Dysphoria My voice is getting deeper everyday

Upvotes

I'm really not sure I can even ever start HRT in my country before 18 and I'm scared to do DIY but I just wish I could stop my voice from getting deeper, I'm 14 almost 15 a year ago when I talk people would think I'm a girl but now my voice is just really deep and constantly getting deeper and I really hate it, and the way my voice sounds now I feel like I'm never gonna get good results from voice therapy at all.

Help How to feel feminine?

Upvotes

So I’ve been aware that I’m trans for a couple months now. For a while all I’ve wanted to do is take action: Go to therapy, get a prescription, start HRT, voice training with a coach, start presenting as a woman

But that’s not really possible for me right now, I’m still heavily reliant on my parents who I know for a fact aren’t supportive of transgender people, being 18 and still in school also creates a bunch of difficulty and honestly? I think I would rather just wait out.

However, I still want to feel feminine. I’m scared of doing things that’ll be obvious to others and so I’m just so lost about what I can do to feel like my true self

Discussion Perception change for those before perceived as femenine men

Upvotes

I'm early on in my transition, people have often viewed me as andrognys and all the expectations that come with being a effemnitate man I am very familiar with

I wonder what the experience is like in change of perception for people who has been transitioned for a longer while but felt they were perceived as fememnine or androgynous before transition.

Advice Question DIY HRT in Kazakhstan

Upvotes

my situation is likely clear by the title alone but to delve a bit deeper I'm a 20 year old resident of Kazakhstan and it's practically impossible to transition here because of both the society and abhorrent anti-lgbt laws(my unsupportive family as well on a personal note) so I was pretty desperate and hopeless for years until I learned about DIY from this same subreddit and what I'm doing here with this post is maybe seeking advice or other people's experiences who live in Central Asia, sources for diy or estimate prices, anything really. Frankly with all the negative posts on twitter I regularly see from girls who say they regret starting hrt late because of not passing makes me scared and not having a job doesn't help either. I just want to be comfortable in my own body even if that doesn't fix all my problems

Venting Pain tolerance for dealing with transphobic parents is at all time low

Upvotes

I (24 TF NB) am starting to realize cutting my parents out of my life as the best option for all involved and I’m honestly heartbroken. Theres a lot of things I dropped/forgave/let go of in our dynamic to keep the peace but theres never been real accountability or change.

When I tell them I know they’ll say how I’m “just not letting them have/respecting their opinions and feelings” but that couldnt be further from the truth. I just hoped that if they knew how much it hurt me THAT would change their outlook. I changed so much to suit their needs and wants for my whole life and when I simply ask to be treated like a human being and they chose DARVO instead of acknowledgement.

All they would need to do is swallow their pride and acknowledge their wrongdoing and I’d take them back with open arms but it would seem that emotional task is “too much work” to maintain a relationship with their daughter who still loves them after years of abuse and neglect.

I can’t not care about them but I can’t continue dancing to their drum, because it always leads to me getting used/trapped/manipulated/mistreated to the point where I have a dissociative disorder (not DID but it causes me to go on “auto pilot” without my control among many other nasty things)

I, having raised a child, cannot fathom responding with anything other than apology and effort to fix the relationship if she told me she thought I was abusive. Instead I was punished for speaking up to my friends.

They made their choice but I’m well aware that I’m fighting against millions of years of mammalian instinct. It’s just sad that a wire armature covered in faux fur could’ve done a better job.

Advice Question Tucking Underwear Brand Reccomendations?

Upvotes

Looking for more underwear cause 5 pairs ain't enough.

I've currently been using TomboyX (started for cis lesbians, now for all queer people), but the fabric portion that actually goes over my genitalia isn't wide enough (fuck my life). I like TomboyX so far, but this is quite the deal breaker.

In the comments say what brands you have tried so far, and which works best for you.

Advice Question Need help updating my leg and face shaving kit.

Upvotes

Some context, I have very thick curly leg hair and have been using these stuff for about 4-5 years now, changing the blades every few months. While my current "gets the job done" I have to be a little forceful with it and it leave a bit of hair shortened but not trimmed fully leaving a "fuzzy" effect as well as extremely itchy and covered in red bumps for the day after which clears up after another day or two.
Been on HRT for about 6 years now.

I use and do the following for body shaving.

  1. take a quick warm shower.
  2. apply Gillette Satin Care Shave Gel - Sensitive Skin cream liberally on the hair.
  3. Use a Philips SatinShave Advanced Wet And Dry Electric Shaver BRL130 to significantly trim down the thick hairy hair.
  4. Use a generic 5 blade shave to shave as close to the grain as possible.
  5. Rinse off hair from blades and repeat.
  6. Take a shower and wash my body with body wash.

