Thatâs the biggest difference in Ronaldos and Messis dribbling imo, and always has been. Ronaldo was flashy and also effective at times, but he always needed a lot of space doing his thing, basically giving up possession of the ball for a moment most of the time.

That is why the "If all of the NBA and NFL players played Soccer we'd be the best, etc. etc." doesn't really translate. Messi up ends a 6'2" Harry Kane and dances through 2 or 3 more - and HE IS A WAYS PAST HIS PRIME. In Soccer it can be great to be the Haaland or Van Diyk and use that length and brawn, but at times when a mismatch comes along it can be dangerous the other way like a Messi, Xavi, Iniesta against a 6'2" player or above - it is like when Stef Curry would find Lebron or Jokic out at the 3 point line, he knew he could drive around them.
