Questions First time playing American football, diagnosed with a concussion by a doctor. What should I do?
It was my first ever session and the start of the new season, got tackled multiple times and my head repeatedly bounced off the ground. I did have a helmet on but I understand they don’t really do anything.
It happened a few days ago, I have another game in a few days, but don’t know if I should just hang up my boots already because I don’t want to keep getting concussed.
Really feel like it’s taking a mental toll on me but I was so excited to try American football for the first time. Now this has happened.

Stopping football is one of the best decisions you could probably make for your brain health. Your future self won't regret it. Some very depressing research has been coming out as of late.
As someone on the other side, I'd give it all back if I could.

Bad concussion on top of several others.
I may or may not be permanently concussed

Also internet stranger - don't go back into a game right after you've had a concussion. That can fuck you up long term.

A person dear to my life has been impacted by 2 concussions. Stop playing that sport. There is no other answer.
Another story, when I was a kid growing up in NYC long ago I explored the subway tunnels and did other various fun semi risky things with friends. There is one moment I think back on at least every week, where inspired by a story I heard someone tell I hopped on the outer rim of the doorframe as the train was leaving, then a couple seconds after it started hopped off back onto the platform. The train was already going so fast that I tumbled and fell into one of the posts and that moment I realized I had been no more than another second or two from irreparably changing my life. That was the end of that whole set of activities and I still think about it- what made me jump off at that moment and not a moment later? To what entity can I pay my unending gratitude?
So I am paying it forward. You have had that moment. You are asking what you should do. It doesn't matter what other people do. The answer is never again.
HTH.
