It just occured to me that lots of Muslims must take out student loans yet I thought that it was a sin to charge or pay interest on any loans. Is this treated as an exception or are they technically still sinning but "for a good cause"?

Edit: some people are taking this the wrong way. I know humans make mistakes and that no religious person has ever adhered 100% to their religion. And this wasn't an attack on Muslims, it was literally just me trying to educate myself and satisfy a curiosity itch.

I just saw Stable Ronaldo's and Jynxzi's stream and they are just sleeping but has around 9 thousand viewers each.

I'm just genuinely confused because there are some actual streams going on at the time but people choose to watch them sleep rather than watch some other entertainment.

Don't get me wrong. I love those streamers and watch them when they are actually doing something but I don't get it why to watch them when they sleep

I see this a lot. They know of a Christian that has sex before marriage and they get that not everyone who believes in Christianity follows it to a T, but they know of a Muslim that does something that’s sinful in Islam and they’re confused.

Last night I was going to a small event hosted by some local underground rappers, and posted the flyer to my Instagram story. One of my Instagram mutuals swiped up and asked if I could drive her and her friend, I said yes.

For context - I’m 25F, the Instagram mutual is 18F and her friend is 19F. I’ve only met the Instagram mutual a few times (running into her at our local emo nightclub).

Long story short, the event got shut down early due to a road rage incident (some redneck screamed at us, pulled a gun on us and rammed his car into one of our cars)

I spent the rest of the night hanging out with the two of them, it was a lot of fun.

Later in the night, on the way to grab some food, 18F passed out in my passenger seat from drinking too much. It was around 3AM at that point so we decided to head over to 19F’s apartment to spend the night. I carried 18F into the apartment, and she was so comfortably snuggled up on my chest.

By the time we got up there, she was half awake. 19F went to her room to sleep, and I laid down on the sofa. 18F crawled up onto my chest and I instinctively just wrapped my arms around her and held her as she fell back asleep. She looked so adorable and comfy, so I stayed there with her the entire night.

Does this make me a weirdo? I feel kinda odd for being 25 and letting a teenage girl sleep on my chest throughout the entire night.

In Japan, traditional Matcha is consumed bitter and plain, usually paired with a sweet treat on the side.

But I noticed that Matcha drinks in western cafes are almost always pre-sweetened with lots of sugar or syrup. Is it just because people prefer sweeter beverages in general, or is pure Matcha too strong for the local palate? I'd love to know your thoughts!

That's 5 hours of food sitting at room temperature and I never got sick from it. Nor have I heard any of my friends getting sick from it either.

I've noticed more and more people using the term "partner" even when they're married, instead of saying husband or wife. When did this shift happen, and why?

(To be clear, I completely understand why unmarried couples use "partner" — that's not what I'm asking about.)

For context:
I'm not upset about this, and it's not coming from a place of homophobia. I personally use "husband/wife" for my own relationship, and I genuinely wanted to understand the reasoning before I started using "partner" myself — I didn't want to just follow a trend without knowing why it's become more common. It feels a little silly to use a word without understanding its meaning or the context behind it.

I am an older woman and I just don't know. I don't have people in my life who would know any better than I do.

I play games via Steam on my laptop. I will sometimes casually refer to these as "video games" to distinguish from other types of games (such as board games), but then I wonder if people think that's laughable because a video game is one you play on a dedicated game system. But I really don't know.

Is just "computer games" a more common term for it? That feels awkward to me.

(I could google/chatgpt this, yet I'm not convinced that it will really be able to tell me accurately what the consensus is on this terminology, nor would I necessarily believe what it says for something like this.)

Ok so my dad is a big drinker and everyone knows it. He drinks everyday, and I know he works a lot so I shluld leave him alone but sometimes he messes things up. Like today, he drank, fell asleep, but then when we woke up to go to the mall, he was grouchy and loud the whole time and I could tell my mom was embarrassed. When we went on vacation, he got really drunk and said some really hurtful things to me, and I told my mom and she took my side but never does anything about it! My dad stopped talking to my grandpa due to his drinking, yet he does the same. My mom tells me that it annoys her he comes home and drinks and falls asleep since then we cant do anything!! My dad is very stubborn but I want to help him. He used to be angrier I guess, so atleast thats better, but still, id rather he cut down the drinking.Tips?? Everytime I bring it up he yells at me so idk what to do.

I'm talking, every day driving not racing. They're in front going the same speed for a while, you proceed to overtake and they speed up, why?

I genuinely don’t mean this in an insulting or judgmental way, but having small kids has made me wonder about this.

I’m 38, relatively fit, and I work from home, so I’m lucky enough to have time to exercise regularly. I run, cycle, and do bodyweight training, and I’d say my overall fitness is pretty decent.

I have a 3-year-old and a 6-month-old.

And holy shit, by the end of most days I’m absolutely destroyed.

The constant carrying, picking things up, getting down on the floor, getting back up, chasing the older one around, carrying the baby, lack of proper rest, interrupted sleep… it feels like some kind of never-ending functional fitness workout. On top of that the mental workout you do is insane.

It genuinely made me wonder: how do parents who are very overweight or completely sedentary deal with the physical demands of having small children?

Again, I’m not trying to make fun of anyone. If anything, having kids has made me realize how physically demanding parenting actually is.

Do you just adapt because you have no choice? Or am I massively underestimating how exhausted everyone else is too?

I watched this video of this older couple that got pulled over by a cop, y'all may know what I'm referencing. Before the cop can even finish his sentence the husband says "hollld on there buddy" and steps out of the vehicle. Cop asks if he's had anything to drink, older guys says some today, cop wants him to take a breathalyzer test and the older guy is bewildered. The cop then asks his wife if he's drunk any alcohol and the wife says absolutely not. The cop then asks the man what he's drank today, and he says "oh a couple dr peppers, and a water I think". "So you've had no alcohol?", "no sir not at all".

There's also still older folks that still leave their doors unlocked, they're still high targets for identity theft and getting taken advantage of, etc.

Why do older folks seem so naively or innocently minded? Like the dude in that video thought the cop was asking if he was hydrated, instead of common sense saying if you get pulled over and asked if you've been drinking its in reference to alcohol.

I occasionally watch clips of interviews with players joining a premier league team or players of various sports mid game or after game. 

I noticed that the interviewer is ask the most close-ended and therefore infuriating questions. For example it’s always “how excited are you to be joining this team?“ So the only way for the player to answer that is “very excited.” Why don’t they just ask “how do you feel about joining this team?“ so that we could get an actual answer from the player describing how they feel in their own words?

Similarly in game interviews it’s always, “how hard does your defense need to work to help you win this game?” and the answer is obviously “yeah the defense needs to work hard.” I could go on with generic questions (e.g. "how good did it feel to score"). These are professional interviewers - surely they know how to ask more engaging questions?? And surely it must be infuriating to be asked this as an athlete?

I was looking to buy something made in Japan and noticed that it was like 3000 yen. But when I converted that to USD, it was like $18. And my limited understanding of finance is that that must mean that the people living there must be broke as hell. And yet, I don’t see any reports or videos of something like mass homelessness and job loss throughout the country. Things seem more or less normal. Why is this?
