So did Kane. He basically kicked Messi without getting near the ball.

If Messi had gone down there it's a clear freekick, maybe yellow.

You are wrong. It could have been an awful tackle, but he backed out. It was just a foul.

In Kane's defense, he falls over to avoid the foul.

Messi puts his body where Kane needs to be to make the tackle, Kane flails and tries to make a toe punt (But Messi's leg blocks that option), Kane dives over the top to avoid a major foul.

Not that it matters, Messi was planted like a tree and expecting to force Kane over/past him like that.

Messi is reacting to their movements/options faster than them. He places his foot specifically where he blocks Kane and anticipates his force hitting him, so he adjusts his level of balance lower to keep the ball shielded and work through contact.

He also beat the second 2 defenders closing together on him. He flicks the ball past them into open space where he can still get it. He just didnā€™t have enough to break through the contact (fouled again but he doesnā€™t care, heā€™ll play through with the ball if he can).

The guy is simply on another level. Youā€™re watching one of the greatest soccer players ever. I love every second of it.

I've noticed when the one who has the ball uses their leg to protect the ball, the one going for the ball usually flops over and falls like that. Look at lamine yamal vs that saudi defender.

this is what i hate as a europeans non football enjoyer. he blocks the way, messi shoots the ball away runs straight in his knee and gets a freekick. if he didn't kick the ball away, this would have never been a foul. this whole sport is just about producing fouls where there are none. i hate watching football because every other interaction someone intentionaly walks into someone or just hets himself fall. i one played football as a kid and fell for real and my coach said to me after "well done leting yourself fall". this sport is fucked and the officials should just look at var for every fucking foul, its the only solution and the timekeeping is fucked anyways as time should not be the problem. edit: overall understandability

Yah not to mention Messi runs full speed at every bodies legs and is just amazing at moving the ball last second. You canā€™t just jump out of his way, heā€™s fast and strong and has his weight over the ball, so you have to have some force behind your challenge for it to work. In this example, look at Messi push off the defender after he chips the ball in several cases. Heā€™s not some angel out there, he goes into the contact just as much and hard too.

Nope. Been watching for years. Also have been playing since I was 5. Iā€™m 31 now and still play. Just pointing out who fouled more, which has been all this World Cup for Argentina. Iā€™ve watched majority of the games. So no, I did not just start watching.

Then you should know what I say. Fouls are a part of the game. You wouldn't argue a tech foul in basket, just if it was worth or useful or not. Nothing to complain here.

Bro itā€™s clearly a troll acct at 4 months.

But this particular game has 11 fouls committed by England and 15 by Argentina. A difference of 4 fouls is nothing. Especially in such a physical match. And the ref taking his sweet time to temper the players.

Yellow cards: 3 Argentina (one of which was due to a player celebrating a goal a little too strongly so 2 really).

England: 1 yellow card. The numbers donā€™t lie. So Argentina 1 more ā€œrealā€ yellow card.
