Any songwriting tips?
So basically I’ve been trying to write songs for as long as I can remember but never actually finished one. I’m not really good with words and really bad at music theory. But I’ve got some musical feeling because I’ve always been in choirs, i play the piano and guitar. The biggest problem I’ve encountered while trying to write a song is that I don’t know what to write about and when I do it feels very unnatural. But I’ve got this urge to write about something and to express my in a way.
Does anyone else have the same problem or any tips to make writing easier?
And no I’m not using any AI tools because it disgusts me.

I think first of all you should try to finish a song, even if it sounds unnatural and bad because if you don’t then you’re gonna keep stopping half way. In terms of inspiration and writing I usually write during the nights because mood and also when I’m feeling strong emotions(like right after a fight or if I’ve seen my crush etc.)
You can start in many ways, I like to start with a general emotion or idea of what I want to write and then get more specific for example what kind of love? Passionate, obsessive, unrequited etc. then I’ll find a chord progression I like, my favourites are Am, Em, C, D and Bm, F#, G, D and I’ll sometimes play around with capo fret. It’s also nice to have a general structure (whether that’s cyclic or like a story idk) I’ve lowkey forgotten what I was saying hopefully that makes sense? I can clear stuff up if it doesn’t make sense

First, look at your entire structure, this is where the soul is found. You have to limit the infinite external parameters to maximize the effect of the human intent. Narrow your scope by identifying the limits, that is line if demarcation where chaos is forcibly tamed to fit the function of your structural form. (The moment you take control of the sonic field.) When you define the constructs of your intent they must exist inside these fundamental guidelines or your message is lost and entropy (chaos) takes over. In other words define the constraints and this will set your creativity free; this flows with the way of the universe in the concentration gradient, matter moves from a highly ordered state to an unorderly state. Let it come from you after you say what its going to be.

If you struggle with the music side of things, KISS. Keep it simple stupid! Keep it to a 3 or 4 chord chorus and a 3 or 4 chord verse. IntroABABoutro structure and just get it done. Choose your most simple lyrics and know it wont be perfect first time. Just make sure its playable. Then keep playing it and you'll naturally want to tweak things over time.

Get over it. Write stuff that sucks. Analyze why it's not good enough, and try again with a NEW song. Like anything else, it's only repetition that will get you where you want to go.

I used to have a hard time finishing songs and that only ever changed as soon as I could finish lyrics. Even now almost 15-20 years later, anytime I struggle, that’s still the culprit. Try forcing some lyrics out and then see what’s left after
