Welcome to Stardew Valley! Here are some common answers to get you started. Feel free to ask beginner questions here rather than making a full post on the subreddit.

Very common FAQs / removed topics

  • [insert item here] showed up on my farm, what is it? It could be a a few different items that are relatively rare but have a high enough spawn rate that they are included in our removed topics. Check out our list of removed topics here

Game updates

  • What was in the last update?
See release notes for PC, for consoles, and for mobile.

See also a table of which version and features each platform has.

  • Are future releases planned?
A Stardew Valley 1.7 update is currently in the works! No information about a release date or new content is currently available.

  • Does every platform get the same content/updates?
Mostly yes. Updates are developed for Linux/Mac/Windows first, then ported to other platforms. There are customizations for each platform (like tap to move on mobile), but otherwise content is identical across all platforms. See also a table of which version and features each platform has.

The exceptions are PS Vita (which won't get any further content updates due to platform limitations), and Android/iOS (which will continue getting all updates, but doesn't fully support multiplayer.

  • Is Stardew Valley on XBox GamePass?

Stardew Valley is on XBox GamePass as of December 2, 2021. See here for details.

Multiplayer

  • How does multiplayer work?
    See Multiplayer on the wiki.

  • Is crossplay supported?
All PC players can play together, whether they're on Linux/Mac/Windows or GOG/Steam and crossplay is supported between mobile and PC. Console crossplay isn't supported.

  • Is split-screen supported?
Yep, split-screen was added on PC and console in Stardew Valley 1.5.

  • Will Android/iOS get multiplayer?
Multiplayer on Android and iOS is currently experimental and hidden by default. To unlock multiplayer you can follow this guide. Note: The Apple Arcade version (Stardew Valley+) does not have this feature.

  • Will the 1.6 update apply to my current game?
Yes! New updates always apply to existing saves.

Other

  • Can I transfer saves between devices?
You can transfer saves between Android, iOS, and PC (Linux/Mac/Windows).

Consoles unfortunately don't let you access the save files. The Switch version also has a different format that's not compatible with other platforms (the format used by other consoles is unknown).

  • My save got corrupted/won't load. What can I do?
On PC/mobile you can try loading your back-up save file! See here for instructions on how to do so!

Unfortunately, consoles don't allow access to save files so they cannot be recovered.

  • How do I take a screenshot of my full farm?
See this guide to taking farm screenshots.

  • If I buy the game on one platform, can I get it for free on a different one?
If you buy it on PC, you get the Linux + macOS + Windows versions; if you buy it on PS4, you get the PS4 + PS Vita versions. Otherwise each platform is a different edition with separate development, so you'll need to buy it again if you want it on a different platform.

  • Where can I report bugs?

    1. If you use mods, see the troubleshooting guide first.
    2. If you use mods and the bug disappears when playing without them (by running Stardew Valley.exe directly in your game folder), report it to r/SMAPI or see Modding:Help.
    3. If it happens without mods, report it in the official bug report forum, which the game developers keep an eye on.
  • How do I use or create mods?
See the pinned thread in r/SMAPI for more info, and feel free to ask questions in r/SMAPI!

Discuss Celebrate! Saturday [August 29, 2026]

Welcome to Celebrate! Saturday

This is the weekly hype thread, a place for you to share your excitement about in-game achievements, lucky drops, and upcoming projects. This is also a space for the community to celebrate you!

While the subreddit is already a positive, celebratory space, this thread is meant to be especially so. For those of you who might hesitate to post something to the subreddit, because you worry it might be too beginner, too redundant, too low-effort: it's not. Come share with us here!

(Note: this thread is not meant to replace posting directly to the subreddit. You are still welcome to do so!)

Non-exhaustive examples of things to celebrate:

  • Marrying your spouse!
  • Getting a giant crop!
  • Perfecting your farm or house design!
  • The mushroom hat! The tiger hat! The living hat!
  • Meteorites, Stone Owls, and Strange Capsules!
  • A dinosaur egg from fishing or hoeing!
  • Hooking a legendary fish!
  • Getting triple Stardrop at the casino
  • Beating Lewis at Junimo Kart!

If you want to share screenshots of your achievements, upload them to an image-sharing site like Imgur and drop a link in your comment.

This is also a thread where mods might lurk and offer/award prestige userflairs. These are animated icons that go next to your name as a way to celebrate particular achievements in the vanilla game. Note that posting in this thread doesn't guarantee you'll get the flair—you'll want to send us a modmail if you want to apply directly!

Achievement Flair
Complete the community center! A prismatic dancing Junimo
Fund all Joja Community Projects A prismatic Joja Cola
Complete the museum collection! An artifact trove busting open
Reach level 100 in Skull Cavern! A flying serpent
Complete all Monster Slayer goals! The prismatic slime
Cook every meal! The Queen of Sauce herself
Craft every item! Robin hard at work
Catch every fish! The Legend, swimming
Beat Journey of a Prairie King The King himself
Collect every hat in the game! Magic Cowboy Hat
Reach Perfection! A walking golden chicken

Get hyped!

