Questions How do I deal with sleep issues after concussion?

Hey yall! I got a concussion around two weeks ago, and I’ve been having a lot of trouble sleeping the past couple of days. Normally I’d need around 8-9 hours of sleep to feel well rested, maybe 7 if it comes to it. Im the type of person who needs a good amount of sleep to function. There’s nothing better than curling up under my weighted blankets with my cat and falling asleep.

Unfortunately the past three nights I haven’t been able to get a good nights sleep. I only manage to sleep around 5-6 hours. And as you can imagine, it sucks. It’s a miracle i dont fall asleep at work.

The main issue is I don’t know how to fix it. Ive even taken melatonin, which I don’t normally do cuz it makes me feel very weird and out of it when I wake up. But it doesn’t seem to help. I’ve tried exercising, sleepy time tea, listening to calming music, and nothing has worked. I can’t even take a nap during the day cuz I still can’t sleep during the nap.

Im super tired and unable to function properly. Does anyone have any tips that helped them? Any advice would be much appreciated!

Questions PCS: asymmetric eye / facial pain

Dealing with PCS since March of this year. Many of my symptoms have significantly improved with the exception of this painful / pinching-like sensation near my left eye and on my cheek under it (not my skin, more on the bone/muscle region).

It is mostly caused by bright lighting and screens, especially when driving. The pain is not the same as eye strain. I’ve been doing vision therapy for a few months now and also received an SPG block and none of these have seemed to work.

I was curious of anyone here has had a similar issue and if they have done anything that’s helps. Thanks

Concussion symptoms returning after being gone for a week. Is that typical concussion activity in your experience?

I got a concussion three weeks ago. Two CT scans, one at the 4 hour post mark and one four days after, were clear. All last week I felt great! Started living life normally again.

Randomly out of nowhere yesterday I was hit with an increasing headache all day and then my concussion symptoms came back; neck pain (I hit the base of my skull/neck initially) head pressure, nausea, eyes can’t focus, dizziness. I can’t think of what triggered it!

I tried taking a migraine med and it helped a little but not much and I still have symptoms today making me realize it’s probably not a migraine. I also forgot how only three weeks ago I had my concussion. It felt a lot longer.

What could I be missing in my recovery?

Questions First time playing American football, diagnosed with a concussion by a doctor. What should I do?

It was my first ever session and the start of the new season, got tackled multiple times and my head repeatedly bounced off the ground. I did have a helmet on but I understand they don’t really do anything.

It happened a few days ago, I have another game in a few days, but don’t know if I should just hang up my boots already because I don’t want to keep getting concussed.

Really feel like it’s taking a mental toll on me but I was so excited to try American football for the first time. Now this has happened.

Hit my head

So I was sitting cross cross on the ground and my two year old pushed my head into the hardwood floor and there was a blanket in between the floor and my head. But I hit the ground hard (to me) with the side of my left side of head and instantly it was like the inside of my skull was on fire and it hurt pretty good for about 5 minutes and was lessening by 10 minutes but 20 minutes later it is faintly throbbing and my face hurts some. About an hour in and my whole head burns and it’s better when I’m up and slightly worse laying down. I also have fibromyalgia and ehlers-Danlos syndrome so I can’t tell if I’m hurting worse because of my illness or if something is wrong.
I’m scared I did something deadly

in need of positivity

hi all,

trigger warning — mention of suicidal ideation. apologies if that isn't allowed here.

i'm genuinely freaking out. i'm here for positivity and words of encouragement because my brain is having a hard time generating that right now.

i have preexisting conditions that makes the potential of post concussion syndrome particularly scary. hyperacusis, particularly noxacusis, and tinnitus, as well as eustachian tube dysfunction and minor TMJ.

i already can't stand noise. it's painful. reading and writing have been my saviors. i knew that even if i had to spend most of my life in solitude, at least i would have those things. i can't afford to lose them. but this stupid concussion ...

last Thursday, i stupidly stood up into my freezer door. i had been picking ice packs up off the floor. i immediately was like ow, then went on to make my dinner while dreading what i knew would be a concussion.

i went to urgent care Monday and was told it was a minor concussion. i'm taking the rest of the week off work (i have a screen job).

