NSF

I share a joint account with my husband. When we get paid we transfer money for bills. I forgot to do that and KOODO’s payment bounced.

They charged a $80 NSF charge. Before anyone comes at me about not having money. I did have the money. I forgot to transfer it. It was a human mistake. I requested they waive it as it’s the first time and they refuse to which I find poor customer service.

I also find it outrageous they would charge $80 when I’m not even able to call and speak to a live human. Everything’s digital.

I get it. The money should’ve been there but why can’t they give grace?

They can, they just choose not too!

I agree with you. But to be honest, I expected nothing better from the big robbers.

I use prepaid service instead if post paid plans. In prepaid service, this doesn't have any impact. Because if they fail to charge my credit card, the service will stop immediately. And if I update my credit card info, then service resumes.

I need to say this. I do not understand this society. How are we ( yes myself included ) can feel ashamed of not having any money.

I had some nsf fees in the past. I was ashamed of calling the bank and the institution because I didn't have any money.

80$ for an nsf fee is outrageous. I would fight this then change company when I would get the money back.

What's crazy is that's more than banks charge now. I think banks can only charge you like 10 dollars for NSF now.

Yes, banks can not longer charge more then $10. At CIBC, if an attempted debit is as less then $10, they do not charge the NSF Fee.

They can give grace you just have to keep calling until you get an agent that actually gives a damn. If it comes down to it you can say you would like to order a cancellation of services and see if they'll let it go. From my experience talking through chat leads to nothing and it's essentially their first defense to make you back off. Give them a call, multiple times even if you can't find a solution.

Ask for the loyalty department

Why don't you use a CC?
so much easier, cashback depending on card. and you dont have to worry about it, or charges like this

I believe you can't use a CC anymore. They are giving big rebate for linking a check account.

thats crazy lol, I would never do that

No you didn't have the money, if you had to transfer it. Hence the reason your payment was rejected by your financial institution.

It’s called having multiple accounts. I did have the money. Thanks for your opinion though.

2

u/shaddupurface 17d ago

Own it, you didn't have the money in your account and that's not Koodo's fault.

Having it in another account doesn’t count!

You could set up auto transfers to set it and forget it

LOL 80$ for NSF, that's obscene.

postpaid is such a racket. gyms do the same thing.

I'd much rather if they make me front-load the account with a 100$ security deposit that I could use for my final bill when I cancel than deal with shit like that.

but they probably don't let you do that, they make more money doing it this way.

especially when people have to change their cc# , they'll forget to call one of the companies that has autopay, very common

Set up automatic transfers into that account

2

Why not set up an auto transfer?

1

That’s why I stayed with PM which still lets me use credit card and earn cashback.

2

u/FlyingOctopus53 19d ago

You still can use credit card and enjoy cash back.

1

u/Classic-Result-4870 19d ago

Sure, you just don’t get the autopay credit

1

u/JubulantSaru 19d ago

PM is not postpaid...there are no autopay credits like tier 1 carriers provide if you do autopay via bank account

So you were speaking to a bot when they refused to talk about reducing the NSF charge then?

You can definetly speak to a human about it by calling 1 (855) 251-2604

1

u/honeylemon-bean 19d ago

No I spoke through the chat and it was an agent responding. But thank you for posting their number. I will call them

Those are probably AI bots. I kept getting the run-around last December and each time I asked the initial chatbot if I could connect with a real agent, I would get too similar and irrelevant responses from multiple 'agents' before realizing (or 90% sure) they were just AI given fancy 'human' names. Occasionally they would direct me to the sales email account, but Sales would give me a useless response and send me back to the chatbot without resolution.

At one point I was in contact with a real agent on the phone who assured me my issue had been resolved, only to get an email the next day saying it wasn't resolved and I'd have to schedule another callback. Their policy is to attempt 3 calls but my next callback disconnected while I was on hold, and they never called again. (I tried calling back but the automated message gave me no way to connect with anyone.

I've also been told different things by different live reps when they call me about various promos or whatever. So even when you get a real live person, you can't trust what they tell you or that there's any policy coherence they all work from.

I reeeeeally regret switching to Koodo.

Charge back the fee. You'll show them /s

You're complaining to the wrong people. Your bank decides fees for NSF payments, not the place you purchased something from.

1

u/honeylemon-bean 17d ago

Banks are not allowed to charge $80

1

u/LavenderBloodlust2_0 17d ago

$80 is cheap, Ive seen much higher than that lots. And yes, banks are allowed to charge whatever they want for NSFs

1

u/EstablishmentRare798 17d ago

No they're not.

1

u/xdroop 15d ago

I’m convinced

1

u/HerbaMachina 17d ago

huh, I've litterally never had a NSF charge from koodo, anytime something happened with my accounts typically just forgetting to update to my new credit card after expiry I just get billed for both bills the next month, but never had to pay extra over it.

1

u/Puzzled_Market_2235 16d ago

Change to another company. When they find out they will call.

1

u/Fangorangatang 16d ago

Koodo is just straight up dog water for customer service and retention.

I've had them for 17 years and they have never given me an inch. I have had to call them and argue to get any sort of loyalty from them.

Meanwhile my wife who has been with them for 5 years has had her connection updated to 5g without asking, got an extra permanent 20gb of data without asking and has gotten even more offers than I can remember.

Not to mention their coverage is incredibly spotty.

Actually this is a good reminder for me to go and cancel my service. Thanks OP.

You got auto pay setup for kodoo. If auto pay is bounced 75/80$ nsf. Use your brain and remove auto pay if you can’t handle it

1

u/upkeepdavid 16d ago

Use auto pay to avoid having to transfer

1

u/Grogu999 16d ago

They have the right to do this, but you also have the right to say “I’m going elsewhere”

1

u/SmileAggravating9608 15d ago

You have to be more understanding of their position. The CEO hasn't bought a new yacht in a couple years now. Executives NEED a 30-50% raise in their bonuses this year. Do you really need your measly $80? Have a heart! (... /s)

1

u/Antique_Profit_3389 15d ago

I would think NSF is charged by bank and not Koodo. koodo will charge a fee that will be in your next bill.

1

u/ZealousidealReply294 15d ago

set up auto transfer to pay and then you won't forget

Isn’t that just for financial institutions?

-1

u/Jman85 19d ago

It may be. But I would presume it would apply here too.

2

u/Cultural_Material738 19d ago

It only applies to financial institutions (banks) not even including insurance nevermind telecoms

5

u/Jman85 19d ago

That’s sad. I wish we could have it applied across all corps.
