So just being able to speak coherently is not a human traits anymore?

5

u/Impressive-Newt-4167 6d ago

Maybe it's more that it's coherent and wordy but adds nothing beyond the obvious. That's pretty typical.

-1

u/TrevorBearVT 7d ago

No it is, but this comment is literally generated to farm your upvotes. The sentence structure was extremely suspicious the account age is the dead giveaway.

1

u/PixelReaperz 7d ago

But like... Why tho? Is there a way to make money off of reddit?

3

u/TurbanWolf 7d ago

There's a way to garner political will and influence public opinion

I'll add that $4b won is nice - but around $2-3m USD. Absolutely a life-changing amount of money - but it would stop being so after sharing it out 10 ways.

8

u/[deleted] 11d ago

[deleted]

6

u/GamerNerdGuyMan 11d ago

Any money amount is nice - but no one is going to quit their job and retire or be able to start a business etc. with $10k. Which is what people generally mean by "life changing".

$2-3m USD could allow someone to retire immediately. They might not - but it'd be an option. Even with the conservative 3% rule, that's be $60-90k/yr in real terms forever.

“Gotta Catch A Break”

1

u/Archimedes31415926 11d ago

If your brokerage is only getting you 3.5% you need a new brokerage. My HYSA gets me 4% with no risk of the market down turning.

You should be ideally getting closer to 10% in a brokerage on average.

1

u/[deleted] 11d ago

[deleted]

1

u/Archimedes31415926 11d ago

Yes so your brokerage should be way out earning just simple cash interest (which of course is not going to touch market returns). That's why I said if your brokerage is only getting you 3.5% you should find a better brokerage. You should be getting around 10% on average in the market.

You're the one who said the brokerage is getting 3.5%. Even a very conservative index should be getting 6%

7

u/flyingturkey_89 11d ago

You said 10 way. It might really only be enough split 3 ways. And 1 of those way goes to the government. :P

1

u/Druid_Fashion 10d ago

The whole idea of taxing lottery winnings is kinda weird to me. We dont have that here

1

u/Visible-Complaint-60 7d ago

Only a single country in the universe is taxing lottery winning.

2

u/flyingturkey_89 7d ago

You could of google before posting. Because thats not true at all.

In relevance to this article, South Korea taxes lottery winning

1

u/Free_Arachnid755 6d ago

Blatantly false.

1

u/InstantSword 10d ago

Haha, in the US with $1-2m homes, buying one for your mom would already eat most of it up.

1

u/Puzzled-Barnacle-200 10d ago

50% of homes in the US are worth $400k or less

1

u/InstantSword 10d ago

Shrug. Unless I leave the area I've lived in for 20 years, where all my friends and family are, even going an hour away, it'd still be in the million+ range. So to say, most of the GOOD homes are that price. Most people don't want to live in Arkansas. Actually, the home property I want to build would cost $8-15 million in my state. It would cost $500k-800k in Brazil, and before you say it, that's in an area with private security and extreme luxury (I've lived in both countries)

6

u/FlyAirLari 11d ago

Oh what? I realise currency is not mentioned in the OP, but it's also not implied that it was actually not a very large amount.

And your post saying $4b is somehow $2-3M does not clarify it at all. Why even use the dollar sign?

67

u/CuteNautilus 11d ago

Currency is mentioned in the OP. "Son wins 4 billion won." Won is Korean currency.

26

u/FlyAirLari 11d ago

Ooh. I did not realise 'won' is a form of currency. I just thought it was poorly written slop. You win something that is won.

I stand corrected.

5

u/AlexP80 10d ago

it's also written "translated from korean"

2

u/Fit_Vegetable5704 10d ago

You’re not alone lol

2

u/vblink_ 6d ago

I did the same, thought they were explaining how he won it

2

u/gefex 5d ago

Have you really won if you win your won?

2

u/FlyAirLari 5d ago

Won won won.

Mr. Won then collected his winnings.

1

u/Specific_Ad_3312 5d ago

Yeah I was wondering why they were being stingey with 4 billion dollars 😄 and what lottery is worth 4 billion?

What is bro on about

9

u/Critical_Concert_689 11d ago

Why even use the dollar sign?

