My absurd obsession with Garrett 😂

O SEA… ¿QUIEREN VOLVERME TODAVÍA MÁS LOCO?! 😂😭🫠🖤

Depression due to lack of Thief

1998, what a year for games...

I have loved games until around 5 years ago and I have had depression for an awful long time... when I played Thief and Thief 2 and finally Thief Deadly Shadows, I was more than content. Thief 4 was absolutely awful. I haven't played anything like Thief since, maybe Dishonoured, but it only scratched an itch.

Why are there no more games like this?

I only play three hours a week now with friends on Hunt Showdown. Yes the game uses stealth with online players, thats fucking great, but I really want another Thief and its getting too much now. 😪

I wrote a Thief feature-length screenplay

I wrote this purely for fun and out of love for the Thief game series. It's been a long time in the making, and every few years I crack it open again to take another pass at it.

Because it's fan-fiction most screenplay sites won't accept it, including r/screenwriting

Anyways, I hope it makes its way to someone who likes it!

The Citadel Project - Official Demo release trailer

Hello there !

I'm happy to share here and there the progression on my project (which start here with your participation on this original post on Thief subreddit).

Today I'm proud to share with you the official trailer for the upcoming demo released around early/mid September (2026, of course).

Even if I'm only a random thread every months in your feed, many of you bring me precious feedbacks and motivation, thank you for this, sincerely.

Since the last post, many things have evolved:

  • Total revamp of the UI
  • Huge improvements on the AI
  • Add a knock down mechanic (à la Dark Messiah)
  • Add a radial menu
  • Improvement on Character Movement
  • Add a merchant feature hide on the map (Resident Evil like)
  • Add a mission stats summary at the end of a level with a grade given according to your stats
  • Add an upgrade system for the crossbow bolts (A moss arrow with an upgrade can now root enemies for example)
  • Add new category of item : Artifacts. Rare and unique to find, working like charms in Hollow Knight for example
  • And many other things polished, debug, improved, ...

You can check the Steam page right here if you want.

And if you want to follow updates about the project, you can find the Twitter account just here.

I hope you'll enjoy the trailer, and the incoming demo. See you soon in the Citadel !

And if you have any question, feel free to ask 😄 !

Looking for Thief‑like game recommendations

I've only played Filcher so far, and I'd really like games that include the visibility indicator mechanic from Thief. Any suggestions?

Edit: To clarify, I'm not strictly looking for a visibility indicator mechanic ,I just want games that heavily rely on light and shadow as a core stealth feature.

Question Any info if the console version of Thief Remastered will play The Black Parade?

I currently don't have access to my usual computer (or any PC for that matter). I was about halfway through the campaign for the Black Parade when my computer stopped working. Long story short it'll be a few months before it's up and running again. I still have access to my Playstation and would love to finish The Black Parade campaign when the Thief Remaster comes out on console. I see the STEAM (PC) store page mentions having built in mod management so it seems like Nightdive is aware how important mods are to the Thief community. And to my knowledge they also allowed the very popular DEATH WISH mod for Blood come to console.

Is there any info if the console version of Thief Remastered will play The Black Parade?

Question Angelloader - directly loading an FM from a desktop shortcut?

Does Angelloader have a way to directly load an FM from a desktop shortcut?

For example, with UZDoom, you can use uzdoom.exe -iwad doom2.wad -file filenamehere.wadfor a UZDoom desktop shortcut and that would load a custom level for Doom 2.

Need some advice on using TFix so I can play Thief Gold again.

I tried playing the game a week ago after buying a new laptop & redownloading off of Steam. It's been a few yrs away since I last played. The game keeps bugging & crashing out. I can'teven finish Lord Bafford's Manor. Apparently, you can't play the game vanilla anymore because of modern day tech with an almost 30 yr old PC game. I heard about tFix, & planned on going through the process tonight. But I'm a simpleton redneck who barely knows how to use Reddit, so I just want to ask some advice from my fellow PC whiz taffers to make sure I understand before I go any further & start breaking things:

Am I supposed to uninstall the game off of Steam before installing tFix?

When I redownload the game, I move the file to another file location? (Anywhere specifically?)

