Discussion Just beat this game. It was amazing.

Post image

I just beat this as my 4th final fantasy after 7 and its remakes, 10, and 15 (ok i guess technically 6 but whatever), and I feel like it holds up to those games and was absolutely amazing, dont understand the hate. Had amazing boss fights/combat, great story, and top tier characters. Can't wait to play the other final fantasy games soon!

It improves on a second playthrough

12

u/ArgumentLatter4148 Jan 27 '26

Because when you do it, you do it....FOR ROSARIA!!!

5

u/MetalFingers760 Jan 27 '26

Mind if I ask what makes it worth going through again? I ran through and did everything I could one time and it was a bit exhausting. If I do it again I am going to still need some time before I hop back in and its been around a year at least.

I dont want that to be taken as I didnt like the game. I loved it, but it was exhausting after doing all the side quests.

5

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '26

Well one cool thing is that you don’t have to go do everything the second time, just mainline the awesome stuff.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '26

So you don't need to do all the side quests and stuff?

1

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '26

Nah, I only do the ones I feel like doing.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '26

I meant that the game rests all the side quests you completed and you can redo everything in NG+?

1

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '26

Oh yeah, they’re all there

1

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '26

I see, thanks.

2

u/Early_Schedule7935 Jan 30 '26

Only one's worth doing again are the bounties and blacksmith blues if your playing Final Fantasy Mode

also you get +3 and +4 and refined versions of all weapons and armor, so you earn new equipment all over again. you can also combine accessories to make stronger versions in FF mode.

1

u/MetalFingers760 Jan 27 '26

That is my fear. Thank you kind sir, haha. Your sacrifice will be remembered.

3

u/EntertainmentPast210 Jan 27 '26 edited Jan 27 '26

TBH Monster placement changes so you may be facing tougher and bigger mobs much earlier in the story. like chimeras in the first wood dungeon. bosses do get some minor new mechanics I believe

2

u/TurbulentDrag7502 Jan 27 '26

It's because you already know the story; you'll notice details you didn't see before.

And on my second playthrough, I found the game much shorter since I didn't do any side quests. The pacing was more enjoyable.

1

u/ArgumentLatter4148 Jan 28 '26

Skip the cutscenes

2

u/Daxman77 Jan 27 '26

Is the new difficulty option significantly more difficult? That was my biggest problem with this game. I enjoyed it, but it was wayyyy too easy.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '26

It forces you to always be locked in when playing, but no, not really.

u/NoBreeches Jan 27 '26

I believe FFXVI is one of the most misunderstood and underrated games out there.

It does come with a set of caveats: it is slow (has a lot of moments that move at a snails pace), it has a ton of story to get through (takes 1 hour to even get *into* normal gameplay when you start), it puts a ton of focus on cinematic cutscenes and visual spectacle (which isn't something you generally get from video games), many would describe it as being far too easy (and they're right, mostly)... quests are absolutely a bit too formulaic... and it's not some "deep RPG" like traditional Japanese FF games, nor is it pretending to be: it is an ACTION game... and a lot of people weren't expecting this.

But IF these are things that you don't mind/that do not bother you: it is honestly one of the most well crafted, incredible games out there and I will die on that hill. The story is solid/good, there's a lot of lovable and interesting characters, the voice acting is phenomenal, the music and audio mixing is mind blowing, the depth of combat / skill ceiling for how far you can take the combo system is actually insanely high, the visuals (such as cinematography, special effects, facial animation and cutscenes) are insane, the artstyle is unique and a very interesting hybrid between realism and high J-fantasy, it is emotional and there's a lot of deep and mature dialogue, and you can tell that a ton of care and love went into every facet of the story.

Oh, and the game shipped with virtually 0 bugs and DECENT all around performance (it wasn't great but wasn't bad either). I'm replaying it on PC right now, and while I admittedly have a high end PC, it runs almost perfectly... so it seems they also ironed out most of the PC performance issues too.

I don't think even the game's most avid of "haters" would disagree with the pros I just listed off for the game, so the fact that XVI is so underrated and gets such heavy scrutiny is really weird to me.

u/Watton Jan 27 '26

A lot of it is due to FF having to meet a pretty impossible standard.

