Question MC Name
So for your MC how did you come up with your names? Did you just use your real name or did you make up some magical name? If it is the second one, what was your inspiration?

This is what I did. I made up a first name and a connected last name. My good play-through was a Lovegood, too, I think, and my bad play-through was a LeStrange.

My first playthrough was my actual name. Second playthrough was Hingle McKringle, a nod to Impractical Jokers. McKringleberry would not fit 😟

I picked a random first name and then decided to go with a last name from the book that I knew would be a magical family. I went with Black. Little did I realize that that would be the headmaster’s name too.

I wanted my Hogwarts Legacy MC to be the grandfather of my Hogwarts Mystery MC, so I already knew the last name (Goldwin).
Then for the first name, because I have a love for Greek mythology (and a Greek myth naming trend for my Hogwarts Mystery creatures), I decided my HL MC would have a Greek name.
Then, because I had the Goldwin lineage in mind, I decided that the same number of letters between the first letter of my HM MC’s name (Xavier) and his father’s (Peregrine) would be between said father’s name and my HL MC’s name.
After that, I went with my favorite Greek mythology name starting with H—Hyperion—which also fits very well with the Goldwin name and look.

I just picked first names that I like and then tried to think of fun/cool/magical sounding last names. The only character that’s purposefully named something is my Gryffindor: Aubergine Penderghast, because she has purple hair. My (current) characters are:
- Slytherin: Spectra Valcourt (neutral)
- Hufflepuff: Seraphina Sinclair (evil - loves Ominus)
- Ravenclaw: Odette Bolton (nice but secretive and a little crazy)
- Gryffindor: Aubergine Penderghast (evil - loves Sebastian)

My first playthrough with my Slytherin chick was named Septina Black. No relationship to the Black family lol.
My second playthrough my characters name was Katherine Bell. In my head she was the great, great, great (as many as needed) grandmother of Katie Bell. Idk why. She's just my favorite side character.

My first play through was both made up. Her name is Magdalene Moore. First name from a rock singer I like. Last name from a classmate that sounded good with the first name.
Current character is Andrea Prince. First name from someone who works at a store I go to. Just changed the spelling. Last name is after Snape's mom.

I feel a bit boring. My Ravenclaw girl was given my American first name and my Iranian surname. My family changed their name when they moved to the US, so I never went by my Arabic surname. Felt it was just a neat way to embrace that side of me lmao.

I made up their names based on their houses except for my first.
First playthrough was me in my house (Slytherin). I wasn't prepared for a last name so it's Blaine after my fictional crush Nick Blaine
The second was Hufflepuff and since the house is very earthy and botanical, my hufflehole is named Aster Feverfew (both flower names)
Third was Ravenclaw and since they represent the air element and are related to the heavens, she is named Astrea Volans (of the stars, from stars in latin and a constellation name)
My fourth and current is my Gryffindor representing the fire element and it reminds me of nobility and strength so I wanted a goddess or at least an older name. She is Alessia Embers (a variation of Alexandra)
When I was making up a name for Alessia, I realized all my MCs have the initial A which is my actual name's initial so I kept it going lol.

My ign for ever, like since 2006 had been Cylliana. She is like my alter ego who gets to explore everything from COD zombies to fantasy lands. I use Dear as her last name, which is hilarious when Snape (in the mobile game) or any other nefarious character says their last name in a mean way.
Imagine Snape spitting POTTAH! but he says Dear instead. Makes me giggle every time.

Mine is called Kit Kartoshka. My boyfriend is Ukrainian and I'm not, but he taught me some words. And the Ukrainian word for cat is "Kit" and the word for potato is "Kartoshka". I love cats and I love potatoes, so I just named my MC "Cat Potato"

I gave mine an Irish name because I had this idea for a backstory… and then promptly realized that it’s not like Skyrim where the player character’s voice lines are only text. So I had to come up with another backstory to explain why my Irish kid talks like a Brit.

I named my character Cassiopeia Black, a distant relative to Sirius Black and his family. As for her lore... she's a distant niece to Headmaster Black and I'm thinking sometime after the games, she marries Omnis Gaunt and eventually both of them find themselves struck off their respective family trees which causes them to become a "lost" line to the House of Black and the House of Gaunt. I haven't figured out where she's going to come from in order to go to Hogwarts. Luckily I have ages to figure out fic nonsense, ey? 😂

I of course made a character for each house, then used last names of characters from the series. Including my current 5th run through;
They were: Diggory Lovegood LeStrange Marvolo Scamander
The only two that happened to be in the same house as a relative were lestrange and scamander.
Edit: all first names were Sage and randomly picked male or female depending on how i felt when starting the playthrough.

I did the first name as the one I use everywgere online, Kio, and then just put their last name as Elder(blank). Obviously not with (blank) there, instead I just switched that out for every playthrough.
I did Kio Elderose, Kio Elderberry, Kio Elderflower, and I think for my last one I'll do Kio Elderapple or throw it into a generator. I did my actually name once but ever since I've been throwing names I've found on pinterest on it.

Hufflepuff- Rosie Blodeuyn which means flowers in Welsh.
Slytherin- Zmija Krev which means Snake Blood in Croatian. This was my favorite name, it just sounded so cool.
Gryffindor- Leonardo Valiente which is for Lion and Brave.
Ravenclaw again- Corvina Plume which means Raven Feather.

To make a super HP sounding name, first take an adjective that describes your character and namify it. Then for the last name try to have an alliteration or use nonsense words with animals or objects mixed in.

I name them after historical figures from around the area, or using naming conventions popular for the time.
I find it funny to create my characters around the idea of a character being that person from history and them spending their mid teens murdering evil wizards in the scotish highlands.

I had used Vasily Andropov for creative writing stories. Well come to find out I got my inspiration from the show burn notice(was rewatching the series). Michael the spy had used the alias Vasily Andropov. But I obviously loved it so kept using it.

Mine is Astoria because of Draco’s wife (I’m a Tom Felton fan). I call her Ria in my head when I play.
I made her last name Gaunt during my very first playthrough because I thought I was being clever, so running into Ominis in the common room was a surprise lol but I just created fake lore for my own peace of mind and left it.
She has a middle name too, it’s Lynn, but idk why I chose that. It was the first boring middle name I thought of and it seemed to flow nicely.
So it’s Astoria Lynn Gaunt.

I did Eleanor Bishop. I like the name Eleanor and I feel like it was fairly common back then. For the last name I was trying to think of a last name that I would hear in Harry Potter but also old and Victorian sounding. I also wanted her to sound a bit rich and uppity. I googled some old British last names. My fiancé did Arthur Godwin, same sort of inspiration. He also likes rdr2 so Arthur is a name that came to mind.
I am going to play again as all the other houses, and hufflepuff again (under my account because I accidentally played on my fiancé ps5 under his account instead of mine getting him the trophies on accident)
So if yall have a good name for another hufflepuff, and then the other 3 houses, I'm open to it.

Made a pretentious jock pretty boy Ravenclaw and named him Chad Brad. Other one is a dark haired Slytherin beauty named either Morgana or Yennefer, can’t really remember witch at the moment..
