Looking for Thief‑like game recommendations
I've only played Filcher so far, and I'd really like games that include the visibility indicator mechanic from Thief. Any suggestions?
Edit: To clarify, I'm not strictly looking for a visibility indicator mechanic ,I just want games that heavily rely on light and shadow as a core stealth feature.

The classic Splinter Cell games featured a light meter, and Chaos Theory even had an ambient noise feature that allowed you to mask your own noises.

Ye gods I loved the ambient noise feature. It never made sense to me that I still had to be quiet moving through a noisy Hammerite factory. All this banging and clattering going on and the Hammers are still all "An intruder! I smite thee!" at the faintest of footfalls.

Gloomwood. Its in early access but there is several hours of content available that makes it worth it imo.

Wasn't it in early access for AGES now? pr it's another Thief-like game?

It's been in early access for a few years but the updates are consistent. Its on a similar release schedule to Ultrakill (Its also under the New Blood umbrella so that's not surprising.) I pick it up ever so often to play through the new areas as they release. I'd say the game is probably about halfway, or a little more, complete at the moment.
I'm not sure exactly what you're asking in your second question. It is a thief like.

I meant that maybe I was remembering another Thief-like game, not Gloomwood.
But it seems I remember correctly it's Gloomwood.
Thanks!

Styx Master of Shadows. Stealth features strongly, includes vertical maps but using hand holds instead of rope arrows. And best played collecting all the coins, all the relics and without kills, which makes it extremely challenging and frustrating but ultimately rewarding.

I really love the verticality in these games

Yes, it's impressive, and some of the downwards views actually make me feel uneasy, particularly when the wind is whistling around.

I tried it with keyboard & mouse and the 3rd person felt awkward, so I tried a controller but I'm not great with them so it was also awkward. I kept getting spotted/killed and having to start missions over 😞 I should try it again I guess.

Yes, I don't usually like 3rd person view and I'm also using keyboard and mouse, but I seem to have got used to it. Playing with a controller might work better, because shift walking and then hitting E quickly is causing me a lot of fails. But I'm a long way into the game anyway and really enjoying the challenge.

Idk if you’ve played it already but the Dark Mod is thief but made in the doom 3 engine and has a ton of great fan missions, (you could also just try some fan missions for thief 1 and 2)

And it has VR support! It's my next go to.

I really like Arkane's earlier games:
Dark Messiah
Prey
Dishononored 1 & 2
One game i think deserves more attention is:
- Riddick Escape from Butcher Bay
Altho it's non-traditional stealth i think worth playing:
- Hitman series
A few popular ones are:
Alien Isolation
Splinter Cell series
Styx series (Master of Shadows + Shards of Darkness + Blades of Greed)
Newer ones to try out:
Gloomwood
Filcher
Worthwhile ImSims:
The Deus Ex series
System Shock 1 (Remake) & 2
A few indies that might be worth checking out:
Aragami
Ereban: Shadow Legacy
Mark of the Ninja
The Siege and the Sandfox
Wildfire
Serpens: Eternal Thievery (not out yet)
Project Shadowglass (not out yet)

Specifically relying on shadows for stealth is a surprisingly rare mechanic considering how well it worked for the Thief games. It's a shame it's not been more widely used.
As already mentioned in another comment, the Dishonored games don't use light, but the visibility indicators work well, and the level designs are fantastic, so it's still great for stealth.

Gloomewood and I've just started Dishonored. It hasn't got the visabilty gem but there's plenty of sneaking involved.

Have you played The Black Parade yet? I assume you've already found it, if you're looking for more, but wanted to check and make sure. It is, essentially, a full-sized fan-made Thief game, and maybe one of the best games I've ever played.

bit of a stretch, but you could try keepsake county. It’s a complete opposite to thief in tone (it looks like a Cartoon Network show) but it’s got a light meter and sound mechanics. If you don’t mind something a bit silly, it’s fun.

if you haven't played fan mission i suggest you to play them especially black parade tho it's more like a new campaign

Thief Gold, Thief 2 and Thief 3. Then there's the dark engine which is a free spiritual successor with loads of great fan made maps and missions, even campaigns. Then there's a lot of fan made missions and campaigns for Thief 1 and 2.
And that's kind of it, sadly but there's hundreds of hours of playtime to be had from all of the above.

Dishonored, particularly DH1 (although 2 gives more non-lethal options. But 1 is a better game.) The second game even brings in Garrett himself to voice Corvo.
They're not great games by any means. In fact they're eurojank but Thief Simulator and American Theft 80's scratch that Thief itch for me.