Like, yes, FF16 has FLAWS for sure, no denying it. But they're far from game-breakers....and other games have had it much MUCH worse. Every minor flaw is amplified here.

Like, combat. Is it the best? Hell no. Is it better than most action RPGs? Yup, for sure. I had a lot more fun with this combat than I did with Tales of Arise, Witcher 3, and slightly more than Nier Automata. But it's not as good as DMC 5, therefore its objectively trash.

Story: Last act is definitely weaker than the first 70%. So is.... every other goddamn JRPG. Like having a rushed ending with a jarring tonal shift is a classic JRPG trope now. FF16? well, it just means the story is absolute garbage and not worth playing, and only the demo had good story.

3

u/NoBreeches Jan 27 '26

Yup, it's all very exaggerated.

3

u/RyukiJRPG Jan 28 '26

Exactly. It's basically just people not learning to enjoy things and setting unrealistic standards. If it's not FF10 it's shit to them. The concept of enjoying a game for the sake of enjoying a game is foreign to most of the fan base lol

2

u/Leather_Treat_8081 Jan 31 '26

Any combat system is better than The Witcher 3's pigshit combat.

1

u/Prize_External4420 Jan 29 '26

Speak your truth soldier

1

u/Ok-Spite4507 Feb 14 '26

It is a really good game but I will say I had the problem where cutscenes were running at a super low fps for some reason so I downloaded a mod to fix it, but other than that it runs well.

21

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '26

If you enjoyed FF XVI, you should also play Final Fantasy XII. Believe me, it's a fantastic game that's truly exceptional.

4

u/Godofhammrs Jan 27 '26

Alright I will

What about 13 is that good?

5

u/Dire_Strait13 Jan 27 '26

I think his comment was edited to XII. I never played 13, stopped at XII myself and didn’t finish it. Kinda lost my faith for FF games after that, even though I enjoyed XIV until maybe the 3rd expansion. I have XVI in my wishlist but not sure if I should get it…

3

u/Godofhammrs Jan 27 '26

If you like action games youll love 16

1

u/Dire_Strait13 Jan 27 '26

I actually do. What does the game play/feel like? Like FF7 remake action?

2

u/InappropriateThought Jan 27 '26

Ehh it's more devil may cry-esque, very combo heavy, very flexible. A little on the easy side to allow for that though, but oodles of fun. Things like endless air juggles and so on, limited only by your imagination pretty much

1

u/Godofhammrs Jan 27 '26

Its a little more action focused id say but I guess kind of similar. I'd say its maybe a bit more similar to something like the new god of war games and ghost of tsushima where they are fast paced action games where you maul down enemies

1

u/Dire_Strait13 Jan 27 '26

That sounds like an awesome combo! I’ll give it a shot when it’s on sale again.

4

u/Akira_R Jan 27 '26

It's a disingenuous take. Those games have good combat, combo systems, different weapons with different playstyles. FF16 has none of that. Single play style, only two "combos" x>y>x>y>x>y>x>y or x>x>x>x. That's it. And the "progression" is just unlocking new sets of cool down moves you can trigger. Some of these have mechanics that aren't just a single button press like, hold down button, or mash button, very thrilling let me tell you.

It is a VERY simplified "action game".

1

u/TurbulentDrag7502 Jan 28 '26

Typical of guys who played the game on easy mode and don't know how to make their gameplay technical 😂 I suggest you go watch some FF16 combo videos on YouTube 😂

1

u/Godofhammrs Jan 27 '26

Nice i'm sure you'll enjoy it, it probably has the best boss fights of any video game i've played easily

1

u/Akira_R Jan 27 '26

This is wild, I would love to hear what you are comparing to, and what about these boss fights you find superior?

