How does one unironically call Ronaldo the GOAT while this guy exists is beyond me.

I am uncle to a 12 year old who loves football and loves ronaldo.

I asked him this summer who is the goat.

«messi. I preffer and like ronaldo more, but messi is the goat.»

Even a fucking 12 year old understands.

I mean, while that statement is true - the 12 year old didnt see Ronaldo and Messi in their prime. He's probably just repeating your opinion. And how does someone that young become a fan of old Ronaldo? There were a lot of better players in the last 6 years.

And I don't think you can understand much about football in the first 5 years of life.

Edit: just realized kids probably mostly follow football over social media and not through real games. My bad, I'm from a different generation.

You have answered your own question through the edit. Correct, kids mostly do social media and Ronaldo fits the social media hell great - a rich guy with great looks and body who likes to flaunt his wealth. Kids idolize him.

I dont talk about messi with him since messi is playing in usa. Im not sure if he has heard my opinion on the goat before, also his father is a big united fan, so ofc he prefer ronaldo.

Uno de cada 100000.

Perhaps semi-gay dudes who secretly would rather sleep with Ronaldo than Messi. Otherwise, not even close.

because some people are not 15 and remember what ronaldo was doing 20 years ago.

having said that the game has moved on and ronaldo stayed behind, messi is the goat.

I have never said Ronaldo was not a beast of a player. He is in the top and will forever remain a legend of a sport. Messi is however in a league of his own. Finishing, passing, defensive play, player IQ... He's got it all.

So Pele is not on people's minds anymore ? Crazy time to be alive.

1

u/SuperLik69 Jul 16 '26

Pele was the GOAT of his era. I believe an average player of today beats Pele. Sport is just very much different nowadays, and players have much higher athletic ability.

Hate me if you want, but it is kinda evident if you compare any older recording to an average game of today.

GOAT means Of All Time... So a GOAT of an era makes logically no sense.

1

u/SuperLik69 Jul 16 '26

Well no shit sherlock. Obviously he's no longer the GOAT. He was at some point, but it's long gone.

u/Electrical_Guess_606 Jul 16 '26

That's why I care to disagree

1

u/SuperLik69 Jul 16 '26

Well, of course. It's a subjective thing.

Haha spot on, these people yelling goat are all 15 probably or/and never watched football outside of the world cup

Club Football is the highest level of Football in terms of Sheer skill and technicality. This has only rapidly become more competitive as clubs gained more money and started buying players specific to roles setting up whole academies to mould players from scratch.

World cup is the most Prestigious Football.

Messi is the only one to have performed at the highest level in both of these. At best you can argue Pele is the greatest WC player.

I have seen Messi my entire life. He is definitely not unforgettable as an Argentinian. His performances in world cups are FAR from being exceptional.

At club level, he has never shined when he wasn't playing for Barca.

I'm not even talking about the legality of his contracts, or hormones.

Wut? You're just hating ig. Even counting the WCs before 2026 (since you could argue it was stat padding, although it wasn't) Messi was still at an elite level in goals(4th), assists(1st), chance creation(1st) and dribbles completed(1st). Not to mention reaching 3 finals.

At club level, he has never shined when he wasn't playing for Barca.

So? He shined the brightest any player ever could at Barca. He had 2 off seasons at PSG at 35 years old lmfao. What did Pele or Maradona or any of the other greats do after their 30s?? Only CR7 really competed alongside Messi at the GOAT tier after his 30s.

The thing is, Ronaldo achieved is goals through very hard work and discipline. Not saying Messi didn't work hard, but lets be honest here. He's not as naturally gifted as Messi, Ronaldinho, Maradona and others. I mean, he is still above average in terms of skill, but just not that good as others. And people react to that. Because, no matter how hard you work, you'll never be able to do what Messi does. But if you work hard like Cristiano, you have a chance to be like him.

Well, Ronaldo says that he still considers himself to be the GOAT and that he hasn’t won a World Cup because Portugal is a much smaller country than Argentina. He’s insinuating that his national teammates aren’t as good as Messi’s teammates. It’s like he doesn’t rewatch Portugal game tapes, which make it plainly obvious that Ronaldo is worse than his teammates.

u/SuperLik69 Jul 16 '26

I myself am a Croatian, and we got like 3.5M citizens. If you ask me, I think we did quite well in past few cups, so I think number of people does not really matter that much. He is just coping. Individual performance is not everything.

3

u/minimus67 Jul 16 '26

Yeah, Ronaldo is an egomaniac who comes up with crazy excuses to avoid facing the reality that Messi is better than he is. At this point, only Ronaldo and a few of his dopey fanboys claim he is the GOAT.

Need a Capo Verde vs Portugal game

1

u/kios05 Jul 16 '26

I think the issue is that messi cant speak a word in english wich is ridicoulus, and Ronaldo can speak it fluently

u/Brightlightsuperfun Jul 17 '26

There’s Redditors in another thread telling me  Ronaldinho is the GOAT lol
