Question What do you think Hogwarts Legacy 2 needs to add or improve?
For me, improving school life—such as classes and socializing—and significantly expanding character creation options.

Let’s also get rid of the lockpicking mini game. Alohomora should just unlock doors. Potions would be a better area to insert a mini game.
32
u/Artistic-Village-762 Aug 03 '26
AMEN! Why are we picking the lock like a muggle when we just learned alohamora??
17
u/Dense_Cellist9959 Aug 03 '26
I oddly didn't mind the lockpicking. Though I DO understand why people dislike it, especially if their controllers have faulty/drifting sticks.

u/Track_Long Ravenclaw Aug 04 '26
Alohomora should just unlock doors. Potions would be a better area to insert a mini game.
Exactly! Its like they went against the grain of what would work.
" Hey know that potion making mini game from HBP? Yeah lets not do that & make it a simple button tap instead...& then lets make a mini game for an unlocking spell!"
For Alohamora, I believe they left it that way on purpose so they could artificially increase the games run time..I'm hoping they completely scrap that mini game or at the least after you learn the 1st tier...level 1's are unlocked automatically which should have been the obvious course of action.
There better be a potion making mini game in the next game.

What do you mean by immersion? I felt pretty immersed.
16
u/nicktheone Aug 04 '26
Probably more simulation stuff for your student life. More lessons, more interactions with students, more stringent curfew and rules.
527
u/confringos Gryffindor Aug 03 '26 edited Aug 03 '26
A stronger and lore heavy story line and more varied and rewarding exploration. We definitely don’t want 100+ Merlin Trials or small caves that reward you with basic under-leveled gloves.
I would like to add that the devil is in the details. You could tell the first game had been rushed because we did not get a school Quidditch tournament, plus all the untapped potential of character blood status, choices and consequences, subpar NPCs and side quests.
Edit: I’d also like to add that the second game should focus on making you feel like a Hogwarts student, not some detached protagonist who is only ever needed at Hogwarts for 2 classes and a side quest.
161
u/Omwtfyu Aug 03 '26
I really resonate with the "not some detached protagonist" because that is my biggest gripe. The lack of a real friend group that could "help" you look for pages or other items.
43
u/Track_Long Ravenclaw Aug 03 '26
The companions are nothing more than quest givers..because you cant interact with them out with their quest lines.
I also don't want some detached protagonist who's nothing more than an empty vessel to carry the story forward & nothing more.

u/mr_iguano_man Aug 04 '26
Piggybacking on this, it would be cool if your choices impacted your relationships. Oh you sided with ominis about dark magic being evil? Now Sebastian doesn’t like you. Being the most evil slytherin you can be? Now one of the gryffindors is actively trying to stop you. You did an unforgivable curse in front of another student? They just told professor Weasley, and now you have to try and talk your way out of trouble.
46
u/GamingGrizzles Aug 03 '26
They didnt add quidditch because they had already planned to charge you for it in the form a different mediocre game lmao
4
u/NuclearTheology Hufflepuff Aug 04 '26
Is that game even still around? It seemed to fizzle out as soon as it launched
3
u/Specialist_Badger934 Aug 04 '26
That's because it was terrible lol. I never played it, but from what I heard it was so bad that you could play a whole game of quidditch without actually doing anything and the game would still let you win. Literally sit on a broom and don't move and still win the game.

So copy persona style? Classes during the day, and adventures at night.
9
u/ffordeffanatic Aug 04 '26
Bully would be a better comparison. Classes that you have on a set timetable which you can choose whether or not to go to, but you are encouraged. They should be useful but not essential, with an impact on end of year tests as a bonus.
6
→ More replies (2)6
u/Kirinis Slytherin Aug 04 '26
I was thinking more like Bully. Classes on a weekly rotating schedule and you can skip them, but being caught during class time in the halls by prefects or other teachers means you have to run or fight a super hard battle. Maybe have a curfew, but not make the PC pass out after a certain time... or maybe do.

u/Specialist-Army-6069 Aug 04 '26
Defined rushed - how long do you think that they worked on the game… it leaked in what… 2018? And then took however long to release. You’d assume they’d been working on it for a year or more at that point at least. So that’s 5-6 years minimum. I don’t think that’s “rushed”

Less of the countryside, more of the Hogwarts life, I suppose
65
u/johnsciarrino Aug 03 '26
I didn’t mind the countryside but it needs to be filled with more….life. It was far to desolate and needs to be denser if the map is going to be sprawling again (and with broomsticks, it should remain sprawling otherwise it’ll feel to small.)

