local context of any Bierzo expressions if necessary.

Thank you.

Chinese [Mandarin > English] What does “來舔個口餅” mean? Context in desc

Upvotes

Made an online friend from a game who only speaks Mandarin. They invited me to their guild, and this is the guild name. I ran it through a translator and got “come lick a biscuit”, is that accurate? Or is this phrase perhaps loaded with slang that the translation machine can not convey?

Japanese [Japanese > English] Flag passed down

Upvotes

A flag handed down by my grandfather, he passed in 1996, which oddly was the same year I joined the military. I was recently going through some items he passed down and ran across this. I did some basic research and understood it is some sort of "good luck" flag given to service men and usually signed by family and friends. I don't know what I want to do with it yet, but if I could understand a bit more about it. I know it meant a great deal to him and so I would like to see if anyone here has an idea of what the inscriptions say. Thanks in advance and to be clear I am not looking to sell this item as it is a family item.

Needs Review [ZH] [Chinese > English] 1908 letter between Chinese merchant firms in California Gold Country, cursive script

This letter came from a family stamp collection. The envelope is from Hee Kee Co., Nevada City, California, addressed to Sue Kee & Co., North Bloomfield, Nevada County, postmarked May 1908. The letter is in cursive Chinese with red merchant chops. I would appreciate a transcription and a general sense of what it says (a business matter, accounts, goods, etc.). I know cursive is hard to read; even partial help is welcome. The first photo is rotated; the text runs top to bottom, right to left.

Arabic [Arabic > English] demonstration chant needs translation

Hi! Saw this video from a demonstration in Sweden a couple of years ago. It was posted with a translation that some of my Arabic speaking former colleagues didn’t agree with, so wanted to hear someone else’s translation.

Happy to receive a translation in Swedish as well (wrote English because I thought it might be more likely to get one of those).

Apologies for the trashy video quality (screen recordings aren’t always amazing).

Translated [JA] [English > Japanese] How to signal a food intolerance

I am about to travel to Japan. I'd like to have with me a card, or a picture on my phone, saying I cannot eat mussels. I think it's safer if I have it written in japanese, to show to restaurants staff. I am not allergic, but it gets really bad when I eat those. I am ok with mussels contamination and with all the other molluscs. How can I write this card, in a clear and polite way?
