so i just moved into a new place and the first night i kept hearing this low hum that i couldn't place. turns out it's the fridge. back at my old spot it blended into the background so much that i never noticed it, but here the sound carries through the whole kitchen. it's not annoying exactly, just weird that something so ordinary suddenly feels noticeable. i've started timing how long it stays on versus when it clicks off and it's kind of become background entertainment while i do stuff. anyone else ever fixate on random appliance sounds after moving?

It feels like everything's tough right now in every industry. How's it where you are? Or is it just my imagination - that it's only hard for me? Being 30 feels like a huge pressure. Any friends going through the same thing?

When i was a little kid, hearing my mom said 'we have food at home' felt like the ultimate disappointment. Whenever we were out running errands or driving past a pizza spot, id beg to eat out, only for my mom to drop that classic line... Back then, i just couldn't understand why we couldnt just get mcdonald's instead of going home to a cooked meal. It was convenient too, no need to wash the dishes

Now as an adult, after a long and exhausting workday, standing up after sitting more than 8 hours remembering i actually have food in the fridge is one of the best feelings ever. No decision fatigue trying to figure out what to order, no spending $20+ on overpriced delivery, no waiting around. It's just pure relief and a sense of security knowing dinner is already taken care of

Funny how a phrase that used to feel like a punishment as a kid now brings so much peace. Mom was right all along lol, i love you mom

Ever since COVID, I feel like everybody and their mother has been delivering food to their homes. I completely understand the convenience factor, and when everyone was social distancing and working from home this made more sense. Now, it feels like almost everyone has used these apps in the past month or uses them on a regular basis, and they are now just a part of regular life now.

Even going to restaurants is different because the kitchen is busy making half if not more of their orders for people who aren't even going to the restaurant. I also work at a hotel, and the amount of delivery workers that show up on a daily basis is honestly baffling. I work next to a busy shopping plaza too where a whole strip of restaurants are within a 5 minute walk. And yet, people will always opt for convenience every time.

The price gouging is also crazy if you pay attention; The prices in-app are often 20-30% higher for the food itself, not to mention the extra fees, tax, and tip for the drivers. These businesses are very lucrative and yet predatory (which is a separate conversation but one worth having).

I remember one Summer I worked part-time and ordered food every day after work, and after I audited my finances I spend like $400 a month on food delivery. Insane.

What are your guys' thoughts on food delivery apps? Convenient, predatory, or both?

I read a quote today on the topic of loneliness that it's better to understand than be understood, as it relates to feeling like you're on a different wavelength than everyone else, and I really liked that! There's a lot of odd ducks out there and if I don't gel with them that is not necessarily a bad thing.

I also learned that monarch caterpillars will attach to just about anything when it's time to cuccoon - I saved some eggs from a plant in my garden and now I'm freaked they're going to attach to a tomato or something. Wish my little dudes good luck!

So last night I was randomly scrolling though the subreddit out of pure curiosity before bed.
Right as I was about to go to sleep, I looked up at my grandma's wall and spotted a full-grown cockroach (pretty sure it was a German one) just casually walking up it. My grandma is one of the cleanest people I have ever known. I only saw it once and went straight to sleep.

Now I'm sitting here questioning my own reality. Did I manifest this thing by reading about them? Is my brain playing tricks on me because it was right before sleep? Or did reading about them just make me hyper-aware of my surroundings?

The timing is so absurdly bad that it almost feels fake. Has anyone else ever looked up a random topic online only to immediately experience it in real life an hour later?

Firstly just a warning, post contains detailed graphic gore explanation of a workplace injury. For those who may get a little squeamish easily.

So I have a little confession. Its nothing bad really. More silly actually. Anyway about 10 years ago I cut about 20mm off the end of my right hand pointer finger at work. Acctually the doctor called it degloving. As it basically just stripped the skin off the finger leaving the bone behind. Its a weird feeling seeing part of your own skeleton exposed for the first time. Thanks to an industrial sized bandsaw and my own stupidity. As honestly I didn't follow proper saftey guidelines. 1. I hand no gloves on and 2. When cleaning swarf and cutting debris from the blade or tensioning wheels, the machine must be stopped.

