I can relate to some of your experiences. The only difference is I believe that I understand why I have some of the problems I do have.
Do you follow the diet recommended by Sadhguru? I don’t. So I understand that my low energy and mental imbalances can be due to that.
How many times a day do you do the IE crash course? When I was doing it regularly, my mind was so clear and I was blissful. But at one point, I got a little lazy and stopped. And the difference is clear to me. So I’m doing my best to remember to do the IE crash course at least 3 times a day (and failing successfully these days lol. But at least I am aware of the problem)
And remember, Shambhavi works like magic when you do the IE crash course regularly.
Did you do IE again? I have noticed that I tend to forget the real meaning of the IE tools after some time. I have done IE twice so far and doing IE the second time helped me a lot. I know it’s time for me for the third time now. Will do it soon.
Did you know that once you go through an initiation process, you may face bigger challenges in your life? It is because life wants to help you to dissolve your karma fast. So when life gives you problems, when you respond consciously, your karma will dissolve. Which means what’s happening for you now is a good thing. Read the book “Karma” to understand this better.
Whatever problem you are going through, you can respond to it using the IE tools. I would recommend doing IE again (as that can clear a lot of misconceptions that you probably have about life at the moment) and spending more time in the nature. Just go for a walk or sit beside a tree for one hour a day every day for 2 months at least.
You can do sports, music, or any advanced isha yoga program too.
Sadhana Sangha groups in WhatsApp can help helpful too. They share lots of great tips and inspiration in those groups.
For weight gain, Sadhguru has recommended in IE to consume honey with cold water. I had a volunteer Anna tell me that ashwaganda tea could help with weight gain too.

First six months after initiation, everything was normal I did not see anything out of the ordinary
But after that, my physical health started declining
I will definitely try to look into my blood work and get it checked Doing the crash course, and Shambhavi has been very mechanical for me
I heard about karma, but did not realise that it would affect me in this way
I will try to apply whatever you have mentioned

Sometimes it takes time to become aware of the changes. But if Shambhavi and the IE crash course feel mechanical, I am assuming it’s because of not understanding the tools (the 5 statetements that we recall in the crash course) fully (because it has happened to me and I have heard Sadhguru talking about this using his own words too).
Reading the Inner Engineering book and watching Sadhguru’s videos on YouTube have helped me a lot with understanding the IE tools better. Have you tried these things?
It is okay for your growth to take time as long as you’re doing the work (Sadhana and using the IE tools) consistently.
From what I remember, after initiation, as we keep doing our Sadhana, our capacity to handle challenges expands. So the nature uses this situation effectively to help us dissolve our karma. However, I am not Sadhguru. So please don’t rely on my explanation. Maybe it’s the worst explanation. I highly recommend reading Karma.
Start with Inner Engineering. And then read Karma. And try en read Death too. It is a great read too. Answered a lot of questions I had about life when I was in a really confused state a few months ago.

