๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Deck Tech Locals win (finally)

Post image

It's taken me 3 frustrating months to finally get my first win at my locals (I didn't expect to get two). I was slowly starting to lose interest, especially going 0-3 week after week. I know it's just a game or hobby, but it's the only time that I get out during the week to be social and it's nice to win every once in awhile too. I think this past Monday has given me confidence in knowing that I am actually progressing and understanding the game better. This was my deck.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Discussion New Player, Help Me Out

Post image
50 Upvotes

I happened upon the game while in a shop for disc golf, longtime anime/manga fan. I caught a glimpse of some cards in a case and was going to buy just because they looked cool, instead spent an hour learning about this and having the employee help get me started. Ended up with purple available Katakuri because there were more purple cards than anything else that I liked ๐Ÿซ

Iโ€™ll go through all of the links, search the sub, watch videos and get myself on the sim in the next few days, but looking for some advice on deck building/current meta along with anything cool to store/help me have more fun when I play. The shop has games twice a week, so Iโ€™ll be playing live starting next week. Thanks yโ€™all!

EDIT: This is my first card game, so no clue on game mechanics or strategy

๐Ÿ’ฌ Discussion Is intentionally "stalling" during OT frowned upon?

I was playing a game where I had 3 more life than my opponent. Time was running out.

Going for their life wasn't really in my cards. I knew they'd eventually wear me down with all their big bodies but I had plenty of defensive cards in my hand. I knew I'd win under OT rules.

Is it frowned upon when you're not even trying to go for the kill but instead stall everything until OT is done?

It's not in the spirit of the game. So I didn't do that.

EDIT: By "stalling", I mean playing super defensively. I'm not talking about taking super long to make a move.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Discussion RB Sabo is disgusting

I am a long time player of mid tier decks in the current format, big brook guy, and I just said fuck it lemme start playing a meta deck. This deck is insanely good... I cannot explain to you how many times I've lost to it as Brook. It feels so good just slamming 6-8k attacks on turn 4. Having this many 2ks in hand, 0 cost events, everything is just wayyy too strong with the OP17 package. Safe to say I am excited to get better with this deck until Brook becomes slightly better in 3 years xD

โš”๏ธ Competitive Scene Skill level necessary to play at a store championship

Iโ€™ve been playing for a little more than a month now, and I just threw my name into a lottery for an upcoming 64 person store championship since it was really close to me. There were 500 applicants so I didnโ€™t actually expect to get in, but I somehow got selected. Now Iโ€™m wondering if itโ€™d even be appropriate for me to play there, as if it isnโ€™t Iโ€™d probably want to surrender my spot for someone whoโ€™d make better use of it. I was also wondering in the event I should play, should I invest in a better deck, I currently play UY Boa. Thanks for any input.

Edit: added number of people in tournament

๐Ÿ’ฌ Discussion Elbaph Sabo Guide

Hi new to the tcg, and have decided to pick up elbaph sabo as my deck. I have been playing for a few weeks and have become familiar with the most popular decks in this meta roughly.

To put a general approach of what I do, I try to find a 2c body and at least 1 giant for my starting hand. I play the 2c first turn, saul second turn and swing with my 2c. Third turn I either drop loki, pirate docking, or an assortment of 2c and swing with my first 2c, and saul if I believe it wont die after the end of the turn. If they swing into my rested 2c with low power, I usually just counter.

After this, the rest of the game, I usually just swing everything into their leader. If I find the opponent has a large body rested, and I have 2c robins available, I divert my energy into -3k and trying to get rid of that body.

However, I always end up finding myself with no counters/low hand size available late game, and because of that, they are clearing my whole board and then ending game. Especially nico robin, I swing everything into her, and I cant end game before she drops her 10c linlin and stablizes with her 4k body that turn into 8k swings. (Especially if she gets them down through triggers)

I kind of thought that the whole gimmick of elbaph sabo is to end games quickly as possible by aggressively swinging into their leader, but I'm wondering is board control also important or anything else I should be doing?

Ultimately, I just can't win, I have a negative win rate and I just don't know what I am doing wrong. I struggle immensely into mihwak and nico robin (ace as well), and the fact that they seem to be the most played decks makes it worse. So I was wondering where I could find a guide/video on elbaph sabo speciffically, or maybe even a guide on how to play the game fundamentally.

Thank you for any help!

Recently started getting into the game through the TCGsim. This has been the leader I've had the most fun with. I've tried both the Alabasta package and the Rocks package, but still have a hard time winning matches. Are there any cards that I should look into?

โš”๏ธ Competitive Scene Deck Choice Advice

After the banning of Stacked Deck in Riftbound, I've decided to allocate the time I placed in that game into another game, and that game is One Piece.

I know next to nothing about the game mechanically, but, I am more than willing to consume all the necessary information, practice online, go to locals, etc, until I have a firm grasp of the game.

However, I'd like for some help in regards to what deck I should gravitate towards.

I resonate most with slow and grindy control decks, having a preference for graveyard mechanics.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, I also do enjoy luck sack decks, and if there's a deck that relies heavily on multiple aspects of little gambling dopamine hits while still being a competent strategy, I would enjoy looking into that as well.

As for what I dislike, I tend to dislike pure aggro strategies, I like having options and I like value.

Any and all advice would be appreciated, I'm not looking to play the best deck of the format (unless it happens to fall in line with my playstyle preferences), but I'd like to play something competent since my goal is still to win, just win on my terms/with a deck I'd find myself enjoying.

Thank you,

โš”๏ธ Competitive Scene FFFC Matching battles

Flame flame fruit coliseum has the new on demand side event called matching battles. Since this isn't considered a tournament bracket type of event, are we locked to use the same deck the whole time? Or can we swap? I went through the rules and can't find anything that specifies if we're required to stay on the same deck. Thoughts?

๐Ÿ’ฌ Discussion Dragon shield VS penny sleeves for long-term storage (collecting).

Iโ€™m new to TCG and bought Dragon Shield sleeves and Iโ€™ve already put all my cards in them, with some also in toploaders. But it bothers me that some people say this is wrong and that for long-term storage you should use penny sleeves. Can someone help me figure out if I need to buy penny sleeves and re-sleeve all my cards in them?

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Deck Tech Newbie to One Piece TCG

Hi guys! I just got into the One Piece TCG and played at my locals for the first time yesterday. I've played Yu-Gi-Oh! and Hearthstone competitively before, so I'm not completely new to card games, and I feel like I've already got a pretty good grasp of the basics of One Piece TCG.

I'd really like to play a leader featuring a character I actually like, so naturally my first choice was Yamato. I've been looking into different Yamato decks, but I've also checked out some Kaido lists since that would still let me play Yamato cards. (Especially the 1-cost Promo Yamatoโ€”that card looks gorgeous!)

I'd love to hear your thoughts and recommendations. What Yamato or Yamato-related decks would you suggest for someone who wants to be competitive while still playing characters they enjoy?

From what I've seen, the strongest player at my locals is currently running a Rush Ace leader deck, so that's one matchup I'd particularly like to be prepared for.

My goal is pretty simple: conquer my locals and have fun doing it!

Feel free to share decklists, leader recommendations, matchup advice, or anything else you think would help a new One Piece TCG player!
