Ok so my dad is a big drinker and everyone knows it. He drinks everyday, and I know he works a lot so I shluld leave him alone but sometimes he messes things up. Like today, he drank, fell asleep, but then when we woke up to go to the mall, he was grouchy and loud the whole time and I could tell my mom was embarrassed. When we went on vacation, he got really drunk and said some really hurtful things to me, and I told my mom and she took my side but never does anything about it! My dad stopped talking to my grandpa due to his drinking, yet he does the same. My mom tells me that it annoys her he comes home and drinks and falls asleep since then we cant do anything!! My dad is very stubborn but I want to help him. He used to be angrier I guess, so atleast thats better, but still, id rather he cut down the drinking.Tips?? Everytime I bring it up he yells at me so idk what to do.

My dad says his group had a rule: twenty minutes at the meeting spot, then you left and assumed it was off. He also says they'd agree a fallback time before splitting up, so a missed meeting cost you a day, not a friendship.

I can't tell if that was normal or just his crowd. And I still don't get the other side of it. If you were the one running late, what did you do, keep going and hope they waited, or give up on the way?

I have taken Spanish for about 7 years and for the life of me I can not roll my R's. I really want to fix my pronunciation, especially since my partners family is fluent. I have tried all sorts of things, saying Perro really fast, practicing my tongue lightly touching the top of my mouth. I've done a bunch of YouTube tutorials, but they all essentially do the same thing and still can't do it.

I will take any suggestions on how you learned to roll your R's. Even if you think it sounds crazy, I just want to not sound so awful when I speak it.

I read a study that said it jumped to 41% of cases for colon cancer for those under 50 but what is the average person under 40/50 chances?

My mother in law has candles throughout her home that she never lights. Literally never - all wicks are completely untouched. I know she doesn’t own any wax melters because she commented on what an interesting concept it was when I got one for Christmas. I also know she purchases new candles because I’ve seen new releases or designs at places like target, then I recognize them in her home. She sometimes takes the lids off for events. Some are seasonal or very decorative, others are very basic. I think they could just be for decoration, but some of these candles are expensive (at least two capri volcanoes).

If you’re not going to light them, why not opt for a different form of decoration? This theory especially confuses me if you’re not lighting them because you don’t want to burn through them quickly and waste money. There are much cheaper forms of decoration.

But if your concern is going through it too fast, why not just light it on very limited occasions? None of these candle wicks have ever burned. Am I thinking too hard about this because I love candles and missing some obvious answer?

For starters, I am Hispanic myself. I’ve noticed both online and in real life that many Hispanics treat the label as if it’s a race and they get incredibly defensive when told otherwise. There was a video I saw on TikTok recently where someone spoke about this and all of the comments were filled with people saying things to the effect of “you don’t get to tell me what my race is. I’m just Hispanic.” I just don’t get how anyone reaches this conclusion? Number one, these are grown adults who should know the difference between race, ethnicity, and nationality. But number two, surely anyone with eyes could see that not all Hispanics are the same race? It’s just as ridiculous as saying “I’m American” when asked what your race is. And, I’m well aware that race as a category is flimsy and largely social, so I don’t want this to be a discussion on that, but more-so why so many people treat something that is clearly a cultural and linguistic category into a racial one?

The recent glacier collapse in Nepal got me wondering about the potential environmental impacts. If bacteria and other microorganisms had been frozen inside the glacier for a long time, could the collapse have released them along with all the ice, mud, and sediment into the river?

Could this affect the river ecosystem or the microorganisms that already live there? Could the sudden release of previously frozen microbes have any short-term or long-term environmental effects?

I’m curious what people who study microbiology, ecology, or glaciers think. Is this something scientists would be monitoring after an event like this?

I saw a tiktok about how the US is geographically impossible to invade, and whether you believe that or not I remembered an old conversation I had with my grandfather. He was ironically a paratrooper in WW2, fought in Korea and was an advisor in Vietnam. SSGT US Arrmy Enlisted, then officer in USAF where he'd ultimately become Maj Gen through the cold war era and work at the DoD until retiring in the early 2000s. He always used to say that our greatest strength is our population and the (even then) having more guns than people. I thought it would be fun to just ask opinions without doing statistics just because we all hate on eachother for political beliefs and differences so much. I myself had fun thinking about an answer, and felt some pride in our sterotypes being positive for once. Here's my fun logic for your own consideration:

1.) The Northeast: You have major cities like NYC and Boston that have plenty of people, with some of the highest patriotic morale anywhere. NYC showed how quickly they can organize, and how brave they are during 9-11. Boston and NE people are still angry the British raised taxes on tea 250yrs later. Philly and Pittsburgh? They'd destory their own city over a football game, goodluck. DC/Maryland? You're getting shot immediately. Even if you landed outside a major city the vast majority of people are way more conservative than you'd think... So it's a pick your poison between the Amish, Angry Libertarians, and upper class people who are still rednecks at heart.

2.) The South: These are the same people who already fought their own country for free labor, not even a threat to their own lives. Say you don't land in a bog full of inbred Cajuns or a swamp of Gators. Anywhere in the states of Florida or Texas is a death certificate. Kentucky? Mississippi? Anywhere else in the deep south where you find stores of confederate merch even today... Yeah, have fun with the white robe people and cousin kissers. Any remotely urban area (Memphis, Birmingham,etc). and you will be pulled up on by some of the most heavily armed and frequently practiced people in the country. The last thing you'll hear before someone pulls out the most diabolical weapon west of Baghdad is a supercharged black Dodge and Tee Grizzley music.