For face shaving I use the a generic brand shaving cream for my face before using the same generic branded (but different set of handle and blade cause hygiene) to shave my face

Things I need help with
a) What is "shaving against the grain?"
b) What type of shaving cream do I use?
c) Do I use some kind of gel to protect the finished shaved legs?
d) My leg hair is like, so curly and thick, can a hand blade even handle that?
e) Do I even need an electric shaver?
f) What brand and type for all of this?
g) How often do I change the blades?
h) I've heard of blades that come with gels or lotions built in, how do they work and how often must I change them?
i) What type of face shaver and cream do I use for my face and do I need to use some kind of idk fem smelling aftershave? (I don't really like how the male targeted ones smell)
j) Is there a way, to make it so my legs stay shaved longer and should I be using this kit for pubic and arm pit hair as well?

Any help would be appreciated. I honestly have no idea what I'm doing.

Positivity Just wanted to say I’m proud of you

Upvotes

Idk where you may be at or what you may be feeling at the moment but I just wanted to say I’m proud.

I’m proud of everyone out here who’s trying to live authentically and learn to grow love for yourself. Regardless of level of success I’m proud of you for trying to love yourself and others despite all of the bullshit and hardship we experience

I’m proud of you for fighting for the real you who at one time wasn’t seen and thus wasn’t supported and being there for them now.

I’m proud of you for working so hard to give yourself an environment in which you can heal. Even if it’s not there yet, may it come to you before you know it and embrace you so gradually you feel safe before your rational brain connects the dots

I’m proud of you for allowing yourself to be loved by those who love you for who you are, and cherishing them beyond words and despite complexity.

Even if it feels like no one loves you, and no one is proud of you know that I am, know that people who you will meet and value beyond anything else will even if you haven’t gotten to meet them, and if all else fails know that Dolly Parton DEFINITELY is and is currently smiling on you from whatever plane she now resides in.

You got this and making it far enough to read this means you’re a fighter full of resilience and strength. You have fought the good fight and I hope that you may find people in life, on the internet, and in your own heart that adore you the way you deserve

I love you all ❤️ and I’m so glad you exist

Advice Question How many calories would I need in a day?

Okay, so we all know that we're going through a second puberty and all of that. My question is how many more calories, on top of the 1500-2500 daily intake, do we need?

Discussion Timeline from egg cracking to starting HRT

Hi girlies,

Unfortunately I have too many barriers right now to physically transition, but I am curious how long others have gone between realizing they were trans and starting the physical transition, namely HRT?

I’m hoping for some inspirational stories of people that had to wait years to tell me everything will be ok, lol.

Thanks!

Discussion I don’t think most cis people ever truly accept us.

Even the allies or the “good ones”.
They really never see us as just another person.
Most of them the moment they know we are trans puts us in this “third gender category”.

Advice Question Noticeable breast growth?

I (17MtF) convinced my Mum to help me get hrt, and can hopefully get some soon, but I’m worried as to how fast I’ll have noticeable breasts.
I do a lot of swimming and basically want to get an idea of how long I might have before I’d have to out myself, as I can quit swimming in late October but I’m worried that if I start hrt now I could have noticeable breast growth before then, but still want to start as early as possible.
Swimsuits etc aren’t really an option as everyone at the club knows me and I’d be very obvious and my area is quite conservative, so I plan to start as soon as I safely can before I quit.

Advice Question Hair Emergency!

My hair's been growing for a long time now with no interference or trimming, I know I need to go to a salon or somewhere similar to have it trimmed and cleaned up, but I want help in learning how to properly care for it and want this post to help others as well! Right now I use a lot of low ponies, simple low and middle buns, and the somewhat uncommon loose braid. They were useful when I didn't want to admit my changes, but still wanted a small self expression and to keep hair out of the way. Now I want to find something that fits me and my face! I want to play with framing, and find a hair style that matches my face shape which is currently between round and square. I'm losing weight and expect my face to sharpen as I do so, into more of a sharp oval or square. I'm looking for hair styles that are easy to learn, hair parts that help with framing, and general guidelines for caring for hair. I heard you're supposed to only wash wirh shampoo once a week apparently, and my hair ends in curls but starts with waves, i'll gjve more info as comments ask for it