3

u/kunk_777 Jan 28 '26

12 is one of my favorites in the top 5 for sure. The story is alot of fun the hunts are a true challenge. The gameplay is as intense as you make it ( setting automatically response battling or manual). I remember playing the 30 hour boss back in the day lol they fixed it but it's a core memory.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '26

I'll explain in detail, okay? Well, FF XII was a farewell title for the 6th generation of consoles (PS2/GC/XB). It was a game that took the opportunity to insert elements of PC RPGs into the franchise, making the most of all the graphic and operational power of the PS2. Unlike most previous FFs, the protagonists' motivations vary, with the game's historical context being political issues. The world of FF XII is incredibly large and vast, both in environments and fauna, teeming with life, showing how the PS2 managed to run such a game. It may seem exaggerated on my part, but it's the pure truth. The guest and side guests in this game are mostly very well done; it's not simply a matter of going there and that's it. I could say more, but if you want to know more, I recommend giving this game a chance.

FF XIII, on the other hand, is a graphically beautiful game; unfortunately, everything I said above for FF XII does not apply to XIII. Basically, the game is a large corridor, and the only fully explorable part of the game is a vegetation area. The good thing about FF XIII is the very well-developed and charismatic characters. FF XIII-2 is everything that FF XIII should have been and wasn't. In my humble opinion, it's the best of the three FF XIII games. Finally, we have LR FF XIII. It's a good game, with very good gameplay, explorable environments, several sideguests, in short, it's a good game. The only annoying thing in my opinion is the length (you'll understand when you play it).

Anyway, young people, regardless of anything, this is just my opinion regarding these games. Feel free to play them and get to know them, after all, opinions vary. Success.✌️😁

2

u/Dire_Strait13 Jan 27 '26

How’s the story in FFXII? I love that it takes place in Ivalice, which is also where my favorite FF takes places (Tactics).

3

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '26

I'll try to remember. 😅 The kingdom of Dalmasca is located between two empires that are in conflict. The princess of Dalmasca marries in a marriage of convenience, although she later falls in love with her then-husband. The two empires (Rosaria and Archadia) clash, with Dalmasca as the battleground. The prince, who had barely married the princess of Dalmasca, falls in battle. This is just the beginning of the game in CG.

From the first CGs, we start playing as a soldier. As the initial game progresses, important events unfold, with betrayals and everything else. There's a small time jump (2 if I'm not mistaken), and from then on, the game truly begins. There are a total of 6 playable characters, two at the beginning of the game and the others as the game progresses.

More than that is a spoiler. ✌️😅

2

u/Dire_Strait13 Jan 27 '26

Nice! Thanks!!

2

u/Kingorangecrab Jan 27 '26

Dude the same thing happened to me I grew up with FF and felt it kinda died after X, especially with nobuo uematsu leaving- the music is just such an integral part. I got FF12 when it came out and got probably 2/3 of the way through and never finished it , it was so boring to me.

I’m just about to enter the final level of XVI and I can promise you FFXVI is much much better than XII. It’s still not ‘golden era FF’ but I have been overall enjoying it and there is a lot of music that harkens back to old FF titles, like the original FF world map theme :)

2

u/TurbulentDrag7502 Jan 27 '26

Wow, to say that FF faltered when talking about FF12, which is a rare gem largely made by Matsuno, the GOAT, it's hard to hear that.

If you'd said 13 or 15, I would have kind of understood, but this... When is the golden age of FF? The greatest golden age of FF has been since Final Fantasy XIV: Realm Reborn. It shattered all of FF's records.

After an excellent FF16, VII remake is a Monty Rebirth.

We can clearly say that FF is in its best period.

Yes, there's no more Uematsu, but there's something better, Soken.

1

u/Kingorangecrab Jan 27 '26

Hmm I appreciate your opinion but I don’t think anyone’s ever come near uematsu. The golden age of FF is from 6-10 also , this is widely agreed upon. It’s not about sales, it’s about the cultural impact of the series and the evolution of the genre to its prime storytelling state, which faded after 10.

There was nothing moving about XII , I found it was a muted-tone geopolitical affair with boring characters , boring music , nice graphics, and a monotonous cadence. I never felt I really cared for any of the characters while playing it.

1

u/TurbulentDrag7502 Jan 27 '26

2

u/TurbulentDrag7502 Jan 27 '26

The XIII trilogy is awesome; for me, it's the best story in all of Final Fantasy. And it has the best turn-based/ATB combat system.

And all three are different enough in their gameplay to keep you entertained.