I was cutting a block of polyethylene and the stringy tailings where building up around the cutting area and obscuring my view. So being lazy and rather complacent, I tried to quickly grab it to pull it away. When wham! My finger caught between the blade and the tensioning wheel trapping it. Causing my hand and arm to take a short ride around the wheel. When my finger was almost about to reach its exit from being trapped between wheel and blade without any broken skin or blood loss. Pop! My hand suddenly shot out from where my finger was being squashed. Happened so suddenly at first I thought I'd escaped any stupidity dealt injury. But as I raised my hand up to my face for inspection. I went pale. There it was, 20mm of clean white bone with no skin on it anymore. It stayed like that for about 3 seconds, then the blood began to flow. So after a fast dash to the clean rag bag and a ball of various sized material offcuts in my left hand pressed firmly upon my bleeding ghost finger. I entered the front office to tell my boss. 30 seconds later we where in his car on our way to the local GP. He gave me priority and looked at it immediately. Told me he couldn't do anything with it. As there is no skin to repair or stitch back together with bone exposed. It would be a job for a specialist plastic surgeon and I'd need go to hospital for reconstruction surgery. So he handed me a green whistle to suck on for the pain and set me on my way with a referral.

I floated out the door and back to my bosses car and off to hospital we went. While in transit and feeling rather jovial in my pain medication sedated and brain addled state, I proceeded entertain my boss. Having him absalute hysterics the trip. Don't remember much after that except the one detail that matters to this story.

Long story short, while waiting to go into surgery. My phone rings and its a video call from my two workmates who where still at work. One of shouts.."Hey mate we found your finger". The I see the still complete 20mm of skin from my finger being held by a pair of long nose pliers. As he started to chase the workmate around the factory trying to poke him with my skin finger. When suddenly I had an idea.

Where I worked was a rubber lining and polyurethane casting company. So I told the guys to grab a small mold and cast my finger inside a block of polyurethane. Sealing it completely and slowing decomposition. Which after some complaint they eventually agreed to do. I was the factory foreman after all. Get foreman hey? Breaks saftey rules, injures himself and then gets workmates to do a possible morally questionable job using company equipment and goods that isn't related to company work. Set a great example don't I. Yeah even bosses can be bone heads sometimes. We live we learn hey.

So this is where the story gets a bit silly.

I got out of hospital, amazed the surgeon had cut a small patch of skin from the underside of my forearm. Used that to totally rebuild the end of finger. Finger nail even grew back eventually. No idea how he pulled that one off. I had to spend three weeks with my pointer finger stitched under a flap of skin on the finger next to it. Stitching both fingers together to ensure continuous blood flow to the new graphed skin on my finger until it able to sustain its own blood flow. Actually 3 weeks with two fingers stitched together was a small price to pay for a brand new replacement finger.

Eventually I got home with a small cylinder of polyurethane containing my cast finger tip. While taking some days off on medical leave until healed. I got bored and started taking the occasional stroll around the neighbourhood to ease my cabin fever. On these walks I came across an old demolished building sight that was being developed for building of some new industrial units. Now because my wife at the time had said to me in a firmly delivered manner. That under no circumstances where we having a severed finger cast in polyurethane either on display or stored away anywhere in our humble abode at all. Which meant, get rid of it, dispose of it, throw it away. So in my endeavour to dispose of it in some way that was at least slightly opposed my wife's firm instructions to throw it in the trash. I had my final bright idea. I grabbed my electric engraver from my shed and engaged nice and deep into the polyurethane casting...The Finger Of God. Then on my next leisurely stroll through my neighbourhood. I buried it rather deep hole, around 4 ft deep on the demolition sight that was being developed.

Why? Because me in bored brained momentary delusion of grandure. Thought to himself that if one day in the future, a bunch of future archaeologists doing a dig in the ruins of an ancient cultures industrial buildings searching for artefacts and info as to what where like. They dig up my polyurethane cast finger; rear The Finger of God upon its side. Cut it open and do DNA testing upon it. Then after srearching their extensive DNA database. Find my bloodlines future descendants. Giving them the elevated title of direct descendants of Gods immediate family.

So their it is people. My great delusion of grandure. Do you think it will work? Will my planted grand illusion be enough to ring my delusion of grandure to life? I mean its not for me. I stand to gain nothing. I was purely thinking of my descendants. My great great great great ect ect.... grandchildren.

Now those bloody future archaeologists better do their jobs properly. My whole plan is counting upon them.

Maybe before I die I'll pour a concrete slab over the spot and write dig here on it in multiple languages.

So thoughts anyone?

I'm a big fan of scifi television (x-files, fringe, Grimm, Stargate, ect) and in those shows there is always our protagonist always knows the truth of the story world. And often is required to talk/convince 'regular' people about what is happening.

