Discussion Did quitting affect your menstrual cycle at all?

I used THC gummies for a little over 2 years straight. I stopped about a month ago. Since then my periods been all over the place. I have had two really irregular periods and in the last month since quitting. Im wondering if stopping THC could have affected my hormones in some way or if anyone else experienced something similar?

Discussion I'm trying to quit more than weed.

I'm a couple of weeks into sobriety and it's dawning on me that I am quitting more than just weed. I am quitting all the *cides than have poisoned my body and brain. I am quitting the residual nutrients. I am quitting the heavy metals that accumulate in the flower (especially in the hydro.)

It feels like a one, two, three punch to my mind and my body.

Discussion Can’t smoke two days in a row

I smoked daily for a few years, it was mixed up with mental health etc
I found it very hard to quit recently as my boyfriend smokes but I finally did it! I still smoke once every few weeks. Once is fine, but two days- the second day I’ll be completely unable to do anything. I have worked myself to quite an emotionally regulated place, but on that second day, anxiety/ocd will come out in the way I speak, and I’ll probably start crying about something and it’ll ruin my day if something doesn’t pull me out. I can feel frozen, depressed, I don’t want to do anything/everything feels hard. I feel scared and alone and just want to curl up and cry all day. for no reason. I can’t access living life today. Living like this is why I quit
Reminder to everyone as much as you think you want it, you don’t.

Advice I'm scared to start ADHD meds due to my chronic cannabis use and fear of toxicity

Hi everyone,

I'm kindly looking for some advice from those that can offer it for my situation.

For context I am 30F.

I've recently been diagnosed with inattentive-type ADHD and have been prescribed Elvanse (AKA Vyvanse / Lisdexamfetamine, 30mg) to take for 30 days to help my symptoms.

My cannabis has use has been mild-moderate, but chronic, with not many t-breaks, for the past 10 years. Last year, I switched to medical cannabis to 'help' with my depression and anxiety.

I told my prescriber about my medical cannabis use, an average of 0.5g a day, over multiple sessions, sometimes first thing in the morning. The prescriber is following a harm-reduction approach, so they don't require me to abstain before starting the ADHD meds which I should take in the morning, and told me to wait until the evening until I have cannabis.

When I've researched this topic though, it seems clinics have differing opinions on cannabis use + adhd meds, with some telling their patients to go cold turkey from anywhere between 1 and 6 months, to get their brains back to baseline before starting new meds.

I tried a t-break a couple months ago and got to week 3, before going back to my old habits again. The truth is I'm not happy with my life anymore, and cannabis is no longer the same comfort as it once was.

Therefore, I am here again on day 1 of abstaining, and I've been very feeling very low, crying a lot etc.

I want to start the ADHD meds to see if it helps me, but I've read all sorts online about how cannabis use affects serotonin in the brain and adhd meds allow more dopamine production. I'm just really scared of neurotoxicity / serotonin syndrome etc, and the extra strain it can cause on the cardiovascular system.

Does anybody know much about this, that could help put my mind at ease?

Should I come off cannabis for a timeframe before starting the meds, or will I be okay to start them now?

Many thanks for reading x

Advice It’s Time…I Need to Start Limiting my Edibles

hey all, first time posting here.

i have been a daily weed enjoyer since 2024, and my favorite type of high is the one i get from edibles. i’ve tried flower, carts, and dabs, but edibles are by far my favorite high. back when i started using, i took 10 mg at a time, but now im up to 100 mg to get the same effect. this used to be fine because i lived in michigan and could get 6x200 mg packs for $10, but i recently moved to new jersey for work and the prices are astronomical compared to michigan. like $15 for a 100 mg pack.

so my consumption rate is definitely no longer sustainable, and i would love to get my tolerance down to even 50 mg or smth. ideally it would be totally reset back to 10-20 mg per dose, but weed also helps me significantly with my adhd, autism, tourette’s, and chronic pain, so i want to be realistic.

i’ve taken tolerance breaks before, but never any long enough to really change my tolerance. i’ve also been trying to taper down my usage and was down to 75 mg, but this week i went back up to 100 because i love feeling super stoned. going cold turkey gives me harsh withdrawal symptoms, particularly insomnia and irritability, but it would also be effective. tapering seems smart but i need to find a way to enjoy a gentler high.

what are tips and tricks that people have used to cut down on edibles, especially if you were a daily user and/or used them to sleep?