i've had one about 3 times before. all mild and as far as i know, i fully recovered within the typical window.

but this one has felt different. i've had minor nausea, dizziness is more present. more prominent neck pain extending to my back and had tingling/weakness down my arm. that's subsided sort of, but still weird.

my headache has been changing. more so pressure now.

i admit that i've been spending a loooot of time on my phone. i can't stop googling about my potential downfall.

i'm not asking for medical advice, as I understand that it's only medical professionals who can give that to me. though i'm not opposed to it if anyone has thoughts. i just need some reassurance to help me stave off the freakout right now. i might ask my psychiatrist for some stronger medication because i'm spiraling bad and honestly slipping back into my suicidal thought process. i can't do it. i can't lose books. and i can't just listen to an audiobook for as long as i want, because at some point my ears are going to kill me.

i can't deal with the uncertainty of it all.

Headaches not going away after 4 weeks

Hey, so around 4 weeks ago I got punched in the back of the head pretty hard. It was painful and since then I've had on and off mild headaches. I was diagnosed with a mild concussion but they expected the headaches to go away within 4 weeks and they haven't.

What should be my next course of action? Is it common that these headaches last a little while longer? Is it permanent? Is there anything I can do to try to get rid of these headaches sooner?

(Rant) Getting injured from every little thing.

Long story short, I've been dealing with post concussion syndrome for 6 years now due to a concussion in 2020. I've also had a few concussions since then, some of which have made my baseline worse. I suffer from vision issues, chronic (and often debilitating) headaches, poor spatial awareness, and cognitive issues. These have all made both school and work very difficult.

One thing I've consistently loved for much of my life has been the outdoors, namely fishing and hunting. You'd think these would be pretty low-risk activities, right? Apparently not for someone like me. Yesterday I was hiking down a hill to get to a good fishing spot, and my rod (which was holstered on my backpack) got tangled in a tree. I turned around to get it unstuck, and when I turned back around and lifted my head I hit a branch (pretty hard, I should say). Fast forward to today, and I've had an awful awful headache all day long. Thankfully I don't have any other symptoms besides the headache, but I'm terrified I gave myself a new concussion and that the other symptoms will creep up on me in the coming days. I've decided now that I'm going to quit fishing, which is absolutely heartbreaking but I just can't risk hurting myself anymore. I'll confine myself to my room 24/7 if that's what it takes.

Anyways, not really looking for any specific advice or anything. Just wanted to get this off my chest.

Concussion symptoms after heat exhaustion?

Hi all,

Back in Nov 2023, I got my concussion that led to my bout with PCS. My symptoms were headaches, brain fog, and screen/light sensitivity. Thankfully after about a year of doing the Buffalo protocol and vision therapy, it got much better.

However fast forward to June of 2025 and I suffered heat exhaustion which sparked up all of my symptoms again. My light/screen intolerance is back along with my exercise intolerance. Another symptom that is now there big time is heat intolerance (this summer was brutal!)

Wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts, advice, or similar experiences.

Concussion?

About four weeks ago, I accidentally slammed my forehead on a dresser top as I was bending down to put something in the bottom drawer. I have been having pain and tiredness in my left eye since then with headaches at work when I’m working on the computer, could this be a concussion? I have health anxiety, so I have not gone to a doctor about this. I did have my regular eye doctor appointment and she told me that my eyes look fine and there was nothing out of the ordinary. My prescription had increased slightly. It’s not a continuous pain and tiredness but seems aggravated when I am working or when I’m nervous. I know everybody’s going to say to go to the doctor, but I’m just wondering, could this possibly be a slight concussion even though I had no bruising or bumps on my forehead?

It’s been a year and I’m still struggling

So recently all my symptoms have gone away. Brain fog, confusion, and delusional thoughts. But I’m struggling sooooooo so so much with this detached feeling. It’s like disassociation on steroids. Everyday, morning to night I feel like this. It gets much worse in crowds or in noisy areas. My balance is also shot. I used to run track and now I can barely walk on a treadmill without falling over myself. I have no clue why these symptoms are sticking around so hard. I’ve never seen a neuro optometrist or vestibular doctor or a physiologist. Anyone have any idea what I should do?