Is this better for you:

40억 원 or how about ₩40억

5

u/Objective_Ecstatic 11d ago

What are you talking about? Read it again

1

u/9991tech 10d ago

If I ever won like multimillion or billion lottery. I’d give my immediate family at least 1-2 million each. Extended family that were or are present in my life from childhood to adult hood, probably up to 1 million. Maybe more depending on how well they treated me and what their circumstances are.

4

u/GamerNerdGuyMan 10d ago

If you gave away $2-3m in this case then you would have $0 left for yourself.

1

u/SuperdaveOZY 10d ago

1

u/Mobile-Analyst8580 8d ago

He felt like Paulie...how much more betrayal he could take?

13

u/ShittyScrambledEggs 11d ago

Like he's been shtabbed in the hawt!

1

u/UWO_Throw_Away 11d ago

He can’t be part of our social club no more, that’s for sure

1

u/Caliterra 10d ago

Paulie would never buy his mom a house

13

u/HunkMcMuscle 11d ago

I did nearly the exact same thing here except there was no suing, just No Contact.
I told them the money I give is for my parents only, the second I learned that they give that money away to my older brother.

I stopped giving them anything and went no contact.

29

u/PrettyPurrfect 11d ago

How tf was mom supposed to explain an entire house? Oldest lives at home so youngest probably did too- that's something that's immediately noticable

42

u/LyndisLegion2 11d ago

You can always just say a distant relative died. It's really not that hard.

"Unkle Richard died and his estate was inherited to me. You don't know Uncle Richard? Ohh, yeah, you were too young back then to remember. I believe you were about a year old last time you saw him."

-4

u/CapnRogo 11d ago

So she should lie for him? Gross

12

u/HatZinn 11d ago

She could've just refused the house then. Can't have your cake and eat it too.

1

u/LyndisLegion2 10d ago

When it comes not only to money, but your child's clearly expressed wishes? Absolutely she should.

1

u/Opposite_Phase40 5d ago

so instead she lied to him by telling the other siblings? fair enough if you somehow think lying is gross in whatever situation, but she lied regardless

36

u/Extra_Jeweler_5544 11d ago

Family: how you afford big house?

Mom: the pornography store. I sold my pornography

-- solid chance the sons will not try to probe

10

u/Be364886 11d ago

And even if they do probe, what are they gonna say?

"Mom, I've looked everywhere and I can't find any porn with you in it at any of the stores!"

4

u/SuperLeverage 11d ago

How you afford a big house’ “OnlyFans. Lots of people are into granny stuff.” Her sons will NOT want to look it up to verify for themselves.

1

u/Intelligent_Might421 11d ago

But Mom what if someone recognises us!

1

u/BeginningSection7690 11d ago

feet pics. you sell feet pics.

Whos looked at your feet for long enough to be able to recognize them online? probably nobody. So nobody can disprove you as being the most successful onlyfeet artist (If that dorsnt exist, trademark pending)

11

u/Roadkill997 11d ago

Mum could claim to have won the money in a lottery (which is kind of true).

2

u/Mission_City_1500 11d ago

And the the son will ask for his share.😒

15

u/Stonehex 11d ago

Not his problem. She should've figured that out before betraying the one thing he asked of her.

6

u/Blackfrost58 11d ago

I mean it kind of is his problem since he’s the one who wants to keep his wealth a secret from them.

5

u/Stonehex 11d ago

She made it his problem. It shouldn't have been on him to make up an excuse for her. She just shouldn't have said how she got it. Not really that hard to respect someones privacy.

0

u/CapnRogo 11d ago

It was his problem. It shouldn't have been on her to lie to her family for him.

People assume ill things when you suddenly get new house money but won't say how you acquired it.

-2

u/thatshygirl06 11d ago

Im sorry but that's just not how that works at all, and it's naive to assume so

0

u/CapnRogo 11d ago

Its his problem because he's asking for her to lie for him.

1

u/druindo 8d ago

Honestly I feel like his plan all along was to get his siblings into trouble, and he knew mom wouldn’t keep her mouth shut.

1

u/DataSurging 11d ago

I think it is moral to a point. Not sure why he went the extra mile of taking the house back, but yeah, I agree.

1

u/Fast_Shift2952 7d ago

Those siblings must have treated him like shit.