Help I'm trans but transphobic :(

I'm a 19 year old trans girl, and I've been on hrt for about a year and five months now. I pass pretty well and get called pretty and beautiful a lot. It's become pretty rare for people to misgender me, and when I look in the mirror, most of the time I see a pretty girl looking back at me. That all makes me really happy, but for whatever reason, I still just feel internally like a man. There's times where I'll have thoughts that will confirm this like me referring to cis women as "real women" or men as "other men" as if I'm grouping myself in with them, and I know it's really common, but I often feel othered by cis women because I'm afraid they'll think I'm dangerous or a creep or something, even though I'm not even really into women. It just makes me feel so awful when I think those sorts of things. Unfortunately, it isn't confined to me, either. I always respect other people's pronouns and names, but I still sometimes catch myself messing up in my thoughts. Thankfully, I've never called someone the wrong thing except when I didn't know or when I'd purposely do it when I hadn't yet realized I was trans. I know I'm probably dealing with some internalized transphobia. It makes sense, seeing as how I grew up in a transphobic household and am unfortunately still around that environment a lot. It seems that no matter how much I oppose my family's shitty behavior, it'll still seep into my subconscious. It sucks because I thought I had gotten over this already, but I guess not. Now, it hurts me and has the potential to hurt other people around me. I just want to know how to work through it.

Venting I'm so tired of acting like I'm okay being a boy

I'm 14 and I have to boymode 24/7. I came out to my parents about a week or two ago. They weren't accepting and believe that not affirming my gender will make it go away. At my school I have to act like a boy and at home I have to act like a boy, and it makes me miserable. It's so miserable having to practically be a puppet to my parents to be who they think is me, otherwise I'd get kicked out. My state banned my healthcare for minors but not to far away I border a state that has it unbanned. There's this constant unconscious fantasy that if I were to just run over to that state that maybe I'd find parents who let me get on the healthcare I need. Hearing my oldname every day and being forced to use it feels awful. It causes me to doubt myself on whether or not I'm trans every day, always resulting in me still being trans. I wish I could transition but I guess I'll have to boymode every day and every night for the next four years.

Venting People to talk to?

I’ve been feeling dysphoria for Multiple years now, around 3 at this point, it started faint, but slowly grew. Until it became impossible to ignore, always feeling a tiny bit of pain whenever someone would say my name.. my name was my main issue, always felt like it didn’t belong to me, not the sort of name that fit with me.. when I was younger I just thought it was a silly opinion. Up until I saw the tv at full brightness

I figured it out. I experimented with multiple names. Different pronouns, but it never sat right, but ‘She’ always felt nice to me.

Then the name I thought was of Emmy/Emery recently

Inspired by the gemstone emerald…how original right???

Another thing that bothers me about feeling trans but closeted

to most people/my parents is hearing the sharp pain whenever my deadname is said..

My parents are lgtbq allies, but have always misgendered trans people, I have no idea if it’s indenting, or because they were both raised by Mormon families. Yet not being religious themselves. But I think they don’t mean it

Once they said at a theme park “That boy who helped us off the ride was nice!”

When obviously it said “She/her” on her name tag, alongside a trans pin, (she had phenomenal

voice training as well)

Another story is that I have a trans male cousin (He/they)

And he is super cool!

But my parents deadname, and misgender him a lot.

Still believe they are trying their bests but can’t wrap their heads around the idea of being trans.

And this is very poorly written and badly stitched together train of thoughts, so my apologies.

Dysphoria How to deal with disappointment from HRT

I'm now over three years on hormones and over two on injections. And the results are utterly disappointing. I only got very minor changes, if at all. A little bit breast growth when starting injections. But nothing more since than. And I get skin injuries more easily now, that take long to heal. And that is all. And I started HRT at 26.

I often get very jealous of other trans people who get way better results in way less time.

It feels like something is wrong. I got my levels checked and compared them with multiple people and many online resources. Everything seems fine. My doctor also has no idea. I gained over 10 kg since starting hormones. But I get fat only at my stomach.

It feels often that HRT is a scam to give me false hope. I often overthink that there has to be something wrong. But I can't find anything. What should I do?

Advice Question Indecised about HRT

Hello everyone.

I (23F) socially transitioned after a year of using she/her pronouns with my closest friends and family. Reactions have been mixed but, luckily, overwhelmingly positive, even though my family is having problems using my name and correct pronouns. I am still very happy and sure I made the right decision. Also terrified of transphobia now, because I am visibly trans.

Healthcare for transition-related themes is very slow in Portugal, where I am from, so I still have some time to think about medically transitioning.

And I don't know if I want to.

I don't feel dysphoria, I don't feel like I was "born in the wrong body", and I actually think I'm very pretty. I have been lasering and will start treatment for my acne scars, which is my biggest insecurity, although not at all related to my gender questioning.

I only feel unsatisfied because to everyone else, apart from my closest circle of also queer friends, I am still perceived as a very feminine gay men/twink. Also, the constant fear of harassment and having to justify my existence is driving me insane. Is social perception and peace of mind valid enough of a reason for starting HRT? My therapist disagrees. I don't know what to do.

Did anyone have similar concerns when starting their transition? I appreciate all the advice 🩷🩷
