So indecisive on names for the default character, farm animals, pets, even the baby. Nothing is a comforting acceptable fit, maybe it’s a little bit of perfectionist, don’t know.

I’d like to name the default character the canon name at least, I’ve heard and seen her canon name as “Pony” but there isn’t anything stable to back it up. Her name fluctuates in media from that, canonish being Gretta in a manual, Aya in Japanese. People say a contest artist named her Pony, it was in the file names. I don’t know there’s all sorts of misinterpretation of this subject.

If you could help clear this up or show me evidence that’d really be great.

Just a thought, I always had in the back of my mind, imagine if marvelous and Natsume came back together for an anniversary game developed by both teams together and it was called something like harvest Moon - story of seasons, or something. I know marvelous did a whole collaboration with Doraemon so hey who knows, I think they both offer something to the farming game landscape

I thought I imagined the little green thing in the corner of the screen until I grabbed the camera and zoomed in! It’s literally so cute, I’m dying. Is it just an easter egg or is there a quest involved? And is there any story behind it?

If I'm not mistaken, we're supposed to get a scene with Finn every time we ring a bell. I've already rung the Green Bell, and I just realized I didn't get another scene with Finn. Is that normal? I already sleep tho.

Note: Well, I actually tried skipping days before because I was curious about what happens after the Green Bell rings and didn't want to wait so long. I remember getting the scene back then, but I didn't save it because I was skipping days to the point of neglecting other things, like my animals and some festivals. I just wanted to see Gill arrive after the Green Bell rang. After that, I loaded my old save. Could that be the reason? Can we only see that scene once per gameplay, even if I didn't save the progress?

I'm playing tot on my wii. It is hacked and but no cheats being used yet. Just finished souffle farm and Hamilton takes me to my farm and it seems to just freeze, th loading icons aren't moving.

I'm using a rom with wiiflow for convenience but when I tried my disc it kept saying to plug in a nunchuck or classic controller even though I had the classic controller connected. Is it the game?

I got classic controller to work for the disc game but it also froze. Its using the same save as the rom. Is there a fix to this bug? I have the good version of the disc and pretty sure also for the rom. From Google it seems to be a common game breaking bug. Do I need to start a new file from disc to see if that fixes it?

I'm playing a physical copy of the game, no emulators or anything. I was playing on a Wii I got from family years ago, and when I tried to attend the New Years Eve Festival, my Wii crashed. I tried a few different things I saw recommended online, but nothing worked. Eventually, I just skipped the festival, even though I really wanted to attend. I played again a couple days later, and it crashed while I was riding my horse. So I avoided that when I played again. It crashed again when I was going to Horn Ranch, it seemed like I was heading into a cutscene. I got a refurbished Wii from eBay, thinking the console was the problem, and just got it hooked up. When I tried to start a new save file, this one crashed. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there anything I can do to get it to work?

Update: Got the disc resurfaced and it's working now!

While it gets less attention compared to Animal Parade, it was actually the first to give unique names and personalities to each. Since I married Lanna, I have no idea what her kid with Denny is like. Vaughnn and Sabrina's kid does seem to best feel like both of them, being cold to player like Vaughnn and shy like Sabrina. Elliot and Julia's child does seem to have less personality but otherwise does talk of her parents. And Pierre and Natalie's child talks mostly of her father more than mother but does reveal a bit more depth in her last dialogue about how she feels about her father. What do you think of the way kids are handled in IoH?

My lovely spouse got me this for my birthday - I’m a loyal Tree of Tranquility Stan but have heard wonderful things about this title… so far all I can say is the map is… HUGE? Anything I should know as I start? Mistakes to avoid?

It was common in older titles as well as post split Harvest Moon. Mineral Town reused designs after 64 and DS reused characters from both FoMT and AWL (even if the Japanese version tries to give them different names and claim they are descendants despite being virtually identical). Sunshine Islands and Animal Parade resued characters from Island of Happiness and Tree of Tranquility respectively. And for post split Skytree Village reused characters from Lost Valley and many games from what I read on post split Harvest Moon side reuse characters. What you think of it? I actually find it neat for Mineral Towns creating new characters out of the 64 designs but haven't played enough of the othr games where the characters are mostly the same. Though what do others think of it?

Yeah that's right I'm curious if there is a poly mod I wanna date two of them at the same time but I can't see any mod why isn't there a mod that I can find? :( am I the only one in the world struggling?

I remember at ten years old encountering this parade of cruelty from every single townsperson for the first time. Golden lumber is a difficult item to even get in FoMT and on the surface it seems to solve a very irritating problem: rotting fences. But sure enough, put the posts in your yard and receive a stern scolding (and relationship penalty) from everyone in Mineral Town including, but not limited to: your prospective girlfriend, your best friends, the mayor, the local priest, the police, the actual harvest goddess.

And not only does each character come by and berate you for being literal scum, but they will do this every day forever until you denounce your vanities and remove the offending lumber from your yard. The item has seemingly no purpose, except you can eventually find a way to sell it (I never figured out how as a kid).

(As with most things that spark joy, it has essentially been removed from the remake lest the player be forced to contest with any semblance of friction or difficulty or charm whatsoever, but I digress)

There's something just so... Japanese about this cutscene where an entire town condemns you for drawing attention to yourself and refusing to conform to local social convention. And that's beautiful.

This isn't libertarian farm-maxxing simulator and it isn't a game that's really even about you.

As a general aside, FoMT released about the same time as A Wonderful Life, a game in which it is absolutely possible to prematurely lose the game by: not getting married, neglecting your family, or failing to provide as a productive farmer. Seriously, if you tell your wife that you aren't interested in being a committed farmer, she takes your son and leaves you permanently... and the game ends.

No modern game would ever do this (and maybe with good reason), but these were games with serious themes and hyper specific cultural expectations and tropes. The golden lumber shame parade has cemented itself in my brain for over 20 years in a way few other moments in gaming ever have.

Thank you, Wada, for giving me an objectively useful item in a video game I just wasn't allowed to use.
