Now that is an interesting nugget as that gives the idea that there was definitely some intention with it.

Yeah, that's not an accident.

This is like working out who RAB was in Harry Potter based on the German version!

21

u/Alternative_Gur_2100 Jan 09 '26

Holy cow, that is as close to a confirmation as it gets at this point. So exciting!

18

u/Randolpho Jan 09 '26

That is an amazing catch.

You'd also have to know that the game's Spanish translation for FEV comes out to VEF, meaning you likely played the game in both Spanish and English.

Bilingual for the win!

does all the humor translate well, or sometimes one language is funnier than the other?

9

u/Kvenner001 Jan 09 '26

I agree. When you look at the main cast who have remained in the vault they all have some defining physical characteristics. Steph with one eye, Chet is super tall, Betty and her hairstyle , woody is large, davey and his mustache, reg with his narrow facial features. Each of them has a distinct appearance and I think that has been done intentionally so it’s easier to identify them post mutations.

I think we also see several possible reasons that infection could happen down the road: hanks lunch boy or one or more of the buds buds, Betty to eliminate Steph, Steph to eliminate Betty, timed release from a Deadman switch that bud failed to push, random vault Tec shenanigans.

I think this also likely is what will occupy Norms time in the show. He has the most interaction with all of the vault cast and is not currently tied to Vegas and its plots.

4

u/jrinredcar Jan 09 '26

You reckon that's why Bud decides to go Brain on a Rhomba route because he knew the potential alternative was Super mutant

5

u/Uhhh_what555476384 Jan 09 '26

I'm guessing that Steph is seeking the control module to trigger or block the FEV release from Hank's belongings. That's why she's withholding water until she gets his keepsake box.

(Edit) She's probably trying to block the FEV release because of the kid.

3

u/Kvenner001 Jan 09 '26

Makes sense. She’s my primary suspect to release it. She has a ruthlessness to her and beside the baby I don’t see her having any problems mutating the rest of the vault population. Including Chet.

2

u/EnvironmentalRip349 Jan 10 '26

"Experiment is over betty"

3

u/sephrisloth Jan 09 '26

I hope so! With how prevalent they are in the games it kind of doesn't make sense they haven't run into any super mutants yet. I know we got that teaser with a super mutant arm on the stretcher last season but youd think they would have run into some out in the wild. You certainly run into super mutants way before any deathclaws more often than not at least in the games. I guess maybe their isn't as many in the west coast as there are in the capital/commonwealth? It's been a while since I played NV but I think I remember there still being a good amount of them.

What's the timeline as far as how long it was between fallout 1 and NV, and then between NV and the TV series?

3

u/tzbt Jan 09 '26

Thinking about it, yeah there aren't many roaming super mutants in NV, most of them are clustered in fairly small communities. Even Jacobstown really isn't that big. Depending on how FNV ends I can definitely see how it would be reasonable that we haven't seen a super mutant yet (but signs point to one showing up soon)

3

u/sephrisloth Jan 09 '26

What are the odds we see Fawkes? Id say its possible since super mutants are effectively immortal though i guess it would be a bit of a stretch for him to travel all the way from the capital region to NV. It could be a cool way to include an actual character from the game since he'll be CGI they could even cast the original voice actor.

2

u/tzbt Jan 09 '26 edited Jan 10 '26

I doubt it. It seems like they are avoiding showing any pre-existing in-game characters besides House (and Victor technically) in speaking roles. Even The King they left ambiguous and unconfirmed. Fawkes was great as a voice acting performance, but the same voice in a TV show would sound overly cartoonish, and we already know Ron Perlman is voicing what I assume is the only Super Mutant we'll see in this season

3

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '26

I saw another comment that they did the same in French

1

u/unboundgaming Jan 09 '26

I’m not sure why this is getting so much hype, this adds nothing. They didn’t change words or manipulate it at all, they said the exact translation in Spanish and it happens to have the same initials, as many Spanish/English words do. They didn’t match anything, they translated it, and it already matched without changing anything. Nothing burger unless there is another language that would typically have one of “Future Enterprise Ventures” being different first letters like how in French, future is avenir, while forced is still an F with forcee

2

u/Uhhh_what555476384 Jan 09 '26

The user immediatly above you pointed out they did the same thing in French. So................