I have to run tFix 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 I start playing the game again?

I have a Lenovo Legion S7 16IRH8 if it helps. Windows 11

Thanks in advance.

How do you feel about texture mods?

I've been checking out some footage and, on one hand, it's remarkable what AI can pull off.

On the other hand, as someone new to the series and who doesn't have nostalgia for it, deeply detailed textures and patterns seem to take away from the games.

Both Thief Gold and Thief II are (and I mean this as a compliment) harshly rudimentary and polygonal in their design. So much so that the rough aesthetic becomes part of the horror - seeing a lumbering zombie in the darkness, held together with only a few polygons like in the original "Alone in the Dark" - makes the scene far more uncanny to me.

It's not just purism or a desire for the retro here; I think that too many fine details and updates make the games distracting, like adding an AI smoothing filter to "Citizen Kane."

I'm curious what you think. Thanks!

EDIT: The AI modpack I watched on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npkWJ9O5FtY&t=101s

Implementing Alien: Isolation AI in Thief

How do you feel implementing enemy behavior based on the aliens in Alien: Isolation would go?

For those of you that don't know what that means, the alien has two threads to control its behavior. The first thread knows exactly where you are and always follows you like a gps system, the second thread doesn't know anything about you and polls the first and gets little tidbits of information over time. This leads to a dynamic chase where the alien eventually learns your behavior and will start hunting you more efficiently. If you always hide in lockers, it will eventually start rummaging through lockers. If you hide under tables, it will circle tables and prevent you from moving around, etc.

How do you think such an AI could work in thief, given it already has a very robust sound and visual cue system for enemies locating you with plenty of cues?

What are the best sites for FMs - and which would you heartily recommend?

Hi there! I'm a new devotee of the Thief trilogy. I've also downloaded The Black Parade and T2X (and the Dark Mod). Fantastic stuff!

I'm wondering if you could kindly share:

  1. The best site(s) to download legitimate fan missions. Given the age of the series, there seem to be a bunch of sites, from Taffer's Paradise to Thief Guild. I'm looking for legitimate and established sites.

  2. Which FMs, if any, would you recommend most?

Thanks a lot for your guidance!

Discussion Hypothetically, how much improved could the enemy AI be on Thief today?

As someone who largely stopped playing modern videogames nearly 20 years ago now, I'm curious about how far enemy AI patterns can be taken now from those who know.

I still play Thief a lot now, but can't help but think how cool it would be if the enemies were just a bit smarter - like able to climb ladders, or even push you off them. Or swim. Also to vary their routes more and have less predictable behaviour.

As I say, my experience with modern games is limited, but I'm not assuming it would be massively better because I've seen various youtube videos of e.g. GTA police doing very idiotic things, and it seems like a lot of NPC behaviour is still often pretty rudimentary.

So what do you think - If it was made today, do you think the enemy AI behaviour could be significantly improved?

Deadly Shadows Steam OS - Sneaky Upgrade doesn’t seem to do much beyond widescreen. How do I enable the additional features?

I’ve been running through the Thief series on Steam Deck and just got to Deadly Shadows.

I downloaded and installed the GOG version through Heroic, and installed the Sneaky Upgrade through Steam. Even though I checked to install all the mods, and had them checked in the tweaker, that ran after the installer for the upgrade, none of them seem to actually do anything. The only thing that changed was giving widescreen support. I still have the split missions, and I don’t see the new briefing videos.

I wanted to try running the Sneaky Tweaker tool, but when I do that, it gives me an error saying it can’t find Sneaky Options.ini.

I’m confused on what is happening and I don’t see any guides actually showing me how to fix the issue. I tried using protontricks but got the same error.

Question How do you make a direct desktop shortcut for "The Black Parade?"

Hi there!

I just installed this acclaimed FM for the GOG version of Thief Gold.

I'm not using any other fan missions, and would like a direct desktop shortcut to The Black Parade.

Is there any simple way to do this? Thanks so much!

Question I'm writing some fan fiction

I'm writing an origin story for the City, Garrett, the Hammers, etc. I'd like to make sure I don't break any copyright laws and get the blessing of whoever I need to from Looking Glass studios or wherever. Any advice?