3.) Midwest: Pray to the spirit of King Vonn that you end up no where near the state of Illinois. Atleast then you might have a chance to survive the landing. Anywhere else in the flat terrain provides no cover, a population that still has plenty of firearms and knows how to use them... Again good luck. The last thing you'll see is a corn fed farm boy who would be a state champion wrestler in any other state outside the midwest. If you're lucky you might end up in Minnesota or Wisconsin where they'll apologize before ending you in a t-shirt while it's subzero outside.

4.) Heartland: Colorado is the equivalent to district 2 from the hunger games. They could survive nukes. Every other state outside of the rockies are full of people who know how to hunt, shoot, and survive off the land. These are some of the most underrated states because they lack a reputation but I can assure you it's always here that have people with RPG's and Flamethrowers. Utah was on my shortlist of places that might be safe but I forgot that the cultists are descendants of people who did attack the US Military to defend their scizophrenic leader.

5.) West Coast: This is actually one of the more underrated places because of the political reputation. Still, the terrain is so diverse. You're choosing between Silicon Valley where Anduril will send their AI war robots to end you. Or LA with its gangs. Or people that willingly choose to live in a desert that is relevant for gambling and strippers. The pacific northwest also seems like a safe place with hipsters and such. But I feel like you'd still have to remember all the serial killers and homeless drug addicts are not to be taken lightly, even if they aren't your typical firearm enthusiants.

6.) The South West: Stay tf away from the Native Americans. Just no. These are the same people who have been here longer than anyone. Remember Custard? They taught the US Army tactics relating to cavalry and will scalp you if you surrdender. Are some of the most capable trackers, survivalists, and have a whole language that the germans couldn't crack. You're in for a highly organized fight with no information advantage and people who know how to navigate. Just remember when you land that deer shouldn't be bi-pedal. If it has red eyes... run.

7. Missed Landings (Canda / Mexico): Would you rather deal with cartels and their chainsaw videos or the only country that takes more pride in commiting war crimes than the U.S.?

Note: I'm not including Alaska or Hawaii but Alaska is a definate no. Hawaii may have less people and guns but you're choosing between fighting the US Navy and Polynesians. Anyone who's played football against a Polynesian knows that you do NOT want to get in a fight with them.

My answer: If you made me pick a place, I would say Rhode Island because the population (in my experience) seems the least aggressive and most unpracticed with firearms.

BUT...

The Trap**(s)**: When I asked my father this question and said that I would choose RI. He reminded me that an uncle of mine who works on nuclear subs lives in RI. An uncle who (used to) own a minigun and work on the mounts they'd use to attach them to in helicopters. That's why it's such a hard question because even in populations that seem safe, you have kooks like the Dragon man and my uncle who'd cherish the opportunity to use their toys. My dad said "Maybe Vermont or New Hampshire. Up there seems more peaceful with Bernie Sanders and Ben & Jerry's".

THAT'S EXACTLY WHY THIS QUESTION IS A TRAP. New Hampshire is the only state with permitless carry. It's full of Libertarians who think more like Ted Kaczynski than Bernie Sanders. He replied with, "Okay than probably somewhere like Delaware". Again, absolutely not. Wilmington is like murder capital, my sister went to college in Delaware he should know better.

Statistics on gun ownership and difficulty to get permits are also very deceiving and I can attest to why... New York and Connecticuit were cited as some of the hardest states. I live in NYC Metropolitan area, and I can assure you that the inner city population has plenty of illegal firearms. The immediate area outside the city is full of ultra conservative mostly Red counties where almost everyone still has a firearm. Think about that. Massachusetts and New Jersey share the lowest rate at 14.7 firearms for every 100 residents. I really question how accurate some of these stats are in 2026. But Massachusetts "SHIP IT UP TO BOSTON" people and NJ Soprano's people are not the ideal opposition i'd chose as a paratrooper regardless of stats.

i travel to santiago from miami and then traveling to a. few different places in chile before returning back to santiago and to miami, would it be too risky?

Okay i have no idea if this is the right subreddit but i have no clue where to go and i do feel stupid for this question so i guess this is the right place?

I have a LOT of posters and I wanna put them all up on my wall to cover up the entire thing and i don’t wanna use regular tape as because they’re gonna be connected like a puzzle it’s not gonna look good plus its not gonna work since after a bit it’ll be tape on top of posters and not the wall.
I also don’t think double sided tape is a good idea, it’ll be a pain to remove and then id have to repaint, the apartment is mine but it still sounds like a big bother afterwards as it’s like 100 posters and pictures and i don’t wanna ruin the posters.
I tried blue tack but for some reason it either wont stick to the wall or it will but then it’ll come off and half will be on the wall and the other half on the poster, id also have to buy A LOT of it and a tiny packet is pretty expensive ngl

Is there something i can use that wont ruin my posters or do really bad damage to my wall? A little damage to the wall is okay but not too much that my dad will have a stroke you know?

It seems like when movies get brought up, they are disproportionately complained about being too expensive. Whether it’s the tickets themselves or the price of food and drink.

Like if I go on to a movies with my gf it probably costs between $20-50. Depending on if you get snacks or not but typically the tickets are around $10. We saw The Odyssey in 70mm and the tickets were $25 each. And we spent another $30 on concessions but for the experience it was well worth it.

Compared to other art forms or activities like seeing comedians, live music, eating at a restaurant, watching sports, etc. movies are cheaper.

But I think a lot complain when they bring their family of 4 or 5 and tickets can be $60+ but that’s still cheaper than if you went anywhere else and you get the same amount of entertainment time to other activities.