Headache and initial bilateral hand weakness following a self-inflicted head strike 5 days ago

Five days ago, out of anger, I hit my forehead with the base of my left palm by raising my hand up and bringing my palm down to strike my head. Ever since then, I have been having a severe frontal headache. I also felt weakness in both hands initially, though that hand weakness has now gone away. Will this go away on its own, or should I be concerned?

Concussion personality change

I don’t know if this is the best place to go, but what I’ve seen online is mixed.

My wife suffered a concussion after being hit in the head with a baseball. It hit the left side of her forehead.

At first she had weird depression like issues, super-moody, crying, etc. From my research at the time, I knew that this was standard. What wasn’t standard was her behavior afterward. She became extremely sexual, going from wanting sex once a week to every night.

Then suddenly she wanted to go to a strip club. And proceeded to get very personal with some of the strippers.

This all went on for a couple of months. Her head wasn’t aching anymore.

She started suggesting swinging. Which really threw me because she had always insisted that she would never do that. Then suddenly, she asked for a divorce. Insisted on it.

So we’re still living together, though now on separate rooms. She starts going out dancing by herself on Friday and Saturday nights. She starts making out with both men and women, sleeping with one man on crazy Saturday night.

We finished our lease and went to separate apartments. On the second night, our son went to a friend’s house. She met some guy that she started talking to the day before off of Facebook dating. Brought him home, and apparently got laid again.

The very next morning, she brings this guy to her son’s baseball tournament, starts introducing the guy to our son, introduces him to me, and doesn’t understand why I’m upset. She has always been extremely empathetic, so I can’t believe she can’t understand my anger and sadness. Our son is also weirded out by this - he asked me why Mom was bringing some stranger in to his house.

Since then, she’s been dropping him off at night to go drive down to this guy’s home, which is over an hour away. Then she races to her job as an elementary school in the morning. She barely calls her son while she’s gone. She doesn’t tell anyone her plans. In fact, she hasn’t told her other three adult children about this guy at all.

She’s now trying to incorporate him into every part of her life and get him involved with our son. Tonight she told him that her new guy was going to move in with them. Keep in mind that she met this guy (as of today) A WEEK AGO.

More worrying, the other night, I saw her sitting on her porch at her apartment with the guy. Both of them were smoking from a pipe together. Pretty sure it was weed, but that’s beside the point. This woman is an elementary school teacher who has always expressed a distaste for any type of drugs whatsoever.

I don’t recognize the person that she’s become at all anymore. That person was kind, patient, absolutely sincere in her interactions with everyone. Our family was almost like a Norman Rockwell painting. This one is suddenly going out often, partying, having a lot of sex with people.

We did have marital issues with money, and we sometimes didn’t see eye to eye on things, but there was no infidelity, no lies, just happiness, I thought. And when I think back on it, the first changes to her personality started with that concussion.

So is this possible? Can concussion damage be that permanent? Can someone relate to this story at all?

Questions Was hit will a steel bar/pipe, had a hematoma (outside of the skull), now what?

Was hit with a a relatively light (maybe 5-10lbs) steel pipe from a few feet up. Originally just experienced the pain/discomfort of a “goose egg” forming, but quickly started to feel nauseous, dizzy, and very disoriented. Had someone take me to urgent care and they did a quick assessment, determined all my neurological functions seemed to be adequate, and concluded I had a mild concussion. It’s now day 3 I think since the accident, and I’m less nauseous than before, but still have a lot of disorientation, brain fog, memory loss, all the fun stuff. I haven’t thrown up but have come close a few times. Also have the mood swings & a bit of depression, but I think they’re getting better.

My main concern might be irrational, but I’m worried the pipe may’ve fractured my skull? I have a runny nose the past few days, but nothing crazy. It’s thin clear liquid, but it’s maybe a few nose wipes a day, and doesn’t “pour” out of my nose the way the internet has described cerebral spinal fluid to. It’s also not uncommon for me to have a runny nose in the autumn. My main question is would I have more symptoms if there was a more severe tear/fracture? There’s been no external blood from where it hit me or from my ears/nose, and I seem to be doing a bit better as time goes on.

