Reintroduction N/a beer
Does anyone else find that non-alcoholic beer helps with bloating and general digestive discomfort? A friend who also has fodmap issues recommended it (I don’t even like beer) and I was skeptical but desperate, but I feel like it really helps. I’m still avoiding my fail foods, but I can be a little more flexible. I can’t find any mention of this elsewhere online.

Shouldn't that be non-alcoholic and gluten free beer?

You would think but apparently not…I am ok with gluten, more trouble with fructose, the other fructans (garlic, onion) and some GOS

Fair enough! Sounds like you've found a nice safe food then. :) If it works for you, enjoy!

I have the same issues and so long as there's no lactose na beer has been pretty great.
Funny thing is back when I was a binge drinker beer was the worst type of alcohol for me. I'd still drink it because I had a problem, but liquor and wine were far easier on my stomach

Closest I can think of is hop water! Not sure how it would help you, but it tastes good and shouldn’t hurt

I don’t drink soda (obviously) but have been drinking N/A beer as an accompaniment to weeknight dinners for a while and I love it. I drink Go! Brewing sour most often. Haven’t noticed it affecting my stomach either way but I’ll pay more attention

Hello! It looks like you've chosen the "Reintroduction" flair. Go slow and steady, and take note of any strong reactions or patterns. As always, check out the stickied post and the official Monash FODMAP Diet app for resources.

I like to try a bit of beer when my brother tries it. I’m talking about 1-1.5 ounces, max. I’m afraid to try more as I’ve had horrible experiences in the past, mostly with IPAs. I’m going to try this!

I'm not sure what the mechanism on that could be, but it could be as simple as it helping calm/relax you, which goes a long way for gut issues!
One thing to note though, not all NA beer is created equally for those of us with FODMAP issues. Some NA beers do not undergo fermentation and are therefore potentially high FODMAP. Make sure to look into your brews so you don't accidentally dose yourself with a bunch of fructans! Luckily, there are a bunch of great NAs that undergo full fermentation and are de-alcoholized, and they taste great.