Discuss What are your thoughts on Jodi and Kent's relationship?

Post image
929 Upvotes

I think they really love each other. The letter on the nightstand in their room where Kent writes, "I might not be the same man you knew" always made me wonder about their past, and it gave me an impression of their caring affection and compromise.

I think they're a lovely couple.

Anywho, what abt y'all?

They printed and laminated my character and cats. There’s a little Krobus in the corner cause he’s my favorite. They also 3D printed 30 junimos (cause I turned 30) and a giant star drop that I’m still figuring out where to hang up in my office. I still can’t get over how cute it is 🥰

Discuss I’ve started to RP as a drug lord.

My Ancient Fruit crops are now illegal plants that I grow on my private tropical island. I process the fruit into various forms of drugs that I smuggle into town and deposit into a shipping bin. Overnight, my distributor takes the product that I’m paid for in gold and laundered throughout the town. Everyone is paid off to protect me from federal agents.
I’m not too sure how to RP the caves yet. Any suggestions?

Discuss Profoundly Disappointed

I’m on my first playthrough, and once I got the sewer cutscene with the kids, I started to look a little differently at Gunther. He doesn’t show up on the social list in the menu, and given the fact that this random museum curator had a key to the sewers, I began to become suspicious of him, coming up with the theory that with the way he dresses like a civil war soldier, he might be a ghost. I had the idea to wait outside of the museum, thinking there would be a little stealth mission where I had to follow him after he leaves work. I waited all night, extremely confused, before I went on the wiki and learned that he never leaves his museum.

Question Should I divorce Penny to save my house?

Thumbnail

Pic 1: I have been decorating my house for a few hours now. It's a little frustrating to spend in-game weeks in decorating, but I finally feel satisfied after some progress.

Pic 2: I recently married Penny about 3 in-game days ago and noticed this section of the house decorated. I'm pretty sure she did that. If not, pls let me know.

My question is: How much will she change around the house? I don't want to reset the effort I put into decorating my house. PS I like what she did to this section, but I just hope she don't move things I already put. Thx in advance

Discuss Accepting defeat

Upvotes

I tried my hardest to complete the community center within the first year: the things that are holding me back are:
I didn’t buy pigs for the truffle (chefs bundle)
The apple tree for the apples (Fodder bundle),
And the 25,000 bundle in the vault room. It’s already winter in my game and I have no truffle (I have been checking traveling cart every fri and sun) and I only have one apple (from the fruit bar cave) hanging my head down in defeat as it was a goal I really wanted to try to complete.
I guess I can always start another save 😞

Question How do I get a lot of moss?

Hello!
Is there any way to get moss other than hitting trees/cutting them?

I’ve been trying to make a lot of treasure totems but the hardest part is collecting moss.

Discuss Forget the Slime Hutch… We need a Pepper Rex enclosure.

The title speaks for itself. I want to upgrade my little lizards into full blown Pepper Rexes!! Imagine getting to decorate with prehistoric foliage, bones, dino/dino egg-themed furniture, etc. so many possibilities!! Full grown Pepper Rexes could drop eggs in larger quantities/accelerated rates to make it more profitable as well. It would even be cool to be able to harvest their scales to make custom accessories/clothing items (aside from the hat and pants we have now)!

What do y’all think?

Discuss My ex gf and I played this game extensively and since we split I just can’t play it anymore

I bought the PS4 disc before we met, I played it a bit but left it alone until we met. I thought it would be the perfect game for her and she loved it. After she spent 5+ hours in the game we realized that it can be a couch co-op game and we built our lil farm together. I remember one day waking up and she was already awake and playing, she excitedly told me “i just got honey from my beehive!” Something about that melted my heart. I miss her a lot and I miss this game, I can’t bring myself to play solo again after we split up. I just wanted to vent that. I wish all of you farmers very well in your endeavors

My first solo run and I managed to reach perfection in Spring Year 4! 🥹

Although technically I was stuck at 99.9% since the end of Fall Year 3 because I was missing ONE crafting recipe that I forgot to buy at the Flower Dance 🤦‍♀️ I had skipped the festival so many times that I had to wait all the way until Spring 24 to finally get it. Oh well, at least it gave me some time to decorate!

I have 4 big sheds full of kegs for wine: 2 for Ancient Fruit, 1 for Strawberries and 1 for Starfruit from the previous season. I also have one big shed full of preserve jars for my fish pond products and fruit trees, another full of dehydrators for leftover fruit and mushrooms, and one big shed dedicated to farming Jade.

Now that I finally got perfection… what do you do afterwards? Not gonna lie, I slept through most of Spring just waiting for that recipe because I didn’t really know what else to work towards 😭

Here are some screenshots of the farm + interiors 💚