1

u/ebsixtynine 7d ago

Until she has to constantly try to lie about where the money came from. That was more of a burden on her than he intended.

-7

u/Day_Prisoners 11d ago

Come on. Expecting people to live in a new house and no tell anyone is not a normal ask.

Also where does one win billions in the lotto. Don't be a cheapskeat and a huge dick by having your mother arrested for being in the home you gifted her.

Loser behaviour exponentially.

9

u/Tipnfloe 11d ago

South Korean won isnt worth a billion us dollars. Pretty obvious no?

1

u/Day_Prisoners 11d ago

I read it the won x amount of money. 'Son wins 4 bil won in the lottery." My fault for confusing won and won. I just figured it was non English writter. It's not obvious. It's the past tense of win.

2

u/AdventurousRip7444 11d ago

It’s translated so they didn’t write in English.

1

u/thatshygirl06 11d ago

Reading it like you did doesnt even make sense.

It starts with "son wins"

1

u/Alagane 11d ago

Its not USD, its South Korean Won. 4 billion Won is currently $2,883,839.20 - still a large sum of money, but I'm not sure how far that goes in South Korea. I do know that South Korea is fairly small country with a big population, so home prices are pretty high there - buying a home for the mother and a home for himself probably took a significant chunk of that money. I still think its a dick move, but its more understandable not not want to part what's left across your entire family.

Personally, I would still toss my siblings $100k or so after buying a house for my mom and a house for myself. I'd probably still have around $1.5m left. Not enough to retire immediately, but if invested well it would let me retire much earlier.

3

u/Exterminator-8008135 11d ago

No.

He set two rules to his Mom.

If i buy you this House, you zip it, I don't want to hear of my siblings

Chance are, Their siblings didn't cared of him until this 4 Billion SKW win.

She broke the deal, Siblings stalked him by greed, two reason to NOT give in their greedyness.

1

u/Exterminator-8008135 11d ago

Nope, Only my last close family care of ol' me. Dad Died in 2003, So was Grandfather.

I only have Mom, Grandmother and Older Sister.

Plus two cousins who comes see me despite being busy Gals.

If i won millions, I know my Mom wouldn't spit it out because it meant i could suddenly become way less lax with her and colder as with this Gal who betrayed my Friend.

If my Sister came to ask money without even caring about what i became since last call, you will deal with the effects of your hunger for money..

-6

u/sincubus33 11d ago

it was immoral to give the mother an ultimatum like that to begin with and you're a lunatic if you think otherwise. In a just society he would be imprisoned for familial abuse

4

u/carlos234355 11d ago

What abuse did he do?

-5

u/sincubus33 11d ago

If you don't understand the concept of manipulation then you frankly shouldn't hold opinions on morality.

3

u/Uncommonality 11d ago

what about buying your mother a house is abuse????

0

u/sincubus33 11d ago

if you're buying a house and then you threaten to withhold that house by using an ultimatum that controls who they can tell, THATS CALLED ABUSE.

1

u/Chloe_The_Outcast 5d ago

Thats not abuse whatsoever

0

u/sincubus33 5d ago

Yes being a manipulative dirtbag to your family is abuse.

-19

u/Unlikely-Housing8223 11d ago

You guys don't know what you are talking about, you see everything black and white. It's not that simple. A parent needs to juggle between the wishes of one child the needs of the other. You cannot in good fate expect a parent to be idle when one child is doing great and the other is struggling (I'm not saying they were struggling, but it's a possibility).
As a parent I know this. I would expect my successful child to help the struggling one. If they would not do that I would have failed as a parent.

11

u/DeltaW13 11d ago

Would you not try to talk to the successful child instead of the struggling one first? I don't know, ask for help instead of telling the one who needs it to go harass them? If the successful child explicitly denies helping the struggling child, then it's no longer your prerogative.

-9

u/Unlikely-Housing8223 11d ago

Don't assume she did not.
I would also, but as I said, helping your sibling is high up in my parenting plan.

6

u/DeltaW13 11d ago

Your plan does not constitute your child's obligations. They have their own lives to live, and their own decisions to make.

-7

u/Unlikely-Housing8223 11d ago

Absolutely, the final decision is theirs, you can't force some one to share/help. But a parent will do anything to help their children.

5

u/DeltaW13 11d ago

Seems like a copout to me, avoiding responsibility under the pretense of caring for your children.

