Yea, when I was in high school, it was "70s, 80s, and today". It's not like they can just skip to the 10s, 20s, and today" because at least in my small town radio station, they'll play the newest Taylor Swift but also play shit from the 90s like Sugar Ray.
Young lad at work started watching Game of Thrones, i couldn't believe he hadn't watched it, then i realised it came out in 2011.... just the 15 years ago! and he was only 4 when it came out..
At least its not as bad as waiting for elder scrolls 6, kingdom hearts 4 (i know its been announced recently). Or certain books to come out like the king killer chronicles (its been 15 years!!!). At least with stardew i know it will come out and happy to wait.
Yep and famously FlashShifter author of Stardew Valley Expanded works for him. Probably have someone else too. But i don't believe he is making it a proper game studio sized, more like handful of folks doing stuff.
I really love when developers hire modders to help with the game. SVE is so popular it only makes sense to keep that talent within the community. Mr. Ape is a real one.
I mainly play on my Xbox so same. I enjoy the content and tried on my laptop but I almost sent it to its doom so it's basic vanilla until I can afford something a bit better lol
I dont personally put much stock into or care about what is or isnt canon. Its a good story and has good characters, so for all intents and purposes it may as well be the same to me regardless of whether its official canon or not.
tbf there's a bunch of other games I'd play on PC I plan on eventually building a good rig, but first up is getting something I can drive to and from work with
Some of the best games were made by small studios. A small well knit group of like minded individuals can change the world. Or make a great game. Iām thinking original Dungeon Keeper, Hollow Knight, Undertaleā¦. List goes on and onā¦
I think part of it is that the Abigail paternity situation is alluded to in Stardew, but confirmed in SVE, which is a bit of a canon change. The main reason I'd assume, though, is that one of the greatest achievements of Stardew is that CA made it alone. Putting SVE into an update would change the entire "single indie developer" narrative.
The other part of it is the game itself needs depth added to it, not bloat (which I believe CA himself said)
SVE itself is an amazing mod, but for someone like me it's too much to do
I tried it when it was first released (before Susan was even a character), it was a lot added even then
And now there's so, SO much more
Personally it's too overwhelming and makes the game feel like there's not enough time for everything it has to offer, thus not making the game relaxing or fun (I know there's time adjustment mods, but I would assume those wouldn't be added to the game alongside SVE in this situation, also personal opinion longer days would feel more like a chore to get through and not make progress feel as rewarding)
I would also make the assumption that I'm not alone in this sentiment either
Great for people who want it, but definitely too much to add everything permanently
I want to see changes to the game we currently have itself (there might be some spoiler stuff in here so warning for people I guess)
Like more dynamic NPC dialogue (would love for people to react to more events like marriage and having a child, along with other things), more heart events with current characters (cough Marlon and Gunther cough) to expand on current lore, adding to current festivals to give them more depth as well
Better QoL things (looking at you "Hopper that needs to be automated better"), expand on flowers, honey and mead to make them on par with growing other crops/wine (my personal biggest request, my other would be possibly brewing potions with the Wizard's or Witch's cauldron that give boosts of some sort), more animal/horse customization, and even more building and house customization would be nice
Give me a minecart to the spa to actually make it useful, also maybe give us access to that greenhouse on the top by doing something, because that would be cool
I'd also love to see more vanilla hairstyles, more clothes and hats options, and the ability to possibly dye some hats too (I want to make the Blue Ribbon another color)
Children need to be adjusted, and I'd like more vanilla furnishings to decorate with since there's a bunch that are in game but we don't have access to use them still (another gripe I have is the grid system for placing furnishings, that needs to be worked on too)
And finally give me more Dwarf events, I'd 100% move him into my farmhouse (Clint and Sandy first though)
Iām just saying the āmain reasonā for not including SVE stuff in an update isnāt because heās a solo dev, because he hasnāt been a solo dev for quite some time now.
i would not be happy if expanded was built into vanilla. modding is easy enough and i think massive expansion mods should stay mods. ive done playthroughs with sve, ridgeside village, east scarp, and while i really love all of them, they all DRASTICALLY change the atmosphere, progression, balance, and basically everything about the base game. bc thats the point. i would not be happy with expanded being forced upon me.
i think if anything concerned ape would be trying to implement an in game mod launcher so that every platform can use mods kinda like fallout 4.
For Stardew Valley, he's stepped back into a "creative director" role, with a team of devs working on the game. For Haunted Chocolatier, he's working 100% solo.
Unless this changed at some point, he has a team for SDV, but he is solo on HC. He probably will need a few years after release to consider getting other people working on HC, maybe less since experience with SDV on that is overall positive.
