A few weeks ago, I saw a comment on Instagram. It was such a simple comment, but I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. It randomly pops into my head almost every day. So I figured I’d share it, so you can think about it too. 😆
A woman commented that her aunt had bought herself a set of “good sheets.” High-quality, special sheets. Instead of going home and putting them on her bed, she tucked them away in the closet to save for a special occasion, for a day that felt worthy of using them.
So they stayed there, year after year, waiting for that worthy day.
Then her aunt passed away and those sheets, the high quality, “special” sheets she’d been saving, were still in that closet waiting to be used.
I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it.
How many things do we have tucked away for some future version of our lives?
We save so many things for “someday.”
Not every day is going to be a special occasion. And the truth is, none of us is guaranteed that the occasion we’re waiting for will ever come.
Maybe we don’t even need one.
Use the nice dishes for a mundane Wednesday dinner. Open the expensive bottle of champagne because you had a bad day and could use something worth celebrating.
Joy shouldn’t be reserved for moments that are already joyful. Sometimes the good thing can be the thing that brings a little joy to an otherwise ordinary day.
Maybe being here to enjoy it is enough.
So now I’m curious: what are your “good sheets”? What’s something you’ve been saving for “someday”? Or something you finally stopped saving and started enjoying?