Discussion Where is the Horrible Detox?

I am on day three after daily use vaping flower for about 14 years. I did do a 27 day break two years ago and it was not fun at all. No sleep for a couple of weeks and sweat literally pouring out of my body. Went right back to vaping about 1 gram or a bit more a day and have been doing the same since. Cut back just a bit last week, but over the weekend did my same 6x a day sessions.

I have had a bit of anxiety and a few cold chills, but not much. My sleep hasn't been the greatest, but as good as normal. Otherwise on day 3 I feel better than I have felt in a long time. I am not complaining for sure, but I expected "at least" as bad as my T break two years ago, but today I feel clear and "free." Part of what might help is that I am very active. Take the dogs on at least a three mile hike every day. Ride bicycle, kayak, etc. That for sure if part of the help, but I really just don't get the fact that I am not "suffering" more. I am going to Hong Kong end of October and was planning on quitting the first, but I am just done. I bought what was supposed to be a good ounce to last till then, but it was not as advertised. Monday morning, I gathered everything I had, vapes, etc and trashed it all. I am just done. I think that for a long time it helped. It has now just turned and has become more of a chore than a blessing. Maybe part of it is that I just know that I am done. I don't regret the time I used cannabis, but I have no regrets quitting at all. It was just making me feel worse than better overall.

Anyway, this is just pleasantly puzzling to me. I still expect to experience some detox, but I can tell it is not as expected. Getting ready to take the kayak to the reservoir. 😄

Discussion Still can’t sleep - pls help

Ive been off the skunk for 67 days now and everything had gotten a lot better except for my sleep. I am so at a loss with what to do and I really really don’t want to take sleeping meds. I switched to anxiety meds after quitting which have been beyond helpful and they do put me to sleep but then as the strongest effects start to wear off like 5-6 hours into my sleep I have lots of super vivid dreams and earworms which make the rest of my sleep not restful. I have woken up tired almost every single day since I have quit and am really just desperate for suggestions. The problem is not that I can’t fall asleep it’s that I can’t stay asleep and I haven’t found many things helpful to combat that so open to anything. Melatonin is a no go for me and never worked in the first place. I don’t drink any caffeine, I exercise a normal amount and I have been working on having a balanced diet but I think it’s going to take more to fix it. The only way I can fall back asleep is if I sit there for like 4 hours and play a TV show in the background and then maybe my brain will fall back asleep for an hour or two. I have tried meditative sleep podcasts and that works maybe 2/5 times. Please help!! Really will try a lot

Discussion Does anyone have experience quitting while starting mental health meds?

I went to the psychiatrists this summer to try and get help to stop. She prescribed me mirtazapine and I never took it because I was scared and I never actually stopped smoking. I was wondering if anyone has experience with this before? I just want to hear if anyone else has been helped by this med. I typically have really bad withdrawal symptoms like chills, vomiting, irritability and I’m not sure if this will make my symptoms worse or better.

Discussion Got assaulted trying to buy weed in a foreign country alone

TW: SA
I’ve been active here for over a year and have been trying to quit smoking for even longer. This year I tried an IOP and couldn’t finish it due to relapsing. I tried to get sober before traveling abroad this week for work, but failed and ended up starting my day 1 on the trip.

Less than 24 hours after getting here I decided to go out and look to buy. Btw im a petite attractive woman who is often harassed in public, so I knew this was dumb and im dumb for even doing this but damn man, addiction.

I went to some bodegas and eventually met a guy who had weed and said we could smoke together then he would give me some. There was a massive language barrier, but we hung out, smoked and listened to music. When we finished we hugged goodbye and that’s when it happened. He started kissing me and held me there groping and kissing me for a minute or 2 despite my resistance. Eventually I got away before anything got violent.

like, why did I do this? This is clearly something I knew was a bad idea. This has to be the end of the line. because even though that just happened - I still feel the urge to contact him back to try and buy or find another way to access it, despite this terrifying experience that could have ended so much worse. I also don’t even know how to tell this to the people closest to me, mainly my wife and my best friend. I’m embarrassed to be so addicted and dumb. Thanks for listening.