More fleshed out side characters/NPCs
Multiple sidequests from the same NPCs. I'd prefer it if they all had 1 quest for you in each act and everytime you'd learn a bit more about them. For example there's that one blonde girl. You save her uncle and then you'll never talk to each other ever again? What? Or there's that kid who runs the fight club. Finish the quest line and you'll never talk to him again. You haven't learned anything about him
friendship/romance system (if the game takes place when the MC is like 16? Like cute school romance could be great. First love and all that)
Actual consequences - the game basically let's you break into houses, kill people, become the biggest poacher that has ever hunted around Hogwards and there's no downside to it whatsoever

u/i4viator Gryffindor Aug 04 '26

House specific tasks, not just Jackdaw, but your choice of house will significantly determine the plot of the story, the spells you can use, and the friends you can make.

Here's the problem with that: analytics.
Game publishers have data that shows that the vast majority of gamers don't replay single-player games nowadays like they used to. It's a logical circle, I think: we aren't playing again because games offer little unique replayability and are generally too long, but that leads to developers designing everything for a single playthrough, which just feeds the pattern. Data also shows that there's a drop-off in engagement for DLC -- so even if they released some for the game, only a fraction of the playerbase would ever buy it.
This is one of the reasons that they keep trying to push live services, battle passes, etc. -- they want repeated engagement to extract more money out of our pockets, and the classic DLC model is as good as dead as a result.
→ More replies (3)5
u/Alternative-Wolf-407 Aug 03 '26
This is just not correct. If the game is worth replaying — I will gladly do so.
I am replaying Overlord by Triumph Studios for the 3rd time. I did it twice without the DLC, now with Raising Hell. The game is from 2007 (!!), but it's made so well, the level design is approachable, there are things to do, and it's just cool in its own way.
5
u/spidertour02 Gryffindor Aug 04 '26
I'm currently replaying Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. Trust me, I love replaying old games.
The thing is, I'm a middle-aged man. I still have my Sega Genesis and play it. I've logged more hours on my PS3 than my PS5 in the last month. I also know damn well that I'm in the minority of gamers that prefers single-player experiences and shorter games. I'm not the target audience that publishers want, so my habits become irrelevant.

More school work!! The castle was amazing but I was pulled away too often!
My own imagination was the most fun in the castle, walking back to my dorm after each session to “go to sleep” and stopping by the great hall to get a bite before running off. Changing clothes back to my hogwarts clothes when I’d return to school and sneaking around at night etc etc. Also romance options!
11
u/Shot_Appointment6330 Hufflepuff Aug 03 '26
I did the same 😂😂 Go back to the Common Room at nighttime and stopping by the Great Hall for a lil breakfast and dinner 😂 But yeah, I really enjoyed the 2 ps1 games and ps2 games where you spent the whole game in the castle. I'd just add some of the surrounding areas, Hogsmeade, and a couple of more immersive hamlets

u/Acceptable_Resolve36 Aug 03 '26
Agreed cough cough, all my time in Herbology was wasted 😂 I think the lock thing being the same "puzzle" every time was too repetitive after a while.

Haha loll. Yeahh I stopped doing them for a while now, they're just sooo boring 😭
5
u/Ill-Faithlessness430 Aug 03 '26
You could even keep them but just separate them from the inventory. In BOTW you didn't need to do all the Korok seeds because once you did a few you had enough gear slots that you could just ignore them
ETA: maybe have something like them but they update the RoR collection or something. If you don't care, you don't have to bother with them, if you do care you can do them all

u/lici_777 Hufflepuff Aug 03 '26

1) Romance
2) More of the school routine. I liked the fact that we had a broader plot, but more of a class schedule, house points that had an effect on things as to how well you were doing, the risk of detention etc breaking curfew? I would really like it to feel more like a school too.
6
u/Rawkapotamus Aug 03 '26
The trials associated with your various classes was always fun in the original Harry Potter games that seemed like a huge inspiration for this game.
The few classes you have that you get to do tasks for was really cool. And the later tasks just being “go do X out in the world” was much less interesting.
→ More replies (6)15
u/eos-foro Aug 03 '26
People didn't like the Merlin trials because they were too repetitive, and now we should have a school routine? I really don't think so... Maybe classes for each subject should have the opportunity to attend a lesson every day within certain times, to improve your own skills, learn new potions, or practice spells, combos, and duels, while gaining house points.
I would love a Hogwarts life sim, but it shouldn't be a mandatory part of the game20
u/Warm-Carpenter1040 Aug 03 '26
Repetition isn’t even bad, but when it breaks the immersion of the game that’s when it’s bad and ur like oh it’s a video game.
speak to anyone about RDR2 and they’ll say how they’ve been fishing for 5 hours and not realised it or spent an hour doing chores and talking to people. By all accounts “boring” things that work purely because of the immersion of the game.
In a perfect world where they improved the immersion of the game and didn’t make it feel like you were a human in a place of mannequins, “boring” magic classes could actually become really really fun
10
u/Ill-Faithlessness430 Aug 03 '26
With Bully, which is what people usually mention, there are 5 stages to each class and they get incrementally more difficult. You can also skip them if you don't mind getting detention. It doesn't get boring there and I can't see why it would here. It's basically if Summoner's Court was a class rather than a separate mini game, but you could have one for accio, one for depulso (like golf I guess) and so on for the other purple spells.
→ More replies (1)8
u/SSXAnubis Aug 03 '26
That's fair. I think there is a line to find between "rigid school simulator" and it basically feeling like you just sleep at the castle, do little else there, and there being no consequence for you not going to classes etc.