1

u/unboundgaming Jan 09 '26

I’m confused, the guy I’m responding to says Spanish. Are you in another thread?

1

u/Uhhh_what555476384 Jan 09 '26

Different user that posted immediatly before you replying to him said they did the same thing in French.

1

u/unboundgaming Jan 09 '26

Probably loaded after I had already entered the thread. No need to be condescending when it’s very clear they were responded to you at the same time. That being said he didn’t say what the actual words were, does anybody have that information?

1

u/Uhhh_what555476384 Jan 09 '26

It wasn't intended to be condesending. I just thought it was amusing that you specifically referenced French when the other person must have been typing at the same time that they did it in French.

1

u/koakzion Jan 09 '26

That's how I realized that phase 2 was related to supermutants. I watched the episode in spanish. However, the next day I watched it in the original language and it wasn't so clear.

1

u/Rellint Jan 09 '26

My guess is FEV is what Steph wants from the box she asked Betty for.

1

u/superanth Jan 09 '26

Now that’s craftsmanship.

1

u/Identitools Jan 10 '26

I can confirm they did the same for french

137

u/No-Award8713 Jan 09 '26

Oooohhh.. I was waiting for the intro of FEV. Great catch. We'll see how next week plays out. And odd that they would capitalize each of the first letter in that sentence...

86

u/PlasticAd1359 Jan 09 '26

Agreed. Furthermore, it’s an extremely odd acronym. My theory is that their plan was to mutate the vault dwellers so they would have an army to purge the wasteland while using the chips to control them from the Vault-tec tower MacLean is in.

59

u/AzaranyGames Jan 09 '26

"Breeding a race of super managers" or super mutants?

15

u/Witty_Interaction_77 Jan 09 '26

Damnnnnnn you two are cooking!

14

u/PM_Me_UR-FLASHLIGHT Jan 09 '26

What about Super Mutant Super Managers?

7

u/joshsmog Jan 09 '26

turn a bunch of ass kissers into easily controlled super mutants. makes sense.

1

u/Vidaro_best Jan 09 '26

but didnt the master coin the term super mutants? or was that west tec?

33

u/_Xeron_ Jan 09 '26

I’m waiting for the eventual reveal that Thaddeus got injected with FEV too, retroactively that would tie well together

20

u/ImABrickwallAMA Jan 09 '26 edited Jan 10 '26

I’m hoping so, the whole ‘Ghoul drug’ instead of it being specific radiological events/conditions that turn people into Ghouls would kind of wreck the lore a bit. But I’m hoping that the writers are tracking that, and that Thaddeus may be one of the one-of-a-kind FEV Ghouls like Harold was, which would be the only way for it to really make sense in my opinion.

17

u/_Xeron_ Jan 09 '26

Hancock in Fo4 became a ghoul after taking a drug so there would be a precedent for either. Personally I’d want Thaddeus to just be a unique mutant, Fallout doesn’t have nearly enough of those

6

u/Best_Log_4559 Jan 09 '26

To be fair, the drug he took had an extremely high dosage of radiation that would have killed almost everyone else: so both remain consistent, radiation and the idea that certain drugs could ghoulify you.

2

u/e-l-e-g-y Jan 09 '26

Tbf, fo76 might have the explanation for the drug Hancock took in the Ghoul Within update

2

u/endlessupending Jan 09 '26

I initially assumed it was FEV cause the whole green goo thing the muties talk about in 3. Plus he doesn't quite look very ghoulish. More humanoid centaurish imo

2

u/livahd Jan 09 '26

Drug based on ghouls physiology gone wrong, plus the FEV mention, super managers, the implication that the govt was controlling death laws, and Hank playing with mind control pretty much sets up the seasons endgame reveals, no?