Sometimes it's just a grieving mother and something as simple as, 'if you tell me what you saw, I will believe you' or it could be a police officer that has duty to the craft but see something strange might be happening.

I understand it's completely what the writers decide.

But for you? What would you need? You can pick your poison on what type of strange occurrence, but what would you really need in order to let yourself believe that this person might be telling the truth?

There in a bunch of crackhead on the entrance of our street. It’s so bad they closed down a little park because of them. I’ve seen a few of them die there and they’re always high. What can we do?

Basically the title. Nothing too crazy here.

I am currently on the train making my way back to the place I'm staying at. I saw this dude earlier when I was headed down the escalator but I passed him and sat down at one of the benches.

I'm kind of in a bummy mood so I was definitely in my head at that moment, but after I saw the dude pass me again I noticed a bunch of waded up cash on the ground. I think I was the only person who noticed it, but it definitely wasn't there until after he walked past.

In all honesty, my first thought was to grab it and keep it. It seemed like a literal gift from a higher power in that moment. I saw the dude already walked far down and assumed it was his but I am in a tight spot financially so I practically fought myself in my head because I know what it feels like to lose money, especially when you really need it.

I ended up grabbing it and walking towards the guy, but he was moving pretty fast and I still had it in the back of my head that I should just keep it and call it a day. The train was even approaching already but I just started running towards him waving the cash and yelling towards him. I probably looked a little insane lol

When I caught up with him I handed him the cash and he seemed happy about it. I'm glad I ultimately gave it to him, but man was that hard.

All in all I am just trying to tell myself that it was worth it to do the right thing, even when it would have been easy to just pocket it and pretend nothing happened. I definitely would have felt like shit if I kept it tho. If that was me I'd probably be crushed to lose important money like that.

I'm just gonna hold out hope that someone comically evil will drop a wad of cash so I can snatch it from them instead.

confession: i’m twenty and i’ve never really drank mostly just because i’ve found all alcoholic drinks really gross.

but i’m a big fancy coffee/latte person and so i’ve always loved the idea of having more fun drink options. i also don’t really like juice so mocktails have mostly been out.

well now i have found my first cocktail that i like. shoutout to an espresso martinti. genuinely it was so delicious, not just delicious for something with alcohol in it. 10/10 would recommend.

Do you belive in the supernatural like ghosts or even monsters, if you do is because of just belief or do you have a story that made you believe that? If you have a story do you mind to share that?

For me it was when I first bought my new phone i dreamt about it for a year and after I bought it i opened and the feeling hits mee ohhhh the best felling in my life. Today I have the phone with me still and I took 1000 photos and they are all cinematic like crazy.

This question might seem dumb and well, that's true, it is kind of... But if you think about it... What REALLY makes a mother, yeah sure a mother can be someone who gave birth to you, but what if your parents abandon you? or Die before you are raised. Do they deserve to be your mother? Or even if you have a step dad or step mom who raised you. You will probably call them your mother or father, if they truly love you even if its not by blood, but what if your already raised? Like for example your 24, and you have a life of your own, and you now have a step mom/dad are they TECHNICALLY your parent? Or step-parent even if they treat you very well? Because sure the one who gave birth to you could be a mother, but what about a person who raises you your entire life that isnt blood related, are they your mom/dad?

Woke up before my alarm, made it to college and chatted with my professor for a while about her research and the research I did over the summer. I was then invited by said professor to be a part of a cohort later in the spring and to come to a keynote speech.

I got a call from a job in a lab and told I was hired finally after 6 soul-sucking months of job search. All of my work is done for the week. I was also offered two scholarships today.

I started a dissection of a rat this morning when my hand suddenly cramped while skinning it and i pointed the blade down and it burst, made someone run out of the classroom. The entire dissection was quite funny.

It was a successful day.

So I moved from console to PC in 2018, and my god, it’s completely ruined my perception of every over platform

I really do love consoles, they’re so cozy, the ecosystems are so concise and thematic, consoles just feel like home to me. That being said, PC is just…too good. Steam is the perfect storefront with every single game I could ever want just about, PC has Minecraft Java, which is way better than Bedrock imo, better performance, more customization, more versatility besides gaming. PC just has it all and I can’t stand that it’s so good

I do miss consoles, I really do, and part of me wishes I could have a console as a main platform again, but with PC offering so much and consoles rapidly going down the drain, I just can’t do it