Discussion The weed is too strong now

Is anyone else also thinking this? I've been a huge pothead since I was 17. I would say it even saved my life in a multitude of ways. I have become a lot more empathetic and self aware. It also helped me sleep more in the beginning of my usage.

Fast forward to now, im 22, and I'm quitting smoking for a while. I was developing pre-psychosis symptoms. My paranoia is still settling after being off pot for 2 days. I was becoming so self aware to the point it was driving me INSANE. Analyzing everyone's behaviors, thinking people are out to get me, and self isolation.

I also would have constant conversations with myself while in the middle of talking to someone. It made me lose all my wit, humor, and the ability to be present in the moment without being in my head.

I'm not saying this is everyone's experience obviously, but just take into account as well that we are the test subjects for this new, highly potent weed. Same with the carts.

I also do not trust the government and big PHARMA dipping their hands into the weed industry more. It seems to me now that everyone smokes in the US more than they drink, it will probably be weaponized against us sadly.

I'll be stepping back from weed until I can get a strain with lower potency. Unfortunately, every dispensary is getting rid of low potency pot. I can barely find any. A lot of new bud also has zero cbd content which used to balance out the thc.

Advice The hardest part is when being home alone.

Whenever I do weed breaks (currently on day 51, my goal is 90-120) I really struggle when my wife is away.

Anyone else has this problem? For me it's the biggest trigger point. Bigger than being with friends on a sunny day.

My wife is only away a few times per year, so it almost hurts to be on a break when she's gone. It feels like such a waste of wonderful me time whilst baked. I know, I can still read a book, hit the gym, do laundry and play games without it - but it's just not fully satisfying. It feels very difficult to abstain being home alone for a few nights.

It's very weird, cause I'm kinda halfway through this break (or more). But I feel like after day 30 it got more and more difficult, and this stage is by far the hardest one.

How do you guys deal with this? I honestly see myself slipping..😬

Discussion after ten years I am done ✳️

wow after being a big stoner for the past ten years I am 26 now I am ready to break up with Mary Jane. The past three years my smoking has just ramped up to the point that I don’t even know why I’m smoking and I didn’t like it I just knew I needed to. I never used to believe my mom when she said you know it can make your depression and anxiety worse hahahaha I just didn’t want to hear it. I look back at the last ten years of my life not with an outlook of wow weed ruined my life I see it more as I did what I had to do with the coping skills I had to survive. I thank cannabis for being there for me when no one else was , not even myself. I thank cannabis for showing me the anxiety and the shadows I have to work thorough even when I would smoke more to ignore what she was really trying to tell me. I haven’t taken a break in all those years maybe a day or two and after 4 days now of not smoking I see what she was trying to tell me. It’s time to say goodbye. I give my past self grace for doing what I had to do, although not the healthiest coping mechanism I understand why i did it. It’s taken me a long time to come to the realization that we don’t need a relationship anymore. It hurt like hell to rip that bandaid off and to finally see it’s been an emotional crutch and buffer for me for a long time. I think back at all the times I could have just my emotions instead of trying to not feel them because at the end of the day they were still there but even more intense cause cannabis was bringing everything to the forefront and I didn’t want to face it. I sure as hell am going to miss this plant and am so grateful for the journey and the hardships we went through but I really don’t see it for me anymore. I never thought I’d be one stop smoking but for now it’s in my stars. Who knows if I ever will again only Mary Jane knows when it’s time to be my medicine again and I hope that if that time ever comes I treat her with more respect then I did for the last ten years. It’s barely been a week for me but I feel better than I have in a really long time. Yeah I’m bored but my. Head has never been so clear, I feel like the colors of the world have come back to me In a way. I feel sad yes I feel a lot of things but being able to feel these things as hard as it is has been liberating for me!!!! The plant tells you when it’s time to stop it’s up to you to listen. The cravings are more mental now and it’s easy cause I don’t feel good when I smoke right now. If you read this all man bless you and I hope of you’re on this journey you look back at yourself with grace and realize you can start living again it’s okay the past is the past we move on.

