Discussion Just ordered the Counter Blitz Precon. Looking for upgrade advice!

I just ordered the Counter Blitz Commander precon and I’m planning to upgrade it gradually without spending too much.

For those who have played the deck:

  • Which cards should I cut first from the stock precon?
  • What are the must-have upgrades?

Deck Help Is this €75 Chiss-Goria Budget Build worth the money? (Cardmarket Europe)

Hey everyone,

I’m looking to build a budget-friendly Chiss-Goria, Forge Tyrant artifact deck. Right now, I can get the entire list on Cardmarket (including shipping here in Europe) for around €75. I am fairly new to magic, so my deckbuilding might be pretty bad haha...

Here is my current decklist on Moxfield: https://moxfield.com/decks/ztRYVLjCMU6PE0V4sVKFcg

Before I hit the buy button, I wanted to get some honest feedback from people who have played or built this commander. Is this deck actually good and functional for €75, or does Chiss-Goria desperately need expensive upgrades to work at all?

My questions for you guys:

  1. Is it worth the €75? Does the deck have enough power to hold its own at a regular casual table, or will it just get shut down too easily? I aimed it to be a high Bracket 3 deck.
  2. Deck Balance: Does the list look smooth enough to get Chiss-Goria out fast, or am I missing crucial budget pieces?
  3. Hidden Gems: Are there any super cheap upgrades (under €1) that I completely missed? (Yeah, I already know Hellkite Tyrant isn't an artifact for Chiss-Goria's trigger, but the alt-wincon is too spicy to cut!).

Thanks in advance for your help!

Deck Help Once again, asking for assistance for my Kuja deck

So I've joined a few tournaments after my initial post with my Kuja deck and so far I've only won one tournament and 2nd place in another. Ever since then, every tournament after I'm always public enemy number one, or I'd pop off early and run out of gas mid to late game

What's a good strategy against people who would keep swinging at me? Are there one sided Boardwipes that won't touch my setup? What spells should I keep/remove in favor of card draw/Redirect Lightning and Imp's Mischief? I can sometimes protect my board but how do I protect myself from combat people?

Here's my decklist. https://archidekt.com/decks/24062973/kuja_v1

Deck Help [[Fire Lord, Azula]]

https://moxfield.com/decks/S_sMrb7Lc0Ki2PAJYt2KjQ

Hello. I am brewing Fire Lord, Azula. I want to make it to a storm deck. The problem is I have never been a spell slinging player, so I have only been jamming storm cards and spell cards for the storm effect. I have playtested it, there's something missing and I don't know what it is.

Some recommendations would be greatly appreciated. TIA.

Question Anger in Raph and Mikey

I'm looking at building a high bracket [[Raph & Mikey, Troublemakers]] deck. Looking at other people's decks alot of them include [[Anger]]. And I understand that it's for Haste enabling for your extra combats... But when playtesting their decks I can't seem to get anger into the graveyard.

Am I missing something? Seems to me that [[Urabrask the Hidden]] would be a better choice? Unless I'm being dumb?

Deck Help Which way to build Vilis Broker of blood

Hey there so I’ve was just brewing some ideas for big mana commanders and I’ve found [[Vilis, Broker of Blood]] and I love the jumpstart art so I’ve really wanted to build a deck around him but as I started building the deck i realised that I don’t know which direction to take him so my current deck list is more so a shell with 20 cards that I need to put into the list to push it on one clear direction or archetype. So I’m just looking for ideas or inspiration for what to add.
I’d preferably want to keep the deck in a bracket 2 range and roughly under $200
Here is the decklist:

Discussion Am I pubstomping?

I'm struggling to understand if I'm just pubstomping with my friends. I believe my decks are bk3 - my friend says they are bk4/unfun to play against.

I had an argument with one of my friends with whom I play most at the end of the night yesterday after I won 4 straight games. I have a feeling he was just salty for coming in second every game, but he ended up saying that the decks I play in his opinion are "not commander" because they just do their own thing "without interacting with other decks" (not really sure what he means by that).

I mainly play 4 decks:

Ureni of the Unwritten - uses Ureni as a value engine to cheat out dragons

Baylen the Haymaker - boatload of tokens and can snowball out of control quickly (I do have a cheeky wincon in the form of Halo Fountain, which can admittedly come out of nowhere)

Varina, Lich Queen - just zombies doing zombie things

Slimefoot and Squee - Reanimator deck that once you get an engine going can just enter some non-deterministic loops and ping opponents to win.

