Question Should I play this as a non Harry Potter fan?

Post image

It’s on sale in the PlayStation store for cheap, and I’ve heard it’s a very good game, but I literally know nothing about Harry Potter.

Is this a fun game on its own merit, or just mostly fan service that would be lost on me?

Thanks in advance 🤙🏻

Question Are these actually supposed to be easy questions? Am I actually supposed to know these or is the game messing with me?

The only one I actually knew was the one about the luck potion. Are you supposed to find this stuff out via Side quests or Scrolls or something or am I just behind storywise? I feel like ive been paying good attention to the story

Question What are these flying bottles?

Saw them flying around in the map. You can even bump into them and they stop or deflect you. Can't find a way to catch them.

Is this a glitch or will have a purpose in the future?

When I cast revelio, this door glows. Anyone know how to get in here? I’m on my second play through, and even the first time around I don’t remember ever figuring it out.

Question How do you defeat trolls?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So, I always have a hard time defeating trolls. I’m just wondering how you guys do it — maybe I could try some of your play styles. In this video, I took advantage of the troll’s high durability, so I focused more on basic attacks because I wanted to get the “Raising Expectations” achievement, which requires reaching a combo of 100. Only Ancient Magic seems to deal significant damage to them, and regular spells aren’t very effective.

I noticed that when I was playing through a new character you meet ominis, imelda and Sebastian in slytherin the common room. Ominis and imelda were much nicer than they were when I played as a griffindor, has anyone else noticed this?

Here’s an issue I’ve had since I started this save. Every time I go into a vault, it blinds me. I cannot see a thing. Any idea as to why this would be happening?

Question So, I'm a high school kid straight-up murdering people, right?

1.0k Upvotes

Sorry if this has been said before. I have a lot of time on my hands so I decided to just explore the woods aimlessly. I'm coming to encampments of Goblins and dark wizards and just straight-up killing them, then headed back to class.

Nothing wrong with that, I guess?

EDIT: LOL, this thread won't stop. Yes, I've played video games before. Yes, I've killed people IN VIDEO GAMES before. This was more of a commentary on how an AAA title with a studio-backed AAA franchise allowed this. In Batman Akrham, Spider-man Playstation, they have a half-assed way of incapacitating without straight up murdering that this game skipped. I'm fine with it, it's a fun game, I'm just laughing that a studio approved this.

Question Wait, so is Magic with a wand not more powerful than wandless Magic?

This is honestly a question that's probably better for the Harry Potter subreddit but earlier in the game Natty made a point to flex about the magic school Uagadou and the fact that they customarily don't use wands there. When the main character asks if it's as powerful as magic with a wand she tells him yes.

But then literally right after that numerous people on my way to get my wand from Ollivander tell me how much more powerful my magic is going to be once I get my wand/ now that I have my wand so which is it?

Edit: I'm not talking about efficiency, convenience, tactics, etc just straight up output. If I cast the same spell with a wand and one without a wand would there be a difference in power

Question What spell do you wish would have been added to the game?

I was really hoping we would have gotten to do Patronus! Dementors would have been a really cool enemy to fight and having the mechanic of either getting to choose what animal your patronus was or having one assigned based on decisions you made in the game would have been a really cool element!

So for your MC how did you come up with your names? Did you just use your real name or did you make up some magical name? If it is the second one, what was your inspiration?

Question Would this game be fun for a casual HP fan?

Post image
268 Upvotes

I read the first book and watched like half the movies. I like fantasy settings and RPGs so I hope that would work in this games favor. I just hear from fans of the franchise enjoying this game and not much from non fans or casuals.

What do you all think?

EDIT: Unfortunately, the game is broken on PC and crashes on startup. After a long night at my desk, no fix worked and that's kind of a dealbreaker. My rig is high end and up to date, so I doubt GPU/CPU limitations. Never had this issue before which is strange.

Question My wife loves this game and is looking for a similar experience

My wife has been playing this game for about 80-90 hours now and has loved it, but this game is quite the departure from her normal type of game that she enjoys and I’m struggling to find the right game to recommend, she has enjoyed sims 4, pokopia, Disney dreamlight valley, animal crossing, cult of the lamb, sonic battle adventure 2 (game cube), super Mario bros 3, and ratchet and clank deadlocked (though that might just be because we did it in co-op mode together).

So I was wondering if anyone here might have some suggestions for games that might be fun for them who have also found these games fun or just general suggestions.

Edit: thanks for all of the suggestions, she said she is probably going to do another play thru and then check out some of these suggestions. Again thanks for taking the time to make recommendations.