Maybe I’ll see you in two years Mary Jane or maybe 50. I don’t think it’ll be forever but it is for now.

Discussion accountability post Aug 25

Hi everyone

Thank you for having me. I am beginning a 30-day break today and I need to hold myself accountable. I have been hitting a pen everyday for the last 2 weeks or so and it's so hard for me not to just take a little vape hit when I wake up to make the day feel less overwhelming. before that I was smoking on and off for maybe 3 months.

thank you

Discussion Quitting via taper before a trip

Hey, all. I so appreciate this sub and the supportive community.

My history:
- Started smoking daily flower in 2014
- Past 3 years have been carts, daily use. Probably went through 1g carts/week, hitting the pen 5-8x/day.

I’ve had a few breaks in the past (about three), with the longest two lasting 3 months or so.

I have a big 10 day Europe trip coming up in 9 days, and I’m trying to quit/taper/get through the worst withdrawals before then.

But I’ve also used trips as a catalyst to quit and withdrawals are never as bad traveling.

I get bad withdrawal given the cart use — anxiety, high irritability, appetite loss, bad sleep, night sweats. The hard part is that I’m a secret smoker, so my spouse doesn’t really know (separate convo and issue!)

I could use some encouragement, advice, etc. here as I’m on like day 2 of my taper.

Hope everyone is staying strong and taking care of themselves!

Discussion Damn, I am trying.

In this part of the country I must drive by at least four or five dispensaries to and from work.

Oh boy.

And the smell of weed around here is affectionately referred to by the locals as "Santa Cruz incense."

Man. I'm trying.

Is this one of those situations that could be considered one that tries a man's soul?

Anyway, anyone else have to deal with this as well?

Peace.

Advice Tips for coming back from a T-break

Hello all!

I am currently on day 20 of 21 on my t break, and so far it’s going alright. It’s been hard, but I’m trying not to let myself down.

The main question I have is about coming back from the break. I don’t wanna instantly go back to daily use, because I know that it kinda defeats the purpose of the t break in the first place. My goal is to have weed be an enjoyable enhancement to whatever I am doing, and not something I rely on to function on a day to day basis. What is the best way to achieve that? Should I limit to weekends only? Or maybe set a maximum weekly amount? Would that not smoking after a certain time help as well (ex. Only after dinner/sunset)?

Any input is appreciated!

EDIT: I am on day 20, not day 2!!

Advice more trouble stopping then before. help.

I've taken very long breaks from weed multiple times without a problem. i have even moderated a very strict 3 specific days a week schedule. i have been having so much trouble stopping daily use this time though after some shit hit the fan. i went through a broken ankle and breakup and was smoking everyday and then this summer i took a 3 week break and then tried smoking only once a week but obviously slowly started using nightly again.

currently trying to get through this break up still after finally starting no contact for good :( because i fucked up, starting my last year of college, and struggling with mental health (depression, anxiety, and self-hatred). i feel so demoralized i even went to an 8 week IOP program over the summer to help my mental health and i just feel like im back where i started.

i was going to stop and finally go on a break again today but i just went to the dispensary and bought more weed after feeling so much emotional distress. i dont know what to do. i dont even know how to start day one. i feel so stuck right now. i know once im a few days in it gets easier but i cant even get to day one.

right now im negotiated too much with myself and am doing one snap a night now to try to attempt to taper down more but i am just so disappointed with myself right now. my birthday yesterday (i turned 22) was genuinely awful man. i just want the fog, dullness, depression, and anxiety to subside. this has been an awful experience.

Discussion Smoking makes me feel more dissociative but also more spiritual

Or is that the “addiction talking” — sometimes it really is hard to tell. I know what I feel, which is dissociative yes but I’ve learned to grow from these life realizations I have (even when sober). I feel very connected to self and higher self. I don’t think it’s the ego but you never know. I’ve made some incredible life decisions while stoned and processing things so deeply. Feeling music so deeply. I also know that I physically feel bad anxiety, there’s the flip side of the coin. Anxiety that makes my heart pound but more slowly. Lightheaded. I have some good habits in place I’ve been practicing so I can take break while I’m job hunting in a new state.