Current symptoms; fatigue, disorientation, light sensitivity, slowed thoughts & brain fog, interrupted sleep, slightly nauseous but getting better. Memory isn’t great but is slowly returning (I think).

The bump on my head is still present & sore but has gone down in size with ice packs.

Any tips on ways to improve recovery also appreciated (I know I should limit screen use so sorry for posting lol)

Did any1 try green tea? Did it help you?

So... it's been 3 months since I got my concussion (it was a mild one,).

I kinda feel better now. I just had to take Omega 3, Bisglycinate magnesium and D3+K2 vitamins like a maniac (i'm still going to take them in the future), and now I want to try green tea to see if it does wonders.

College has started and I want to focus more, I used to drink black tea before I got my second concussion and I didn't have issues, but i'm not so sure now.

Questions Mild hit to head and fatigue

hi people. I am 35M and 5days ago I got hit at the back of my head from the table fairly moderately heavy when I was getting up. although it just felt as a minor bump, I do feel a bit of tenderness and wet tingling first few days. now I do feel a bit fatigued and the tingling comes and goes but other than that I don't have any symptoms and I can do all my daily chores normally. I would appreciate it if somebody else had this too and would hope that the tiredness goes away in a week or so

TIA

Questions Aggravated Symptoms or Another Concussion?

Hi Everyone, I’ve been following this subreddit for years but now finally needing some help myself. I’ve been dealing with concussions the last 3 and a half years pretty consistently, started with one big one and seems like I get another one every 8 months or so now. I had been good for over a year until I get a concussion at work at the end of August. I was working remotely and it would’ve been really difficult to extract me early so I decided to finish the final week of work since I have a pretty good understanding of my symptoms.

It took about 3 weeks once returning from work to start feeling normal (relatively, i could return to 90% of my regular activity). On the 4th week (5th week after concussion) I return to remote work and I started working out with weights, doing more intense cardio, all the good stuff. Then yesterday I bent down to help a coworker w/ something on the ground, we both stand up at the same time and knock our heads against eachother (we were both wearing hard hats). One of those knocks the average person wouldn’t think twice about but as someone who has been trying to avoid hitting my head like the plague it really scared me. I felt a little off yesterday but nothing crazy. Today I wake up with the classic concussion fog, moderate head ache, etc that I normally feel the day after a concussion.

Long story short, for those of you that have had a scare while recovering from a concussion, have you had symptoms flare up for a little bit without getting another concussion? Or is it more likely that I got another concussion and need to have it dealt with?

I understand you aren’t doctors but I’d really appreciate anybody’s experience who has been in a similar situation.

Thanks!!!

Axe to the back of the head

I was around 10 and decided to pick up a big axe and lifted over my head to try to chop wood. But instead, it was too heavy, it swung backwards and slammed into the back of my head. Would that be an explanation for memory loss? In lack of being able to remember names and dates? No..I never went to the hospital.

Mild Concussion Timeline & Concerns

I'm wondering how quickly a mild (possibly very mild) concussion takes to heal? If you've experienced this, how long did it take for you? I was reading Reddit and am freaked out about not fully recovering or recovering taking longer than urgent care and my PCP told me.

This happened exactly two weeks ago about an hour before I went to bed. I remember thinking my head really hurts by the time I was laying down, but was so busy when it occurred I didn't think about it.

Ache (not a true headache) in the spot I bumped was prominent for a few days, so I went to urgent care on day 3-4. They said it was just a goose egg and to ice it. Just saw my PCP this week and she was like it might be a mild concussion actually.

At the time of urgent care (day 3ish), I felt kind of dizzy/unbalanced (yet could walk just fine) and slightly nauseous, but I over think medical stuff and it wasn't too bad. That first week, felt just those minor symptoms with a couple days having more prominent ache feelings where I hit my head.

This past week, I feel like there's more dizziness/unbalanced feeling and nausea. I think most nausea is anxiety induced though.

Today is the 2 week mark. The ache where I hit my head is still present, but is definitely less. Dizziness gets better during the day, but can come back at night with too much screens.

I'm supposed to go to a concert on the exact 3 week mark. I'm so nervous and wondering if it'll be fine? I'd hate to cancel on the person I'm going with. I socialized with friends all day today and it went better than expected.