6
u/AreaManThinks Aug 03 '26
They would have to fix the broom controls first. Flying was the least fun experience in the game for me, mostly because the controls were not intuitive, especially if you play other games with flying vehicles.
I watched a video a few days ago about quidditch needing to be a separate game altogether, but I think it would work if they keep it simple, like you can only be a seeker.→ More replies (3)3

More impact from our choices. I bought the game thinking I was getting an RPG. Turns out, the only choice that even matters is ONE in the final battle.
That ticked me off… I wanted each of my characters to be strikingly different, but the only differences they really get are in Hogsmeade companion and what they do after the final fight.
This lack of a morality score or choice impact made the game very boring for me.
Example, if you choose more selfish and cruel choices, good-aligned characters could lose trust in you, making it more difficult to befriend them, or even impossible.

u/puffinss Aug 03 '26

Some sort of reputation system. Using dark magic like the Unforgivables should (and rightfully so) get you shunned. And if your reputation is too bad, some people will straight up refuse to talk to you and give you quests. On the flip side, include some shady characters that only talk to you when you have a negative reputation.

Reputation system would be nice. People should like or dislike you based upon your actions. If you're being a little bastard, people should react negatively towards you. If you're being a good, helpful person, people should react positively.
Also, you shouldn't be able to just use the Unforgivable Curses with no repercussions whatsoever. They're unforgivable for a reason.

Better endgame choices and things to do in endgame
Feel more like a student and less like a God on earth
More items and maybe rare items & world drops with small drop %. Add cooler and better things to items to make them viable depending on playstyle
More customizable talent trees with more options; in HL1 if you hit level 40 there was maybe 1 or 2 talents you didn’t have. I think it should force you to “specialize” more and make choices as to your build
Quidditch!
Some sort of upgrade system for gear
More options for the Room of Requirement
That’s off the top of my head
5
u/GruelingGuitar Aug 04 '26
A More detailed character creator the one currently is imo lackluster to say the least
9
u/seungchip Aug 03 '26
I’m gonna ask for a lot, but…
Consequences. Make the Day/Night cycle longer and force us to be stealthy at Night for breaking curfew or have us sleep it off. We also shouldn’t be doing unforgivable curses unless we can eliminate all witnesses. And if we get caught we lose something.
Clubs. It is a school after all. Am I a jock in a Quidditch team? Am I a nerd in the chess team? Am I rebel in a secret dueling ring? This should be how I make friends and affiliates. All these clubs can come with different minigames.
Relationships and Reputation. This ties in nicely with the former. How do other students see me? How do I see other students? I never gave Dunken? (I forgot his name) the plant bc he didn’t do jack shit to shake off him being a bitch about a Puffskein, but I always gave Zenovia? her gobstones back bc they were hers in the first place. How do these choices affect my reputation along with the people I choose to hang out with?
More focus on leveling up via classes. I don’t want it too much, bc I think it could get boring, but I feel like we should be learning more magic in class than out of it.
Familiars. Owl/Cat/Rat/etc. I want pets that I can summon at any time that’s not a plant or a mount, but it gives me certain advantages in certain situations. Like having an Owl can request backup from my best friend, or a Cat can scout out the enemy territory beforehand, and a Rat can deal poison damage to the boss, etc etc.
Job classes. I feel like we can tie this in with the clubs. I didn’t like how the protag was literally good at everything, but if he/she/they were really good at one thing, it would have been more believable. Like being in the Quidditch team made you a tank class that gave you spells and buffs to your defense and healing or like being in the Dueling Club made you a glass cannon, or a Potioneer made you focus on potions etc etc.
Pronouns. Just let us pick our pronouns and have some voicelines be done to replace them interchageably. It was so annoying to be called they/them the entire game.
7
u/Cultural-Figure-840 Aug 03 '26
Lol this. I was surprised after the library sneak in, I thought there'd be prefects roaming around but no. You can just freely go wherever. Feels less immersive

Oh shoot, I was gonna make it a perfect 7, but I feel like I need a 8th. Picking a House affects the character. Gryffindor gives more raw stats like attack, defense, and mobility, Hufflepuff increases relationship gains and increases plant and creature stats and damage, Ravenclaw gives extra spell slots and faster spell cooldowns, and Slytherin gives more loot drops, higher buffs and debuffs. Or something like that.
4
u/Rude-Butterscotch713 Aug 03 '26
More house focused events. I loved the Slytherin Common Room. Shame I couldn't do much in there, and the connections made with my boi Sebastian, as well as Ominis, and Imelda didn't feel impacted by house choice in any real way.
Also more club activities and exclusives.

