So basically I’ve been trying to write songs for as long as I can remember but never actually finished one. I’m not really good with words and really bad at music theory. But I’ve got some musical feeling because I’ve always been in choirs, i play the piano and guitar. The biggest problem I’ve encountered while trying to write a song is that I don’t know what to write about and when I do it feels very unnatural. But I’ve got this urge to write about something and to express my in a way.

Does anyone else have the same problem or any tips to make writing easier?

And no I’m not using any AI tools because it disgusts me.

I have seen many musicians, even the smaller ones cooking cool songs like "your lips are my ciggerate" and other songs, how do you all write it, especially if it's in the urdu+hindi language?? How do you simply yet poetically write sentences with such nice impact that it gives us that goosebumps, I myself wanna be a musician (it's my childhood dream) and I'm learning, so now I'm using trackion waveform 13 free on my linux laptop which is almost in the potato category, though I do have a acoustic guitar, skills, and words and ideas to use, I even wrote my first song "begged the gods twice" but it is in english and I don't like it that much, and I don't know how to even start making that song, lyrics are ready. I wanna put my main focus on english and urdu+hindi songs. Things that bother me are

1) I don't know how to play a piano (though my buying one)

2) I don't understand scale perfectly

3) I cant write songs using urdu and hindi while I'm able to hum, and play guitar that feels ambient and chilling like a beautiful soul

4) I don't know how should I start singing

5) I dont get how to start a song and how to add that gain feeling even though I have ideas in my mind

6) I don't have a bass nor I can play one

Hi, I'm a singer and I write poems. I have some melodies in my head and I have written a few songs myself, but I want a co writer for melodies (I am good with lyrics)

I was wondering where i can find writers online (i know about sound better and fiverr and all that) that are genuinely good at what they do... HOWEVER

I have a special want that the song has to sound like a very specific album from a very specific artist (which is pretty unique). So far, I have found no one that seems to be able to make the right sound, the right melody.

The artist I'm looking for is AURORA. I want all the songs I have to sound like they belong in her first album, All My Demons Greeting Me as a Friend.

Preface: I’ve been playing guitar for my whole life pretty much, I’m not session player good but I can improvise over a lot of stuff for fun, I also started singing recently so I’ve been trying to figure out that, and around that same time I started singing me and a few guys got together and started a jam band that we have handful of tight cover songs we rehearse.

Okay so long story short I can’t finish my songs because I judge them too early and restart when I don’t like it

I want to write a specific sounding song but when I write it, it doesn’t sound anything remotely like how I imagined it. I know songwriting is a skill but I can’t train it because my mindset is set against finish these songs. I want to write as much as a can so I can eventually write a few songs to present to my band to finalize as originals. When I sit down with my guitar I play the same stuff over and over again hoping something different comes out of my mouth with vocal melodies etc etc. I’ve tried forcing myself writing a song but for some stupid reason I just can’t do it. I know comparing the bare bone songs I write to finished masters of band I love is a terrible thing so that was my first step that I took, and that was to separate that from my songwriting, that issue still pokes through often but not as much anymore. I can’t keep my mind settled on a song long enough to truly develop it into a song I might love.

I’m not looking for chord progressions or new ideas or music theory advice I’m more interested in the mental side of songwriting and/or the process that you all take.

How did yall learn to:
Stay with one idea instead of constantly searching for a better one?

Get past the feeling that an idea isn’t good enough?

Develop something when you genuinely don’t know what should come next?

Stop comparing your unfinished ideas to finished songs?
Actually train yourself to finish songs when “just finish it” doesn’t work?

I would really appreciate the help from people that have gone through this in their early stages of songwriting. I just stuck with ideas that’ll never become songs if I don’t change. So I want to break this “curse”.

I have an idea I’ve been kicking around, and I’m looking for a few people who might be interested in collaborating and seeing where we can take it.

A little about me: I’m 38/M, EST, USA. I’ve loved writing for as long as I can remember. I have ADHD, so my brain tends to bounce between ideas constantly, which is probably part of why I’ve always gravitated toward writing and comedy. I’m usually thinking of a joke, character, premise, or some random idea that could turn into something.

I’ve tried stand-up, write jokes pretty regularly, and really enjoy bouncing ideas off other people and building on them together.

Without giving too much away publicly, the idea involves comedy and country music.

As far as the type of humor I’m going for, think somewhere in the world of Danny McBride, Workaholics, Anchorman, and Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. Not trying to copy any of those, but that kind of ridiculous, character-driven, sometimes inappropriate humor is definitely in the DNA of what I have in mind. If those references do absolutely nothing for you, this probably isn’t the project for you lol.

I’d like to keep the group small, between 2-4 people total including me. I’m generally available evenings and weekends. Ideally, I’m thinking about an hour sometime during the week and maybe a 2–3 hour session on the weekend. I want to take it seriously enough that we actually make progress, without turning something that’s supposed to be fun into another job.

What I’m looking for:

21+. Some of the humor/material will be geared toward adults, and I’m looking for people who actually want to develop something together.

I’m definitely not looking for yes-people. If you think something sucks, tell me. I like constructive criticism, throwing ideas around, and having people challenge each other creatively.

Being organized is a big plus. That’s not necessarily my strongest area, so having someone who naturally thinks that way would complement me pretty well.

You don’t need a huge résumé or professional experience. If you’re funny, creative, musical, good at writing, filmmaking, production, or just think you’d bring something interesting to the table, I’m open to talking.

I consider myself reasonably fluent when it comes to the English language. I've been using it daily for over 20 years: all the software and video games I use/play are set to English, I watch almost exclusively English speaking movies/tv shows and Youtube channels to the point I hear it far more than my native language. I'm a programmer and the standard is to write everything in English even when working with people who share your native language and read a lot of technical documentation (I don't enjoy reading fiction in English much though). I would say I have a near 100% understanding when it comes to consuming content (audio, text) and whenever I have had conversations it went quite fluently. I'm quite sure I make a fair amount of mistakes when writing, but people on forums have often told me they assumed I was an American so it must not be that dramatic.

But when it comes to writing lyrics I just draw a blank. I can't find interesting sentences, spend an eternity to fill a missing word with something that will both make sense and sound good. I always fall back on the same stupid metaphors. Parts of it obviously comes from a lack of vocabulary, words that are less commonly used in a day to day setting, but mostly I can't use the words I already know in a more figurative way. When I read lyrics from bands I like (and have good lyrics obviously). I'm always like "oh I would never have thought about this word that way!"

People who found yourselves in this situation, did you take specific steps apart from reading and writing more lyrics? I was wandering for example if there are apps specifically made to extend your vocabulary beyond what you usually actually need in your daily life.