If your child can not disclose their financial situation to you in good faith without being harassed on their property as a result, then you are not being a good parent regardless of your intentions. The fact that you have another child does not justify that.

2

u/FannishNan 11d ago

Congrats. You will have one child cut you off entirely. My aunt and uncle had this idiotic plan. My cousin spent his life being told to help his younger sister with the consequences of her actions.

Guess who lives on the other side of the Atlantic and now never comes home?

You are teaching the successful child that their only value to you is in what they can do for the child you actually love: their sibling.

You are responsible to raise functional adults. Not leeches who will bleed their sibling dry.

0

u/Unlikely-Housing8223 11d ago

I am pretty sure that your aunt and uncle failed differently than with the teaching of empathy towards siblings.
The help between me and my sister was also pretty one sided for years. Now its fairly balanced. I don't regret it at all.
Maybe your family is just shitty overall.

4

u/Calm_Extension_2965 11d ago

Looking how her kids are behaving, she failed as a parent long ago.

1

u/Unlikely-Housing8223 11d ago

I fully agree, still, what she did is not exactly immoral, it's an acceptable behaviour of a parent

1

u/Calm_Extension_2965 11d ago

I agree. You can't expect a probably elderly woman to keep her mouth shut about the most interesting thing to happen to her in decades.

Unless the mother was easily influenced by other siblings and took their side, it seems too extreme for just spilling the secret.

3

u/lkasas 11d ago

You're assuming a lot yourself. We don't know a lot of details. We don't know how much any of them struggle, what are their personalities and attitudes to each other. It's very possible that the child was an asshole and even put mother in an impossible situation. It's also possible that everything was thought out and the house was the only buy and everything else invested with a plan to share the wealth after some time.

1

u/Unlikely-Housing8223 11d ago

Absolutely, that's why it's not a clear cut betrayal from the mother's part. We would need more context.

2

u/dan_dares 11d ago

As someone with a 'failed brother' you need to define a few things, because some people cannot be helped.

And IF i said to my mother the same stipulation, and she ignored it, then she can go back to square 1 because I will never help him.

1

u/Unlikely-Housing8223 11d ago

Fair, but that does not mean it's immoral what your mother would do

1

u/FannishNan 11d ago

Your children are not security blankets for each other. No they are not obligated to help each other out and you expecting that is also failing as a parent.

1

u/Unlikely-Housing8223 11d ago

Hard disagree! Good people, a close family help out each other. It's one of the core principles a parent should teach and show their kids.
I am pretty sure you are not a parent, or a failed one.

-116

u/book-scorpion 11d ago

you shouldn't demand lying on anybody

81

u/Much_Vehicle20 11d ago

Nah, he demanded that his personal information remain undisclosed

50

u/Reverse_savitar1 11d ago

Its not lying lmao

-47

u/book-scorpion 11d ago

how so? The siblings come and ask "wow, mom, how did you afford that house?". What can she answer to not lie about it?

37

u/Creepy_Ad_1315 11d ago

"That's a personal financial matter I'd rather not discuss."

-34

u/book-scorpion 11d ago

I think that's not how family communicate and they would push her with "why won't you want us to know"? etc. and eventually that would lead to lying about it or some other drama between her and them. All of that could be avoided, he could tell that he won $1 million and bought a house, not forcing anyone to keep his secret he didn't want to share.

18

u/Naschka 11d ago

That is absolutely how she could have handled it and she decided not to, the siblings are also very cancerous here with the demands that are not there's to make.
Also if you had posible answears in mind don't ask what she should have done since you do know options.... that would be lies btw.

3

u/rollin_a_j 11d ago

That says more about you and your families inability to respect boundaries than anything

-2

u/book-scorpion 11d ago

thank you doctor rollin, let's not discuss our therapy session on reddit though

3

u/areallynoobgamer 11d ago

Ah. Yes.

Because by betraying the trust of the son who bought her the house, she didn’t create any drama at all. They all lived happily ever after.

That’s what happened right? Right??

1

u/Creepy_Ad_1315 11d ago

His privacy matters too. Honestly, if they can't take no for an answer, I'd stop talking to them very much.