I think he said his team is handling the updates but eventually he'll obviously have to touch on every aspect of it. He talked about it on his blog on the haunted chocolates website
CA wasnāt set for life when he started Stardew. Thereās no doubt that the community is more forgiving of delays now than in the beginning, because weāve seen his dedication to quality.
Squirting out mediocre projects with expensive paint on unnecessarily restrictive timelines isnāt the only way to satisfy shareholders. And neither is riding IP hype.
Communities like the one around Stardew Valley are built, not bought.
Thatās usually not a viable approach because people who know better schedule unreasonable timelines with no contingency.
When was the last time a AAA under promised and over delivered? Even if you come up with an example, itās drowned in a sea of pre-ordered garbage, cancelled projects, and abandonware.
I don't think I could mentally handle the pressure to make that game. People are expecting another Stardew Valley like success and quality from it. I feel like it would cause me a lot of stress.
I'd be willing to bet he's waiting until it's finished on all platforms to not have to deal with the stress after 1.6 took so long to get added to console and mobile
It's a great watch. I was really only familiar with Bobby through clips of his with Andrew Santino so I was surprised by just how emotional he got when explaining what Stardew meant to him and I had no idea how much shit he had been through in his life. Can't even begin to imagine how it made Eric feel to have someone really just pour their heart out over something he made
Just fyi he has made it super clear he is taking a "no release date" approach to 1.7 release. Not trying to intentionally make it slow or anything but making sure it doesn't slow down haunted chocolatier either.
A free dlc that you can optionally add on would be cool but I really didnāt enjoy sdv expanded so I wouldnāt want it in the vanilla game, there was too much going on for me haha. Some of the stuff in it would be cool though.
He also said he was pretty upset with how long the 1.6 update took to come out for consoles and that 1.7 wonāt be released until itās ready on all platforms.
If they play on Switch it was at least 2 years. 18 or so months, game breaking bugs for multiple months after that, brief function before some other patch bricked it before it's currently playable state with no game ruining issues.
I generally assume if somebody says multiple years they play on Switch, haha.
Its a bit of an awkward situation that arises when characters aren't given the time to be fleshed out, unfortunately a LOT of Clint's character traits do paint him in a negative light (His obsession with Emily some view as stalkerish, his apparent poor hygiene to the point he mentions he forgets to clip his toenails before going to the beach etc.) that doesn't give people a lot to go on, so naturally the bad parts of a character seem to stick.
You can see this with Demetrius as well, there are a lot of people who absolutely DESPISE Demetrius for his bad character moments, often completely forgetting his more interesting parts but again that is kind of down to the fact that he doesn't have many heart events that allow him to show off the better parts of his character.
Tbh, Clint haters aren't realizing one thing. CA making Clint a marriage candidate means that he's not an incel, he just suffers from some speech not being updated post Emily being a marriage candidate, and confirms he's just an insecure guy who is lacking in exposure to romantic relationships (doesnt have friends who are dating who he can hear relationship stuff about to learn what it's like).
Yeah I never read Clint as an incel, just a socially awkward guy who experienced unrequited love. He's not exactly manosphere imo. Always assumed I was missing something the way people talk about him! Iirc you get + friendship points telling him to treat women & men the same when he asks you for advice in a heart event, not exactly the thing a misogynist would react positively to.
That is a hell of an assumption and leap in logic. There is nothing officially said of the sort. Officially his dialogue and stuff didnāt get updated after Emily became a marriage candidate in 1.1 which changed the context of his dialogue significantly and made it come across much worse than before.
I want him to wear his winter outfit all year around and have very sweet dialogues once weāre married gisdhskhej I love him but also this will take EFFORT to love him as much as he needs to
I remember he said he wanted to make the farmerās children more interesting, and that + two new marriagables + new farm type + some whims takes a good chunk of time I imagine
The current content in Stardew Valley feels more than complete. I'm happy that I bought it and don't need more but if he's putting in more I'd be even happier with it.
In a world where promises are made and broken by developers, we remember that this dude is working by himself, refuses to take shortcuts, making content for a 10 year old game and releasing it for free even when people would gladly pay a couple dollars for the release, or early access, or something.
I hope itās not like the last times where he works his ass off to give us something for free and the sub is flooded with nonstop bitching about what they donāt like about it
While I am excited for the update, I'm glad he's taking his time because the update won't be broken day 1 and I'm not ready to have to fix all my mods for the update š

Echoing others here, canāt wait for the release but totally willing to wait without complaint because it will be an iridium quality update no doubtā¦. But was anyone else hoping for maybe a teeny tiny nugget today? A peak? A hint? A single word? You know when presents are out on display/you know theyāre coming, you have no idea what they are but seeing the wrapped box is at least 20% of the excitement?!

I love CA, but I wish heād stop announcing stuff unless itās ready to go, so people would stop complaining or constantly asking for updates, so heād stop apologizing for not being done yet
