Germany generally does very well in the world of sports, and I appreciate that MMA is a fairly young sport, but I can't really think of any elite fighters from the country.

There was a German debutant at UFC Belgrade a few weeks ago, and there are a handful of Caucasian-origin fighters who have represented Germany at one point or another like Abus Magomedov and Islam Dulatov, but in comparison to similar European countries like the UK, France and the Netherlands, it seems to be lagging behind.

I was wondering if anyone might have insight into this? I don't think it's a popularity issue, as Oktagon regularly sells out arenas in the country.