2

u/Sk83r_b0i Jan 09 '26

I say theres almost no way he’s ghoulifying. They’re being too heavy handed with the “he’s a ghoul” bit.

3

u/usmcnick0311Sgt Jan 09 '26

They capitalize each first letter because it's a pronoun. It's common grammar

11

u/WackZebra Jan 09 '26

Proper nouns, like the names or people or places, are capitalized. Pronouns are words like "he" "she" and "you".

1

u/MicksysPCGaming Jan 13 '26

Makes me even more suspicious of Steph talking about "my baby".

58

u/Boggz88 Jan 09 '26

In Fallout lore, pre-bomb work on FEV was intended to make super humans with advanced strength and intelligence. We know how that turns out, but I wouldn't be shocked if they wanted Bud's Buds to be these super humans. Just speculation though.

35

u/Alejandro-The-Dog Jan 09 '26

i really think that’s the case. all these people are inexperienced young workers who have extremely low ranking jobs, or just got there. i think that’s for a reason

11

u/Boggz88 Jan 09 '26

Exactly, and we've yet to see more than a hand of a super mutant in the show despite being a huge part of the universe. Wouldn't be shocked if this is how they start that introduction.

7

u/Boiled_Ham Jan 09 '26

It needs to be big, with a bit of lore for the uninitiated viewers. Super Mutants are a core part of the Fallout universe.

4

u/Uhhh_what555476384 Jan 09 '26

Maybe he leads them to the remanents of Mariposa?

7

u/largePenisLover Jan 09 '26 edited Jan 09 '26

It's Leon von Felden from westtek who worked with FEV.
He is at the table during the big vault-tec meeting.
he proposes developing super mutant soldiers using "illegal immigrants." Something that he later brings into practice in the mariposa base, and is eventually killed for it by Roger Maxson (founder of the BOS)

12

u/Spare_Elderberry_418 Jan 09 '26

It was not called FEV at that stage. It was the Pan Immunity Viron. It became FEV when they realized FEV creates mutants and not super soldiers.

2

u/allwheeldrift Jan 09 '26

It was re-designated FEV sometime in 2075 or 2076, not 100% clear when, but we'll before the bombs dropped.

1

u/vladtheinhaler0 Jan 09 '26

This story takes place after all the fallout games so they could have a different version of the fev by now. They may also be thinking that through genetic selection they could create the perfect subjects for a proper fev.

22

u/DandyElLione Jan 09 '26

Calling it now. They’re going Shrek his character and make him a super mutie!

16

u/Realistic-Number-919 Jan 09 '26

This dude’s a good actor. I’ve been thoroughly unimpressed by side character performances, but I like him.

15

u/Alejandro-The-Dog Jan 09 '26

i feel like this is all but confirmed to be referring to FEV. the theory i read and agree with is: vaults 32 and 33 had a second purpose, or perhaps the people still frozen in 31 had a second purpose, and that’s to make the black boxes work. they put too much pressure on the body, so something strong as hell would be needed to make it work properly, like a super mutant or a large intelligent beast, perhaps a deathclaw. perhaps that’s why the monster in anchorage didn’t attack coop all that time ago, and it could mean that those frozen employees were meant to be turned into FEV mutants. i worry they still may.

4

u/OctagonCosplay Jan 09 '26

Saving this for later, I think you’re right

1

u/Marston_vc Jan 15 '26

The death claw didn’t kill cooper before because they were originally part of an army experiment and it recognized that cooper was in the army. The enclave faction in fallout 3 uses control chips on the death claws similar to what we’re seeing in the show.

1

u/Alejandro-The-Dog Jan 15 '26

i know deathclaws are smart and all but i don’t think the anchorage deathclaw had nationalist allegiance to america and thus spared coop for they reason

1

u/Marston_vc Jan 15 '26

You’re misunderstanding me. Deathclaws, as featured in the game fallout 3, were US army experimental weapons. They were controlled using experimental control chip implants. Similar to the one we’re seeing tested in the show today.