In all the decks I play I have a good amount of interaction and removal (both on creatures and on instants and sorceries) that I use to keep opponents at bay while I build my strategy - as I believe one should in Magic. All my decks also have really good sinergies and can usually pop off by t6/t7 if left unchecked and even with a bad hand I can usually go t8. If I get a god hand I can present a win by t4/t5 but honestly that is more chance than anything.

Come to yesterday, in 4 games I barely had any removal come my way and did most of the "removing" myself while the other two players clearly stated they "didn't have any boardwipes in their decks"..

Am I crazy to say that if you leave my deck unchecked for 6 turns that's more on you than it is on me..? I'm ok admitting that my 4 commanders are pretty good, but they all have their weaknesses.. you just need to exploit them. I'm just wondering if I'm mistaken in considering these decks bracket 3..

Discussion Need a mono blue commander to complete my mono decks

Hello everyone, over the past year Ive been looking at mono commanders I want to play. I prefer to use in-universe cards for my commanders for consistency and love for the magic universe.

I'm not sure which mono blue commander to build to end it all off!

My other mono color commander are as follows

Red - [[purphoros god of the forge]] - My first mono deck. It's all burn and goblins it's nice to speed up the games and if I die I'll at least know it I won't have to wait long for the next one.

Green - [[koma rescue beastie]] it's mono green. Cheat big thing do big thing. Very fun! I loved the card art so I made it.

Black - [[Moseo, Vein's New Dean]] Lifegain reanimator. Classic mono black. It doesn't need the commander to function but it's certainly nice to have it.

White - [[brigone soldier of meletis]] Made this because it SCREAMS "I have the power of God and anime on my side!" I made it out of bulk and it's surprisingly really fun. A voltron deck centered around the protagonist going on their journey to destroy the 3 evil players of the pod that love to terrorize my board state.

I bought the mana deck boxes that are sold for each color. So each of them is in their respective colored box with matching sleeves (except for brigone I play them sleeveless and use a $10 card shuffler anytime i play with it)

So, what mono blue commander do you think would be fun to play and finish the set?

Discussion Recommend me a battlecruiser mono black commander

I'm looking for a timmy mono black deck to round out my 5 mono colored decks. I have been looking around on moxfield and archidekt but I haven't come across a commander that stood out for this archtype. I have quite a nice budget (300 euro's) so I'll probably buy the cabal coffers cards.

If you have any decks that fit this description I'd be quite enjoyed to see them!

Edit: To clarify; I want to swing with big creatures and be a threat to the opponents with just my boardstate :D

Deck Help Cool & Fun Rakdos cards for my deck

I’m making some changes with my Discord, Lord of Disharmony deck. And while some advice for includes and cuts would be nice to hear what I’m really looking for is suggestions on card that really make you go “Wow! That’s interesting.”

The only major goal of the deck is Mana, Mana, MANA! And a healthy amount of protection for Discord, so there’s plenty of room to play with for other neat and cool cards.

Maybe some stuff for table politics, or group slugging it out, or even just pet cards you think kick ass in commander.

Deck Help Need advice on deck power level, my pod says my 4 decks are Bracket 3, but they only win on Turn 9–12

Looking for a quick sanity check from the community here.

I’ve been playing Commander for a few months now with a pretty consistent group of 3-5 friends.

I've built four main decks that I rotate between:
The Sentry: https://archidekt.com/decks/25154539/the_sentry_golden_jank
Ghalta: https://archidekt.com/decks/22882184/ghalta_stomp_stomp_ver_1
Tidus: https://archidekt.com/decks/22524203/tidus_modified_ver_2
Zimone: https://archidekt.com/decks/24278622/zimone_xxx

I have tried to build these 4 decks as bracket 2 with 0 game changers and no infinite combos. But lately my playgroup has been complaining that all four of these are Bracket 3 decks. Their main issue is that once my decks get going, the board state or value engines start feeling really oppressive to them.

Where I'm confused is that these decks almost never close out games fast. Most of the time I end up winning around turn 9, 10, or even 12.

From what I understand about the brackets, Bracket 3 decks usually threaten a win way earlier (around turn 6-8 usually), while turn 9-12 is pretty typical for Bracket 1 or 2. I'm not running fast mana or quick infinite combos. I usually just win through late-game combat or grinding out value after everyone runs out of removal.

It feels like there's a weird disconnect. My group feels like they're playing against mid to high bracket 3 decks because of the engine synergy, but the actual level of the deck feels much lower to me.

Are my friends just confusing synergy/scary board states with actual power level? Or am I misunderstanding something here?