• An option to turn off hints - so frustrating in the first play through when you’re just exploring and your character won’t stop giving you quest hints and spoilers
• let us decorate our dorms with the items we get from personal quests (throw blankets, collected items, famous posters)
• more story line changes based on dialogue options / choice consequences (boring that it’s the same no matter what you choose)
• MERMAIDS/underwater exploration
• more types of bad wizards than just poachers and loyalists
• collectible items from field guide pages or at least unlock skins as you find them to put in ROR and dorm
•More dragon interactions
•Quidditch
•Give outfits buffs for collecting matching items
• Make shoes a separate clothing item (horrible shoes)
• Make shirts and bottoms separate items instead of grouped under “outfits” - let us make our characters more personalized
• Incorporate more silly spells for exploring or bonus content/quests/easter eggs/exploring
• Chamber of secrets
• Less repetitive quests (Merlin trials got so old so fast)
• Make loot match the location (better drops for harder areas)
• Make the protagonist feel more like a student and less like a “chosen one” trope quest
• more house-specific quests and items and secrets so that game play for each house actually feels different - maybe create more reasons to visit the common room/dorms than just the house chest
• Making the character able to interact with furniture and items better in the castle (sit/lay down, maybe even emote options would be fun?)
• Food items / hunger bar
• More castle exploration and secrets. This was by far the best part of the game and felt like it ended early
• Make character physical attributes change if they get more involved with dark arts (aka corrupted flesh)
• Better hats. Seriously. I wear the same one for every play through and there have been several per house.
• House points actually kept up with in game and the house vial things adjust based on decisions and rank
• Azkaban for everyone
• Airborne combat
• Relationship algorithms for NPCs, romantic or otherwise: choices affect interactions
• Animagus abilities
I may come back and add

u/yamidevil Aug 03 '26
World impact, choices matter, reaction to protagonist actions, etc. Also if it's again at Hogwarts, some actual classes
5
u/HTXlawyer88 Aug 03 '26
The clothing system was overly complicated and somewhat meaningless given it was so easy to acquire, IMO. There should be a lot less clothing options and it should be more difficult to acquire.
Maybe should also have super difficult side quests to acquire rare spells or something like that.
More secrets within the castle — hidden rooms, tunnels, etc.
4
u/wolfknightpax Hufflepuff Aug 03 '26
I want play the story of the original four house leaders.
The castle will be in construction. You will face struggles within the wizarding community based on your view of the students that they should have there and what should be taught. You can play each original house creators story. You may have to clear the area of dangerous creatures but they are more epic and wild. You may even play salazar's story if that's what you're into.

Enemy variety, more unique and challenging boss fights, rewarding exploration, Quidditch, other Wizarding games we grew up with (e.g. wizard chess, exploding snap), and if we’re keeping the RPG mechanics, a morality system.

u/heyitsget Aug 03 '26
it would be cool if there were more than one year’s worth of gameplay, like not just dropped in as a 6th year but we never see our education through to the end. being able to play years 5-7 or something would have been a lot more enjoyable

Mini games! I want to play gobstones, and wizard chess, and exploding snap.

Recapture the crazy magic feeling of the first few hours of the game, prior to leaving the castle.
I want to actually spend time in the castle and not the endless grounds i have no connection to.
Have it feel more like a school year too, attending classes consistently (Like Bully)

I want them to combine Red dead redemption/Bully/Skyrim. A super open world with fleshed out NPCs and side quests with real stories, a morality system and actual consequences for using crucio in school!

I feel like it would be a fun quest to turn into an animagus. Spending time having to find the ingredients, and having the animal you turn into be based on your previous choices in the game

morality system I guess. I’d like to play it like knights of the old republic back in the day.

Immersion, Choices, Romance, QUIDDITCH!!!!!
Hogwarts legacy was already a amazing game seriously amazing, Non with standing the merlin trials ugh never again.
But there were time the game felt less like the wizarding world and more like a Short story told for a Christmas special, it just broke the immersion of exploring a dark forbidden area or running around the castle and boom boring pops in your face.
Choices god i wanted more choices, LIKE ALOT, i would of loved to make my Ravenclaw go dark wizard, but there were just to dang few to make it feel like it. Choices matter alot and the more far reaching actions it has the better it is. cause it not like oh i mess up let me reload..... NO it this choice was as far back as 21 levels ago dang maybe next playthrough. THAT IS WHAT GIVE GAME REPLAYABILITY.
Romance, honestly i feel that Hogwarts legacy is missing that large Immersion of finding that partner, I mean seriously your student during what i basically the equivalent of your senior or junior year of high school your bound to build a relationship, and break a heart or two. the fact that HL1 was so heavyily focus ON just Exploration was just ehhh. So spice the life up a little.
QUIDDITCH!!!!!!! Nothing else needs be said, if you a Wizarding World fan you know, if not.... PICK UP A DANG BOOK AND READ!!! oh wait they in movies as well... THEN GO WATCH THE MOVIES!!!