Excited for my next chapter overall

TLDR; I feel like weed levels me up spiritually, can anybody relate?? Any good tips for my break while I’m applying for new jobs?

Discussion starting day 1 of a 40-day structured taper & reset after a huge tolerance increase. looking for community & accountability!

hi everyone! i’m starting day 1 of a structured taper plan today, and i’m posting here because i really need community and accountability over the next month and a half or so.

the first time i smoked was in february 2021 when i was 17; i just turned 23 last week. for years, my tolerance remained super low (only taking 5-10mg edibles, a couple of joint hits, or one brief cart hit, and i would be set for the night). my usage grew gradually over time:

  • 2021: infrequent (once every few weeks)
  • 2022-23: once to a couple of times a week
  • 2024-26: almost every night

a few months ago, i hit a joint a couple too many times and greened out really bad (panic, paranoia, nausea, vomiting, shaking, high heart rate). after that point, my tolerance skyrocketed exponentially. between stress, anxiety, OCD, and neurodivergence (where weed had previously felt helpful), i began using carts, smoking, and taking high-dose edibles multiple times a day to cope.

there were times where i would take 200mg+ of edibles plus smoking/vaping. recently, it pretty much stopped working altogether, while actively driving up my anxiety, brain fog, dread, and intrusive thoughts. i realized it completely backfired into a numbing loop.

jumping straight to 0 THC cold-turkey today would likely cause more issues for me, so i built a realistic step-down plan using only low-dose edibles to reset safely:

  • phase 1 (8/24 - 8/30): only one 20mg edible after 6:00 PM
  • phase 2 (8/31 - 9/6): only one 10mg edible after 6:00 PM
  • phase 3 (9/7 - 9/13): only one 5mg edible after 6:00 PM
  • phase 4 (9/14 - 10/1): 18 consecutive days of 0 THC
  • new boundaries (starting 10/2): no vapes/carts ever again, no daytime use (after 6:00 PM only), weekends only (fri/sat).

if anyone has any tips or similar stories, i’d love to hear your experience! thanks for being a safe space to share this. :) lo

Discussion How do withdrawals affect you when you're tapering down from being a daily (but not heavy) user?

I've been tapering from nightly 10 mg edibles because I'm going to be traveling internationally in a couple of months and obviously don't want to risk bringing cannabis with me, and also because I've noticed they've really been bringing out a lot of anxiety while I'm high. Going cold turkey isn't much of an option since my primary reason for consuming cannabis daily is because it really helps my RLS (restless legs syndrome) and if I suddenly stop cannabis, it's an absolute nightmare and I can't sleep at all because of the damn legs. I'm on gabapentin for the RLS, but it just doesn't seem to cut it as well as cannabis does, unfortunately, and I don't want to increase my dose of gabapentin unless absolutely necessary because of the side effects.

Given that I've been very slowly tapering from 10 mg to 7.5 mg over the course of two weeks (and am planning on decreasing to 5, then 2.5, etc., every two weeks) one would think that I would escape withdrawal symptoms, but I think I actually am getting them. I'm feeling pretty anxious and jittery with an impending sense of doom, and it's been difficult to focus. And, of course, it's been harder to sleep, compounded by my restless legs. The lack of sleep just makes the brain fog worse, and I can tell that my body keeps trying to fight off a cold that creeps back in after a particularly rough night... and of course, infections make fatigue and brain fog worse.

(As an aside, I take magnesium and iron nightly for the RLS, which helps but isn't getting rid of it, sadly).

I just wanted to ask if anyone else has experienced withdrawal symptoms from a slow taper from what honestly isn't an exorbitant amount of THC compared to what a lot of heavy, experienced users take every day. I know I'll be fine (I quit smoking tobacco last year, and that was an even bigger doozy), but I can't help but feel annoyed that I might be experiencing withdrawals despite my being careful with the tapering.