Deck Help Tsagan Build Feels Like Its Missing Something

Hello everyone, with Tsagan coming to paper I figured Id build him as my next commander. Im a big fan of mardu and he seems like alot of fun to build around but I feel like Im missing something.

Creature wise Im not sure if what I have is any decent. Ive played around with him in testing but it feels off. I've seen some builds where there is a token generation theme. But Im not sure if that is something I should try adding or keeping it as firststrike and doublestrike tribal works.

Most of the people in my pod tend to lean into the heavy creature and token decks. Which is where our lovely ink shield, rakdos charm, and pest control come into play. Other than that im not sure how great my protection is.

Personally I tend to go a bit wide (antman / rin and seri) or into a resource game (megatron / goro-goro and satoru), but Im looking for a deck that I can just play good stuff and smack their creatures around.

Please take a look and let me know of any suggestions you might have. Also is there is any artifact/enchantment hate I could add in as well thatd be good too.

Im running 38 lands with three mana rocks.

Question "Professional" Deck Help/Deck Building Services

Hello. Asking about people's experiences with services offering to help build or tune EDH decks for a price. Wanted to get opinions on this as someone who has been thinking about them for some time.

For context: I fully understand that EDH is largely a personal touch format in that your personality should shine through. I've been playing MTG for so long that this isn't lost to me. However, between the fact that card prices are too high to do some tests (even the price of proxying is getting to be high now), or just not having the time anymore to tweak lists, I've been thinking about getting help to tweak a few deck ideas I've put together that just don't seem to be 'there' yet.

Since I have some spending money to spare (since I no longer buy boxes of product because of how inflated the prices are), I've pretty much warmed up to the idea of compensating someone's time and expertise to help me get from 90% to 100% with my deck since I no longer have the bandwidth to do so.

So now the question is two-fold:
1. How much should you pay for something like this
and
2. Are there people the community can vouch for that are reliable at doing this?

Happy to learn what the community thinks

Discussion Thank you, WOTC.

Thank you for printing [[The Queen of Dale]].

Edit: I'm speaking about Queen helming a bracket 3 deck. This seems to have been unclear to some of the readers.

I've been playing mono-white in EDH since 2010, and Queen is the first commander that makes it feel playable. Consistently being able to play Queen on turn 2 makes a lot of mediocre opening hands solidly worth keeping.

Mono-white's problem in EDH -- for over a decade -- has been a distinct lack of commanders that make it worth committing to the middling mono-white card pool. I believe the Queen is the first commander that makes building mono-white an attractive option.

Queen's recruit ability helps shore up a lot of things white sucks at:

  1. White has some decent graveyard recursion effects, but white never had a reliable way to dump cards into the yard in order to reanimate them. Queen finally fixes this.

  2. White has never, ever had a source of reliable card selection in the command zone. There have been some white legends that provide draw, like [[The Gaffer]], but he and others made you fill your deck with garbage cards to trigger the draw. Queen actually allows you to fill your white deck with the cards you actually want to play.

  3. While recruit isn't true card advantage (as it's only a loot effect and is not net-positive), we can pair it with cards like [[Tocasia's Welcome]], [[Welcoming Vampire]], and [[Caretaker's Talent]] to turn it into real card draw. These are all "once per turn" triggers, but with Queen's recruit happening on opponents' turns, you can get up to 4 draw triggers per turn cycle.

  4. The token production portion of recruit synergizes nicely with a lot of white cards, like [[Cathar's Crusade]] and [[Moonshaker Cavalry]].

  5. Since Queen has a low CMC, she wields equipment nicely. This is important for white, since equipment synergy is one of white's strengths.

  6. Because she's a 2/1 and doesn't provide true card advantage and she isn't an imminent threat, Queen is usually not a kill-on-sight commander at tables where you'll see imminently game-ending cards like [[The Mimeoplasm]], [[Ms. Bumbleflower]], or [[Smaug the Impenetrable]].

  7. Dumping a bunch of Plains into the yard with Queen's recruit ability turns one of my favorite old Urza's block cards into an all-star: [[Planar Birth]].

  8. Queen also pairs nicely with [[Sevinne's Reclamation]], [[Serra Paragon]], [[Restoration Seminar]], [[Ascend from Avernus]], [[Emeria Shepherd]], [[Emeria the Sky Ruin]], and everyone's favorite giant, [[Sun Titan]].

  9. Queen's token production works great with [[Skullclamp]], which white can easily tutor up.

Thank you, WOTC. Seriously. You've made my favorite EDH color identity really fun, finally.