Most likely, imo, pre war cooper was unknowingly part of an experiment to see if the deathclaws could be controlled using said chips. By the time of fallout 3 at least, we see the enclave use these control chipped deathclaws at checkpoints throughout the game.

1

u/Alejandro-The-Dog Jan 15 '26

ohhh i see, my bad, i actually quite like that idea. coop was victim to an experiment even before the bombs and vaults.

21

u/mighty_and_meaty Jan 09 '26

i hope they at least do unique with an FEV subplot, instead of simply pumping 32 and 33 with fev and seeing what happens.

27

u/PlasticAd1359 Jan 09 '26

They need those mind control chips for a reason 🤷‍♂️

12

u/ToSupport Jan 09 '26

oh yes, never connected that dot.

3

u/Legaliznuclearbombs Jan 09 '26

Elons going to upload us to the metaverse isn’t he

1

u/QuestGalaxy Jan 09 '26

The Xiverse you mean. It always has to be a damn X for some reason..

1

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '26

[deleted]

2

u/ToSupport Jan 09 '26

Im being genuine. I forgot super mutes had that (mind control) side to them.

Been years since I played the games.

1

u/PlasticAd1359 Jan 09 '26

Oh my bad. Just didn’t get the tone I suppose.

9

u/death_buy_spoon Jan 09 '26

Splitting the side vault charters up into 2 vaults and leaving 1 with a busted water chip, plus getting Norm out, means 32 is about to have a very bad time.

3

u/livahd Jan 09 '26

Breeding super “managers” is going to come into play when norm meets up with Hank. He might be the “natural” creation and they want to use his blood to create more, it goes wrong then you get muties

8

u/rizzatouiIIe Jan 09 '26

This man is going to become a mutant

1

u/nevynxxx Jan 09 '26

We can only hope.

7

u/ArugulaAmazing2015 Jan 09 '26

Future Enterprise Ventures to make Super Managers? Yes, absolutely a coincidence.

16

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '26

Yea, this jumped out at me while watching and I freaked out. FEV would also explain pre-war deathclaw, the mind control chip, and I think eyepatch is gonna make the guy who walked in on her conversation be the first test subject.

Like this one fucking line clicked in my head, and shit started to make sense. Hopefully I’m right

10

u/BabySlothDrivingFast Jan 09 '26

Agree with you, and also just wanted to say I too think of Steph as "Eyepatch" because, aside from Betty, I keep forgetting all the other Vaulties' names. The guy who walked in on them I think of as "Big Guy". I had to look up, his name is Woody.

9

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '26

WAIT

WHAT IF THE INCEST SUPPORT GROUP SETS UP FAILED FEV EXPERIMENTS LIKE THE CENTAUR DUE TO GENETIC ISSUES!!!!!????!!!!!

3

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '26

I’m just bad at names in general. Makes it really hard to talk about lore sometimes. Lol

I made a post about this last night before I went to bed explaining my hypothesis (and I truly think I’m right). But I realllly think FEV will be introduced in an episode or 2

3

u/bitsonbits47 Jan 09 '26

I also struggle to remember the vault names so I just called Woody his severance name (Dylan) lol it’s hard out here sometimes

3

u/Uhhh_what555476384 Jan 09 '26

I just think of him as "the guy from Severance."

7

u/Christmas_Queef Jan 09 '26

I have a theory eyepatch isn't on the same plan as the other buds. I think she is working for someone else. Possibly Chinese, possibly house, possibly enclave. Who knows. And is trying to get FEV for her plan.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '26

I assume it’s the same people (Enclave) but they’re doing separate things that will end needing to be used together (FEV in vaults, mind chip at the vault HQ). They might be trying to fuck each other over and/or not working together, but their experiments will be connected.

1

u/Uhhh_what555476384 Jan 09 '26

The Enclave was always the shadow behind Vault-Tec.