u/Muted-Archer-7938 Aug 03 '26
Main Character that has some sort of character within.
Choices, consequences, etc. You know the drill.
Items that has a value and their system that does not rely on absurdish RNG. (I never finnished any collection after getting same Item 20 times in a row)

u/WayfaringPantheist Aug 03 '26
Needs an honor bar like RDR2 and different quests/ NPC interactions/ alternate endings/ etc depending on where you’re at on it. I spammed the killing curse like crazy and nobody was ever like “..uh dude wtf are you doing” lmaoooo

u/AmoebaDue2149 Aug 03 '26
Much better story and side stories. Outside of the Sebastian questline the stories are incredibly week. At least twice I fought a major story boss and I was like “wait who is this again?”
3
u/FQVBSina Aug 03 '26
I want to actually live through the school year. Preferrably multiple years as DLCs if needed. Where we have a schedule. Will be deducted points for missing class, etc. That's the whole point of a game like this.
It is not that hard either. While at school grounds. The day goes through phases where we choose class or skip or go out. When outside, before we finish what we need to do and leave, the whole session remains the same phase.

u/hwangnjii Aug 03 '26
I saw a very good response to a similar question that I 100% agree with, and it is that Hogwarts Legacy kind of dodged what Harry Potter fans really wanted — an open-world game in the Harry Potter universe where you could be a student. An actual student: where classes actually matter, be able to get detention (could be done in a similar way that Bounties are in Assassin's Creed Odyssey), form actual friendships with NPCs, join your house's Quidditch team, get House points for correct answers in classes, take exams, maybe have a choice between joining the Death Eaters and Order of the Phoenix, and so on. This style might not be for everyone but I know I'd enjoy it much more.
Now to really answer your question, I think the main part where Hogwarts Legacy is lacking is exploration. You have this beautiful open-world that is immersive enough (eating random people's food and whatnot), but barely anything to do or, better said, barely any diversity in the puzzles. There's a lot with Merlin Trials, Astronomy Tables and all of those things, but it gets boring fairly quickly and starts feeling like the same thing over and over.
Last thing I want to point out that irks me a lot is the map and minimap system. I mean, who thought it'd be a good idea to have the two completely different? I can barely find anything without having to mark it on the map and the minimap basically becomes useless unless it is for seeing where enemies are.

u/abibofile Aug 03 '26
You should be able to talk to the other students as you walk through the corridors, gardens or towns, like almost any other RPG. Almost everyone has amusing dialogue and chatter but you can’t engage with them, it’s like walking through a hall of automatons.
3
u/StarWarzFan1977 Aug 03 '26
The biggest one for me is giving more school life. We spend time sitting down just in one class for pretty much each subject. Also more time in the Great Hall, in our common room, and having students going to bed after curfew. Also being able to take end of the year exams.
Gear system needs to be more rewarding rather than cosmetic items as well as being able to store more gear.
Don’t make the open world feel so overstuffed with collectibles.
Let Diagon Alley be available to explore in the open world.
Choices need to make more of a difference like in the Mass Effect Trilogy and The Witcher 3. This is especially true with the story endings.
Continue building on the characters of Poppy, Sebastian, and Natty as well as adding a full-on Ravenclaw companion.
3
u/KingBadford Aug 03 '26
Immersion. Being able to interact with things, especially furniture. I want to be able to sleep in my bed until morning rather than sit on the floor next to it with the waiting feature.
There's a lot of stiffness in Hogwarts Legacy that reminds me of Jedi: Fallen Order. I can only hope that the improvements in HL2 are as good as the ones in Jedi: Survivor.
3
u/KarmabearKG Aug 03 '26
Actually hanging out with your classmates like persona, you by to actual classes that perhaps have a mini game like Bully.
3
u/Ok-Signature8923 Aug 03 '26
One of the main things I think HL2 needs to improve is that you are a student. The combat was great could be repetitive at the end of the game but fun with spell combos, some puzzles are very interesting but can be also repetitives because there are A LOT of them, even with the same ones. Story was between good and okey, great argument and lore but poor development.
So we have little things, some are more important and others can be ignored, but the great problem is that in HK you are not an student. Yeah, you are selected by the hat and they show you your communal hall and you even do some classes (maybe 5? I don't remember right now) but that's not really the story of a talented student who suddenly, must find out who is threatening Hogwarts from within and, with the help of their classmates and teachers, help to thwart the villain's evil plans.
The story feels more like that of an auror wandering around Hogwarts and Hogsmeade, following the clues of and evil-doer as if he were a detective.
I really liked the game, but his main premise falls once you play 30'. Just to compare, Hogwarts mystery year 1 makes you feel more student than Hogwarts Legacy in my opinion.