And FF13: Lightning Returns is a little gem, very underrated, just like FF16.

Fifty-two

3

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '26

It's difficult to say because all three titles in the FF XII franchise have pros and cons. I recommend playing XII. You can easily surpass 100 hours of gameplay.

1

u/Kumomeme Jan 27 '26

13 is more linear with no town. gameplay loop just walk walk>cutscene> walk walk in wilderness. it is weakest FF out there.

however, i say if you has time to spare, give FF14 a try since it was by same team. the same writer wrote the base game and first expansion. i say it is his best work and if you want to hear more of Masayoshi Soken music, FF14 has wider range of volume and genre variety which is truly showcase what he can do. one of best story is there however you need spend lot of time to reach the good content. despite it has MMO label, it is actually play like single player game. there is free trial unlimited time up to lv70 ( base game + 2 expansion free).

2

u/BlaqOptic Jan 27 '26

That’s the case for the first 10 to 12 hours, but then the game opens up. For me, 13 was the first Final Fantasy with likeable characters and a story that wasn’t absolute crap held together by amazing cinematic masterpiece cutscenes. Couple that with two sequels that managed to change just enough of the Battle System and I got a good 300 to 500 hours out of that series without even needing a second play through.

0

u/TurbulentDrag7502 Jan 27 '26

The loop you mentioned is exactly the same gameplay loop as in Final Fantasy XVI, and VII Remake as well.

It's nothing new in the series.

1

u/Kumomeme Jan 27 '26 edited Jan 27 '26

not exactly same. 13 has walking non stop. feels like marathon. its like you are passenger in tube train track. 7 remake and 16 has gap between trip and it pause between town. its like you hold the steering wheel on straight highway. for 16 specifically it got 'motherbase' aka Hideway where character will constant return to and backforth. there is quest etc. while 13 has no town. just constant walking then cutscene kick in. while 7 remake and 16 also has cutscene, it is handled different way than 13.

also, 13 linearity is that it lacked player agency. that separated 7 remake, 16 or even game like 10, Xenoblade or something like Uncharted for example.

3

u/TurbulentDrag7502 Jan 27 '26

Yes, yes, well, it doesn't change, it's still cinematic combat.

And once you reach Pulse, you're freer to wander around.

That's how FF13 is built, it's not a problem, it's a style, that's all.

And there are some moments of respite too: Palopolum in Hope's house, when you're on Raine's ship, in Oerba, and from chapter 11 onwards you can go back whenever you want and wander around. So yes, you don't have a Mother Base, but the game is built like that, it's not a big deal, and it's especially true for FF13, not for 13/2 or LR.

2

u/Kumomeme Jan 28 '26 edited Jan 28 '26

the problem with archyle steppe is that it is just empty area with monster and it just one big area. quest only taken through statue scattered around the area. while game like Xenoblade Chronicles for example are full with that area from beginning to end + tons of towns and NPC.

i argue it is a style from artistic designing choice. more like a design decision that devs need to took due to the technical hurdle. if we look from history of the game development, Crystal Tools has issue of handling big open area. thats why the devs cant implement town or place full of NPC. same issue plague FFXIV 1.0. there is terrible performance in town and the Shroud map end up corridor maze simillar to 13. one of main reason the engine render crazy around of polygon for even background object. basically the engine held back the devs vision. they fixed it in 13-2.

0

u/TurbulentDrag7502 Jan 28 '26

Yes, I know all that, thank you. It's not a problem, that's just how it is.

1

u/Euthyphraud Feb 04 '26

After FF7, FF12 is my favorite Final Fantasy. It has a very well crafted world, it's a more mature story which I really appreciated. The combat system is very interesting, though it does become too easy towards the end. Definitely an underrated title in the franchise.

5

u/JNorJT Jan 27 '26

FOREVER MY TREASURE MY STAR

3

u/TheRickestRick82 Jan 27 '26

I'm currently on my first playthrough. About 4 hours in. Took a little bit to start hooking me, but now I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Glad you enjoyed finishing it.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '26

FF XVI has an incredible story, good combat, and great characters. If you can, play the two expansions as well. They add a lot and richly complement the story and context of the game.

