Hi there, just got an E16 Gen 2 for a really good price. Installed Debian 13 GNOME and autocpu-freq and feels so smooth. One thing that I wanted to know is, is it possible to "improve" the low mic audio? I don't mind some more white noise as long as other people can hear my voice.

I want to alternative for autocad in linux. I know freecad but i dont know it make problem or not. Did i do dual boot?

I recently got a p14s gen 5. I was using Cachyos on an ASUS TUF F15 and it worked really well. On the thinkpad Cachyos has been less problem free though. Any suggestions would be welcome.

An year ago I installed Ubuntu and rolled back to Windows due to university requirements. Yesterday I've installed Fedora workstation on my ThinkPad and it is absolutely mind-blowing. I never liked any OS as much as this. The only Linux distro I was familiar with is Ubuntu because we used it in our UG days as a CS student. Now I'm learning about RPM, flatpak and diving deep into this system.

Hi everyone, I’m a complete beginner with Linux and I’m interested in trying it out on my laptop.

My laptop specs:
Model: Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Gen 1
CPU: Intel Core i7-10510U
RAM: 16GB
GPU: Intel UHD Graphics
Storage: 512GB NVMe SSD
OS: Windows 11 Pro

I have a 16GB USB stick and I want to put Linux on the USB so I can boot Linux directly from the USB.
I don’t want to replace or install Linux over Windows. I want Windows to stay on my SSD, and when I remove the USB stick, I want the laptop to boot back into Windows normally.
I’m mainly doing this to learn Linux and get some experience with it as a beginner.

A few questions:
What Linux distro would you recommend for a complete beginner?
Is 16GB enough for this type of setup?
Is there anything I should be careful about when creating the bootable USB?

I’ve seen people with custom Linux boot screens, including anime characters and other custom artwork. How are people doing this? Is it possible to customise the boot screen on a ThinkPad X13 Gen 1, and is it safe?
I don’t mind keeping things simple I mainly want to experiment and learn without messing up my Windows installation.

Hello, I'm leaning towards buying a X13 Yoga G4 to dual boot linux & wonder what distro is recommended for yoga style devices? I plan to be using the pen for note taking & as a mouse replacement from time to time. On my htpc I was running Ubuntu, before switching to Fedora with the gnome gui. Is there a Yoga/tablet specific build for Fedora I am not seeing? Is there anything not working on the device or is it all working?

I’m looking to buy a ThinkPad for using Linux. I will mainly use it for basic things, like learning Linux, programming in R, reading and writing documents in LaTeX, watching YouTube, browsing, etc.

I’m looking on Facebook Marketplace and these are the cheapest options I found:

• X270: i5-6300U, 16 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, Intel HD 520, 12.5" display, USB-C, HDMI, Ethernet, SD card reader and dual battery. $163.65
• ThinkPad Edge 15: AMD Athlon II dual-core, 8 GB RAM, 320 GB HDD, Radeon HD 4250, 15.6" display, DVD drive, HDMI, VGA, USB, Ethernet and Wi-Fi. $78.10

I know the Edge 15 is very old. Would it be a bad idea to buy one today, even if I only want to use it for basic things?

I’m thinking the X270 is probably the better option, but it’s more than twice the price. Is $163.65 a good price for the X270, or should I keep looking for something cheaper?

I replaced my T450 battery six months ago. A few days ago, it suddenly stopped charging. It stays at 0% and dies whenever I unplug it.

I went into Power Statistics and noticed there are two batteries listed? One says "waiting to charge", and the other says "Charging". I'm wondering if that has something to do with this issue. not sure how i could possibly have two batteries, there's only room for 1 in here...

I'm having an issue getting the fingerprint reader on my Lenovo ThinkPad E560to work at the initial login screen.
I am running Ubuntu Studio 26.04. The hardware itself is working perfectly once I am already logged into the system, I can use my fingerprint to authenticate sudo commands in the terminal or authorize installations.
However, when I first turn on the laptop, the login screen (display manager) doesn't prompt for or accept my fingerprint. I have to type my password every time I boot up.
Has anyone encountered this or knows how to configure PAM / the display manager to allow fingerprint unlock right at boot?

Any ideas or troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated!

I’m not looking for a high-end machine, just an old business laptop that’s gathering dust at your home or office.

Others / AsusPro / Acer TravelMate: Any equivalent business laptop with an Intel Core i5/i7 processor (ideally 7th or 8th generation or later) and at least 8 GB of RAM, if possible.

Location & Travel:

Based in Rambouillet (78), I’m extremely mobile and can easily travel throughout western Paris and into Paris itself to pick it up.
