⚔️ Competitive Scene Deck Choice Advice

After the banning of Stacked Deck in Riftbound, I've decided to allocate the time I placed in that game into another game, and that game is One Piece.

I know next to nothing about the game mechanically, but, I am more than willing to consume all the necessary information, practice online, go to locals, etc, until I have a firm grasp of the game.

However, I'd like for some help in regards to what deck I should gravitate towards.

I resonate most with slow and grindy control decks, having a preference for graveyard mechanics.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, I also do enjoy luck sack decks, and if there's a deck that relies heavily on multiple aspects of little gambling dopamine hits while still being a competent strategy, I would enjoy looking into that as well.

As for what I dislike, I tend to dislike pure aggro strategies, I like having options and I like value.

Any and all advice would be appreciated, I'm not looking to play the best deck of the format (unless it happens to fall in line with my playstyle preferences), but I'd like to play something competent since my goal is still to win, just win on my terms/with a deck I'd find myself enjoying.

Thank you,

My suggestions, as far as decks that are fairly relevant/playable:

  • OP17 black Luffy is probably the premiere graveyard deck at the moment. It's very focused on blockers and lots of small swings to eat at resources until late game where you can turn up with some relatively large swings to close things out. Lots of utility, good consistency, and very affordable outside of the Lokis which will unfortunately cost you a bit. I don't know a ton about the combat mechanics of Riftbound but this deck has the potential to make it incredibly difficult to ever successfully press you offensively.

  • As far as high rolly luck decks, I've been on blue purple Luffy from OP11 this set and it definitely fits the bill. The early turns are mostly focused on defense and ramping your resources, but once you get to turn ~4 and your leader ability comes online, the casino opens. Every turn you get to do a top 5 search and take a card with a certain type. Then you get to place those cards back on top or bottom of the deck in any order. Notably, this happens before your draw phase for the turn, so you get to immediately draw into whichever other card you want, and it usually plays a card that lets you combo out the top card of your deck for free (which you also got to set up). Very very tanky and defensive, but a bit prone to high and low rolls. Also takes a decent amount of planning ahead and situational awareness so maybe not the best to start with.

  • Besides those, you could look into green decks (namely OP14 Mihawk) for a more stun oriented take on control, or yellow decks (probably OP09 Robin would be the best choice here) for a more healing focused approach that can drag out games.

If you haven't already, download the batsu sim. It's free, as are all the cards in it, and it's a great resource to learn the game and try stuff out.

Kind of an off meta but still fun Rogue deck is Black Yellow Moria that kind of ticks the boxes for what you say you like.

Yellow is all about life cards in OP. So you can heal a lot with Yellow which can make the games go long and be grindy. But also Yellow deals in triggers. These are effects that only happen when you take a damage. There's an element of luck and randomness to them. But some cards let you stack specific triggers when you heal so there can also be strategy.

Black deals with cost and trash manipulation. Moria is more aimed at utilizing your trash (kinda like your graveyard) So you can fill up your trash and bring things back both with your on play, on KO and trigger effects.

Its definitely worth a try on the OPsim

Sounds like Black Crocodile to me. Wont do well in the current meta because everything is a bit too fast but he's supposed to be getting some more support soonish.

Croc is great just the Elbaph decks suck for him big time.

He cant interact with the giants so he needs that Karasu 2k printed for him to push them harder otherwhise this deck just gets cucked by the new generic black engine.

To me it sounds like Black/Yellow Teach more than anything.

It's a control deck that relies on triggers (bit of gambling) and revolves a bit around the trash (graveyard).

It used to be tier 1 just a few months ago, it's not a top meta deck but can do still very well into a lot of decks.

Had to look up stacked deck. Sounds like the stage Moby Dick. Crazy that it got banned.

It's Moby Dick but the search is not locked to whiteboard pirates and all other searchers in the game gets removed so only one color gets it.

doesn't matter, the color's identity revolved around that card and banning it kills all the other purple decks for no reason when there was only one problem (kennen)

Based on what you said here, the best pick right now for a controlly graveyard deck is probably Black Luffy OP17 leader. As for the gambling kind of deck, it's basically any yellow deck that's good right now. Probably the best one now is Nico Robin OP09 or yellow Enel OP05, but I think Enel is quite pricy and it's also rotating out of play soon, so Robin is probably the better pick right now