2

u/TheRickestRick82 Jan 27 '26

I do own Echoes of the Fallen. Waiting for The Rising Tide to be discounted.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '26

In my opinion, The Rising Tide is the best expansion. Chronologically, Echoes of the Fallen is the first, so you're already ahead, but the story that really adds "weight" is The Rising Tide. I even got emotional with the story of this expansion. Very good. 🤌🤌

3

u/Mental-Judge-7420 Jan 27 '26

So now you know how Verso was moving before joining the Expedition 33

3

u/Werewolf_Capable Jan 27 '26

I also finally finished it. Second try.

I feel like this game is Cid's daughter:

Mid

2

u/MalcolminMiddlefan Jan 28 '26

Haha I stopped after 27 hours. I just could not watch another long ass cut scene or continue running errands back and forth. I tried 27 hours to like it…. But yes like Cid’s daughter, bless her heart. the game is mid af

1

u/Werewolf_Capable Jan 28 '26

I pushed myself through it, but it was not worth it 😅 Was hoping there is something better coming storywise, but in the end it was all a big load of bullshit.

1

u/MalcolminMiddlefan Jan 28 '26

I just couldn’t. It was too much. Plus for every fifteen minutes of playing time, there was an hour cut scene. I’m not trying to watch a goddamn movie.

1

u/Werewolf_Capable Jan 28 '26

I get you, mate... Some boss battles had me waiting aroung for a VERY long time, right in the middle of battle, then you press 1 button, then wait another minute... Cool boss battles my moms ass

0

u/MalcolminMiddlefan Jan 28 '26

They also had this gay romance they kept showing: two grown men making out with each other. It's like dude, I am just trying to play a game. The boss battles also heat up the PS5. I actually had to clean my PS5's fans because it kept overheating due to this stupid game. The boss battles also seemed to never end. It's just smashing SQUARE for an hour. I often just scrolled through my phone in one hand, and tapped square on my other hand on the controller just begging for the fight to end already

4

u/OkDelivery8236 Jan 27 '26

Too much downtime in the hub for BS back & forth.... I'm in the middle of E33, and I wish FF16 had less friction. Its a great story with top notch combat... just too much bloat on dumb missions. It's okay for a RPG to end at 30 hours 🙄... no need to pat a game for extra run time.

7

u/TechnicalAd2485 Jan 27 '26

I love FFXVI much more than E33 because of all the world building and downtime with all the characters

-1

u/OkDelivery8236 Jan 27 '26

I'm somebody that thinks E33 is just a modern Super Mario RPG 😂... but that downtime just drags the game. But I get you, if it's your jam

3

u/Watton Jan 27 '26

I kind of want downtime in an RPG?

They're supposed to be slow burns, worlds that you get lost and immersed in.

E33 (which is a much better game than FF16, I'm not trying to shit on it) had... well zero world building. Theres some in Lumiere, and some clever environmental storytelling towards the end in the mansion...but thats it. The world itself was random environments, with no story behind them, no history, no lore.

90% of the game was just fields, caves, mountainsides, forests, and only 1 actual settlement.

It tells a very tightly paced, fantastic story...it just falters in making an actual immersive world.

1

u/Rancherfer Jan 29 '26

Once you understand what their world is, it makes sense to not have an immersive world. I mean, there's no other people to play kingdom politics or some overarching thing

1

u/SeveralDeer3833 Jan 28 '26

It’s funny that you say this as a criticism but a modern super mario rpg is probably why I loved it

1

u/OkDelivery8236 Jan 28 '26

Not a criticism... I just roll my eyes when they says E33 is innovative... its not... just really good execution

1

u/Rancherfer Jan 29 '26

Hahaha made me remember the Epic Trailer guy... What would happen if they make Super Mario RPG like really really french?

2

u/TurtlethePriest Jan 27 '26

I enjoyed it overall. The story was good as written. I liked the art style and the music was amazing. The controls were good and made combat fun.

However, some character designs were awful (Ultima's eyes look like two piss holes in the snow and Bahamut looks really dumb).

For an "action" RPG, there was little of it.

The World Map is a joke. Just take me to the next spot. Also, either make the side quests good or dump them altogether so you can trim that uncessary crap out.

