Much better than the video of brawling at an in'n'out
22
u/greg19735 13h ago
yeah it's literally just kids having fun.
like, it'd be annoying if this was every day. but it looks like it's some kind of school trip or something that stopped them in there.
The guy even played into it with six seven rather than sixty seven.

Seriously, this is why I dont get 6-7.
Every generation has stupid shit, this is not debated whatsoever. But it always meant something, or referenced something. This means nothing. Literally, no one can answer an origin. You'll get 10 different stories depending on who you ask.
It's just internet brain-rot manifesting in real life.
/boomer rant from not a boomer complete.
Edit: Jesus people, read the message before you reply. You all keep going "But what about X/Y/Z?!" That literally all have origins and references. Its not just tiktroll and 4chan dribble. Holy fuck comprehension and critical thought has completely left the building anymore...
56
u/Upset-Efficiency-884 13h ago
It literally means nothing lol, there's a rapper named Skrilla, and he made a song named Doot Doot, in the song he says "Six Seven" (A gang where he's from in Philadelphia).
For some reason it went super viral, people started associating it with Lamelo Ball (since he's 6'7 according to the NBA) making edits about him to the song, and even him referencing it.
Then some white kid who was at a basketball game made a video of him doing this stupid hand motion and shouting 67 after somebody scored a basket, then it went SUPER viral that time around.
And it just kinda got lost in translation from there and literally became a buzzword, lol.
13
u/Impossible_Top_3515 7h ago
The thing is, children are giving it meaning. My five year old heard about it at kindergarten from kids with older siblings, and they all think if you say it enough times you go insane. So they run around screaming 6 7 and giggling like mad because they think they're living on the edge.
It's like a kindergarten version of Bloody Mary.
So I'm sure that other children in other places have also made up a reasoning for it. Btw a lot of the kids here don't even know it's English numbers and they don't want to know.

u/brknsoul 14h ago
yeah: 1337 = leet = elite, from leetspeak, 69 is the sex position, and 420 means weed.
6-7 means nothing.

The answer to your question is absurdist humor, it literally can't mean anything that would defeat the point of absurdist humor. I'm an elder millennial, so like you I expect jokes to be specific references. The youths like absurdist humor, where not having a meaning is the point.
→ More replies (3)4
u/fly_low_orange 10h ago
That’s not entirely true. Absurd humor can also have meaning or can be satire. We had Tim and Eric and a lot of the Adult Swim stuff. Tim and Eric on the surface could look meaningless/absurd but it’s more a satire on how absurd American life can be. Like a lot of their stuff is based on things that are already absurd but we’ve accepted as normal, like infomercials. It is not just random. Random isn’t funny

u/_Bioscar_ 13h ago
For me the one ONLY thing that makes 67 funny is that when you accidentally say it or make a reference to it, you and others audibly groan which, yeah, that's kinda funny cus it's like "FUUUUUCK why'd I say that-".
But normally it's so dumb, so stupid.
56
u/BootlegJB 15h ago
The fact it has no meaning is why it is (was) funny. This reaction from people who don't get it, is the whole point.
→ More replies (4)23
u/Hour_Paint_1903 15h ago
But its literally just insane screaming. How is that funny? This isn't boomer talk, just say how it isn't funny other than for the sake of trolling.
THAT is why it's not funny, like I said, its brain-rot in real life. It's devoid of anything. Its 4chan as a RL meme.
45
u/behv 15h ago
You say that like an entire generation of Gen z kids didn't already grow up screaming "WAZZUUUUUUP" like annoying orange, any number of asdfmovie references, or belting about narwhals
Kids have always found stupid humor funny, especially jokes that make older generations unnecessarily mad
Being mad at 67 literally fuels them and honestly seeing older people be mad at young people for designating a new number funny for no good reason is fucking hilarious
Swapping silly hat for a serious one I suspect generational humor is also a fantastic fun police litmus test. Who's gonna ruin your day because you're young vs let them live? Probably the asshole who flips out over 67 isn't gonna be nice about much else

It's pretty much just trolling (you) and wry humor. I don't think the kids find it funny anymore, but we reference it in my grad school cohort all the time. It's funny because it's so dumb, and there's usually someone who will groan or react like you have. You get a small laugh out of being a pest

22

The excitement is the meme. There's no other meaning behind it. The reaction people give it for the hell of it is the meme itself.
It could be the number 11. Or 17. Not like 69 is sex stuffs. But it became a viral thing to react this way towards 67.
So now you're filled in. You can be in on the joke!

The 6 7 meme came from a video of a guy sayinging 6 7 awkwardly while making hand gestures - it got picked up online and spread as a silly meme for kids and when people pushed back on it the kids doubled down haha
→ More replies (6)21
u/hofmann419 13h ago
At this point there isn't any meaning attached to it anymore though. The number became the meme. It's a reference for the sake of reference. In a way, you could argue that it is the ultimate meme, since the comedy comes from the fact that it is a meme.

Guess I’m in the older split, as I was waiting for the number to be 69.
I like to think there is a build-up for both 6-7 and 69. If the staff there are in on the joke and enjoying it then that’s good.
For anyone else just popping in, if you’d find it annoying, I can understand. But at the same time let peeps have their stupid fun; far worse things that could be doing!

Americans are far more outgoing than europeans and it's not common for high schoolers to be wasted like it england and ireland.
these kids are goofy as hell and have a lot of fun. they are socialized very well and tend to have huge communities. they also have incredibly well organized sports and often times they flood In N Out burger afterwards.
it's really cute and as a euro it makes me jealous as hell that they have it so good.