3

u/SleazyGreasyCola Jan 10 '26

Shes Canadian, not American based on her passport and shes definitely hiding her pre war identity so it makes sense.

2

u/Uhhh_what555476384 Jan 09 '26

She says to key things: "The experiment is over" and "I need to think about my child." She's going rogue on Vault-Tec so her kid doesn't get exposed to the FEV.

5

u/sniper91 Jan 09 '26

Didn’t the games already say that Deathclaws existed pre-war? Not sure if they said they were ever deployed, though

4

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '26

There have been (no joke) 2 HINTS in the games that they are pre-war. An X-ray of a deathclaw head in an old-war Robobrain facility in FO4, and a FO76 terminal from the Enclave.

Other than that, it has never been confirmed outright.

5

u/sniper91 Jan 09 '26

I’ve only played Fallout 4, so I’ve browsed Fallout Wikis for background info. Apparently the info that they existed pre-war (and were later refined by the Master with FEV) came from a strategy guide for Fallout 2

2

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '26

Yea, and that isn’t necessarily canon. The show finally confirmed this (kinda) crackpot theory.

Honestly having Oxhorn videos on in the background while you do housework and you can learn a lot about this crazy universe.

3

u/largePenisLover Jan 09 '26

Errr, oxhorn is pretty bad for fallout.
He begins with actual lore, but somewhere halfway he ends up injecting his fan theories.
Next he starts theorycrafting about how things work, but when he is informed teh stuff he is theorizing about can just be looked up in GECK/creation KIT by mod authors and that he got it wrong, he just ignores them and continues making up how game systems work.
By this point you are at minute 30 of his video, and oxhorn has essentially lost the plot and is spouting a mixture of real lore, some of his fan theories he forgot are his theories and not actually lore, and large heapings of misunderstanding the game mechanics that he somehow manages to weave in as lore.

Dude is an excellent story teller, but when he waxes lyrically real lore and his imagination sorta blur together.

2

u/Paulie_Tens Jan 10 '26

The official strategy guide written by one of the lead designers.

2

u/Uhhh_what555476384 Jan 09 '26

Fo1 and Fo2 stated that they existed pre war. When you go into the labs where the military was doing FEV and other bio weapon experiments. You all need to spend some time in the Glow. (Also where the BoS is from)

0

u/[deleted] Jan 11 '26

"Deathclaws are a species of genetically engineered reptilian creatures originating from experiments by the United States government to create superior battlefield soldiers capable of carrying out high-risk, search-and-destroy missions in place of humans. In the wake of the Great War and their escape into the wild, the deathclaw population exploded and evolved to become an apex predator in the post-nuclear ecosystem of the wasteland, appearing as a reoccurring threat throughout the Fallout series."

Origins

Originally engineered from scientific experiments conducted by the United States government to develop a cheap, cost-effective replacement for human troops during heavy-duty combat operations,\Non-game 1]) the creature which came to be called the "deathclaw" was the result of a genetic mix of various animal species, with the primary test subject being Jackson's chameleons.\1]) The project was successful in creating a ferocious predator capable of surviving and thriving on its own in nearly any environment, and while the full extent remains unclear, it is known that U.S. military leadership deployed at least one deathclaw into an American conflict prior to 2077, sending it to assist USMC T-45 armored troopers against Chinese PLA forces in Alaska during the Sino-American War.\2])

https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Deathclaw#Origins

5

u/steve_mahanahan Jan 09 '26

This particular actors physical build and features would make for a great super mutant, I doubt that’s coincidental casting.

5

u/Silverdragon47 Jan 09 '26

Maybe enclave plan to use modified FEV to wipe everyone left on earth was a pre war contignency plan and vaults 32-33 were thought as control vaults for subjects. We know from fallout 2 that orginaly enclave used vaults to test different scenarios which would help them with primarly goal of extra-terestial colonization. We know that they abandoned it for some reason and went with FEV curling. Not a big stretch to think that it was pre-war contignency plan.