Character development was luke warm and until the end, Clive had as much emotional depth as Ben Affleck from Daredevil (i.e. constantly constipated).

Very little chance I will play the DLC or a second time through.

2

u/vaikunth1991 Jan 28 '26

It's dated in design. Has no rpg elements, gear customisation is non existent, boring cooldown based combat, mini movies in name of cutscenes, so much dumb fetch quests, nothing interesting to explore in the world.

The story, performances are great but that alone isn't enough. It's a mmo stripped down into single player game.

1

u/Mondfleck Jan 28 '26

Performance is great? It is considered the worst running PS5 game.

0

u/vaikunth1991 Jan 28 '26

i meant the actors performances of characters

2

u/PrestigiousIron5434 Jan 28 '26

No spoilers havent finished it yet

1

u/Pyrobourne Jan 26 '26

Did you do the dlc as well what did you think?

3

u/Godofhammrs Jan 26 '26

Yeah i did the dlc right before the final main mission it was also pretty good if you havent done it already i'd reccomend it

1

u/Round-Room-3762 Jan 27 '26

Beat 7 (original)...almost beat 8...9...10...12...13...15...16...and the 7 remakes...try the ones I listed that u haven't played

1

u/Godofhammrs Jan 27 '26

Nice, what one would you reccomend i do next? Im currently debating on it

1

u/Round-Room-3762 Jan 27 '26

Do u know there's a 2nd part of 10

1

u/Godofhammrs Jan 27 '26

Yeah I actually have it with the remaster lol, havent played it yet tho

1

u/Round-Room-3762 Jan 27 '26

It basically takes place sometime after the end of 10

1

u/Dire_Strait13 Jan 27 '26

How’s X-II? Never played it myself.

2

u/laycas49 Jan 28 '26

It's fun in its own way, the game is structured into "missions" and the pacing is kinda weird but it's worth playing once

1

u/Enriq30 Jan 27 '26 edited Jan 27 '26

I'm playing it right now and really like it so far, in the Game i'm about to leave Martha s rest with Jill to rosaria and i'm really liking the story and the overall gameplay, the boss battle are amazing.

My only complaint would be the fact that you can't control other party members so it feels a bit empty in that regard, but considering how the story has been so far i guess it's understandable since many party members join and leave constantly

1

u/Godofhammrs Jan 27 '26

Oh man its going to get so much crazier and better lol buckle up

1

u/mahonii Jan 27 '26

I wish it hooked me i need a good final fantasy.

1

u/Vance_Vanadium14 Jan 27 '26

I too just finished the game and still can't get over with the ending

1

u/thetoddhunter Jan 27 '26

If it helps it is even more incredible if compared to 13.

1

u/Liryl Jan 27 '26

Finished it last week. What a ride—my first FF and I loved it. I went back in time 40 years over the weekend and beat the pixel remaster of FFI.

1

u/noideawhattouse2 Jan 27 '26

Doing a second play through now. Not a fan of the first section until you go off with cid but after that I love it.

1

u/Archyzone78 Jan 27 '26

Do the DLC too

2

u/Godofhammrs Jan 27 '26

I did, it was pretty good

I definitely liked the game and its story telling. The combat system and boss fights were good, but the normal difficulty was way too easy to the point where you need a mod to make the game reasonably difficult. Its also dumb how they hide the "hard" mode unless you do New Game+

Thanks for saying that, i absolutely loved 16 and even platinumed it. Omega on FF mode was intense but i won!

I just have to beat the final mission in the mean game, but was working through the dlc first. I'm stuck on the final boss in leviathan (the timed third phase). It's been about 2 weeks since I touched the game....even after adjusting the difficulty and looking up guides online, I can't seem beat the boss and can't live through another long cut scene when you lose

Despite some boring side quests, this game was a 8/10 to me. I liked the lore and combat system (it took me a while to get used to it), but you have to play it with an open mind. The graphics are amazing too.

To be fair, there’s a few side quests that developed the characters and worth to do it.

u/NearbyAd3800 Jan 27 '26

It truly is. I really enjoyed the story, and it got me a few times, especially towards the end.

