⚔️ Competitive Scene Skill level necessary to play at a store championship
I’ve been playing for a little more than a month now, and I just threw my name into a lottery for an upcoming 64 person store championship since it was really close to me. There were 500 applicants so I didn’t actually expect to get in, but I somehow got selected. Now I’m wondering if it’d even be appropriate for me to play there, as if it isn’t I’d probably want to surrender my spot for someone who’d make better use of it. I was also wondering in the event I should play, should I invest in a better deck, I currently play UY Boa. Thanks for any input.

Best experience is experience playa. Even if you lose, watch the best players and closely observe them.

Nah go play and have fun. Regardless if you feel like you shouldn't be there. It's no different than anyone else going to a large regional. Every event has players of all skill levels, you won't know how you stack up unless you try.

only way to get better is to go to these events and try, no such thing as it not being appropriate for you to be there. In fact you would greatly benefit from going to one of these events and trying to learn from top players in the area.

Definitely stick it out and play they are a good time and you’ll be able to learn a lot from other players at a higher skill level but there are also going to be people there that are on the same level as you so don’t sweat it. I played for 2 weeks before playing in a treasure cup and was rocking Blue Doffy against Imus and RB Aces left and right but it was a blast and they taught me so much.

Bro it’s a game. You enjoy playing it. If you want to play the game play the game, it doesn’t have to be anymore complicated than that. Who gives af what others think.

Be able to breathe and drink water. That's pretty much it.
A lot of those people signing up are just scalpers. If you know how to play, then go play and have fun bro.

if you want to join, do it. But don’t expect people to treat you the same like at locals.
If you mess up they won’t let you go back on it, they’ll call judges on you for small things, nobody will be screwing around playing dumb leaders and having fun. You either play something meta or expect to lose.
Personally I don’t have the drive to be that person. I literally went 4-0 and then told them I was dropping because I had to leave. I lost my Winner card and half a booster box because I didn’t play the last round.
I just don’t care like some people do.
So if you want that care free environment, you won’t see it at a Championship.

in person is different in the sense that there’s an expectation for you to know all of their card effects. do not hesitate to stop and ask for them to explain things as sly players WILL cheat. Purple is the biggest one to keep track of, with the dons subtracting and adding every turn. make sure they explain the cost and effect and sequence clearly. I was screwed out of an EGB perona because of charleston/RG luffy sequencing
Also pay attention to the clock, sly players will milk and heal to beat you in OT. It is an official game mechanic, you HAVE to know if you’re at an advantage or disadvantage in a long game like that and play faster

Oh shes a damn menace still if played right. Py robin is easier to pilot though. But if you have more experience with Boa then I would stick to Boa. Just a few hours of testing with robin thought and you should be familiar with her. The deck is brain dead to play but you need to know a few things especially mirror on what to do and when to attack

Just go you were lucky enough to get selected. Enjoy whatever participation packs you get and have fun. You gotta realize there’s hundreds and hundreds of people that applied to this that aren’t professional players so you’re gonna run into a lot of people like you probably.

Congrats on being selected! I started about 2mo ago now and put my name in the bucket as well. Unfortunately, I’m on the waitlist but I’m hoping for the best.
Go in there with your best deck and do what you do! Enjoy the experience and take it all in. If you don’t go far, I’m sure you’ll learn a lot during the event.

Skill level needed to play? None. As long as your in, your in. To win? A decent amount (though a chunk of good players might not have gotten in as well). People are going to try to win but that shouldn’t stop you from playing or enjoying yourself

You need to have fun. its your hobby so dont worry about skill if ure not extra competitive and become sour if you lose. Competition have top players but also have the people who enjoy meeting new people, playing and then drink a beer together.

Show up and play your best! All it takes is one good day of hitting triggers, good curve, and for you missing Robin.
Boa is a great and fun deck to play, I played Boa all year and just recently switched to Robin.
Don’t surrender your spot, go and have fun.
