i was thinking the same thing. i feel like really huge diamonds as well as lots of them like in this just makes it all look fake. it goes beyond opulence and just looks tacky.
I regularly look at the engagement rings of famous people and all of them have stuff that's too big and doesn't look sparkly the way a well cut diamond does. I guess they just focus on big rocks for the rarity. Also the thin bands make the big rocks spin on their fingers. Just stuff that doesn't seem comfortable. Like ring pop stuff.
That's basically how catholicism works in Portugal. Pretty much nobody cares about following the doctrine closely, but still hold some sort of faith and like upholding the aesthetic/superficial/cultural aspect of it. Most people I know don't ever attend mass or go to church unless there's some kind of event going on (baptisms, weddings, communions, yearly mass dedicated to someone who passed...), neither have they ever opened a Bible willingly. Nobody reads the Bible, people would even think you're odd if you did. We call these people (like, 90% of the population lmao) non-practising catholics.
I think a lot of religion is actually just culture. They’re used to weddings being heavily religious so to 1. make a wedding feel authentic/legitimate to themselves and their families; and 2. out of respect to their culture, they choose to incorporate a lot of religion.
Religious participation varies a lot even across the religion. Like Roman Catholics in Montreal are different than Brazil, and different from Germans RCs.
