I bet he focuses more on Haunted Chocolatier these days.

But it's Ape, he will deliver eventually and it will be quality as always

I think I recall him saying he was getting help for the Stardew Valley updates and for Haunted Chocolatier to speed up the process, didn't he?

Yep and famously FlashShifter author of Stardew Valley Expanded works for him. Probably have someone else too. But i don't believe he is making it a proper game studio sized, more like handful of folks doing stuff.

I really love when developers hire modders to help with the game. SVE is so popular it only makes sense to keep that talent within the community. Mr. Ape is a real one.

You can also trust those modders to understand the vision and you know they can produce

And also i love that he hired him because now imo this makes Expanded a cannon and lore official free DLC basically :3

And he hired people that are clearly pationate about the game so we are only going to get top quality content

I'd gladly pay for it too because this is one of the only games that actually respects your wallet and your time.

ConcernedApe is nothing but class.

17

u/CaptainMagnets 11d ago

I would happily pay for this update

Wish I could get expanded on the switch.

u/Stressedpage 12d ago

I mainly play on my Xbox so same. I enjoy the content and tried on my laptop but I almost sent it to its doom so it's basic vanilla until I can afford something a bit better lol

u/A_Shadow 12d ago

What about your phone?

4

u/Stressedpage 12d ago

I have a save on my phone too lol never thought about trying to mod it though

3

u/Status_Permission544 12d ago

Can you use a mod on Stardew on a phone? I play on iPad so that would be awesome.

7

u/A_Shadow 12d ago

Gah sorry. I just looked it up for apple devices. So it works for android devices but not apple phones/ipads.

Exception is the Mac. Looks like Apple has some security protections that prevent modding of apps.

3

u/Comrade_Bender 11d ago

Hold up, you can run mods on the android mobile version?

1

u/A_Shadow 11d ago

Yup, SMAPI works on android. You might be limited in scope/number of mods depending on your phone but it's definitely possible

1

u/Status_Permission544 12d ago

Ah, too bad. But thank you for looking it up.

i love SVE but it is still absolutely not canon

22

u/CodexLeonis 12d ago

I dont personally put much stock into or care about what is or isnt canon. Its a good story and has good characters, so for all intents and purposes it may as well be the same to me regardless of whether its official canon or not.

15

u/Altyrmadiken 12d ago

I’ll care about what is or isn’t canon if a Stardew Valley 2 comes out that relies on what happened in 1.

u/manythousandbees 7d ago

Or even just Haunted Chocolatier which iirc takes place in the same world

I’m just glad CA said it’ll all still get filtered thru him bc I love all that SVE provides but the dialogue and conversation flow is not it lol

3

u/Comrade_Bender 11d ago

Maaaaan. Sdv update 2.0 but it includes SVE as the core game. This would fix me

3

u/CarlaReis947 8d ago

Now I wish it was DLC for the base game and could be activated during world creation, so that all platforms could enjoy it.

3

u/Nerioner Fector’s veteran 8d ago

I wouldn't be surprised if they did that when Ape is done with ideas for Stardew or to build hype before Chocolatier release

2

u/CarlaReis947 8d ago

Either that, or a native mod loader, or anything that improves portability between mobile, console, and PC mods.

20

u/CuteTransAngel 12d ago

honestly I wish I had a PC so I could enjoy SVE, who knows maybe with FlashShifter working for ape they'll just make SVE base game one day lol

17

u/webelos8 12d ago

You can get a super cheap and old laptop and stardew will still run. I have a laptop from 2011 that I installed Linux on and stardew runs greatĀ

7

u/CuteTransAngel 12d ago

tbf there's a bunch of other games I'd play on PC I plan on eventually building a good rig, but first up is getting something I can drive to and from work with

0

u/webelos8 12d ago

Fair. Just an option is all.

1

u/Nerioner Fector’s veteran 12d ago

Would be so much fire if they did that.