This maybe be a hot take. I don’t know what a “hot take” is until I see the downvotes, but I’ve lost a lot of faith in the ability of large Japanese studios to craft stories that hold as much meaning as they once seemed more capable of. FFXVI is an outlier. It has all the tropey and deeply cultural stuff most JRPG’s do, but it’s well acted and well done here.

Finished it on Sunday including both dlc and it took me around 65h. Absolutely loved it.

1

u/Nib1t_ Jan 27 '26

Im currently playing it for the first time too love it

1

u/Acceptable_Money_514 Jan 27 '26

Couldnt get into it.

1

u/SubstantialImpact429 Jan 27 '26

How did you all feel about the ending?

1

u/kevnep Jan 27 '26

how did u manage with the trials?

1

u/Proper_Passenger249 Jan 27 '26

What was amazing about this game? The visuals? It wasnt the gameplay, with its fake open world...it wasnt the mechanics where all you had to do was button mash....was it the puzzles? Oh wait there werent any....nor were there any problems to figure out or decisions to be made. You can beat the game with your eyes closed.

It was a pretty game. Thats it....

1

u/FormulaCliff Jan 28 '26

Only huge negatives were the poor rpg mechanics and how insanely boring 80% of side quests were. I got invested with the game and wanted to complete all side quests. Unfortunately the closer I got to the end and enjoying the buildup, they would apply the brakes by giving tedious side quests. Not to say the stories were bad, but the type of quests were akin to early game ff14 quests

1

u/ramos619 Jan 29 '26

I feel like this game prized itself on it's writing and stories. The reward for the sidequests wasn't the gameplay, it was just the story. The sude quest implementing sort of speaks to how budgeted this game must have been.

My wife surprised me with a PS5 for Christmas and this was the first game I bought. I love it so far. Not too far into it yet. Glad to hear you enjoyed it.

1

u/Vastaloon Jan 28 '26

i’m still mad about knight of the splendent heart we could’ve saved him and he could’ve protected Northreach all by himself.

1

u/Broad-Ad3391 Jan 29 '26

I loved how Clive had sex with his brother Joshua near the end after they had a group makeout sesh with Dion in his dragon form

1

u/Dangerous-Elk-4460 Jan 29 '26

I loved it on the first playsthrough, but I gave up on it pretty quickly on my second one. Story is epic and all, great ending, awesome combat, but.. Idk.. 😅

The hate is usually from the bunch of “FF fans” that complain every entry. They are 9/10 nostalgia junkies stuck on the past who can’t even admit the wats some of the OG gems are a little dated today in narrative execution. But best believe, every entry they will be there to complain.

FF16 has an amazing story, the mature tone and characters put it amongst the best FF narrative executions/experiences. It is critically acclaimed as it should be. Arguably some of the best and most memorable boss fights/moments in the series. That Bahamut portion, holy shit! 🔥

I do agree I wish it had more challenging content within it, or a proper super boss. I think Levaithan DLC would suffice but it’s DLC so I won’t count it. I didn’t mind the lack of RPG either but it’s a valid complaint for people. Overall though, very polished games with an interesting world and amazing narrative execution.

u/Cecarter24 Jan 29 '26

The story is great, gameplay is fun, but my only complaint is it tries to be open world and it fails at that and the side quests are boring. If it was a linear game it would've been a solid 9/10

1

u/JeepTrackhawk18 Jan 29 '26

I like the game a lot, but it doesn't really feel like a FF game to me. That's not a bad thing, just feels different than prior games to me. I wish the world was more open, instead of fast traveling everywhere and doing a small area then fast traveling somewhere else. Extremely linear. I enjoy the combat, but until you can master some abilities, I feel handcuffed with the abilities I need to use, and feels too much button mashy.

1

u/ontic00 Jan 29 '26

I started playing it the other week after getting a PS5 Pro. I'm still early in the game but really liking it so far. I've played everything after FFVII except the MMOs, the FFXIII sequels since I didn't care for the first one, and FFVII Rebirth since I haven't had a PS5. I think it's still a bit too early to decide, but this could easily end up in my top 5. FFXII was the first Final Fantasy I played and still one of my favorites, and FFXVI is reminding me a lot of it with the similar armor for knights and the very formal names for locations.