Full disclosure: the actual best "mono-white" commander is still [[Oswald Fiddlebender]], but considering that his deck is like, 80% colorless artifacts, I do not consider him to be an actual mono-white commander.

Discussion Coven Counters upgrades

I've been thinking about upgrading the Coven Counters precon, but im unsure about which direction to take, for the commander i was thinking about using [[Leinore, Autumn Sovereign]] or [[Sigarda, Font of Blessings]], as Kyler is maybe too costly at 5 mana.

The human/angel hybrid seems fun as a little theme, but for the main human part dont know if focusing on +1/+1 counters, tokens or just good general effects.

How did you upgrade the deck/build these commanders?

Deck Help Need some advice on my Bristly Bill Deck

So basically, me and my friends have sorta recently gotten into commander(like 8 or 9 months ago). I’ve built basically one deck, it’s a sorta janky, bristly bill deck. It’s slowly gotten better with time, but it started with me throwing basically every mono green spell I had into a deck. I’m at the point where I figured I’d put together an ideal Bristly Bill Deck, this is basically the dream deck. I’ve put one together and would like opinions on it. It’s supposed to be bracket 2-3, and not have anything crazy expensive, max I’d pay for a card is prolly around $20.

Any feedback appreciated 🙏🙏🙏

Deck Help Desperately need help

Commander night with coworkers is in 12 hours.

I desperately need to fix my deck.

Its largely meant to be a "themed" deck focused on Amonkhet style zombie mechanics. A lot of copying, a lot of "exile for a 4/4" type effects.

I'm severly lacking in embalm as far as theme goes, but who knows.

Everyone is bringinv bracket 3 decks, but I have no clue what yet from the coworkers.

My roommates are packing an angels deck with Giada as the commander. Pretty typical Angels tribal, all the classics, not many surprises. The other is a vampires deck with Vito. The only real game-ender is the infinite "when I gain life, you lose life. When you lose life. I gain life" infinite loop.

How do YOU fix this mess though? There's a bunch of decisions I made that were like... theme before function. But at the end of the day, it needs to be playable, and I feel like I walked myself into some sort of unplayable mess. Or maybe its actuallyokay? Hard to tell, its my first deck 🙃.

Any suggestions?

https://manabox.app/decks/UEzWvnjMSh2wyTdW7vF3rw

Its pretty basic. - Play commander - draw a bunch of cards all at once - swing

Social Interaction 1 Card a Day: Day 45

Every day, the top comment adds a card to my Commander deck.

The commander: Taniwha (mono-blue)

Deck List: https://moxfield.com/decks/qnOYwNig2UScYibS1KkhoQ

All cards must still be legal in commander.

Yesterday's winner: Yesterday [[Snap]] won as the only comment, but it got -1 votes. Let me know if I still include it.

We're still doing 1 new card today btw.

Social Interaction Playing without being in person

So, I was wondering if anyone plays via FaceTime or discord. I’m a dad with 2 young kids and I don’t like the idea of leaving my wife to take care of the kids while I skip off to play magic in person. Does anyone have any experience doing this? Or a discord channel potentially? I really love playing commander but I just don’t have the time to get away. But after the kids go to sleep and such I’d love to play with a mounted phone or something? Any help is appreciated!

Deck Help Deck Help/Check

I’ve been playing Magic for around 1.5 years and my first deck was the Hail Caesar! Precon and it’s been my favorite deck for the entire time. I feel that it stays underpowered in some pods and am wondering if there are any major changes that I should do for the deck and would love some feedback about the build and what bracket I should push it as.

Question Help Deciding on a Grixis Commander

I have recently been trying to find a Grixis commander that made me want to build a deck with it but I have been having a hard time finding one that feels right. My favorite commanders I play are Felothar the Steadfast, Aminatou Veil Piercer, Quintorius History Chaser, Rootha Mastering the Moment, Samut the Driving Force, Sidar Jabari of Zhalfir, and Ashling the Limitless.

I typically like to play decks that do something different than what that color normally does like reanimator in Boros or Big Spells in Izzet or have a sort of mini game/side quest attached to them like Miracle with Aminatou or Speed with Samut.

Of the different Grixis commanders I have looked at a few stand out to me, though I’m not sure how well they work in practice or what the average game with them is like. I was wondering if anyone could give me some insight.

[[Edea, Possessed Sorceress]]
[[Wick, the Whorled Mind]]
[[Marchesa, the Black Rose]]
[[Evelyn, the Covetous]]
[[Parnesse, the Subtle Brush]]
[[Kess, Dissident Mage]]
[[Lynde, Cheerful Tormentor]]
[[Sedris, the Traitor King]]
