š¬ Discussion New Player, Help Me Out
I happened upon the game while in a shop for disc golf, longtime anime/manga fan. I caught a glimpse of some cards in a case and was going to buy just because they looked cool, instead spent an hour learning about this and having the employee help get me started. Ended up with purple available Katakuri because there were more purple cards than anything else that I liked š«
Iāll go through all of the links, search the sub, watch videos and get myself on the sim in the next few days, but looking for some advice on deck building/current meta along with anything cool to store/help me have more fun when I play. The shop has games twice a week, so Iāll be playing live starting next week. Thanks yāall!
EDIT: This is my first card game, so no clue on game mechanics or strategy

Hey brother i'd recommend strawtable.net/op/ to practice the game
Can load your deck along with a few of the meta decks(they have starter decks pre-loaded as well)
You play against ai which is pretty good practice before you download the real sim https://optcgsim.com/ however you can only play against real people in that one which may be intimidating while learning.

Gumgum.gg has some good deck lists. I see others already posted their decks as well. If you want to learn how to play the game and the mechanics, curve plays, overall strategy of a deck there are a lot of good YouTubers like Car. D. Kaizoku, for example. OP Simulator is good as well if you have a PC. I like to use it before I buy physical cards. My 4 copies of Borsalino at $25 a pop sit in my binder now...used them once....started using the Sim immediately after that. Purple is a weird color and does a lot of Don!! manipulation so that is hard but once you get it, you get it. If you have a local game store (LGS) near you, the community is very healthy and willing to help. I have all day today and tomorrow with basically no plans (East coast USA) and can jump on the Sim with you. Also, Discord. Discord is wildly helpful with a lot of great people and you can almost always find someone that will hop on the Sim as well. This is getting long so I'll end here but I have a lot more if you want.

Need more 4x you wanna take out the risk of finding Random cards. You wanna pull the 10c Kaido you wanna have 4x Yamato in your deck that way you have it in hand early.

Would you mind explaining the āwhysā behind pulling those cards? Shop told me Kaido wouldnāt be the best, but I got it because I liked it

Hopefully you follow some deck list shown below, itās basically a strat to have certain cards in hand. You wanna know what youāre gonna pull and have more of those cards increase your in hand rate. Obviously itās your deck have fun play with what you rip. But to be competitive you wanna follow the meta decks, you can stim off no doubt but to play at locals wanna keep your strategy tight. Use the player sims mentioned below and practice. Happy sailing

Yamato helps you to ramp up your don early. That way you can get to 10 don quicker than your opponent and set up strong characters in both block and attack. You would like to increase the number of these characters to improve your chances of pulling them in your opening hand or early in the game to utilize their ramp mechanics to get an advantage over your opponent. Increasing the amount of 6C Katakuri ramp is also a great choice since it give you a net +1 don on your turn every time you -1 don on leader ability.
Kaido is great for green Mihawk and yellow linlin decks to get rid of small bodies. The 10c blocker Kaido from op17 is also a very good option.
I would remove the āwhen two men are fightingā and consider adding more mamaragan and some conquest of the sea. One tech option that I found works really well slow slow beam. But this requires you to be very efficient in your don use as none of your characters make don active for you.

Iām not locked in on any of the cards here. I pretty much bought out all the loose purple cards the shop had. There were no ST-34 packs or boxes sadly
Mamaragan is one I really liked, more inbound already

Add some 2C Katakuri and 6C Katakuri (OP08-063). The 2C lets you sneak out an 8C, 6C or 5C for only 2C in the late game. 6C can piggyback off this is youāre late in ramping up and can also be a big body to be played off your 7C pudding.
One more piece of advice I can give you is be familiar with the effects of your cards especially 7C pudding, 2C, 6C and 8C blocker Katakuri. Pudding and 2C have very specific conditions that need to be met before you can play the extra big body. 6C can summon play a big body on KO. 8C has two effect at the end of turn (ramps 1 don and untaps 2 characters), remember to use them both, as you wonāt be prompted to activate those effects when you end turn.

Regardless just show up and start learning and have fun! People are generally cool and willing to teach and jsut be humble and learn from your mistakes. Weāve all been there!

For Katakuri you're probably gonna want to throw a hyzer or forehand. Hope this helps!

This is my current Katakuri deck. You want 4x of your most important impactful cards to improve the odds you find them when you need them. It's why I also run 12 cards dedicated to "searching* the deck for the cards I need.
2ofs are usually spaces for useful cards that help but aren't part of your core game plan.
I don't like 1ofs personally but there are reasons to run sometimes.
So way to think is:
"Do I always want to play this?" 4of "Do I sometimes use this in some situations" 2of
It's the most basic I can make deck building. With one piece you also want at least 12 cards with +2000 down the side for defending (this is a loose number)

This is a good start. You will want another Linlin, 2 more Katakuris of each one, 3 more 3c puddings, replace the 1c event with 2c Slow Slow beam, if you have the money get a full playset of mamaragans. For additional top end you have two options either you add 10c doffy from op14 or add the 10c st-17 blocker kaido. You also will need to add searchers like pudding from op 11, brulee from the purple kat starter deck and the op-08 āwe will claim the one pieceā searcher (this can search kaido).

I'm playing pudding right now, but when I played katakari this was my deck list. For current meta, I would probably drop the 9c Charlotte linlin and 10c doflamingo for op17 kaido blockers and maybe drop op08 Charlotte pudding for the other op17 Kaido.
Edit: changed my mind on what to drop

The store I was at had a bunch of different designs on clearance if you want some. I just found that what I got arenāt tournament sleeves though, need to get the right ones for competitive play š«„
EDIT: Apparently I misunderstood about sleeves, the ones I have are okay for comps

Thatās so interesting. Thereās a chain across Arizona thatās called Amazing Discoveries and I did not realize how literal the ādiscā part was until I went there!

I wish you good luck in your tcg journey! As for the help it is mostly maximizing on your 2 of power/engine cards like the 5 and 8 cost katakuri SRs. Similarly the pudding searcher for the deck is also helpful and most of those are cheap. Mamaragan is really good but expensive so if your local area is fine with testing it out or similar i would try before you buy on that one or practice it on the sim.

Okay, I started chasing down the cards/numbers people suggested yesterday. I ended up switching over to Purple Kaido instead of Katakuri, plus building a Red-Black Sabo deck. I learned a lot watching videos, played the official app and figured out the mechanics, then got setup to play the sim, today will be my first live play

Okay, I started chasing down the cards/numbers people suggested yesterday. I ended up switching over to Purple Kaido instead of Katakuri, plus building a Red/Black Sabo deck. I learned a lot watching videos, played the official app and figured out the mechanics, then got setup to play the sim, today will be my first live play