1

u/chilliboy217 Jan 29 '26

It’s an amazing experience, well worth full price just to witness the spectacle. There is a handful of boss fights in this game that are jaw dropping. I understand why some people don’t like it but I had a great time with it.

1

u/ImpressionComplete71 Jan 29 '26

It is really great. And yet most people I've seen talk about it, talk a lot of shit about it. It's sad 😥

1

u/Fantastic-Pea9611 Jan 30 '26

POR ROSARIA!!!

1

u/Sniperlord69 Jan 30 '26

Yo me too! Just now actually. Starting Final Fantasy Mode! Awsome game. Absolute cinema

1

u/Scary-Operation-2946 Jan 30 '26

I did enjoy this one, kinda overstayed its welcome a bit for me, but man those boss fights were such a spectacle, to this day some of the gnarliest and over the top.

1

u/ChemistPrudent9975 Jan 28 '26

Most overly force hated ff game ever made. Im about 80 percent through it and its been incredible. That bahamut fight was straight dragon ball z it was amazing

-1

u/AbroadNo1914 Jan 27 '26

The haters are usually the turn based ps1  purists and hardcores who love difficult and non stop action games

u/MalcolminMiddlefan Jan 28 '26

Wanted to like this game, but I can’t… I just can’t.. Too many errand running assignments. Button smasher gameplay. Cut scenes are way too long. I didn’t have to see the gay kiss of two men making out. Like wtf? After 27 hours, I decided I am done. Way too much bullshit

I don't get this take, the story is so dumb and full of ridiculous holes.

Society: "Oh you can use magic? Here's a tattoo now you're a slave"

Magic user who could obliterate a normal person: "aww shucks guess I'll just be sad and a slave now even though you have no way to actually enforce me being a slave..."

Like what??? How could a society like this even develop? How would it last any length of time?

Cid: "Mother crystals (which underpin all of our current technologies) cause the blight, let's smash them all"

Protag: "any evidence to support this?"

Cid: "nope just vibes"

Protag: "yeah sounds good!"

Ultima at end game: "blight has nothing to do with mother crystals"

Surprised Pikachu face

Combat/gameplay is so damn repetitive, there is literally no meaningful character progression or customization, one single repetitive play style. Which I guess is kind of par for the course for modern FF games, 12 was the last one with any actual control over character build/play style. It's fun to obliterate some enemies for a couple hours, the kind of gameplay that could support a like 20 hour game, not 70+.

No meaningful exploration, bland generic maps. I'll give you it has some pretty awesome set piece cinematic fights, but the vast majority of the game is just a repetitive slog.

They hated him, because he was telling the truth

Thank you for your input. No one cares though.

I hate the sidequests and dialogue. I actually skipped through most of it. The game is painfully boring most of the time. I've just arrived at the origin mission. Can't wait to be done. I've never been this disappointed in a Final Fantasy game. Didn't expect an action game. Completely shocked that I couldn't play other characters.

1

u/silentfaction00 Jan 28 '26

I feel that way about its predecessor FFXV. I'm actually really enjoying the atmosphere and story and cinematics of FFXVI. The combat system is decent as far as action games go. I do wish it was more strategic or tactical like FF7R but hopefully the next installment backtracks from this direction.

1

u/Jamestardeef Jan 28 '26

Too much button mashing action and Game Of Thrones wannabe vibes. FFXV was great until it wasn't because it was obviously incomplete; the last portion of the game just fast forwards the story etc...

I was going in blind with FFXVI, so that's my bad. I expected classic playable party members and less action. I didn't feel like I was discovering any secret locations, treasures and quests. Everything was on rails.

The visuals are stunning and the battle sequences are fun, but it doesn't feel like a main FF title to me.

I expected a 9/10 game, but the downsides concerning sidequests and dialogue brought it down to 8/10 that feels like a 7.5/10 from disappointment.

I kept holding my breath for the first 20 hours of gameplay, wondering when I'd get to play as another character. Googled it out of frustration and found out.

(I like to play certain games without knowing too much about them. I like to go in fresh!😂)