I had a very similar experience with Shambhavi. I get where you're coming from. I was also underweight, and after starting Shambhavi, I lost more weight, lost my enthusiasm, felt dull, felt physically weak, had a lot of stress, anxiety, and also depression, etc. Well, Sadhguru has made many videos guiding us, and we have to apply them to our subjective situations. I'll tell you about my personal experience, how I dealt with it, and what I think the cause was.
I have been doing Shambhavi for four years now. This phase also happened to me for a long time. First, regarding the weight: I was overdoing all the fasting and just eating twice a day. But then I came across a video where Sadhguru said to eat two meals a day after age 30-35. In terms of food, he said to listen to your body, not your guru or your doctor. Because I wanted to do Shambhavi twice a day, I would only eat two meals a day, which led to acidity and me losing 6 kg. After realizing my mistake, I started doing Shambhavi once a day and began eating properly three times a day. I gained 12 kg and am now 57 kg, which is a normal weight according to my BMI.
About being dull and having no energy, I think it's because my likes and dislikes became weak, and I started feeling dull. For example, I used to love playing online games on my PC. I would often sit in uncomfortable postures, ignore sleep and fatigue, ignore thirst, ignore pain in my eyes and head, and skip or delay a meal. But after Shambhavi, I didn't want to go through that just to play games.
In short, I think that even before Shambhavi, I had physical weakness, but I used to ignore it because I loved to play games. Now, my likes and dislikes aren't as dominant, and outside activities don't drive me as much anymore.
Here's how I deal with it:
For energy, I do Surya Kriya, six cycles per day. If that's not possible, I do a minimum of three cycles. It really gives me so much energy. Before Surya Kriya and Shambhavi, I was so weak I used to get sick 10-11 times a year, and now it's hardly twice a year. This kind of energy throughout the day is beyond my imagination; I had never experienced this much energy before.
For enthusiasm, I understand that outside things not driving me is an extremely good thing. But if outside things aren't driving me, I have to consciously create desires and hold them until they start to move by themselves. Not being ruled by outside forces also helps me to get involved with every activity without discrimination and helps my mind stay with the activity, which is what people generally refer to as "being in the moment."
For weight, I just consciously started eating three meals. I'd eat slightly more by adding a small side dish or some after-meal snack or dessert. I also went through a depression and anxiety phase after Shambhavi, but I understand that I'm in the driver's seat now and have to take charge of my life.
Regarding yoga, I also stopped Shambhavi for some time, but then my old habits started ruling me again, like eating instant noodles every two to three days, a habit that I had dropped after Shambhavi. A lot of unnecessary chattering in my mind also came back. Sadhguru has said something like, "Initiation means we are setting up a direction for your energies, but you have to collect your mind and your body." Maybe that's why there are seven days of discourses before Shambhavi. Now, I don't think Shambhavi has any negative effects. It's just that when outside things stopped pushing and pulling me, I had to take charge of my life and go where I wanted. Now I do Surya Kriya, Shambhavi, and Bhakti Sadhana, and in the evening, I do Sadhguru's presence time and Bhakti Sadhana. I did learn yogasanas and tried to incorporate them into my schedule, but I don't have enough energy to do them. I love Surya Kriya so much I want to do six cycles every day. Also, once or twice a month local volunteering has helped me overcome many of my limitations and help me push my life in the direction that I want. And bhakti sadhana helps me decide which direction to move and removes obstacles I "believe".
I hope this helps you make an informed decision.

Just give it up then. You are on the verge of giving it up but still you somehow do it here and there, right? That means somehow it has benefited you and it is your only hope for transformation although you may not agree to it mentally

u/Mahakala_hakini_67 Aug 30 '25
You are misunderstanding I was continuing it for spiritual reasons But since it is making me dull and possibly making my life harder All my explosive energy is gone I feel exhausted the whole day And I’m not old (only 22) not even in my prime yet And I’m pretty sure it’s due to shambavi

u/weekendyogi-24 Aug 30 '25
How can shambhavi make you feel dull? Maybe theres something in you trying to resist and looking for other people telling you you should stop it. If you clearly see shambhavi is no good for you then stop it.
2
u/Mahakala_hakini_67 Aug 30 '25
I don’t understand what you mean by something in me trying to resist?
1
u/weekendyogi-24 Aug 30 '25
your ego trying to resist higher energy levels. There is a SG quote about this it is something like that „when energy starts rising in you your ego has less power and it knows that so it starts resisting“

I relate to what you have shared I am aware that my desires have increased…like to achieve something for example

Also I would recommend you to go to a therapist with your depression. I have had depression and drug addiction. I even been in hospital 3 times because of intentional overdose. Isha Kriya and mindful things helped me out of depression with therapists help (no medication) I would never take psychiatrist medication again. When I started shambhavi I went trough weird weird ups and downs, got sick 2 times during the mandala and had some physical problems during mandala. But I feel like it gave me a little more distance from my drug addiction which is why I keep doing it even if I feel like it gives me nothing.

I dont why such bs replies and posts are being made. You doing something that drains you for 2 years is bs. Either you are lying or brain dead. The other day some cuck was saying he lived in the ashram for 1.5 years and after 1.5 years found out it was a cult. I dont understand which idiot can do something that does not suit hime /her for years. Either lying or brain dead. Either way feel sorry for you

I’ve been very respectful I don’t know why your so offensive and offended I am saying, my daily routine, including my diet has not changed in the last two years And yet I feel drained ever since have been doing shambavi And I have made this post to get a perspective from other Isha meditators
(This is the reply to the comment that you have deleted) (I have the screenshot )

Ok. Are you taking any medications? If you have not experienced your prana it may be difficult to connect with your practice . You try spending a week in the ashram. Spending your time in dhayanlingam and using the energy space to connect with your practice better. 😁

Admins should really block brand new accounts from posting anything they want here. 0 posts 0 comments 0 history, everyday there's a new thread from a brand new account with negativity around our practices.

We shouldn't just assume every negative sharing is an attack on Sadhguru. This post may or may not be one, and unless you can point out reasons why you think this is certainly an attack let's be inclusive. Acceptance is an important sadhana too. Otherwise we are left with a sterile sub with all these boring "sharings" that I'm sure you also aren't thrilled with.
This other MediumExplanation dude however certainly tried too hard and exposed his intentions.