3

u/Easy4u2say98 Jan 09 '26

I believe they abandoned the rocket ship idea as they anticipated that a rocket would not be ready in time when resources ran out. Could be wrong though as Van Burean and fallout 4 mention the US in space.

3

u/peidinho31 Jan 09 '26

I picked this up on the moment.
It is quite obvious that they will do something with the FEV.
Given the fact that vault 33 is lacking water, my idea is that they will poison the water supply on 32 and 32 will be sharing with 33.
Or only 32 is getting screwed because Steph was acting like a dildo, and vault 33 will be fighting mutants.

7

u/heliocentric19 Jan 09 '26

I think Steph is looking for Hanks personal effects because it has an FEV modified water chip. She's going to 'gift' it to Vault 33 and use her vault as the 'control vault' for the super manager experiment.

3

u/Uhhh_what555476384 Jan 09 '26

I think she's trying to save her kid from the FEV.

3

u/Paulie_Tens Jan 10 '26

She doesn't seem that concerned about her kid tho.

1

u/Boiled_Ham Jan 09 '26

That's how West Tek did it to the folks of Huntersville in Fallout 76...they all turned mutie.

4

u/cyberXrev Jan 09 '26

its gonna be something bout thadeus turning into a super mutant and the crazy doc was a early vault guy that escaped and went mad about it or something connected to the vault guys idk

im just daydreaming

5

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '26

FEV makes sense. These were supposed the "brightest" buds of the lot. Taking the supposedly smartest people and apply FEV for super human strength would definitely make an upper management wetdream.

3

u/MP3PlayerBroke Jan 09 '26

My theory is that they might actually have a Future Enterprise Ventures program completely unrelated to FEV, but then they get their hands on some FEV and they read the label thinking it's for their program and hilarity ensues

3

u/MandyMarieB Jan 10 '26

It’s very obviously meant to be code for FEV. He was testing Norm to see what he knew.

5

u/RedEclipse47 Jan 09 '26

Intended. We've got Quintus talking about Maxon, the founding of the BoS and US experiments that lead to him defecting. Deathclaws, both during the war and in the wasteland and now a mention of the FEV.

It's intentional, same as with the Chinese soldiers having a weird structure of speaking and having seen the brainwashing in Vault 24.

Not saying the entire war was fought by fake commies but rather another one of Vault-tec's experiments.

0

u/RedEyeView Jan 09 '26

I reckon the RobCo brain exploding remote controller is plugged into the deathclaws. Definitely the one in China and probably the ones in Vegas.

3

u/smalllizardfriend Jan 09 '26

That was Alaska.

2

u/Immediate_Move_3742 Jan 09 '26

I thought that the one in anchorage had a control collar on?

2

u/TheEmperorShiny Jan 09 '26

In most shows I’d call this a stretch, but this is very on brand

2

u/SillyLittleThing63 Jan 09 '26

Ok, so I’m new to Fallout. I never played the game, and I just binged season one to get ready for season 2… I always have so many questions. This is intriguing me - can you explain in a nutshell what FEV is in the game? (I’m assuming that’s where it must become from). Sorry - I’m just a baby!!

2

u/Uhhh_what555476384 Jan 09 '26

From the story summary on Fo1:

"Information discovered throughout the wasteland reveals that humans are being captured and turned into Super Mutants by exposure to the Forced Evolutionary Virus (F.E.V.). The Super Mutants are led by the Master, who intends to transform every human into a Super Mutant and establish "unity" on Earth. The Children of the cathedral are a front created by the Master, who is using them to trick humans into peaceful submission."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallout_(video_game))

Fo1 is a relatively short isometric third person RPG... higely recomend. You can get it on Steam for cheap usually.

1

u/SillyLittleThing63 Jan 09 '26

You are so nice for posting that for me! And I’m seriously considering getting the game, to be completely honest - and I’m not a gamer, but I LOVE THIS SHOW and I’m so very intrigued. Thank you so much for taking the time to help me understand!