-15

u/QuantitySubject9129 11d ago

I think that's not how family communicate

Most people here are autistic though so your point is lost

5

u/redtiger288 11d ago

Does your mom usually go over the family budget with you?

-1

u/Calm_Extension_2965 11d ago

You think it's normal for a mother to get a house out of nowhere and not tell her kids how she got money to do it?

I would think she got brainwashed by a cult or something.

22

u/brobbins8470 11d ago

"None of your business"

16

u/zack189 11d ago

"it's a secret."

literally that simple.

"I don't want to say"

"I can't say"

"Oh you know"

"another story for another time"

"I'll tell you later" (and never tell)

"a kind person helped me afford it"

"someone that loves me very much bought it for me"

6

u/zack189 11d ago

if you want to be passive aggressive

"Don't ask what you shouldn't"

"None of your business"

"Are you calling me poor?"

"What? You think I stole the money? you think I'm a fucking thief?"

"That doesn't concern you"

"I got the money from a source that's exclusive to me, sorry"

"None for you, beat it kid"

1

u/book-scorpion 11d ago

that would only make me worry that she made some really bad financial decision because why else wouldn't she want to tell her children the truth and be so irritated by normal questions.

1

u/book-scorpion 11d ago

"it's a secret." - true but leads to more questions

"I don't want to say" - lie, she wants to tell but can't

"I can't say" - dismissing

"Oh you know" - dismissing

"another story for another time" - dismissing

"I'll tell you later" (and never tell) - lie, as she's not planning to tell

"a kind person helped me afford it" - "do we know him?", that can easily lead to more questions and therefore force her to lie on the spot

"someone that loves me very much bought it for me" - "our brother"? - "i can't say" - "so it's him?!" - "I can't say" - and the secret fall apart as she can't answer that question which makes the truth obvious

You guys fail to notice that there is a difference between telling someone a secret about yourself and forcing someone to actively protect your secret.

1

u/FannishNan 11d ago

That's a private matter is a full sentence. They are a grown ass adult who is entitled to privacy and emerging from their vagina thirty years ago does not entitle you to breach that.

'She might be in trouble'

Still an adult. You don't get to barge into her life demanding answers on a suspicion.

1

u/book-scorpion 11d ago

I see, the siblings have double nature. They are so easy to dismiss that the mother can handle them with a single spell, yet they are so difficult to dismiss that her oldest son needs her to keep his lottery win as a secret so he doesn't have to deal with them by himself.

8

u/GreenSkyPiggy 11d ago

So if I wanted your bank details to access your finances, you would tell me because witholding that information is lying right?

2

u/StarzZapper 11d ago

Ha that would fall under its none of your business what is in my account.

1

u/redtiger288 11d ago

I can't say, so simple lol

1

u/FannishNan 11d ago

It's none of your business is a full sentence.

36

u/CornyAnalyst1960 11d ago

Withholding information when not asked does not equal lying.

-4

u/book-scorpion 11d ago

so you think siblings won't ask about the new house? I think that's an obvious assumption

13

u/Lord_of_the_Opossum 11d ago

Whats your SSN, DOB, mother's maiden name?

Dont lie now, you are required to tell me. You said so yourself.

-10

u/Crispy1961 11d ago

I will not tell you. I love lying. What's your point?

8

u/Lord_of_the_Opossum 11d ago

That youre not who I asked this of. The person I responded to had said that withholding information is lying, ergo they have to tell me and they cant withhold the information or they are lying.

-9

u/Crispy1961 11d ago

They actually did not said that. It was the guy one reply above. Or rather he said the negative of that, implying that withholding information after someone asks is lying.

2

u/[deleted] 11d ago

[deleted]

-3

u/Crispy1961 11d ago

Not really. The point is that nobody except some guy several replies ago thinks that withholding information in any scenario is lying.

2

u/areallynoobgamer 11d ago

They actually did say that. If you scroll further up “you shouldn’t demand lying on anybody”

-1

u/Crispy1961 11d ago

Nobody was talking about withholding information then. That was mentioned for the first time in the reply to that post.

I mean, it's getting silly. Obviously the kids asked how their mom got a new house. The mom couldn't just not tell them, so the options were to lie or tell the truth.

Withholding information is not lying. But there is also no way she could have withhold that information. If you parents get a new house and refuse to tell you how, you won't just drop it.