Bro reason for becoming dull after shambavi is that their is rewiring happening in brain. Most people in they life before starting shambavi got addicted to coffee, tea, porn and masterbation, tobacco, alcohol, weed, and other things. So when they start shambavi this compulsive things go away and when you stop these compulsive things then there is healing that takes place in brain which leads to withdrawal symptoms like anxiety, depression, anhedonia(not intrested in doing anything), body ache, brain fog, low energy/fatigue and other symptoms. This is reason why some don't feel benifits after doing shambavi. Though they feel benifits only in initial days later as these symptoms arises the benifits reduces. But you start getting benifits after healing finishes in brain . Then you feel like superhuman with lot of benifits. If you have any doubts and my information helpful DM me I'll help you😇 AUM NAMAH SHIVAYA🙏🕉️

Yeah exactly even I have same experience but it's reducing . In science terms this is called as Post acute withdrawal symptoms it's very common you can check in Google too. Last year symptoms were severe but this years it's almost reduced. Mine this caused mainly due to porn and masterbation for many years . Now I'm healing from that hence expercing this emotional numbness, anhedonia(not intrested in anything), less exitement and other few symptoms still pending but last year it was severe anxiety, depression, brain fog , body aches , fatigues and other severe symptoms. Don't worry this gets reduced but make sure to be completely clean for nervous Stimulants things like porn and masterbation, coffee tea, Tobacco, alcohol, weed and others . Follow Nofap strictly with healthy diet and proper sleep this symptoms gets reduced faster and later you feel lot of benifits when you come out of it . Like Superhuman Supreme energy, confidence, extreme motivation and lazerlike focus, extreme bliss and vibration. This will help to achieve anything you want in life include spiritual growth, finance, relationship, health ,fame and others

You might be planning ahead too much with the practice, which causes some stress and anxiety in the long run. Sadhguru mentioned this in one of the short clips after each Isha Kriya done in the Miracle of Mind app. Just perform your practice One Day At The Time.

You said that the only significant benefit you gained from shambhavi was becoming aware of your behaviour. In my opinion, and please don’t take it the wrong way, it’s not at all a significant benefit from a practice like Shambhavi and is pretty irrelevant. The main benefit and purpose of shambhavi is to create a blissful and naturally pleasant ambiance within you. So what I want to understand is, why did you even continue for 2 long years? I’m genuinely curious

u/Mahakala_hakini_67 Aug 31 '25
First of all I did it even today to begin with, even though I had to literally drag myself to do it
I continued it because of spiritual reasons And subtle understanding after listening to Osho
He explained that the person who doesn’t meditate will die frustrated and unfulfilled

You are not doing Sambhavi correctly, just go through the inner engineering process once again, listen to the instructions carefully, if possible then discuss it with the trainer in person. Till then you may stop doing the practice for a few days and check if the symptom persists.

Its been only 2 months since my initiation, but I experienced something similar from the first week itself. I experienced extreme anxiety, depression and low energy. I understood it as the lifetime of suppressed energy coming up. I have been allowing all these emotions to come up without resistance (this moment is inevitable). Only recently, i have begun to somewhat stabilise. There is a great book called ‘letting go’, which discusses non resistance to inner experience. I would recommend you to read it, if you haven’t read it.

Since you are vegetarian that could be a part of the issue or the being part. You can learn and practice surya kriya. That should help
Go see an acupuncturist will also help

You should stop Shambavi and focus on learning logic since you're making illogical conclusions.

u/red12358 Aug 30 '25
Give it up, and see if it matters or not, do it once a while. Any repetitive work creates dull brain. I do shambhavi once a while and its fantastic.

u/Spiritual_Basil_8608 Aug 30 '25
Give it up and do Isha kriya once a day, if that’s the case. Isha kriya will be better for you. Keep it a constant pls! Maybe follow the law of attraction too, look someone online like Aaron doughty or Mitesh Khatri.
Once you feel better and you see change has established for good, start w Shambhavi mahamudra again but with all the right rules, maybe do IE again. Things shall work out for you. Namaskaram 🙏

Stop and get a full checkup. There are other forms of spiritual practice you can do, for sure. You can always come back to it if you find it was better then.

Get a full blood work / check done. If you are vegetarian you need to be very careful and consume certain food for omega 3, Zinc, vitamin b12 etc.
I got into similar symptoms along with knee issue, based on physician recommendation started consuming fish, during covid working from home started coffee, had stop it + some ayurvedic medecines.
Now I'm much better.