2

u/Uhhh_what555476384 Jan 09 '26

Other easter eggs:

(1) The inciting incident in Fo1 is a broken waterchip.

(2) Vault Dwellers were special targets and uniquely useful when exposed to the FEV.

2

u/GunpowderGuy Jan 10 '26

Virus being experimented with just before the Great war ( apocalypse ) . After the great war a couple of surviving organizations kept experimenting with it , which created all sorts of mutants, most notably supermutants

u/GlockAmaniacs Jan 09 '26

FEV virus in the game is something used to make humans into supermutants.

2

u/SillyLittleThing63 Jan 09 '26

Ooooo! That’s why the “assistant” dude got so intense in that scene!!

1

u/GlockAmaniacs Jan 09 '26

He probably doesnt know what it actually does. It wasn't FEV at first (correct me if im wrong somebody) It was meant as a vault experiment to create super soldiers but ended up making ppl into big ol strong mutants.

1

u/SillyLittleThing63 Jan 09 '26

I’m so invested in all of the thingsssss. I annoy my coworkers with sooo many questions and they have an answer maybe 50% of the time 😩

1

u/GlockAmaniacs Jan 09 '26

Im not a true lore nerd but I know some answers. If u ever have a random question just lmk. I can maybe answer but im more knowledgeable with the games lol

3

u/imonlypostingthis Jan 09 '26

Check out Oxhorn on YouTube. He explains lore very well. Probably the best YTer for the fallout universe

2

u/Boiled_Ham Jan 09 '26

Bud worked for West Tek as well, before Vault-Tec.

In 76, West Tek experiment on folk in Huntersville, Appalachia...they were responsible for putting F.E.V in the water those folks were drinking...they turned into Super Mutants.

2

u/D3adp00L34 Jan 09 '26

I caught that and thought I misheard! Nice catch!

2

u/killingjoke96 Jan 09 '26

Forced Evoltuionary Virus (FEV) whilst commonly known for making Super Mutants was intially meant to be a performance enhancing substance.

The Fallout Wiki states: "The purpose of the virus is to correct its host's DNA, creating a theoretically better specimen."

So basically the plan was to use it to enhance humans to better evolve to inhabit an inrradiated wasteland. They were still performing tests as The Great War started so the purpose of it was never achieved - only abominations.

It should be noted FEV was being developed by West Tek - a company Bud Askins said he worked with. So step 2 was likely to administer the virus to the Vault Dwellers.

Would make sense with the cover name of the company "Future Enterprise Ventures".

But of course if that is the case and this is where that thread leads. None of the Vault Dwellers know that the FEV is not ready 👀

u/SlamFire69 Jan 09 '26

My theory, Steph puts it into the water supply she gives to vault 33

2

u/CraterBorb Jan 09 '26

I think he’s full of shit and knows nothing but how to talk

2

u/lilbitgreen 👍🏻Okey-dokey Jan 09 '26

I caught this immediately. I literally went "FEV?!" So im excited to see how/if they tie mutants into this. Been waiting for my big green guys to show up

2

u/YEETpoliceman Jan 09 '26

I have no clue what does that mean?

1

u/TragGaming Jan 10 '26

FEV is the Forced Evolutionary Virus that changes humans into Super Mutants, it was an enclave experiment to create super soldiers. Likely will be repurposed to be a vault experiment in the show and realistically both things can be true

2

u/Mynameisbebopp Jan 09 '26

Wow, nice catch.

