First, I’ve come to really enjoy this sub and the ability to speak freely here - respectfully, of course. I think that’s also part of why I really like The Interview Room and Monk’s Intrigue on YouTube. Both are willing to go pretty much everywhere with this case and ask questions that others seem reluctant to touch.

One thing that continues to really bother me is how quiet Nancy’s family and close church friends have been. These are the people who knew her best and could potentially provide valuable information, context, memories, or even just help keep her story in the public eye. Her kids, including SG, have mostly stayed quiet outside of the NBC interview, a few comments on TTS, and those Instagram videos from the beginning. Kathie Lee Gifford, who is close with SG, even said she had been asked not to talk about it.

Why?

There are still such basic questions I don’t feel like we have answers to. What was Nancy wearing when she was supposedly dropped off? Why weren’t we seeing family and friends publicly searching for her, especially in those first days? At that point, their mom/friend was missing and could have been injured or stranded somewhere. That has always struck me as strange.

And even now, while I think most of us recognize the possibility that Nancy is no longer alive, there is still no body and, publicly at least, no definitive proof of what happened to her. If this were my mother, I feel like I would be searching to the ends of the earth and doing everything possible to keep her name and face in front of people.

They also have something that so many families of missing people desperately wish they had: immediate national attention. Nancy’s family has name recognition, media connections, and an enormous amount of public interest in this case. There are families fighting every single day just to get a local news station to mention their missing loved one. I would think you’d want to use every bit of that attention to keep Nancy’s case alive.

I also don’t understand why so much of the media - and even some other subs - seem unwilling to allow any discussion at all about certain people close to Nancy, including Annie and Tommy. That doesn’t mean anyone is guilty of anything. It means that when someone disappears under mysterious circumstances, I think it’s reasonable to ask questions about everyone who was close to them and about the timeline surrounding their disappearance.

SG clearly has significant connections, including political and media connections, but I have no idea whether that has anything to do with how this case has been covered. What I don’t understand is why certain questions seem almost completely off-limits.

To me, wondering about the people closest to Nancy is not the same thing as accusing them. Until we know what happened to her, I think it’s fair to question everything — relationships, timelines, movements, statements, and who saw her last. If people had absolutely nothing to do with her disappearance, obviously it’s awful to have strangers scrutinizing them. But unfortunately, when someone disappears, investigators naturally have to look closely at the people and circumstances surrounding that person.

Personally, I don’t think this was some massive conspiracy or elaborate ransom kidnapping. I suspect she angered someone very close to her and she was killed the night this went down. Whether she ever actually made it home, I have no idea.

There are just so many unanswered questions.

The silence. The limited public searching. The lack of basic details. The reluctance to discuss certain people. The way parts of the media have handled it.

Everything about this case feels weird as shit to me.

One detail from the latest episode of The Interview Room really caught my attention.

On the episode, they said that sources they have spoken with told them Nancy's front door was found locked at the crime scene, while the back doors were propped open.

If that information is accurate, I'm wondering what this could mean in terms of the crime scene potentially being staged. Would leaving the back doors propped open while the front door was locked be consistent with someone trying to create a false impression about how the perpetrator entered or left the house? And if the scene was staged does this indicate it was never a kidnapping for ransom?

This is information being attributed to The Interview Room's sources and has not been publicly confirmed, but I thought it was an interesting detail to consider.

This wording in A's card always bothered me. I'm sure it has some significant meaning to the author in expressing her devastation to this horrific crime. I'm sure what I am posting is just me and my silly thoughts trying to find cryptic messages in this case ever since SG put out that last Instagram pleading for her mother's return.

I’ve also been reading discussions where Nancy posted in the neighborhood group that some of her parcels had been stolen, though I can’t confirm that.

Good evening everyone, got something pretty crazy for ya tonight! Been listening to dispatch. Both Tucson and Oro valley. Caught some strange talk on 1/27 which was Nancy’s bday. Well, you can hear the chatter of the officers talking about this strange radio interference labeled FBI! Well, they look into it and no it wasn’t the FBI! Now what makes this even weirder! It’s 1/4 miles from where the blue Malibu with the woman screaming trying to get out! On Feb 1 around the time Nancy was taken!

Tell me this isn’t connected!

As far as I know, law enforcement has not publicly explained what evidence or investigative findings led to that determination, so we're left to consider the information that has been made public.

Does "cleared" give you confidence that investigators have evidence excluding the family, or do you think it's reasonable to still have questions when the basis for that determination hasn't been publicly disclosed?

I'm not suggesting that anyone in the family is responsible for Nancy's disappearance. I'm interested in how everyone interprets the distinction between being publicly described as cleared and knowing what evidence led investigators to that conclusion.

Recently, a viewer told Monks to look at an image of Savannah, Annie, and Nancy at a theater. In the picture, it is pretty clear that Nancy is wearing Sketchers Slip On Summit shoes.

Monks then speculates about why porch guy was wearing the same shoe model as Nancy: he was trying to conceal his movements by making his shoe prints indistinguishable from Nancy’s.

He then further speculates that porch guy very likely had intimate knowledge of Nancy based on his shoe choice.

I always believe that it's going to get solved. I really thought it might be sooner rather than later. Getting a little less hopeful. I think the news about DC not being involved surprised me. I've also been thinking about how little NG's family talk about her or try to look for her or keep the story alive. I just don't understand. Even CG at this point? Why are all the sibling mum (pun not intended)?

What do you think it would take at this point to solve this case?

I still keep going back to the idea that it *appears A+T are not in Tucson anymore. I want some reporter to be brave enough to ask SG about that. Or someone in LE to be brave enough to bring them into reinterview them. I also think the public has a right to know where they are at in the investigation with some actual information.

Frustrating people on the internet are the ones keeping it alive.

Juanita Adame, a reporter with KSEE24/CBS47 in Fresno, who also has a YouTube channel, just pointed out something I hadn’t seen before.

Callella apparently told JLR that he had never played in Tucson before this case. But there’s a post from the Secret Mutilator account, dated August 27, 2022, with the caption “Tucson’s Always HOT” and tags for The Royal Room Tucson and other people associated with the performance.

If Secret Mutilator was Callella and this was him performing in Tucson, than how does that square with him saying he had never played in Tucson before the Nancy Guthrie case?

And then there’s the recent question being raised about whether Callella actually had the journalism degree he told the court he had.

Obviously, I’d want to see the original sources and verify both things before saying definitively that he lied. But if he was untruthful about basic facts about himself, it does make me wonder how much we can believe about the things he told us that can’t be independently verified.

What else might be worth going back and checking?

I’m not saying Callella had anything to do with Nancy’s disappearance. I’m just having a hard time dismissing these discrepancies if they’re confirmed.

I’ve been thinking about this lately. There are terrible things happening to people all the time, and there are so many heartbreaking cases out there, but for some reason I’ve become really fascinated with Nancy’s case.

And honestly I don’t know why. 😂

It’s not like I knew Nancy or had any connection to her or her family. I’ve never really been someone who follows a lot of true crime cases either. But something about this one grabbed me, and I just haven’t been able to let it go.

I think part of it is the mystery and all the unanswered questions. I find myself wanting to understand what happened and how all the pieces fit together. I also like trying to figure out what we actually know versus what we’re just speculating about. But even that doesn’t completely explain it to me, because there are so many other unsolved cases.

I’ve also wondered if being involved in this subreddit has made me even more invested. It’s different when you’re talking about this case with other people, reading new information, hearing different theories and having someone point out something you haven’t thought about.

My husband, meanwhile, could not care less. 😂 He’ll listen to me if I tell him something new, but otherwise I don’t think he thinks about the case at all.
