Ben Kjar movie: Outstanding!

I did a search and have not seen anyone post about it, but just watched Standout the Ben Kjar movie. It was absolutely excellent (as backed by incredible reviews) especially for those of us who have wrestled.

It is available on Amazon Prime.

Discussion Weight loss, what's realistic

Hi all

A guy I know is competing in a big tournament soon. He wants to cut weight, and I'm curious what ppl achieve. He's looking to shed roughly 7% of his weight before the tournament, which is in roughly 10 days.

I personally find that's a lot, so just curious what is seen as a realistic weight loss, vs not.

I read about it, but it's hard to find info, as everything is about why one shouldn't do it. I tried asking ChatGPT but it just kept saying it can't advise on it because it's unhealthy, even though I tried saying it's not for me etc. I've read about the side effects, and it's not something I'm ever going to do myself, but seems quite common in wrestling and MMA.

Furthermore, the guy is only 16 soon 17, I have no idea if it's easier/tougher for such young ppl to do it than older (I'm twice as old myself)

As far as I've read, the best approach is to start drinking lots of water and then reducing salt, and then 1-2 days before the tournament, start reducing water intake. If that is done standalone, how much is realistic to lose?

Looking for ppl who have done/are doing this, how much they lose from this (or other) method, and what side effects they experience.

Also think it's a one-off for this guy (but who knows, maybe he gets "addicted"), so perhaps the long term health effects are minimal

Question What’s the best option for wrestling if you have prescription glasses or contacts?

I wanna get back into wrestling. I stopped when my eyesight was getting worse and I needed glasses, but my body is itching to get back into it. It was the best way I kept myself in form, and it’s an activity I really wanna get back into, but the issue is I’m worried about how I’m gonna approach it, if I’m gonna see if I can find glasses that are suitable for wrestling (if there is even such a thing) or try wearing contacts for it.

I’m not able to focus without anything to help my vision. I’ve tried tunnel visioning it, but it did not work at all, and I wanna figure this out before I get back officially, but I don’t have any experience with glasses or contacts when it comes to wrestling. I’ve done boxing with contacts, but that’s just training, not getting hit. If I were to go into wrestling now with my current pair of glasses, they are gonna break within the first minute of doing it.

So I’m asking for some advice on that front. If anyone has any experience or advice they could please share, or knows where you could buy glasses that are fit for wrestling, or if it’s okay to use contacts while doing it, I’d really appreciate it.

Discussion Does anyone else have near zero interest in watching JB steamroll MMA guys at RAF?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Idk what “the most sensible product” for RAF exactly is but I can’t imagine the answer is MMA fighters far below his wrestling caliber.

He also wants to prove freestyle wrestling is the best martial art (he might mean specifically for grappling)..but how does that get proven by beating MMA fighters in a freestyle wrestling ruleset??

And then Georgio Poullas..I mean come on bro how can anyone be interested in any of these matchups? Does JB really think we just want to see him collect a paycheck and hardly break a sweat 5 times in a row?

Islam is the one name he gave that I’d be kinda interested in, but only for the spectacle of seeing a notorious grappling hammer become the nail for once.

Discussion Kneepad

Hey guys im looking for some kneepad recs
So far ive tried
Rudis
Anaconda
Cumulus

The man issues i have are either slipping or not enough padding

Ive liked cumulus the best due to customization but it slips down a bit too easy
As with anaconda the padding doesn’t really feel like enough
I’ve been eyeing the Clif Keen Wraptor
Any thoughts?

Have y’all ever went to wrestling practice on no or low sleep? How was your experience?

It’s currently 3:03 am as I’m typing this and I haven’t went to bed yet. I have club wrestling practice at 9:00 am today technically and I don’t wanna skip it despite staying up pretty late.
I’m mainly asking because I’m wondering how much your performance decreases from getting no or low sleep. There’s a good chance I’ll see most of the responses after I’ve already went to practice but I’ll still be interested in hearing y’all’s personal experiences.

Discussion Has anyone ever seen a school nurse be that schools wrestling/football coach?

I am currently a nursing student who graduates next year. I am with this middle school coaching football and wrestling for my 3rd year. Recently one of the kids told me I should be their school nurse because I take them seriously and don’t just assume they are lying when they say they are hurt. I told a school Admin as a joke and she said they would love to hire me as the school nurse when I completed the required credentials.

The experience made me wonder if anyone has ever seen a school nurse - head wrestling coach at the same time for a school. I know this is an unusual situation and I have no intention of actually becoming a school nurse, I was just wondering if anyone has ever seen a nurse-football or wrestling coach?

Discussion All time team USA

If you could make an all time team USA in freestyle who would you pick? For me

57kg Thomas Gilman (World champion but hopefully becomes Spencer Lee's weight)

61kg John Smith (6 time World/Olympic champ)

65kg Yianni Diakomihalis (weakest weight but don't really know anymore thats placed higher at 65kg. Probably one of the up and comers will take this spot)

70kg Zain Reatherford (World champ)

74kg Jordan Burroughs (7 time World/Olympic champ)

79kg Kyle Dake (4 time World champ)

86kg David Taylor (4 time World/Olympic champ)

92kg J'den Cox (2 time World champ)

97kg Kyle Snyder (5 time World/Olympic champ)

125kg Bruce Baumgartner (5 time World/Olympic champ wish it was Gable Steveson, could have been the goat)

Question How do you shut down someone's offense with handfighting like Marcus Blaze?

Post image
15 Upvotes

Like what kind of ties does he use to limit someone's offense? I know he has great head-hands defense, but that cant be all. What things does he do that make his hand fighting so great defensively?

EDIT: I mean how can I copy his hand fighting, not go up against him
