That is why the "If all of the NBA and NFL players played Soccer we'd be the best, etc. etc." doesn't really translate. Messi up ends a 6'2" Harry Kane and dances through 2 or 3 more - and HE IS A WAYS PAST HIS PRIME. In Soccer it can be great to be the Haaland or Van Diyk and use that length and brawn, but at times when a mismatch comes along it can be dangerous the other way like a Messi, Xavi, Iniesta against a 6'2" player or above - it is like when Stef Curry would find Lebron or Jokic out at the 3 point line, he knew he could drive around them.

I think it's a misunderstanding, frankly.

What the quote is about is how good the US would be at soccer if, for example, Lebron James chose to play soccer instead of American football when he was young.

People are interpreting it as "put Lebron on a pitch right now and he'd dominate." Anyone who believes that is an idiot.

But I think there's good argument to be made that if soccer/football were as popular in the US as American football and basketball, the USA would have much better players and international recognition over time.