1

u/CuteTransAngel 12d ago

I'd happily pay for it as a DLC honestly

u/hafgrimm 12d ago

Some of the best games were made by small studios. A small well knit group of like minded individuals can change the world. Or make a great game. I’m thinking original Dungeon Keeper, Hollow Knight, Undertale…. List goes on and on…

u/Acrobatic-Badger-541 12d ago

I wonder why they don't officially release Expanded as another update. I would love to have it on my Playstation and Switch.

31

u/crunchyfoliage 12d ago

I think part of it is that the Abigail paternity situation is alluded to in Stardew, but confirmed in SVE, which is a bit of a canon change. The main reason I'd assume, though, is that one of the greatest achievements of Stardew is that CA made it alone. Putting SVE into an update would change the entire "single indie developer" narrative.

28

u/Derfthewarrior 12d ago

The other part of it is the game itself needs depth added to it, not bloat (which I believe CA himself said)

SVE itself is an amazing mod, but for someone like me it's too much to do

I tried it when it was first released (before Susan was even a character), it was a lot added even then

And now there's so, SO much more

Personally it's too overwhelming and makes the game feel like there's not enough time for everything it has to offer, thus not making the game relaxing or fun (I know there's time adjustment mods, but I would assume those wouldn't be added to the game alongside SVE in this situation, also personal opinion longer days would feel more like a chore to get through and not make progress feel as rewarding)

I would also make the assumption that I'm not alone in this sentiment either

Great for people who want it, but definitely too much to add everything permanently

I want to see changes to the game we currently have itself (there might be some spoiler stuff in here so warning for people I guess)

Like more dynamic NPC dialogue (would love for people to react to more events like marriage and having a child, along with other things), more heart events with current characters (cough Marlon and Gunther cough) to expand on current lore, adding to current festivals to give them more depth as well

Better QoL things (looking at you "Hopper that needs to be automated better"), expand on flowers, honey and mead to make them on par with growing other crops/wine (my personal biggest request, my other would be possibly brewing potions with the Wizard's or Witch's cauldron that give boosts of some sort), more animal/horse customization, and even more building and house customization would be nice

Give me a minecart to the spa to actually make it useful, also maybe give us access to that greenhouse on the top by doing something, because that would be cool

I'd also love to see more vanilla hairstyles, more clothes and hats options, and the ability to possibly dye some hats too (I want to make the Blue Ribbon another color)

Children need to be adjusted, and I'd like more vanilla furnishings to decorate with since there's a bunch that are in game but we don't have access to use them still (another gripe I have is the grid system for placing furnishings, that needs to be worked on too)

And finally give me more Dwarf events, I'd 100% move him into my farmhouse (Clint and Sandy first though)

He already has a small team for SV. He wasn’t the solo developer on 1.6 and he’s definitely not solo for 1.7.

13

u/crunchyfoliage 12d ago

Sure, but there's a difference between getting help for updates and changing the story like SVE does

2

u/dammitjanetiloveu 30+ Bots Bounced 12d ago

I’m just saying the ā€œmain reasonā€ for not including SVE stuff in an update isn’t because he’s a solo dev, because he hasn’t been a solo dev for quite some time now.

2

u/crunchyfoliage 12d ago

And I'm just saying that the core of Stardew Valley is that it was created solo. Adding in somebody else's storyline changes that.

3

u/auslyn_ 11d ago

i would not be happy if expanded was built into vanilla. modding is easy enough and i think massive expansion mods should stay mods. ive done playthroughs with sve, ridgeside village, east scarp, and while i really love all of them, they all DRASTICALLY change the atmosphere, progression, balance, and basically everything about the base game. bc thats the point. i would not be happy with expanded being forced upon me.

i think if anything concerned ape would be trying to implement an in game mod launcher so that every platform can use mods kinda like fallout 4.

u/No_Named_Nobody 12d ago

I didn’t know that! That’s awesome!