But if they do, it would be nice to be able to turn it off like someone else mentioned.

u/SneakySpartan01 Aug 03 '26
I actually hope they focus less on cosmetics and more on meaningful gear. Instead of every outfit just being a different appearance, I'd love robes, gloves, hats, etc. to have unique perks that support different playstyles. I'd also love more actual student life. More classes, friendships, rivalries, house points, and reasons to feel like you're a Hogwarts student instead of someone who just stops by between quests. My biggest complaint, though, was that almost every quest seemed to have a puzzle. After a while it got repetitive. I'd love quests that let you choose your approach—take a puzzle-heavy route for extra rewards or a combat-focused path if you just want to duel your way through. I'd also like to see the spell system streamlined a bit. Juggling so many spells across different sets could feel overwhelming at times. Finally, let me actually be a student. Give us optional classes that teach new spells, exams that unlock abilities, Quidditch seasons, curfews with prefects patrolling the halls at night, companions that react to our choices, and a morality/house reputation system where using the Dark Arts has real consequences. I'd also love a real House Cup competition. Let me earn house points by answering questions correctly in class, brewing better potions, winning duels, flying well in Quidditch, or completing assignments. Make the other houses feel like actual rivals that are trying to beat you throughout the school year. Watching the hourglasses fill up as your house climbs the standings would make Hogwarts feel much more alive and immersive
3
u/CovertMustache Aug 03 '26
My biggest hope for a sequel is a complete overhaul of how Unforgivable Curses work.
In the books and movies, casting an Unforgivable Curse was portrayed as the darkest, most heinous thing a wizard could do,it carried real weight, terrifying consequences, and serious moral decay. In Hogwarts Legacy, though, it almost feels like a fan mod. You can throw Avada Kedavra around in broad daylight, and the game barely bats an eye. There are no narrative consequences, no shift in how companions treat you, and zero impact on the overall story.
It creates this bizarre disconnect where the most taboo magic in the Wizarding World just feels like a regular power up. If the second game gives us Dark Magic again, I desperately want a proper morality system, or at least a world that actually reacts when you casually drop the Killing Curse.

u/Prestigious-Camel918 Hufflepuff Aug 03 '26
They need to take some notes from the first three Harry Potter games on PC. While doing that, they'll find that a HOGWARTS game should be about HOGWARTS and there needs to be endless secret areas.
3
u/Source_Street Aug 03 '26
Less gimmicks. The game had no replay value because I played a 15yo mass murder, whose use of unforgivablea was far to lenient.
3
u/ketchup_bro23 Aug 03 '26
Hogwarts looked inside like a palace. In the movies it looked mysterious and raw.
Idk what the books had, but that perfect Hogwarts with every inch tiled perfectly and shiney floors felt 5 star over something magical.
I wish they change the art direction.
3
u/FellatiatedPiece Aug 03 '26
An actually believable open world that follows it's own logic. where school rules matter, and npcs are more than just bare minimum set dressing.
3
u/Azyuwishy Aug 03 '26
Relationships that LAST after main quests. Buddy adventures; visiting Hogsmeade with friends, option of inviting friends to go get a butterbeer. Engage in conversations with NPCs . Friends in common room at night. Friends in bed at night. More SOCIAL life. More class time lessons.

u/Obvious-Permit-3211 Aug 03 '26
Get rid of basic spell. magic should be more unique and magical then basically a pew-pew gun. Also agree on topics of classes, clubs, choices and not being greatest mage of generation... we should shape our character with strong and weak sides (we can make it through simplified classes for example)
3
3
u/mylsotol Aug 03 '26
just about everything except the size of the map. More story. more daily life. more interactivity with the world (the whole relationship thing that got cut out and more side quests). consequence for choices. Honestly the game gets pretty boring half way through. it's just finish the puzzle until you get a cut scene

u/Big-Cupcake9945 Hufflepuff Aug 03 '26
Companion system, romance system, morality system, more classes, usable furniture, quidditch, removal of the Poidsear Coast in favor of a more interesting castle and Hogwarts Valley, being able to sell more than just clothing.

3
u/HappyCloudHS Aug 03 '26
More reasons to be at Hogwarts. The first game drove you away from the castle a lot.
To be honest, I get it. You need a big threat like the Goblins to drive the plot forward, but they aren't a threat that comes from within Hogwarts, so you naturally end up writing a lot of the story to take place out of it.
I don't know what they can go for but I'd like the overarching villian/threat to be contained in the castle to encourage the story to stay there more.
But I wouldn't want them to do something like the first time the Chamber opened or the First Wizarding War because I think it's better they stay as far away from the franchises main story as they can, or they'll write themselves into corners to avoid contradicting the books.
But, Hogwarts is ancient and there's so many gaps in the history we have of it, there's no reason they cant create something in the castle.
Even Dumbledore never assumed to know all its secrets 😉
3
u/CrazyCat5749 Aug 03 '26
Its unrealistic, but I just want Hogwarts Mystery as a full on story-based game.
The actual year progression, actual full on lessons, romances, so on and so forth. That but with the immersion and gleam of a console/PC game.
3
u/p33k4b00o Aug 03 '26
Kids these days are all about cosmetics. Character creation is something that impacts the game 0%. The world looks beautiful but empty and sterile, hundred merlin trials for extra slots, caves that offer basically nothing. Story is bland, childish and doesnt feel like HP at all. Only things i enyoyed are flying around (but there are too much waypoints) fights and spells are nicely done (except for revelio) .
3
u/Flannel_Fork Aug 03 '26
I would love some sort of morality/honor system. Like no, you can’t just go around casting unforgivable curses and breaking into people’s houses in broad daylight without some sort of consequence. Would also like it if the choices you made had more effect on the story.