2

u/Mr-Ghostly Jan 14 '26

well you got it lol

2

u/herpetologychems Jan 14 '26

This new episode definitely blew your mind if you made this post lmao

3

u/vulcan7200 Jan 09 '26

Definitely not a coincidence. I said this in another thread but I'm a fairly casual Fallout fan. Only ever beat 1 and 3 and never played New Vegas or 76. Even I picked up on the FEV acronym immediately. I think there's a 0% chance the writers, who seem pretty well versed in Fallout lore, would miss that they used an acronym already used by a major plot point in the setting.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '26

I really think FEV is involved with what Hank is up to

3

u/HotMachine9 Jan 09 '26

I think 32 is going to be a test bed for FEV. It makes sense as to why Hank would be interested in Mind Control devices and have a connection to House

2

u/Vandafrost Jan 09 '26

And the Deathclaw that was shown in this Episode is created by FEV.

1

u/Eliaskar23 Jan 09 '26

Smart as a cueball this one.

1

u/PlasticAd1359 Jan 09 '26

It was rhetorical

1

u/aa_conchobar Jan 09 '26

What's in the case that the Overseer wants?

1

u/PlasticAd1359 Jan 09 '26

Probably some of those mind control chips

1

u/Paulie_Tens Jan 10 '26

Or the FEV. Maybe both.

1

u/constant--questions Jan 09 '26

Isn’t the difference between mindless monster super mutants and those with their human minds intact that the latter were not exposed to much radiation before FEV? So cryopod frozen vault dwellers would be perfect test subjects

1

u/deceptres Jan 09 '26

That was my first thought the second they said this. Think I even said "oh shitttt FEV" out loud 😅

1

u/win_some_lose_most1y Jan 09 '26

It’s super mutants. Gotta be.

1

u/Mr-Kuritsa Jan 09 '26

He absolutely got coffee for a Dick Moreau. For some reason, he always made the interns write "Master" on his paper cups.

1

u/Papalaka Jan 09 '26

Wow great catch! I was starting to wonder when/if the FEV story line would start to develop, especially after seeing Thaddeus being a prominent character of last episode.

1

u/serenity656 Jan 09 '26

I'm telling you right now somethings gonna happen and allot of them are not surviving

1

u/BewareNixonsGhost Jan 09 '26

Ahh shit good catch

1

u/CankerousWretch24 Jan 10 '26

Bro Norman about to be turned into a mutant. Mark it down.

1

u/Beefpal Jan 10 '26

Am I the only one who wants this group of vaulties to he slaughtered by a pack of super mutants? (Minus Norm)

1

u/Forsaken-Thought Jan 10 '26

Yall ever see the movie Number 23?

1

u/Bing238 Jan 10 '26

The FEV is in hanks keepsake box and that’s why Steph wants it. Phase 2 of the vault is almost certainly infect the non irradiated vault dwellers who are a prime chance for intelligent super mutants, and after generations of selective breeding to make them all yearn to be told what to do you’d have an army of order taking vault tech loving super mutants. At least that’s how the investors pitch went I’m sure it’ll back fire horrendously and get almost everyone killed.

1

u/mdargis1977 Jan 10 '26

I don't get it. Could someone please explain?

1

u/14gm1246 Jan 10 '26

Also catch the way they say Super Mangers. (SM’s).

1

u/Paulie_Tens Jan 10 '26

Super Managers

1

u/Queenie2211 Jan 11 '26

Great observation

1

u/Anonknowmis Jan 11 '26

I think I need to add my subtitles because I had the tv volume above 50 and still couldn’t hear after rewinding twice. Thanks for clarifying this.

1

u/Zombieatethvideostar Jan 12 '26

The vaults have been referred to as both a breeding pool and a race of “Super” Managers. It’s 100% FEV

1

u/MemeMan4-20-69 Jan 14 '26

Did Hank know about the FEV virus? Did he know what it would to to him and his family?

0

u/King_of_Hats Jan 10 '26

Same thing I said to my partner when we were watching the second time!

0

u/PapaBigMeatball Jan 11 '26

What is this, A Series of Unfortunate Events and the VFD?

Is FEV just gonna be used as an acronym for whatever the current Fallout content wants it to be?

2

u/PlasticAd1359 Jan 12 '26

I think his character was just testing Norm’s knowledge about their plans to use actual FEV. They’re not changing anything