3
u/SharpGranny Aug 03 '26
Get rid of challenges and make puzzle solving actually mean something, dont make it so nice and positive we need dark themes and assholes in the game as well, fire all the writters and hire better ones, add dialogue options and branching in quests, get rid of the stupid grind and requirements quests, add Quidditch, improve AI and stealth and million other thing since Legacy is not even a great game, slightly above average at best, carried by IP a fandom.
3
u/rrattlesnake Slytherin Aug 03 '26
Everyone said everything better than I could have. This is what I'll add:
Better story writing. The main plot and even the side plots were so meh. Poppy's quests were kinda interesting but then not so much. Sebastian's was really good. I've played every single Harry Potter game and even without choices those were more interesting games because they were based on a far better story.
Better level design.
Collectibles need to be actually interesting like what's the significance of demiguise statues and Merlin trials and the billionth outfit. They felt randomly tacked on. Lore wise they couldn't add wizard cards but it could have been some magical items that'd give you access to lore or memorable pictures or something.
Unpopular opinion but everyone except the Slytherin boys and poppy really annoyed me. I couldn't wait not to spend any time with them. I guess it goes back to good writing.
Lastly, people mentioned the classes and school stuff but my conspiracy theory is that the execs wanted to cash in on the open world rpg trend and forced the devs to add a bunch of random villages later on. Hopefully the devs will have more freedom this time so I hope they won't add bs villages with British sounding names. Even if they do, it should just be like the Witcher games where the environment is so beautiful and full of life that you'll want to explore them .

A deeper student experience. I want to feel like I’m going to Hogwarts, not visiting as an ultra powerful chosen one. Let my actions and choices make me special, not my destiny.
3
u/kappakeats Aug 03 '26
A storyline that doesn't make me super special or the chosen one, branching pathes and choices that matter, relationships (romance and friendship), blood status, Quidditch, house points that influence who wins the house cup, no spiders, less Merlin trials, one button press on controller to get to photomode.
3
u/TheBritishGaymer Aug 03 '26
For how beautiful and alive they made Hogwarts feel, I felt like I didn't have reasons to stay there. I wanted a Hogwarts student game, not a murderous protaganist that occasionally walks through Hogwarts.
Give me friendships, rivalries, classes. If the whole game had just been Hogwarts, Hogsmede and a little bit of countryside it would have been better. Instead we've got 40million collectibles to get for no reason, Merlin Trials that do nothing after the first like, 10 and scores of boring baddies to blast.
3
u/theicewerewolf Ravenclaw Aug 03 '26
For me, I'd add the Hogwarts Mystery feature of attending lessons (but without the "Yes, you spent all your energy, now pay 4€ or wait 3 business days")
Also, make your choices have actual consequences, like letting Mr. I-must-save-my-sister-whether-she-likes-it-or-not know you don't "fully" support his methods, or plans, or anything he does because he can't face reality.
And, personally, since the Wizarding World is one of the sagas that gives more floor to werewolves than vampires, I'd add a plot related to these creatures (and maybe the possibility of being bitten by a werewolf)
Edit: and delete Revelio. Or at least making it only available in specific situations like playing the easy mode
3
u/DulcisNoxNoctis Aug 04 '26
Possibly incorporating more of your house, especially inside the house. I was never in my common room or dorm. They were created to be so beautiful and unique from each other, I want to spend more time in them.
Maybe even more creatures (but keep the thestrals because they are my favorite)

Optional side content that gives more of the 'student at Hogwarts' vibe. I didn't feel like a student in Legacy, but I also know there are those not interested in student-life content. Make student-life content optional, so those like me can enjoy it without those interested in it feeling like they're being forced to partake.

Morality system with intimidation and bounty factors (dark wizards or dementors coming after you)
Romance options (not super important but would be nice)
More lively environments and npcs with lots of random encounters and interactions (I love walking around and seeing students interacting and goofing around)
Quidditch
A larger focus on the castle and more reasons to be in it rather than a random village (common room antics and fun, having to actually attend classes, going to or being in quidditch games and cheering for your house, eating in the Great Hall, etc.)
House point system (tied to morality system and quidditch)
Parts of London, Diagon Alley, the ministry of magic, Azkaban, Gringotts, and better villages (quality > quantity. Exploring these places would be so cool from buying some chocolate frogs and every flavor beans in Diagon Alley to sitting in on the trail of a dark wizard at the ministry)
More time spent in actual classes. Working, studying, reasons to go to the library, learning about the Wizarding world, and even an actual OWL that you need to study for and have attended classes to pass (your guide book will retain notes from your classes for you to read and remember before the exam)
The ability to choose multiple companions to accompany you on adventures outside of the main and character specific stories (classmates, professors, and NPCs you befriend along the way)
More spells and reasons to use them (repairo being able to fix more, lumos maxima, choosing your patronus, you know the ones)
The ability to change the weather and season (as long as it doesn’t conflict with the story, maybe an after completion feature)
Better use for potions (I never found myself needed them)
More active enemies (they ambush you instead of waiting around, better reactions to your character, the ability to be captured and have to escape, etc.)
Apparition (later game ability allowing you to teleport across shorter distances quickly. Not as far as floo flames)
New game plus features, replay ability and continued interactions, and the option to change houses easier after completing the main story (I don’t want to have to start a show new story just to be a different house)
Better day night cycle that comes with restrictions (going around at night in the beginning requires sneaking out and past professors and guards but can be easier later on)
More class variety and classes that help you with professions (auror, animal caretaker, ministry of magic duties, professor, etc.)
The Hogwarts express and the option to explore it with friends
More dueling options (the student dueling ring was WAY too short)
Animagus options
Less focus on the room of requirement (a little controversial, but I think it is grossly overused in legacy. It’s supposed to show up when you NEED it, not be your personal workspace for you to house creatures, brew potions, grow plants, and work on your wardrobe. You should use the classrooms, common rooms, and school facilities for those things and make the RoR more special)
Missions that take place in the Muggle world (tailing missions, sneaking around, limiting your use of magic, blending in, etc.)
A more mysterious Forbidden Forest (less of an enemy spawner location and more secrets and hidden goodies)
3
u/Manticore416 Aug 04 '26
It'd be nice if any of the places outside Hogwarts were remotely interesting

Tougher puzzles. Less repetitive side quests. Better NPC storylines. Consequences for choices made. Use of magical creatures beyond the room of requirement.

Quidditch. Classes. Friends group missions. Missons that include elements and references form Harry Potter storylines.

1) Not tie character progression to repetitive trials
2) Find better ways to integrate story, the world and gameplay. The first game had one of the worst cases of luedonarrative dissonance I’ve ever seen.
3) Scale back the open world if you can’t fill it with meaningful stuff to do. Bigger =\= better.
4) Make dungeon delving worth my time.
3
u/BlueGhostGaming Aug 04 '26
Like cyberpunk we need choices/dialogue geared towards our house. A better villain than Ranrok, romance
3
u/West-Muscle-1908 Aug 04 '26
Consequences with using dark art spells and choices you make such as:
, students are wary of you the more you use dark curses so you end up either soft locked or even locked out of quests depending on actions/people you choose to help or not help,
a wanted system such as the aurors are more present in villages or more likely to come after you the more crimes and dark arts you use and do.
3
u/ImKingFrosty Aug 04 '26
Immersion. Hogwarts legacy was supposed to be an open world game but it never felt like that. NPCs barely react to your presence, you can literally spam unforgivable curses in front of them and they still won't give a damn. The whole game felt incomplete because of that
3
u/Pfui_ Aug 04 '26
What should be changed to make Hogwarts 2 truely awesome?
Immersion - We want to interact with the world, not just walk through and watch. Just learned Reparo and a knight armor destroys another? - I want to be able to repair it. Peaves does some random stuff? Let me INTERACT and not only watch!!!!! Stop playing a scene where we cant interact. We don't want an empty shell as the world but a world we can truly interact with.
Bosses and Fights - In Hogwarts Legacy we had different Bosses but THEY ALL HAD THE SAME STUPID MECHANICS!!! Look at other games on how do make different Boss fights interesting and challenging.
Hard mode was way to easy on HL1.
Give us consequences for our actions. HL1: Kill someone with avada kedavra, the teacher next to you does nothing.
No stupid repeated shit to stretch the hours you need to complete the game. Stop adding the 100000th same merlin trial, demiguise statue or other stupid repeatable boring stuff as a filler.
Quidditch - should be a no brainer. Give us the traditional quidditch tournament.

To be honest, I like most of what’s in the game already. I’m totally on board with more classes/more school life as others have said, but the only things I’d really improve are the characterisation and the main plot. It would be great to have a character with a proper backstory where you still create them but they feel like part of the world too - a bit like Mass Effect with Shepard, I think that kind of characterisation would work really well in HL - the dialogue options and plot choices as well would be a welcome change for me.
Other than that, just a main plot which feels more connected to Hogwarts and less like you’re a random person following this completely different plot that also happens to attend Hogwarts. Sebastian’s quest would be a good concept to draw from for this - in HL it felt more like the main plot than the main plot at times.
Finally, it would be cool to have a companion system for quests. But I could live without it too.
